The highlight of Cheddar's has to be the booze. The food is mediocre and the service is manic. Of course, that basically describes any mindless restaurant chain, and Cheddar's is definitely one of many in the Dover area. There is better food out there, although it's probably in Wilmington or Rehoboth Beach. As I'm originally from Philadelphia, I'm accustomed to great food and I consider a better meal to be worth the longer drive. Your mileage, pardon the pun, may vary. read more

The first time me and my boyfriend went to cheddar's, we had a pleasant experience. Our waitress was nice, our appetizers got there quick, and I got a shaken iced tea from the bar and it was delicious. Our entrees were good and we took home the leftovers. We bragged to everyone about our awesome experience. We recently went there again a couple of weeks later, expecting the same service and food we had enjoyed the first time. Unfortunately it seemed like a different place. We waited about 30 minutes, which wasn't that bad, but once we were finally seated, our waitress was no where to be found. When she showed up, she seemed distracted and confused. She took our drink orders and our appetizer order and left. Our drinks arrived about 10 minutes later and then we ordered our entrees. Finally it had been an hour since we first arrived at cheddar's and all we had were our drinks. Our appetizers arrived so long after we ordered them that we almost asked for the check and left. Once we got our three choice appetizer, which was nachos , potato skins and mozzarella sticks, it was not up to par. The nachos were especially displeasing and they looked as though they had been sitting out for a long time. Our food arrived short time after and our waitress was still taking forever and not even making eye contact when she came to our table. I got the ribs and they were very dry -they looked like the bottom of a foot. It was disgusting. The best part of the meal was the French fries. Our favorite part of the evening was finally getting the check and leaving. The waitress tried to be extra nice to us last minute so we would give her a good tip, but it was just annoying. Soon after I left I felt sick to my stomach and chest. We're never going back there again. read more

The food was pretty good with the exception of the fact that the soup was served less than lukewarm. The service needs help... The waitstaff needs to be trained properly. When you serve a beverage, always provide a napkin. A patron may squeeze lemon in iced tea or lime in their beer... It gets all over their hand plus the condensation on the glass another issue... It's just basic courtesy to give a napkin with a beverage. I think this must be a policy of the restaurant because two other patrons came in and ordered drinks and a different waitress also did NOT give them napkins. I had to ask for that and EVERY other thing that I needed including salt. Note to wait staff: If a patron asks you for salt, give them salt AND pepper because that will save you running around later to get the other item they will likely need. When serving food also give utensils to eat it with:( I was concerned about the doneness of my hamburger and the waitress asked me to see if it was cooked correctly... I had to indicate to her that I had no utensils to cut into it. I never got a refill on my beverage until I asked for it towards end of meal. In other words the waitress was completely inattentive. To summarize I had to ask for: Napkin Salt Utensils Hot soup Refill Ridiculous I know but even sadder was that the waitress never smiled once. I felt like I was in a funeral home and that her best friend had died. Clearly she does not like this job. Nobody said goodbye when I left at the door including the hostess staff. No one made me feel compelled to want to return here even if the food was good. To their credit, the restaurant is beautiful and well appointed and seems extremely clean. read more

They have the best burger in town. It's big, it's delicious and it's less than six bucks. I watched from across the highway as they built the place in front of Lowes, and looked forward to another place we (Diamond Motor Sports) could grab a quick bite for lunch. They had some growing pains when they first opened, but now that the employees are trained and have some experience, you're bound to have a great experience. I'm not kidding about the burger, and they have some other great items on the menu. You can seat yourself at the bar if they wait holds you up - they've got plenty of flat screens in that area as well as a huge fish tank as a back drop. We look forward to take-out once a week, as well as the occasional drop in for a seat. read more

Our first time visiting and eating at Cheddar's and I was very pleased. We were celebrating my husbands birthday and since i was treating I paid close attention to the meals and the service. Our server, Michael, was very nice, attentive and helpful. My husband got the bourbon pork chop which looked marvelous and he said was excellent (as noted by his cleaned plate) I had the grilled whitefish which was also excellent and cooked perfect. Me Brian, Kendrick, and Steve came here for lunch when we were in the area playing disc golf on a cold Sunday, and were really surprised to see a cheddar's so of course we came with bells on! Everyone really thought the food was tasty, but there were some problems unfortunately. I wouldn't even call them problems as much as areas to improve upon, all of which will help in sales and overall business. First, the drinks are very syrupy down!? We all ordered the long islands and there was very little to minimal liquor in any of them. The food for the most part was fresh and very tasty, with the exception of an app of large cheese fries we ordered that came out after about 20 mins and around 10 mins after our cheese bites. The waitress said there was a problem with the order, but it seems liked they were looked over and then rushed out undercooked and very light portioned. The manager comped them off the bill, which was the right thing to do, but we didn't even eat them. In closing, the staff seemed to be doing ok, considering the lunch rush, probably a little more coaching or having a couple more servers so they can bus the tables a little faster and be a little more conscientious of their customers. I know food cost is an issue, but you don't want to sacrifice customer service and quality. Remember this is a chain restaurant, so you don't technically have to wow every customer, but that shouldn't allow you to not deliver a quality experience for every guest. We have given Cheddars three tries in the last two years and it just continually disappoints. Long waits and total chaos at the hostess station. The last time we went, the young hostess spent most of the 45 minutes we were waiting on her cell phone and adjusting her too-short skirt which kept riding up. Our waitress was ok at first but seemed impatient with us and other tables near us. Drinks and appetizer came out quickly but she forgot silverware. Our entrees (steak and chicken) were lukewarm upon arrival and cold by the time the waitress breezed by our table. We waited another 15 minutes for our warmed-up food which by now was also dried out. Another waitress brought us to-go containers and we left cash and 10% tip. We noticed two other tables go tired of waiting for our waitress and left cash as well. We won't be back. read more

Tried several times to check out Cheddars but the wIt was ridiculous and one time we were told an hour but an hour and a half later they said it would be another 30 mins because the kitchen was behind. We left but vowed to try again during the week rather than a weekend. The food was rather bland and certainly not worthy of an hour plus wait. Just ate dinner. Arrived at 730, placed our orders within 20 min of arrival, requesting for our dinner orders to not be put in until 10 min later, as we we had just received our appetizers. Our dinners didn't come out until 840, with our salads arriving AFTER our meals were delivered. We brought this issue up to the manager and he just stared at us like he was unsure of our problem. It's Thursday... why we had to wait an hour for our meals is unknown. The establishment didn't even have full seating. Our server was Stephanie. I went to Cheddars tonight for a birthday celebration for my mother, she love's Cheddars! The service as usual was great. The wait staff was very attentive, shout out to Hannah for doing an amazing job. The food however was subpar. For the appetizers we had spinach dip which was a tad salty. My mother's food was warm, she prefers to eat nice hot food straight from the vessel which it was cooked in. I had the Bacon Burger with a side of horseradish(yum). The burger was medium well a bit more medium then I liked. The bacon could have been cooked a little longer. I ended up eating only half of the burger. Unfortunately for us today was an off day for Cheddars, as far as food goes. We will definitely give it another try, the atmosphere is awesome! read more

My family and I went to Cheddar's a few months ago while out of town. Unfortunately, a couple of us had just been getting over a stomach flew so we weren't able to eat much. I ordered a steak and being more of a comfort food place, I expected average at best. Now I wouldn't say this if I didn't mean it, but it was truly the best steak I've ever had at a restaurant. Everyone's meals were fantastic, the service was fast and friendly, despite it being super busy, and the portions were huge and even gave us enough for leftovers the next night! We stopped here after checking out of our hotel and heading home for lunch, we were a party of 5. We don't have one in our area so we thought we would give it a try and see how it was. It looks fairly new? We were seated quickly by the hostess way across the restaurant in the last room. And then we waited....and waited......and waited. I understand things are slower in Delaware. This was lunch time and the place wasn't crowded. I'm very particular about being seated and seeing a server. I give them 5 minutes tops and then I'm looking for a manager. As usual no server so I caught ones attention as she walked by (she wasn't our server but she did get us drinks) We finally saw our server Sarah as she delivered our drinks without any introduction or pleasantries. I was starting to steam. We ordered an appetizer of onion rings which were delicious, light and airy and my daughter got a salad/entrée. She asked my daughter if she wanted it brought out prior to her meal? That's how I eat my salad, doesn't everyone? Another thing that plucks my nerves is the length of time it takes to get drink refills. Again, "slow" was the word of the day. Overall the food was good and filling. I would go back again but I would like management to address the issue with their employees about the amount of time from being seated to being waited on. Buttered croissant's were delicious and plates were overflowing. Very inexpensive and the drink prices are cheap. No alcohol this time as I was driving. Try it if you're in the area. read more
