BEST TOASTED SUBS HANDS DOWN. Biiig fan of Cheba Hut, used to get it all the time in Denver and was delighted to realize they made it to MKE. Two things that were comforting, the staff and interiors were completely reminiscent of the Denver vibes! Couple of laid back college kids working. Best sandwich is the White Widow (grilled chicken, pickle, bacon, ranch, other tasty things) and you have to try their garlic herb bread! Love their size choices too, the "nug" id a 4 in sub and the perfect size to eat with a bag of chips and not get too full! Don't forget to try their desserts! The Rice Krispies are actually insane. Shoutout to the nice employee who gave me one on the house :). I'm giving it 5 stars because Cheba Hut deserves it - but I will say the location is not ideal. It felt a little seedy which is a bummer because I frequented the area 15 years ago in college and don't recall it being quite like this, but maybe I was naive. read more

Favorite sub shop of all time! First enjoyed going in Madison when I was in college, was so happy when we finally got locations in Milwaukee. Vibes are great - very stoner-esque. The first time I tried their subs, it has stayed my favorite spot on the Eastside. I get different variations of it, always turns out really good. I am a big fan of the bread. I used to love to get the kool aid. I love eating here too cause the inside is 420 themed and has cool drawings on the wall. I've now ordered from Cheba Hut a couple of times and enjoyed all the veggie options, hot and cold, that they offer. It's rare to have so many choices so that's an immediate plus. I stopped by in person recently in need of post-fasting food for my partner. The 5-0 called out to him in his famished state and I got him a huge sandwich which has become a new favorite for him. I tried the tuna melt, which was really good. I was surprised by the restaurant itself. I had no idea that they had such a large space, a full bar and expansive hours. The online reviews and such seemed pretty good for Cheba Hut but I wasn't sure what to expect. They have a marijuana theme and stuffed-looking toasted sandwiches. They have their own "shake" seasoning that comes standard on most of the sandwiches along with their house dressing. They have a bar so the experience is elevated a little bit above the average sub shop. The menu looked appetizing so I decided to go. You order at the counter and if you're dining in they bring the food out to you. I came on a Saturday afternoon and there were a few people at tables and several others at the bar. This location is near UWM and seems popular with the student crowd. I had the Kali Mist without the bacon. I was pretty hungry and I'm glad I got the 8" ("pinner") sandwich. The 12" ("blunt") would have been too much. The sandwich was a little bit overstuffed to the point of stuff falling out, but it was good. I liked that the pickle spear was right in the sandwich. The flavors complemented each other well. Maybe next time I would ask for a lighter hand with the chipotle mayo. I like that there were multiple vegetarian options as well, many of them featuring portobello mushrooms. The menu also features a couple of local favorites by location. Cheba Hut is open late and has a selection of "munchies" like cheese bread or a bowl of meatballs with sauce. Sometimes that's what you want most in the world. read more

I also tried the Magic Mushroom (Teriyaki Shroom) which was great! My husband had the 4 inch Chronic (BBQ Roast Beef) and the Kali Mist (Spicy Club). He loved both of them! We tried several munchies including the Loaded Not'Chos and a couple Bowl O' Balls- one Teriyaki and one Greek. We loved the Teriyaki one. I stopped at Cheba Hut to get a quick bite before a movie I had near by. The menu is reasonably large and the items are diverse if you're adventurous. Unfortunately for me, I'm kind of a picky eater and usually end up removing most veggies. I ordered a four inch La Canna (Italian) because I didn't want to waste it if I didn't like it and had the least amount of stuff to remove (onions, tomatoes, pickles). What was left was the ham, salami, prosciutto, provolone, black olives, lettuce, shake (oregano and parmesan), and house (vinegar and oil). For what I had I thought the sub was very good. The vinegar didn't overpower like I was afraid it would and the bread was nicely toasted. I was eating in a dark car while driving, so I couldn't see the black olives and wasn't sure for a while that they were even on there, but eventually I was able to taste them. Maybe a little more black olive would have been appreciated. I wish I had gotten a larger size, but will next time. read more

I wrote a schathing review of this place a couple of years ago. My review was met with a response saying they had addressed the issue. I am reposting to say this is my favorite sub shop in all of MIlwaukee. The bread is really, really good. The toppings are well balanced. They give you a good amount of fillings. The dressings are also now evenly balanced. There is no loud music blaring. I can actually bring friends and we converse. The staff is friendly and attentive. This place went from being on my shyte list to my favorite. I would suggest asking for the parmsan on the side, but that's personal preference. This is a great example of a business listening to its customers. I can't recomment it enough. read more

This is a pretty cool spot. The sandwiches are divine! So good, great flavor combos, a delightful vinegar house dressing. We split a Midwest Best. I like that they come in three sizes: 4-inch "nug," an 8-inch "pinner," and a 12-inch "blunt." While we were there they did a brisk takeaway business but we dined in. The space is so nice with lots of windows facing Oakland and Locust. In the summer they will throw open the garage doors and make use of the little patio Blaze put in. It's clean, the restrooms are gender neutral, and they have a decent little bar with fantastic signature drinks. The beer selection is what you'd expect for a college bar--the local breweries are represented but then you also get your bargain beers of Busch Lite and Hamm's. Staff is super friendly. I find it is so hard to get Greek food in Milwaukee and this was such a pleasant surprise having such great Greek flavor! My food was ready quickly and it was easy to pick up in the back of the restaurant. I was surprised when I walked in that it seemed to have a full bar and people hanging out there but overall the vibe seemed cool, just likely a little young for me. Food is great, service is great, atmosphere is USUALLY great. Last 3 times I've eaten here there has been a man waking around the restaurant asking people for money. My parents have been going on and on about this place for weeks and I finally went today. Boy am I glad did. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by friendly staff members. It wasn't overly crowded and as we had ordered online we simply went to the counter and they brought our food out straight away. 9/12/23 2pm. Sat at the bar for 15 minutes with 0 service before I finally got up to the order area and asked if there was a bartender, which there wasn't. It would've been nice if one of the employees would've had the common sense to let the people waiting at the bar that there isn't a bartender today. Or maybe put a sign at the bar saying bar closed? I wasn't the only one waiting for awhile to be served at the bar. Was annoying to have my time wasted like that. I've dealt with a lot of really cool and nice employees there in the past but it's seems like those ones are gone or weren't working today. I've never gone to the actual location, but have gotten Door Dash deliveries twice from this location. I've got to say, the food is amazing! There is a multitude of options to choose from and each one is special in its own way. The flavors also seem very exclusive and can't be found else where. It seems Cheba Hut puts its own spin on the classics, which is very refreshing. The only downside is the price as spending $14 on a sub seems a bit exorbitant. Quality over Quantity! These sandwich artists really know how to make A sandwich. The sign when you order says sandwiches take time and they are worth it! They deliver excellent service and very interesting they cater to everyone I'm not A stoner but the fact they have kool-aid is amazing, the scenery is great 80's movies cameos everywhere. Now the seller the food, I got the spicy Italian and my significant other had the beef. The Spicy Italian was in fact spicy I was sweating by the end of the sandwich but the taste of the sauce they put in the sandwiches made me muscle through. The toasted bun had A great crisp and ingredients edge to edge so the first bite was as good as the last! So my business associate and I were rolling around the east side of Milwaukee checking on a few of our investments. We worked up quit the appetite. While stopped at the intersection of N. Oakland Ave. and W. Locust St. we noticed a nice little joint called The Cheba Hut. There were a few interesting characters walking in and out of it. We both looked at each other and said, "let's check this place out!" Upon opening the front doors and walking down the long hallway to get to the service counter one couldn't help but notice the millions of marijuana themed art work and stickers. The extremely creative menu is marijuana themed. The place was rocking with a very upbeat vibe. The employees were very polite, helpful, and happy...what is really in these subs!!! I ordered the AK-47 and Pretzel Nugs it was AWESOME and DELICIOUS AF!!! The food was prepared well and delivered to out table. I am sure weather you are sober or high as shit you will have a culinary experience of a lifetime! We will most def be back for more Cheba Hut! read more

I came Saturday (6/25) a little after midnight all the way from Kenosha w a group of friends, the place says open until 2:30 AM on Google, Apple Maps, & their own website. We got there & the doors were locked, place was filled with employees cleaning up. When we tried the door & saw it was locked, one employee looked at us & shook his head. There was no sign or anything saying why it was closed over two hours early & there were plenty of other customers trying to get in as well. We were very upset & ended up going to Ian's pizza. It probably didn't help that they literally forgot to include the mayo I asked them to add and one other ingredient. Decided to give them another chance today. Staff is really nice, but you will wait a long time for food. We ordered 2 salads and waited well over 30 minutes, they weren't busy and the salads didn't have all the toppings. There is no sense of urgency to get food out. Doesn't seem to be any management or proper training.
