I agree with Olivia's report. The food is great, but the service stinks! One time we waited 45 minutes for a waitress to take our order, and another 30 minutes to get our food - the food is good, but not THAT good. We've visited three times, and each time it has been just as slow. I don't think they have enough waitresses, or perhaps not a fast enough cook?, or perhaps they are cruising on their good reputation and thus don't care if the customer has to wait. (This doesn't include the wait to get seated - at lunch time, that can be up to 30 minutes. I am referring to the wait AFTER we are seated.) It is unfortunate, because the food is good, but the wait too long, so we no longer go there to eat. read more

Best breakfast I have ever had. It really is that simple. I am no leaf peeping tourist rube either. My chard and egg sandwich (on caraway rye) was great, but the wife smartly ordered the omelette of the day. Amazing. I felt like NEO in the matrix. I have finally experienced the real world. Let me be clear, I have a CSA. I compost. My grocery of choice used to be the union square farmers market. I have pickled things. I know my s***. This place still had some things to teach me about veggies. Go to Maine. Eat here. Be warned the hours are asinine. They only actually serve dinner one day a week and breakfast two days a week. The rest of the time they have pastries and coffee. If this place had actually served food everyday, I would have eaten there everyday I was in Maine. read more

This place looks lovely and I wish I came there later than 7:45am because they had no food. I ordered dill cheddar scone and iced latte with almond milk. Scone was ok I didn't even finish it but the way they made iced late for me was hilarious. Latte is espresso shot + steamed milk if it's hot and Ice + cold milk for iced latte. I was watching barista while she was pouring something looking like cold brew in my glass, then she pours some almond milk and after she steaming additional small amount of almond milk and pours it in my glass as well. This mixture tasted disgusting. I didn't taste any coffee at all. Just had one sip and left this lovely place. Maybe I'll give it a try when I'm back in Belfast. Not coffee though, but their food selection. read more

I'm a summer person and have been coming for a few years now -- mostly for baked goods. Baked good are incredible -- if you're partial to non-white flours and not heavily sweetened, as I am. There's a buckwheat muffin that makes me believe in heaven. I've had tarts, scones, breads... all delicious. The farm produce is also to die for... from the display to the actual consumption. Gorgeous. This summer bought a bouquet of mixed greens that was worthy of a still life (oops, we ate it!). Tomatoes, herbs, greens, flowers, fennel...and on and on. The prices are fair for what you're getting and, as much as i hate to say this, often are better than at the farmer's market in town (or where I live!) This year, we actually went to dinner on a Friday night. Finally. Fantastic meal. Vegetarian food -- varied offerings. Wine. Dessert. A bit pricey, but it was an experience and I don't begrudge them the money. The food was good, the service lovely, the ambience delicious. They do a nice job. And, the polenta I had is like none other... literally a melt in your mouth experience and worth every penny. read more

Was hesitant to come again, having read the less-than-5-star review about the redesigned Chase's Daily. But, came today for lunch and was thrilled to find the same outstanding food and friendly staff. Food is fresh made from locally sourced ingredients. Everything our family tried was excellent. We didn't have to wait for a seat for our family of 4. There are many many vegetarian choices, and some inspired combinations (example: marinated tofu, pickled shredded veggies, avocado, and cilantro on a fresh baguette). My mocha was flavorful & well-made. And the produce & breads for sale in the back were a beautiful, good value to take home for dinner. Local honey was also available at a very reasonable price. LOVED it. Ate breakfast here my first day in town. Coffee was wonderful. Eggs cooked perfect. Thick sliced made on premise toasted raisin toast was BEST I have ever eaten. Went back day three and four and bought loaves of the bread. It was AMAZING. There was a bit of a wait on Sunday morning to get seated but now I know why. I am NOT a vegan nor vegg but loved it. nestled in the small town of belfast, maine with a view of the ocean and the sounds of the town on all sides. chase's daily is a gem. an all vegetarian menu rests neatly beside a row of freshly baked breads and facing a wall of paintings from their own in house "perimeter gallery" . {who's best show bi-annual show "small works" was up last time i visited} most of the produce is grown on the chase's own farm. and tuesday thru saturday during the summer the back of the house becomes a farmers market full of fresh cut flowers, veggies, honey and coffee beans. if you are around for the weekend try not to miss the very special once a week "friday night dinners". a menu to rival even the hippest small new york bistro and all with a great local atmosphere. a mom and pop to knock yr. socks off! read more

My sister and I (both vegetarians) were very happy to randomly run into this place on our way north up the coast, and made sure to catch it again on the way back. There is definitely a noticeable wait (we hit it at the tail end of lunch each time), but that goes with the territory. I don't mind making conversation. Smoothies were ok, the Thai Tofu/Rice dish was great, the tacos were excellent. The egg salad sandwich was good (4 stars?) and the salad was also solid (esp for someone that doesn't like greens). The carrot cake cupcake for desert was 4 stars. More importantly, they were interesting dishes and not the staid fare you find most places, so a good catch. read more

I admit it -- I like pork products with my breakfast. You won't find those items here and, believe it or not, I did not miss them on our first visit. It was only during our second visit that I realized, "no meat?!" I'm not a brightest bulb some mornings but, hey, I was on vacation. Belfast can be or seem boho or casual. There is a hippy vibe that runs through the town. A coop, a green store before green was cool havee been there for years. At Chases its the same feel. The wait staff have a its summer let it flow freely look. No hi my name is eugene or camille i will be your server today. Yeah yeah its vegie but so what. Theu make a beet salad with blue cheese that is awesome. White bean mash with grilled onions. Amazing. Wooden tables wooden floors old grange hall feel. Whats not to love. The food at lunch was exquisite, but the process of getting it was miserable. At 2pm on a weekday we waited in line at the counter for twenty minutes as each set of customers at the head of the line dithered interminably over choosing their meals. Once we were at the counter it was like we were invisible. Several staff wandered past without acknowledging our existence while two others engaged in an extended personal conversation. Many of the prepared items were unlabeled. When a staffer finally come to our assistance and we asked what an item was, he leaned into the case and poked at it with his (gloved) finger as we held our breath hoping that the beads of sweat on his forehead would not drip onto the sandwiches below. After that, getting seated and getting water were also difficult. The food was worth the hastle and I would eat it again and again, but the service robs two stars from the overall experience. read more

Other Yelp reviewers lured us into downtown Belfast on our way thru to other destinations and we were glad we went. The food was excellent and not a single thing we ordered disappointed. We had the cheese plate, curry fried rice, and pasta of the day. The vegetables were really fresh and flavors were incredible. Even the coffee was good. The wait was really long at noon on a Friday, but wouldn't expect that all the time. We'll definitely go back. By the way, downtown Belfast is worth some extra time too. I really anticipated having breakfast there but was very disappointed. First, they could use some signage, no table or counter service during the week. I got a Gruyere/tomato tart and a custard bun plus juice. Had to bus a spot at the counter to make room. With no footstop, I kept sliding off the slippery stool. (short legs) . The cheese tomato tart was burnt on one side and burnt completely underneath. Bottom crust inedible. Flavor fair. The custard bun was outstanding. Other baked goods were available but everything looked dry and over baked. Won't be back. In October there are no fresh veggies so that may make a difference. read more

I've never had anything here that I didn't like. The food is really fresh and vegetarian friendly. The atmosphere is funky and cozy. The waiters and waitresses are always friendly even when they're stressed. Plus, there's a market in the back where you can buy fresh baked goods and some locally grown vegetables. Chase's does get very busy on weekend mornings and the customers do tend to linger a bit so be prepared to possibly wait to be seated. read more

The place was busy, I'll grant Chase Daily that. But the service was very slow. Slow enough that I asked my Wife to text me when the food was ready so I could take the kids out for a walk because we waited so long. The waitstaff never stopped by to refill the drinks, never stopped by to let us know how things were going. Basically ignored my Wife as she tried to ask if everything was okay in the kitchen until she could tell us that we were up next. It was about 45 minutes from ordering to be served. When we asked about the time, they said that this was typical. Aside from the long wait and not overly warm waits staff, there are some good things to say about the menu. The menu is limited, but very diverse. Lot of items looked and interesting. The menu is all veggie, no meat. The food very good. Everyone was very pleased with their order. Although, they did neglect to hold the basil from the pizza that we order. It was disappointing to wait that long and have something wrong, but at that point, we just wanted the food. Aside from the pizza goof, the food was good. As good as the food was and as much as I liked the local sourced aspect of their menu, the wait was long enough for me to not want to go back. I'll try other places in Belfast before going back again. read more

We just beat the lunch crowd, even thought it was really early. I can see that it would be a challenge to get served properly when busy. But my lunch pasta and cappuccino were both great. The place was enchanting with the great high ceilinged space and gorgeous veggies for the sale in the back. If I could give Chase's Daily 6 stars, I would. Every summer when we go to Maine, Chase's is our first stop. Its all-vegetarian cuisine is so good that even I, a self-proclaimed carnivore, don't notice the absence of meat. Their omelets are sublime, and the pizza margherita is the best I've had anywhere. Make sure to order the iced tea: an exquisite blend of peppermint and earl grey that makes you grateful for the free refills. Don't forget to check out the fresh produce and baked goods in the back of the restaurant, too! Great for the whole family, from infant to grandmother. A wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, warm people. You'll want to come back every day. read more

So this was our first trip to this restaurant and needless to say it left a very disappointing taste in my mouth. We went down with a couple other friends, there was 4 of us and they don't take reservations unless you're at least a party of 6, which ultimately would have been fine. We get there and they were busy but had several open tables. We ask the guy about the wait after we finally tracked someone down and the guy said "well I have no idea how long the wait is going to be and seemed like we were more of an inconvenience for wanting to have dinner in his establishment. There was also snyde remarks from some of the wait staff saying " it is what it is and just deal with it". He told us to go walk around for a bit until a table opens up so we did, we went next door to get a drink which was about 10 minutes. Came back only to find that the table he was holding for us was seated with another party. Then we got another response on how he's not sure how long the wait is going to be again. At this point we decided to leave and go to a restaurant that would appreciate our business and make us feel wanted! This was my first and last attempt to try this restaurant.....definitely won't go back. read more

My wife and I did a road trip honeymoon through Massachusetts and up the coast of Maine. We read the glowing reviews on Yelp about Chase's and made a two day stop in Belfast. The reviews did not lie. And Chase's did not disappoint. Chase's is THE place to get delicious gourmet farm fresh vegetarian food. We were there for lunch and brunch, both were soooooo tasty. Get there early, if you don't want to wait (I don't think they take reservations for lunch/breakfast). If you do wait, I promise, it's well worth it. We unfortunately missed out on the Friday dinner because they were booked solid :-( Apparently, the word is out, Chase's is *the* place to go for Friday night dinner. Make your reservations early! They also have a back bakery/coffee shop where they sell pastries and Chase Farm produce. read more

Chases is good for local. And there is a lot of good stuff on the menu. But nothing that "pops" about most of the food combos. There is minimal variety but you can find something for everyone. Unfortunately the price for the portion is disproportionate. Terrifically expensive for very little amount of food. The baked good counter is the saving grace. There you can find some good items. Mostly it is the experience of small town feel and excellent service. I would do a breakfast there again, but not dinner. Unless someone else was paying. read more

I live in another part of Maine and had been looking forward to the opportunity to eat at Chase's for a long time, as I've always heard great things about their food. I was in Belfast today for a meeting, which got out about 2 hours before Chase's afternoon closing time. Excited to finally get over there, we went to check it out. One couple was finishing up their meal, and about 4 people were buying baked goods at the register. My husband and I waited at the "Please wait to be seated sign" for about five minutes. No host, no server. Several restaurant employees walked past us, gave us a passing glance, but didn't say anything. We continued to wait. Finally, we sat ourselves down at a table in the mostly empty dining area. The counter staff, wait staff, and kitchen staff all milled around and we saw nearly all of them looking at us sitting there as they went about. Still, no waiter/ess, no host, not a word from anyone. The other dining couple finished their meal and got up to leave. Most of the people at the counter finished their transactions and left. Still, no one came over to us at the table. Having not been there before, we decided to walk up to the counter/register thinking maybe we had to place our order there. The lady at the register finishes up a transaction, talks to another employee, and then answers the phone --- everyone leaving us standing there and continuing to not say a word to us. Not even a, "hello, we'll be with you in a minute." By that point, we had been waiting in various parts of the (mostly empty) restaurant for upwards of 20 minutes without so much of as an acknowledgement from any of the many people working there -- so we walked out. Heard a passing, "Hey, sorry guys....." as we we exited the door. I don't expect a whole lot when I go out to eat and I never send food back or make weird complaints --- but jeez, basic courtesy and some semblance of customer service would be helpful.
