I've been remiss in reviewing Dade City Brew House, since it's as close to local as any breweries…read moreare going to get. It's good. Go there. Okay, fine, I'll expand on that. I don't think I've ever had a bad beer at DCBH, which is no small feat given the wide range of styles they do. I like pale ales, particularly hazy IPAs, and they've had great ones--but they also have great wheat beers, and porters, and sours. There's usually a kumquat beer on the menu. It's great, too. Really. The interior is spacious and well-lit, and on days that the weather permits, the roll-up doors to the patio and sometimes to 7th Avenue are open. It's a great place to hang around with a beer and write, and probably a great place to hang around with a beer and actually be social, if you're the type who does that. The service is always friendly, fast, and generally above and beyond. Worth special note: DCBH has always had a restaurant counter that's a separate business, and they've on (I think) their third one, Uncle Fatty's. They're really solid, delivering not only pub staples but sometimes surprising specials; it's some of the best food I've had at any brewery. They need to be open later on Thursdays. So: it's good. Go there.

I ordered the orange martini and asked if it was sweet - server said no... it came a couple mins later not full and extremely sweet. I asked her to pls fill the martini glass and use vodka to cut the sweet. Came back as palatable, albeit still sweet. Lunch came and the gumbo was excellent! Wife's shrimp po boy was on a bun, not a roll as expected, and was meh... lacked flavor. Still acceptable and came with an order of fries that was great. When the bill came I noticed the martini (14$) was on the bill as expected, but also had an addl 8$ for an extra shot. I asked what this was for and she said she added more Tito's, so I was charged. So now we have one full Tito's martini (still over sweet) for 22$. Wish I would have just returned the shitty drink and ordered a beer. When no bartender at place and servers need to make drinks this shit happens. Dumb move as we'll not ever go back. Lesson learned. Food is good, but stick with beer in this place.

I was hoping this would be a nice local place to get a bite; unfortunately, it was not. Starting with, we stood at the door several minutes before anyone acknowledged us. There were maybe 4 occupied tables at the time (I say this because I am always looking at extenuating circumstances for a bad overall experience). Our fish sandwich and clam strips were overcooked, tasted like they were cooked in old oil. The clams were so hard they were left uneaten, by the time the server checked on us we just wanted to leave. Leaving was another issue, after 3 attempts to get the correct check (we did not ask to delete or change anything) we gave up and paid what appeared to be the closest. I think the final irk for me was there was only one server and when she got busy another person got up from hanging out at the bar and helped her only briefly then returned to their bar seat while the other server struggled. As a former restaurant person, I do not like people going from bar patron to food server; it's just bad management. If you want beer and a pool table, then it may be your place; but I would skip the food.
