I cant come back.... Things have changed. It's not the affordable, tasty, clean and w a twist of nostalgia from nowhere place it use to be. The Cheddars kitchen we are used to has turned into a building charging money for a seat and half ass service. Had to search for my waiter/ bartender who was jovial with her co workers but treat me and my dad like a number(she forgot). The food was tasteless but the BEER WAS COLD. Wasn't as busy as any of the other restaurants; but turned out to be a good choice even though. I had tilapia and shrimp. It was blacked and had a cream sauce; over rice with 2 sides. Cheddars food is consistently good as to why we return but the service time is awful. You will wait 10 minutes for a drink once you are sat. They have a ton of staff cleaning and setting up for new tables yet none to actually serve. We witnessed 3 people walking about and talking last night while our Server ran around nonstop trying to refill drinks and such. This is the case every time we've gone. I know in the last year, a lot of places are very short staffed, and some places even post signs by front door, stating so, and "please be patient". But, this was crazy. The four of us got seated right away in the main area in booth, but near a large party of like 10 in the middle. It looked like maybe 2 other booths were occupied in the same area. When the waiter came to our table, you can tell he was not happy. He asked for our drink order. My friend always orders a "double Jameson-neat". The waiter looked at him and said "Neat", and my friend explained "no ice". My other friend asked for lemonade with shot of vodka. Again, the waiter was perplexed. We said just bring the lemonade, and the shot on the side..she will mix it. I just had a glass of white wine, and my fiancee ordered a arnold palmer. When the waiter came back, I got water, said they had to open the bottle of wine for me. My fiancee and friend got two glasses each of lemonade and arnold palmers, and waters and my other friend got 1 shot glass of his whiskey. He looked at the shot glass. The waiter asked, "what is wrong with it?". He said, "usually, it is in a bigger, short glass, and I asked for a double, this is a single". The waiter got "huffy" and went up front to the hostess stand, and talked to the manager about this. The manager came over, and said "So, we have a problem with the drink?' He explained again, and manager said he would fix. They came back out with the larger, shorter type glass...had one shot in it, and came with the same shot glass with whiskey in it. The waiter said "they said you wanted to see that it was two shots". This was soooo weird. NEVER have I have seen this before! We order the chips with cheese and salsa, and the cheese was not heated. So, we asked if we could get a new one, heated. He was not happy, but came back with heated one. We saw table next to us leave, and the waiter went over there, and then heard telling the manager "well, i am the only one working this whole area". The dishes stayed on that table for awhile. When our food finally came, they forgot one side dish, gave us mashed potatoes, which we did not order, and my steak and ribs, both over done. They finally brought out my broccoli by the time we were almost finished. The waiter was a little nicer by the end, but could tell, he was just overworked, and not happy. Me and my boyfriend went to eat last minute and decided on cheddars since it's been a while. First bad thing was we waited like 10 mins before being acknowledged and waitresses were just walking past our table and just nothing. I ended up having to flag someone down and ask if we have a waitress cause no one has came. Eventually a waitress came and we ordered everything it had been that long we decided what we wanted. The food was good but the service was not the best at the time. I was disappointed my pasta came with 5 slices of chicken as pictured I mean I don't expect 10 chicken breast but at least enough for the pasta would've been nice. Cheddars Casual Cafe became Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen quite awhile back. So I stopped in for a sit down meal to see what had actually changed. The menu items didn't change much from their "Casual Cafe" concept to their "Scratch Kitchen" makeover. Most of their signature dishes remained the same, except prices had increased slightly. As usual, with Cheddar's, your experience is luck of the draw. Much like a network router flapping, they're either on their mark or they're a shambles. I went around 6:30 on a Saturday night. My waiter was prompt and attentive, which was the only positive part of the experience that evening other than the Mexican martini I was able to enjoy while I watched the paint dry. What went wrong? - There was a mutiny of sorts in the kitchen - As a consequence, it took an hour from order to delivery of my food - The lemon pepper fish I ordered was served blackened. And by "blackened", I mean burned. - From entry to exit, dining alone, it took 90 minutes My waiter was prompt with drink refills and very apologetic throughout the process. He explained the kitchen situation as best he could, and was prompt at summoning a manager when I wanted to voice my concerns. The manager was apologetic, and reempahsized the kitchen issues were to blame. She also comped my meal (not including beverages, as I requested). I still believe good food and good times can be had here. You're just never sure what food and which times the planets will align for a pleasurable experience. So .. Cheddar's isn't a gourmet restaurant .. I wouldn't say its fancy or special in anyway. The food is cheap. That being said I absolutely love Cheddar's. I think this type of restaurant is on every corner street in America .. Usually you get a Chillie's or Appleby's., both of which I would rather dine in hell than eat at. Cheddar's has very plain food. You can get Steak or Chicken Strips you traditional American dishes. I am a big fan of the spinach dip here. Its just spinach covered in Alfredo sauce but there's nothing wrong with that. I wanted to give Cheddar's 4 stars I do love it here it just doesn't excite me in anyway. read more

Manager stated they recently hired 25 new employees, mostly kitchen staff. Our food was horrible. White fish almost raw, beans and rice packed full of salt (our waitress couldn't even eat it), baked potato was cold, mashed potatoes had been sitting out for hours (cold and dried out), gravy was really salty as well. Chicken fried steak was fair. The cold slaw was decent and the two rolls served before our meal were good. The waitress was excellent but embarrassed about the crappy food she had to serve us. This was our favorite restaurant until yesterday. Save your time and money, go somewhere else to eat. Worse yet, we talked to the manager (I assume) and he offered no apology or encouragement for us come back!! I really like this place. Third visit since moving to Austin. I've had good BBQ from various places and their ribs were a very pleasant surprise! Generous portion, fall off the bone tender and tasty! Had to wait a minute but went online for the wait list and it wasn't long til we were seated. Initial service was excellent but soda refill was hard to get and I gave up on it. Surprise! We were seated immediately by a very polite and attentive hostess. The waitress that we were seated for took a while to arrive at our table to take drink orders. Once the drinks came, we waited a long time for straws that she promised she would return with, but I had to go into the bar area to get straws on my own. The bartender wasn't at the bar so I helped myself. The bar smelled of dry and fermented beer that had been spilt and left on the floor like the morning after a frat house party. After returning to our table, another long wait for the waitress to show up to take our order, she had forgotten the straws. After receiving our food fairly quickly, we did not see our waitress EVER again. She did not check on any needs, requests, or refills. She did not once return to our table. I was only ever given the single soda that I initially ordered and never again offered a refill. The potato soup was the main reason we chose to eat at Cheddar's, but it was lacking and overly thick. The Cesar salad had, what seemed to be, an entire bottle of dressing covering it. We flagged the manager down for to-go plates, paid our tab on the virtual tablet and left. This was the most poor display of customer service I've ever encountered. On a side note, the floor was slick and greasy. My shoes would not grip due to the amount of oil coating the floor. The seat-backs of the booth we were sat in leaned forward and were very uncomfortable. The best part of our experience was being seated very quickly and honestly when we left. We will not be returning to this restaurant again and we advise against it as your next choice of dining. Pretty darn good for the price. This location is busy, so the service is kind of slow. It took 25+ minutes for an order of two people to come out. We tried the top sirloin steak with half rack of ribs, and the monte cristo. Both were good! Unfortunately they both came out a little lukewarm. The monte cristo wasn't as crispy as it would be if it was freshly fried, but pretty decent. The steak surprised me; it was cooked medium rare exactly like asked, and it was pretty tender and flavorful. The ribs were cooked well too. Definitely recommend this dish! For the sides, the "loaded" potato only comes with sour cream and cheddar. The cole slaw and cheese and broccoli casserole were all pretty standard, and pretty decent. read more

I love this place! I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago for take out, and even though I live all the way out in Dripping Springs and it took me 30 minutes to get home, the food was still fresh and tasty when we ate it. You could tell that the food was good quality! Since then I've been back four times to eat at their restaurant (my kids love it and always request it). The service is always friendly and fast. I love their salmon -- it is always moist and tasty; I'm not a fan of dried overcooked salmon and that's never an issue at Cheddars. Their rice is delicious! I also love their buttery corn and my kids love their chicken tenders and baked potato. There are still so many other items on their menu I want to try, so we will be back often! read more

I stopped here with my mom back in January of 2016 - my first visit to a Cheddar's. I'd never heard of the restaurant, and to be honest, I had my mouth set for something else (not Cheddar's). We were not in a hurry exactly, but we had limited time since we had to be at the airport for a flight later that afternoon. We knew we wouldn't be able to take any leftovers with us, so I ordered the appetizer ("sampler") portion of the chicken tenders and my mom ordered the vegetable plate and we agreed we'd share. This was a really good choice. The chicken tender appetizer was just the right size and came with french fries. It went perfectly with the coleslaw my mom had ordered as part of her veggie plate. I know she had beans, possibly okra (though I don't see that on the menu now) - all of the veggies were very good, but I love my southern veggie plates! Service was fast and friendly, and we made it to the airport in plenty of time. I'll definitely stop back by when I'm in the area. read more

Cheddar's is one of my fiancee's favorite restaurants. We have been to this location several times, but I think that we were spoiled by the ones in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The food here is inconsistently good. I order the Monte Cristo every time I come here, or any other location. Of the four times that I have come to this location, only once has it been prepared properly. My fiancee always gets the salmon and she has similar experience. We both enjoyed the last time we went here, so maybe it has been worked out now. Croissants for the win! The margaritas are weak. I guess this may depend on the bartender since we typically come around the same time when we do go (Friday evening). It's funny because every time we come here, the bar is packed so one would assume that the drinks are good. Not the case. The bartender must measure the alcohol because the margaritas here are so disappointing. I order the sangria margarita every time I go to any Cheddar's. Can I feel a little something from one drink at least? Might as well order lemonade and save 4 bucks. Service is usually really good. The servers are cool but can be slow at times. Last time, we ordered from the bar and sat outside. They forgot us and the server threw out one of those "problem in the kitchen" lines that lets you know they forgot to enter your order. This would be easier to overlook if the drinks were stronger LOL! The building is modernized and the location is pretty good, though it can be difficult to manage from the busy service road. Helps if you know the streets behind the restaurant, otherwise can be kinda sketch getting in and out. Skrrt. Overall, I recommend, but wouldn't go out of my way to get here. read more

Never in my life have I uttered the words, "my burger had bones in it". Wasn't really a big deal until the manager refused to take it off the bill, because she said, "it was cartilage". Cheddar's is known for their scratch made chicken tenders, but somehow decided it's okay to pass off thinly sliced chicken breast/nuggets as chicken tenders (instead of breading and frying actual chicken tenders). We pointed it out to the manager who was unapologetic, and basically told us it's too bad for us because they switched to a new chicken supplier who only sends them sliced chicken breasts. Son ordered the new recipe chicken Alfredo which I was told is the Alfredo sauce of Olive Garden and I can't imagine how bad it was since isn't really good now. I had two chicken fried steaks and the chicken was freezer burned and even smothered with gravy didn't help it. My wife ordered the monte Cristo sandwich and I can tell you that my wife and kid loved it. This place needs some serious work on its menu. Cheddar's is a great place to enjoy a variety of great fresh cooked plates. I ordered a grilled parmesan chicken and it was delicious. I would recommend coming with a big appetite to enjoy the food. There are also drink at the bar where you can have some signature drinks. I would recommend this restaurant to eat and enjoy your time as a group. read more

I gave cheddars 5 stars for primarily the service, our server John was awesome! He made our stay absolutely amazing, he was very attentive to our drinks which I appreciated. For example my sprite was half empty and he was already on the way with another, same with my friends sweet tea. My fiancé had the margarita, it was the Texas Sangria Margarita and this was the best thing we ordered. It is a quick for sure way to get lit, they make their drinks with love and honestly it was the best margarita I had, in a while. I ordered the chicken tender parm and it was decent- it didn't have enough sause or cheese but I really liked the chicken. I appreciate the generous portion because I ate it as left overs. When I go to cheddars next time I will order what my fiancé got which was the New Orleans Pasta- it had SO MUCH MEAT! An awesome amount of pasta and it was seasoned to the Gods! My friend Sophia has the Pecan Chicken Salad with balsamic she said she enjoyed it and would order it again. Now on to the appetizers and dessert- the Honey Butter Croissants WERE SO GOOD- they are a must if you are going to cheddars! The chips and queso were good, but our cheese was cold and we got very few whole chips, I think we got the bottom of the bag. I am being nit picky with these issues but in all honesty this place is well priced for what you get- and the $5 margarita was the cherry on top. read more

My family ordered for pick up this evening. The food was decent. Have to temper expectations when taking food to go because it's not the same as coming straight out of the kitchen. So why one star? The handling of our situation was poor. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with a house salad. I received blue cheese dressing, but no salad. I received my chicken, but no gravy. I called the restaurant to let them know. As a manager myself, I want to know when customers expectations are not met, and do my best to make it right. I let the person that answered know what happened. They asked, "do you want to speak to someone about that?" I said sure, the manager might want to know to prevent this in the future. The response was, "okay, thanks and have a great day." And, hung up. Miscommunication, obviously. But, still no excuse for not trying to offer something to fix the situation. Even giving me the choice to come pickup my salad and some gravy would have been better than dismissing me. I hope someone reads this that can provide a little training. For now, that was my last Cheddars order for a while. These are tough and unusual times. Plenty of other restaurants are still providing excellent service. read more

I know this place doesn't get great reviews, but my husband and I are fans. We've always had a pleasant experience and the food is inexpensive and unpretentious. It's unfussy and doesn't try to be anything more than what's listed on the menu. We've always received pleasant and prompt service. Their menu has a lot of variety and most entrees come with your choice of two sides. They have a good selection of lower calorie options if you are watching your eating habits. They offer a full bar menu as well. The food I've ordered has always been tasty. I've gotten the salmon a number of times. I also enjoy their coleslaw which I get frequently as a side. The best part is the price is so reasonable that it really makes eating here a no-brainer if you're looking for a quick meal. The food is solid. read more

I had never stopped in here because nothing really grabbed my attention about the building or the sign. One day, about 5 years ago, a client suggested we have lunch here. The restaurant has a very subdued, laid-back atmosphere. It seems geared towards an older demographic, but the concept works well for business meetings. The food is all made from scratch. No pre-made frozen desserts from a distributor, no pre-cooked pasta, pre-packaged sauces that only need to be heated in their microwave. It's all made on-site from raw ingredients. Read the bad reviews but decided to give the place a chance anyway. Big mistake. Walked in, no line, hostess tells us it will be a minute. Half the restaurant was empty. We waited five minutes for a table with our baby. Then our waiter comes by, doesn't smile, looks pissed off, and gets our drink order. We also ordered an appetizer. The appetizer came out in ten minutes. We still did not get our drinks til five minutes after that. 15 minutes for drinks! Then we ordered. Fast forward 30 minutes and we haven't seen our waiter since and have just been sitting there with a hungry baby. I ordered another drink but it never came. Finally we lost our patience and went to get the waiter to pay for the appetizers and drinks. Couldn't find him so we did something I've never done before. We walked out. I'm a former waiter and easy to please diner as long as the place is trying. I tip well. But this place and the waiter were so incompetent and could not have cared about us less. My family and I have been to Cheddar's plenty before the pandemic. But we've ordered curbside 3 times in the past two months. Trip one was the burger bungle, unfortunately no longer offered. But for trip two and three we got the chicken tender bundle. On our order yesterday, they were out of green bean casserole and Seth (the manager) called to ask for the replacement and applied a discount for the inconvenience. Sadly, when we got home the expected fries were missing from inside the foil tray that usually sit with the chicken. Made a call and Seth sounded very sincere, he had some fresh hot fries ready on our return and emailed an additional discount for a future meal. Today, Cheddar's Guest Relations (Kyle) reached out and sent an additional eGift card. Cheddar's went out of their way and did everything they could to make amends! TL;DR- Order was slightly messed up, Seth and his team went above and beyond to show their sincerity. Can't wait to try the Rib Bundle soon! read more

We've ordered from here several times. It's curbside only now. So, there should be absolutely no reason for sloppy plating & too-small portions. The fish was not the problem...it was the seasoned rice under the fish. It used to pretty much cover the bottom of the tray. I got TWO BITES. I promise I didn't touch the rice between carefully picking up the fish & taking the pic. The salad had less lettuce than other stuff and should have been cut smaller. My wife's extremely thin but large ribeye was supposed to be more rare than medium but it was mid-well by the time she got it home and very difficult to chew. Quite a disappointing meal. read more

We came at an off peak period. Very few customers, and it still took 15 minutes for them to get our order. It then took them over a half hour to make our food, including a grilled cheese that wasn't cooked and ultimately caused food poisoning to the folks that ate it, and subsequently totally wrecked the next day for the family. I couldn't even flag the waitstaff to get my bill and when I finally did, they couldn't connect not receiving a tip to their horrible service.
