I live in San jose and was visiting Ardenwood area. I happened to land at this place. I ordered paav bhaji, thali and bhalla papdi chaat. Bhalla papdi came first. Out of world. First time i tasted so authentic bhalla papdi in bay area in last 6 years. Next was thali and paav bhaaji. paav bhaaji was so so. Thali again stood out. Simple and flavorful. I love Chatpatta/pani puri more than any other snacks! I live close by this restaurant. Anyway, That particular day, I just walk in with a great hope! Yes,I had a great hope because I go the other Indian places quite often! I ordered Pani puri. They don't accept card. Luckily I had couple of dollars in pocket. The tables were not clean as last customer went off. The food I got, I don't feel is worth of money I spent here. They can obviously do better. I have been going to Chatpatta Corner for years now and they have the best chaat around. I enjoy most items on their menu but the pani puri is absolutely the best I have ever had. The parathas are also good but you have to eat them while they're still fresh if you prefer them to have a bit of crisp to them. Try the Papdi Chaat if you are a fan of yogurt and ask for extra "medium" chutney. This is a very family friendly place as well. My kids go there and always have a wonderful time. Most places use ridiculous amounts of chili in their food which is usually not kid friendly but here you have the option to get almost everything with zero spicy level. I read a review earlier that stated that they have had issues with pricing and I wanted to point out that I have never had such issues over there. The "aunty" there is always very nice and asks about the family whenever I am there. In summary, go check out this place or you're missing out on some of the best food around! read more

If you come here YOU MUST HAVE THEIR PANI POORI. Their Pani Poori has consistently been good over the years. Hands down the best in the Bay Area. Other chaats were good too. There really isn't much to the ambiance it's like eating in the cafeteria. The reason I give it 3 Stars is because they could use a little bit of graciousness in their serving or customer service. Nobody seems to be happy behind the counter and the lady in charge seems to be treating customers like as if they are her students. It's just the overall attitude needs to change a lil bit. All items are tasty and consistent- we liked the pani Puri and samosa chat. We didn't like the pav bhaji - pav was full of butter and the bhaji something was wrong - it was tasteless. One of our favorite paratha places! My partner and I started going to them during the pandemic and their setup for take out is a little funky but you get used to it. We always order well ahead of time (think one hour) as the parathas are made fresh. Chatpatta has lost me as a customer. I've been a customer for many, many years, going back to the Dana Bazar days. I've been returning primarily for the pani puri, which is quite good. But this one has been a long time coming. Chatpatta has raised prices across the board again, to the point that it's just gotten ridiculous. You can't justify charging $6 for pani puri, you just can't. The rest of the dishes similarly overpriced and there's no reason to pay $20/person for self-service chaat. The other issues that the other reviews have brought up are still there. The cash-only policy, no matter how much the spend. The shoddy customer service. But this was the nail in the coffin. I walked in today, looked at the prices, and walked out. I will not be back. I would recommend you do the same. Perhaps management will learn. read more

The chaat was decent but we got the thali which honestly tasted horrible. The raita was thick and sour, the curry was just bland. The only semi good thing was the vegetable dish. Food is good. Customer service horrible. I really wish they would hire someone to take care of orders (including phone orders) and payments. The same lady who takes care of this now, wait ... makes all the chaat dishes, which takes up most of her time. So, people who come in are just waiting, then she takes a break to take orders and again you are in limbo, then a few minutes later payment. Came here for the pav bhaji, but discovered so many more yummy things to eat! We got there and I knew that I wanted to order the Pav Bhaji, but wasn't quite sure what else to choose... there was a menu posted on the wall but I had no clue as what else to order. We ended up asking the lady working in the front what was good or what she could recommend. She ended up letting us taste test certain things that she recommended and it all turned out to be really delicious and tasty. We tried the Sev puri and the Choley Bhature. Both were really good, so we ordered those two in addition to the Pav Bhaji and some Samosas. The Samosas were pretty standard, but everything else was so good! A good, solid place serving up lunch thalis and chat. I'd always been afraid to go here, given it's dull decor and neighbors "Star Buffet" and Jack-in-the-Box. But, I was pleasantly surprised. This place is pure vegetarian, so don't go expecting to order Butter Chicken. I like the homey thalis: you get bread, rice and a couple of bowls of a dry curry, dal and raita. So someone recommended Chatpatta Corner to me for their Falooda, I'm a bit of a dessert fanatic. I was fairly hungry so I ordered a few other items on the menu. I got the Kachori Choley and the Sev Puri, they were both absolutely to die for. I then noticed that everyone else was ordering the Pani Puri as well, so I decided to get some Pani Puri also, I have to say that this is the best Pani Puri I've ever had. The only drawback here is that I ended up eating too much food, but that's an issue for another day lol. I am going to recommend Chatpatta Corner to all my friends and family because no one should miss out on such a gem of a place. Oh and another thing that I really appreciated was the fact that the spice level can be controlled, ranging from very mild to very spicy. As they mentioned to me while I was there, the spice level is controlled by their chutneys and can be made to the level of your preference. We walked up to the counter to place our order and were asked to write it down on a legal pad that was handed to us. After the people ahead of us on the legal pad were called up, it was our turn.
