The overall taste of the food feels hit or miss and not as good as it used to be. The service was lukewarm and there wasn't much of an apology for the delay or the oversight. Shalimar still has potential, but more consistency in flavor, attention to orders, and friendlier service would go a long way toward making the dining experience worth a return. I have had a lot of their menu and most of it hits. The kabobs are always a strong choice, the biryani is flavorful and satisfying, and the chicken tikka masala is decent. Not the best I have ever had, but definitely solid enough to enjoy. It is not mind blowing food, but it is reliable. You know what you are getting, and more often than not, it delivers. One thing I will say is that not all locations are the same. The Natomas one, for whatever reason, just does not hit the same. This South Sacramento location is the one to go to if you want a good experience. The vibe is pretty casual and no frills, which fits the food.
