Cheddars casual dinning cafe , Hmmm where to start ? There is a laundry list of terrible things to say to kick off this review. But the food isn't one of them. The line cooks/chefs work hard to always keep the food consistent & delicious when I'm dinning in , so great job guys ! Now.... The service is a whole different ball game , if you wanted a drink or to even order food be prepared to wait at least till hell freezes over , and If they bring you the wrong beverage which happens 100% of the time be prepared to wait till the cows come home for them to get it right . After you have waited for a minimum of 100 years, I mean 45 minutes Your food and the appetizer will always comes out at the same time so if your super hungry and didn't want to enjoy your food separately that could be a HUGE advantage for you. Btw I'm pretty sure most of the people " fit a description" or look like a familiar Mug shot that dine and serve there. Not kidding. Our sever had tear drop tattoos all over her face , I didn't know they allowed severs to have their nails that long or that many piercings , I was like WHOAH this is pretty epic like a page right of of US weekly on what not to wear EVER! Now I've eaten here at least 5 times in the last 2 years , to you know give them a chance to redeem themselves from the last disaster I had experienced but just as aspected Cheddars is not only consistent with the great food when you get it but also a bad dinning experience. IF your looking for a long wait time for : beverage, food, or dessert or even a chance to relive a scene from the show Cops then THIS is the place FOR YOU! And really one star is too much credit, maybe a HALF star would be more appropriate . read more

First of all, on the positive side, they have beautiful ceiling fans! Now, to the rough part. We arrived there at 3:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon and was told the wait would be about 20 minutes. We went to the bar and sat for 15+ minutes, saw the bartender standing by the register at the bar, but he apparently didn't want to take a drink order. We went back outside and smoked a cigarette and then returned to the bar. At that time a different person came and took a drink order. We were called to our table a bit after that - our total wait was about 45 minutes. We went to the table and placed our order. We had 2 main courses, 2 drinks and an appetizer. First thing that arrived was my chicken fried steak - I explained that we haven't had our drinks delivered yet or our appetizer. Our appetizer arrives about 10 minutes later, and then immediately the other person in my party received their main course. Mind you, they had not received their salad yet. A little later I received my food again. We were in the zone near the kitchen and people were running into each other and very noisy. Apparently, there are many more staff than needed since many were standing around. We reach the end of the dinner and I ask about the salad and roll. The salad finally arrived at the time with the dessert. I did complain to the manager, however, he was busy seating people while 3 hostess were standing around him. Apparently, their 1 week of training prior to opening was insufficient and no one had experience in a restaurant before. We needed somewhere to eat for the night while in Little Rock, and we had an excellent time here. We had the friendliest waiter who went by the nickname "Chef" and he put smiles on all of our faces. If I could give 0 stars I would. This is the worst place to go in town. I sat at the bar. Didnt get greeted for about 10 minutes. Bartender was sitting in booth on her phone. She was cussing loudly. When I finally got her attention she walked behind bar and said what do you want. Excuse me for coming in. I thought I ealked into a restaurant to eat. I had to ask what her name was. It was Jennifer. After I ordered I headed to restroom to walk hands. I incidently walked into kitchen instead of restroom hallway. The kitchen was A MESS! There was trash everywhere and plates sitting on the floor. I went to front to let a manager know to cancel my food. The host said that the manager was too busy to come talk and started laughing. They pointed to managers. I walked out and called. I asked the host what the managers names were. Come to find out it was the GENERAL manager LARRY and SERVICE manager MATT that was sitting on a bench. No wonder this place is a piece of crap! Scared to eat here ever again. read more

Horrible service. Waited 15 minutes for drink order to be taken. Waited another 15 minutes for drinks to be delivered. They served my 5 year old child a drink in a glass with no lid. The server said they didn't have cups with lids. We were able to get one from the bartender. She also got the flatware our table. We waited over an hour for our meal, it never arrived. They still charged us $30 for our drinks and appetizer. No manager could be found and no explanation was given. Our first and LAST visit. The staff is horrible! Came in told the girl at the front we were going to have a large party, she would not sit us until every single person got there. Mind you she had a terrible attitude the whole time talking to us! So everyone finally gets there and she says well I can't sit y'all all together, y'all will have to sit in a booth back to back... Got the Monte Crisco and French Fries and it was great. Lovely meal, I think I will try to make this at home. Excellent waitress, she keep my drink full and almost made sure on every water refill that I got my lemon and also in my coke. I can say that this young lady paid attention to detail and was very polite and got my meal to me and my family in a timely manner and it wasn't over cooked or burnt. LOVELY... Catfish? Was it? Eaten here twice. Food was exceptional and reasonably priced. One thing is bothering me though. I had the catfish lunch today and everything about the fish--shape, texture, flavor-- made me wary that I was actually served a substitute fish of some kind (I've heard restaurants are doing this recently). Another clue I inferred was from the price; In a market where many of my favorite restaurants for catfish have taken it off the menu because the market price has more than doubled, this was a heaping serving for only $6.99--this was my second clue that I might have been slipped a substitute. This was our first visit in several years and it has definitely gone downhill. First the server was very friendly and was working her ass off but it was obvious they were short staffed. We waited 10 minutes before our drink order was taken. We ordered the trio appetizer that included 4 chicken strips. Received our platter with our drinks about 5 minutes after ordered. After we noticed our trio was short with only 3 strips, we waited for our server. After about 5 minutes, we decided to go ahead and eat. Set my watch timer and 13 minutes continued before we ever saw any server much less ours. After another 38 minutes we received our food and refills. Food was above average. At this point waitress was more frequent and refills were made. Never saw a manager to discuss and figured we would leave and not spend our money here again. I been coming here since they open. At first the service wasn't great but i expected that since they just open and the staff is new but the service have got better the last couple of times I was there. I thought they did a great job of sitting people down(even when there's an hour wait). My waiter was very nice and helpful(something you don't see in restaurants these days) and took our order right away. We ordered cheese dip and salsa for appetizer and I had the Philly cheesesteak. It only took 30 minutes for them to bring our appetizer and my entree. I tasted my companion's cheese dip and salsa and I must say they have some of the best queso I had at a chain restaurant (though not as great as Mexico Chiquito's cheese dip). The beef that you can order without additional charge is great too. My Philly cheesesteak was delicious too with real shaved ribeye meat, real tomatoes, and swiss cheese. The fries that came with my meal were salty. Anyway, if you looking for a great place to eat that is reasonable price come here but do expect a 45 min to an hour wait especially around 5 pm. read more

Cheddars does not face straight on to University and the sign is not visible from University, so if your are not familiar with the restaurant, you might drive by without realizing it is there. They have a Fair amount of parking. Entrance faces University Mall. Friendly, upbeat Waiters are at the door to greet you, we were seated immediately. Our server introduced himself (Donald) and took our drink order. That is when the welcome mat stopped. I requested water with lemon. I received plain water. My sister order water and was given my water with lemon so it was easy to just switch. When I unrolled my silverware to place my napkin in my lap, I noticed dried food still on my fork so I requested clean silverware. I received clean silverware but not in a very gracious manner. He did come back and check on us after we received our order. One positive here, the napkins are large and very thick. For and appetizer we ordered onion rings, they arrived hot and in a timely manner. For our main meal, my sister ordered the vegetable plate. You get to select 4 items from the veggie menu plus a soup and bread. She requested the loaded baked potato soup and a croissant. The soup was hot and had nice big chunks of potatoes, the croissant was brushed with honey butter. I ordered the chicken fried steak, serving sizes are huge and you don't leave hungry. I agree with the other reviewers, the food is good but the service could be improved. Being someone that has worked in restaurants their whole life I really dont like giving bad reviews but I just cant give this Cheddars anything but that. I have been to this location quite a few times now and theres always a long wait for a table whether it be for the bar area or in the dining room section. I don't understand why it's so busy when the prices aren't cheap and everyone complains about the service guess it's just because of the location and I'm guilty of this, I still return knowing that the service and food is never going to be anything special. I always end up ordering a steak which is either completely raw and I don't mean rare I mean raw to the point where you would get very sick from eating it or well done. I always order medium rare. I know what medium rare looks like and ive yet to recieve it. The drinks are a hit or mess but you can guarantee that you're going to be waiting a good 20 minutes before you get your drink. I always order my second when the server buts my first down on the table because of how long they take. My appetizers always come out after the meals. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. read more

This was my first and last time eating this place. At first glance the restaurant was nicely decorated and staff were dressed well. I was shocked, however, when I opened the menu and see all this run-of-the-mill food. I don't think the menu matched the decor and the atmosphere. Not that I expected a fine dining experience but just something better. Then I tried to order a bud light draft. Well, guess who doesn't have bud light on draft? Cheddar's, that's who. I mean what bar doesn't have bud light on draft? For an appetizer, we ordered spinach dip. I didn't know I would have to be cooking when I went out to eat. The 'spinach dip' came in a big boat with sour cream plopped on top and a bowl of salsa. It was literally just spinach in a bowl. I had to cut up the spinach, add the salsa, and stir it to make it a 'dip'. My wife had the smokehouse burger which she had to PURCHASE a side of fries for. I think that is preposterous, having to buy fries separately with a burger. The burger had no taste. I ordered the beer battered shrimp which were decent. My loaded baked potato was cold and wouldn't even melt the butter. The green beans were good. The server needs to learn how to prebus the table. Our appetizer plate stayed with us all night. Overall very disappointed and I will not be giving them any more money. read more

I've visited Chedder's several times..& is seems like everytime they are out of something. One visit they were out of sour cream. ..next visit they didn't have the right mix for the Moonshine punch...this visit they were out of croissants!!!! This was probably the most disappointing experience we've had in a long time. Went at 5:00pm Saturday which we had a 30 minute wait (not a problem as they do not take reservations) when we were seating we had quite a lengthy wait before our server, Pauline stopped by. Our group of four had three ice teas and one bar drink. Ordered the triple treat platter for a starter which arrived in short time and was very tasty. Ordered the entrees and waited and waited. The table next to us came in 20 mintues After us and received steak dinners before us. Still have not received the bar drink, Pauline said bar was backed up? Received the entrees, the sides that come with my country fried steak was not on plate. My wife ordered blackened red fish sandwich and came out on rice and not as sandwich, still no bar drink and dinner salads were brought with meal. When we asked to talk with manager, he arrived and basically apologized without sincerity. Then when we received the bill, was double charged for the fish sandwich. At first everything seemed okay. Then we ordered. I got a roadhouse burger. The sauce is so sweet it tasted like corn syrup. My wife got the Cajun pasta. You could see the grease. Okay, so contrary to the many negative post, I love this place. I can get an amazing, and healthy, meal here for am amazing price. The place looks expensive but it really isn't at all. This is the second time I've been and I got the salmon with ginger rice and the spinach dip. Perfectly sized portion for me and even had leftovers. My dad and husband went as well and the waitress brought a small salsa for anyone who didn't want spinach dip. My dad got the Cajun pasta, I've had it before, and loved it. Again, great price and you get so much that he had leftovers. My husband got their bbq burger and thought it was great. I see a lot of people complain about the wait staff but I've never had a problem. This place is always busy so unless you go around 2-4 (their down time) you have to understand the wait staff is extremely busy with more than just one or two tables. Our waitress was friendly but not overly so where it's uncomfortable. She answered questions and made sure we were taken care of. One plus for me and my family is she wasn't constantly hovering over us. We take the time to talk and relax while we eat and liked that she gave us time for that. We also never had to look for her for anything which meant she was doing her job of taking care of us. I keep in mind that everyone expects different things with customer service, which is why I clarified why we enjoyed the service, but people can give the wait staff a bit of a hard time with little understanding. Is it the best service we have ever received or best meals, no. But it is a place we enjoy where we get good meals at a good price and know we will be treated well. If you want 5 star service and food, go to a five star restaurant. This place has plenty of satisfied, repeat customers. read more

I'm always traveling around the nation for my employer and every city I stay in I always look for a Cheddar's to satisfy my hunger. I love everything about Cheddar's. The employee's always seem happy and the food comes out quickly. The food is typically fresh and delicious. My favorite menu item are those soft flakey honey buttered crescent rolls. This Cheddar's however was extremely disappointing. Here's why: 1. We waited 45 minutes to be seated even though there were many empty tables. 2. Our table was filthy and sticky when we were finally seated. 3. It took 20 minutes before we could order our drinks (we both had sweet tea). 4. It took an additional 20 minutes to get our tea, which was room temperature and had hardly any ice. We were parched so we drank them quickly. *waited another 20 min for a refill** 5. It was 30 min by the time we'd sat down to the time we ordered. I ordered a steak with steamed broccoli and a Caesar salad. My business partner ordered the same thing and an extra order of those delicious crescent rolls. 6. One hour after ordering, staring at our empty glasses we decided we just up and leave but then the food arrived and our glasses were refilled. (This was not a busy night) 7. The steak was way over cooked, the broccoli was bland and in seasoned and the honey butter looked like it was squeezed out of a ketchup bottle. 8. Our waitress was extremely rude and dismissive the entire time. There are many other reasons why this Cheddar's receiving one star but I think I've said enough. This has not change my opinion about the franchise and I will still continue to eat Cheddars every chance I get. But I will never ever return to this establishment. read more

Another wonderful late lunch at Cheddars! Hostess was friendly and welcoming and our preferred server, Ms. Cartrie, is always tops! She is friendly, warm and welcoming, very efficient and the best server you can ever hope to have! She truly wants you to enjoy good food and to have a great experience. I always have the lunch portion grilled salmon over rice pilaf and two baked potatoes. Today, my husband had a cup of baked potato soup and a cheeseburger. The food was delicious, as usual. We are always happy to enjoy a meal at Cheddars, thanks to Cartrie's excellent service and the wonderful food. Our bill before tip was under $20. read more

Food was horrible. I got the blackened white fish and the fish and rice were over cooked. The best part of my meal was a baked potato. Originally wanted the New Orleans pasta but I'm allergic to onions and though they claim everything is made from scratch I couldn't get the onions removed from the pasta or the sausage "because it comes that way." For an appetizer we got chips and Queso, the chips were really stale. Couldn't get bread and honey butter because there was a looong wait on bread. Our server only returned to give us drinks, didn't clear our table so we had dishes stacked up. I also got the mango tea and it tasted horrible.
