The alternator in my BMW X3 broke down about 90 miles out on the way to Virginia Beach. We made it to the hotel and the next day, which was a Saturday I had it towed to Checkered Flag BMW. I explained to them that I needed the car back as soon as possible since I had to be back in Pittsburgh the following Wednesday to get on a plane to Europe. They diagnosed the car first thing Monday morning and ordered the parts for next day delivery. By Tuesday 10:00 AM my car was repaired. They even cleaned it inside and outside. Most importantly they handled the financial part with the extended warranty company. From the time I dropped off the car until it was ready to be picked up they provided frequent updates via phone. Jason, my customer service agent is the BEST. He always goes above and beyond to ensure I know the status of my maintenance has a great personality, and makes sure I am completely satisfied. Check out the state of Virginia consumer protection agency website. There are 17 complaints pending against checkered flag. I hate saying this about anyone, but everyone I have dealt with there was dishonest. They told me that I needed $1000 repair for an oil leak and then when I challenged it they told me it actually wasn't a leak but that car was just burning oil and a repair was not needed. And as I escalated it up through management, I was just met with more excuses and lies. Very sad situation at this place. We have also had work done on other makes of cars at checkered flag have experienced much the same thing. Very deceitful culture. read more

First-what a great experience! I do not say that lightly for I have been looking for a vehicle for a LONG time. I usually look on Sunday when dealers are closed because I DO NOT like to be approached like a piece of road kill by vultures. I road in a BMW and I really liked the vehicle which lead me to my search of my own BMW. When I came to the Checkered Flag Dealership in VA Beach-I was SO SURPRISED not to be approached! I had to walk into the show room-how awesome!! Then I was introduced to Chris Grandison. What a great salesman!! He listened to what I was asking for (I had done research on a few vehicles on your lot via internet) and took me to the SUV's. He was very informative and had great knowledge of the vehicles. Chris is the same size as my husband and with his help-we were able to determine that the SUV that really worked for me would also work for my husband getting in and out of the vehicle. Once I decided on the 2017 BMW X-3 Chris guided me on the best way to proceed. The appointment was made to come on Saturday, 9.22.18-to purchase the vehicle. I wanted my husband to test drive which Chris was glad to do. During the process of the purchase-my husband and I liked the flow on how things were handled. I leased a 2015 3 series from another dealership 3 years ago and was ready to move into a new lease this month. After 2 trips to the "other" dealership and meeting with the sales manager twice for an extended period, there was NO FOLLOWUP! My first BMW was purchased at Checkered Flag but distance caused me to look for a closer dealership. I went back to Checkered Flag and in 1 week I had my dream car (a 2018 430i, fully loaded) and it came with a great experience. Been putting off going to the dealer where I live in Nebraska due to poor service there. Have always had great service from Hilton Head BMW so was surprised. Stopped in without an appointment to have them look at a warning light. SM actually came out and fixed the problem himself and didn't charge me a dime despite the fact that he needed at $2 part and car is out of warranty. I was also wearing my USMC sweatshirt as I am a Marine Officer, didn't try to take advantage of me surprisingly. read more

Very disappointed in the customer service. Every time I have gone to service my vehicle I get the run around. Unnecessary charges for maintenance that is not recommended by manufacturer. I've considered purchasing a different vehicle just to avoid dealing with CF BMW service. read more

Ashley Hunt, the service coordinator, has been extraordinarily professional and helpful. She gives regular updates and also makes you feel like you are not just a number or name. Frankly, she is the reason I am giving five stars. I have a formed a level of trust with her over several visits now. She has gone above and beyond when confirming specific diagnosis. She does not shy away from utilizing my extended warranty (which was very expensive). She looks to make sure that an item being repaired is under warranty or recall. And she truly is a delight to work with. I cannot confirm the same for all other. But if you request her, you will be very pleased. read more

Very bad experience, very bad salesman. They will low ball your trade and don't care about you!!!!

I was a bit skeptical buying a car on-line. I thought I would be taken advantage of, or that the dealer would make it a painful process! But when I went on-line to find the car that I wanted and the price that I was willing to pay, one of the dealerships that I emailed was Checkered Flag Mini, in VA Beach, VA. Their Internet specialist Dionne got back to me in less than 24 hours. She then called me and let me know that they had a car that had all the features that I desired, but it was not the color that I had requested. I must say, because it was a 2010, their incentives offered to me for my purchase. I decided in the end I could forgo the color of my choice, because the car had everything that I wanted. They sent the paper work right to me, in closed with a return envelope and paid for the postage to return all my documents. They made signing the contract and taking care of all the necessary paper work a piece of cake! Next was to take delivery on the car!!! I was going to have to take the train from Washington, DC, to VA Beach. I thought that would be a nightmare, but Stephen Behm, a client advisor for Checkered Flag, said he would gladly come and get me from the train station. Stephen had arrived to the train station to come and get me. We had a pleasant drive from Newport News, VA, to VA Beach. He made sure that i was comfortable and had a bottle water, just in case I was parched. When I got to Checkered Flag Mini, Jimmy, the Sales Manager, greeted me and was on his way to expedite my purchase!! I was in and out in under 10minutes! I think that's got to be some kind of record!! Jimmy put my new tags on and I was out the door! I am grateful for their ability to get me in and out so fast and to make sure that I was fully informed about the car that I purchased. I recently moved here and unfortunately have had an ongoing check engine light problem. Two weeks ago I stopped by the dealership to discuss the problem and make an appointment. Everything seemed so-so up to that point, with some questionable customer service, but I thought that I would be open-minded and give them a chance to redeem themselves. I dropped my car off last week on a Wednesday for diagnosis of the check-engine light......it is now Monday and my car has not even been given a little look-see by the technician. The explanation is that they are backed-up and that they have no idea when the car will get through the line. At this point, I'm curious if an appointment is just a suggestion. I have been patient through-out the daily calls to remind me that my car has not made it to the line yet, until today, when I got a heavy duty dose of attitude for reminding the service manager that I needed my car back in the next day or two, as I was going out of town soon (a fact that I advised him of when I dropped the car off and also when I spoke with him on the phone last week.) I miss my old dealership so much! I'm also wondering why it is that some businesses give the impression that they do not have to provide good customer service because they are the only dealership for over 100 miles? I didn't receive a "sorry for the inconvenience" or even a "sorry for the delay"..... just a nasty "can't guarantee that we will get to your car today, or even tomorrow." Almost thought that he was going to hang up the phone without even a "goodby." I know that I can be demanding by expecting that my car will be looked at with-in 5 days of dropping it off....expecting a little too much I would say! read more

Overbooked and underwhelming. Have had mulitple cars in for service, and if you are expecting the level of service that you are paying a LOT of money for, don't. They don't return phone calls and are simply overrun. I have brought concerns with service advisors up to the management before and was met with indifference. Going here for service gives me a headache and puts me in a foul mood. I go way out of my way to Casey BMW in Newport News since they actually meet my expectations and they care. read more

I am completely dissatisfied with the service that I have received here. My coolant light was going on/off. Repairs cost me almost $1,500. A week later, my coolant light was blinking again and I had to take care of the problem in RI since I moved there, where they fixed it for $450. The dealership did not fix my original issue but furthermore, I know for a fact that I was overcharged for a simple part replacement like a visor clip. I was charged $70.98 at VA Beach dealership, and only $13.50 in RI. When I emailed my service consultant Mike Lawson, he did not address my complaint at all. This makes me question the services that I have received at this dealership and validity of issues and the price that I payed for services. read more

Bought my car there: overall not a bad experience. However: AVOID them as a service center: - its extremely hard to get an appointment - Even with an appointment made a week ahead of time for a brake fluid change and inspection it took them 2 days (and they wanted to keep it through the weekend except I complained). - They didnt give me updates about my car. meaning i had to continually call to get information -they were extremely difficult to reach (it would take multiple calls to get a real person, the secretary was worthless and I kept being sent to voicemail). - They continually were wrong about when it would be ready. initially told me it would take 1/2 a day, then never called, then told me they would get to it first thing in the a.m., then never called. then wanted to keep it over the weekend before I told them it was unacceptable). Overall this was just a terrible experience. I didn't have any issues with the quality of the work but the service side of getting my car repaired there was abysmal. read more

Hands down the worst BMW dealership that I've ever experienced. Started with a sleazy sales experience and got worse when in needed my first service. Loaner was not available when promised, service techs were condescending while at the same time clearly not understanding what they were talking about. And my car wasn't fixed. I'll drive out of my way to find another dealer for service in the future. And as loyal as I am to BMW I'll never buy a vehicle there again. read more

I've been to plenty of dealerships from Toyota to audi to Porsche and now bmw. Never have I been more insulted by a sales representative. I went in to lease a bmw 4 series. I was quoted a price of $900+. I asked why the price was so high and he said 'bmw just had bad lease options'. I showed him quotes from other places in the low $700's with the exact same options and he accused me of making them up. He then tried to TELL me the car I wanted. He said he couldn't order the one I requested. I left there and went to another dealership out of the area...got the exact car I wanted with a lease price of $200 less than what he offered me. That's 2400 a year over 3 years. I would've paid over $7,000 more for the same car. Insulting isn't even the right word. Go here if you want to get ripped off. Go elsewhere if you want to be treated fairly. read more

Hopefully 3rd times a charm. I have scheduled 2 appointments with a loaner for an alignment and have been told both times that it needs to be rescheduled bc of lack of loaner cars. Not sure what the problem is except for the inability to keep up with promises. Shouldn't make appointments that can't be kept. Solution is simple, offer less appointments. Sorry you loss money if a loaner is sitting there and no one is paying for service but I am guessing a paying customer is better than a happy one. One the other hand, the lady I talked to on the phone the second time was extremely apologetic and nice but couldn't really offer much help except for to try again (there was nothing she could do anyway). Unfortunately this is the only place in town to get this car aligned. read more

I said I got my car their and need some help. Nothing. Talked about new Mgt and more techs coming. Not the answer I was looking for. Lady on phone was nice and firm. I took my car into get the window regulator checked out because the window fell down from someone shutting the door too hard and something came loose allowing the window to end up all the way down. I could hear the motor (regulator) still worked, but there was a code for windows on display. So i dropped it off and got a call later, message stating the estimated $1096 bill to replace window regulator and oil filter gasket. Upon inspection and request for recommendations with an invoice of parts, the service advisor showed me the leak on my oil filter gasket (Casey fixed that for me in past few mo's), how it was leaking. Nothing, no oil, engine immaculate. I could tell the guy was at a loss for words. Then i noticed the tape i used to seal around window hadn't been torn, nor replaced. They never even looked at my window and recommended the motor and assembly be replaced! What if its was just a cable off of its pulley? Anyhow, i left and was billed $150.00 for them "looking" at my car. I learned my lesson, Ill never do any business with them the rest of my life. Just because Checkered flag has only one competitor (Casey Newport News) and high demand, they get away with bending us over. So they think. read more

I had not purchased a car in over twenty years. My initial thought was I would buy another Volvo, but decided to look around for some diversity. I had always liked the BMW and so I reviewed what Checkered Flag and other dealers had in stock on the Internet. I sent an email to Checkered Flag inquiring about one of the cars I liked. I received a response immediately, and explained what I was looking for, but did not want any pressure to buy. I gave two dates that I could come and look at the car first hand, and I was able to keep the second appointment. I was told who to ask for when I arrived, and the manager greeted me upon arrival. I felt special. All my questions were answered, and the salesman was just a pleasurable person to talk with. He spent an inordinate amount of time with me , but at no time did I feel pressured to make a decision. Managers, Jimmy Anderson and Michael Kulp, and my client advisor, Jerome Howard were knowledgeable, informative, patient, and most of all, FUN to work with. The ABSOLUTE WORST BMW dealership I have ever dealt with. They are very unprofessional. They do not return phone calls. I took my car to them 2 weeks ago because it wouldnt start and 8 days later I was stranded in Hampton dealing with the same problem again. They misdiagnosed the problem from the beginning and wanted me to pay for their mistake the second time. Thank God I found another BMW mechanic to fix the problem. They tell you that a loaner vehicle is available but when you get there they say its not available. I will never give this dealership my business again. And I certainly wouldnt refer anyone to them. read more

Our service advisor at Checkered Flag BMW, Daniel, is fabulous!! My husband and I were in Virginia Beach for a conference and extended vacation during the week of July19. Since my birthday was on July 23, we decided to spend the time at the beach after husband's conference ended. On the first day of the conference, our car stopped running. Called AAA and got it towed to Checkered Flag. Daniel was awesome!! He kept us informed every day and counseled us on how to get the car home since it was not ready before we left to return home to Maryland. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that Checkered Flag did not have a loaner vehicle for us. Daniel also followed up with us after we got home to ensure the transport back went smoothly. read more

I've been using Checkered Flag Mini BMW since I bought my first one in 2004, ... I now also have a 2015. When I got the 2015, Frank was able to advise me on the new features and what he knew I had come to expect and love about my 2004, from a servicing standpoint. I didn't follow one suggestion and regret it, ... and maybe I should have tried that cool color combination, too... but otherwise, I was sensible and took his great advice. The 2015 had a crazy issue with a recent recall, but as usual, Frank Lindsay in service has kept me well informed and taken care of me and my mini throughout the process. I've had a Mini for 13 years and Frank has been there to assist, keep me informed, and dealt with all of my crazy issues with being a coastal ecologist taking the Mini from swamp to shore to cross-country trips (think I have the highest mileage on the 2015 so far).
