Normally we love Cheddar's and have given them high reviews in the past, but they definitely DO NOT have the curbside takeaway process down. I placed our order online at 6pm and was told it would be ready at 6:25pm. I changed the pickup time to 7pm and, thank God, didn't pay online. Arrived to a completely packed parking lot at 7pm. In the first 20 minutes of sitting there I saw THREE cars get their order. I started calling the restaurant to ask if there was something else that I needed to do to get my order. Got a busy signal. Called several more times and it was always busy. Finally at 7:40 I asked the car next to me when their order was supposed to be ready. They said 6:30pm and sadly they had paid online, so they were stuck. I sat there, placed and order online at Outback and left!!! I understand that Covid-19 is making things difficult, but if you can't get an alternative method to work for your restaurant, then you should just close, rather than have hundreds of upset customers. I've seen the parking lot full a couple of other times, but I had no idea that it was because Cheddar's can't get it together! UPDATE: Someone from Cheddar's called my cell at 8:15pm (our food was supposed to be out at 7pm) and said your food is ready are you still here. After eating so much bad food in Branson, we came here to see if Springfield had more to offer. I must admit where we lived in Colorado they built a Cheddar not to far from us which we went to a few times. Our California relatives had never been to one . We had to wait to be seated as it was lunch time. Was surprised to see a lunch menu with what we had decided on as we sat and waited. I was more surprised to see the size of the soup bowl. The baked potato soup was so good, and hubby liked his broccoli cheddar soup. The salads family got were big too and looked delicious. Love Cheddar's! I have visited several times. Love the chicken pot pie, club sandwich, salads and the croissants. I've had other items and none have been disappointing. Update: Stay away from the Alfredo. The pasta was over cooked, the sauce tasted like it came from a jar at the grocery store and the veggies they added were soggy. I go here all the time and noticed that recently all the regular waiters and waitresses that we love have vanished. Further, the prices have gone up and the food quality has dropped. Ill start by saying the floors and seating were very unclean. There was food all over the floor as well as in the booths. We got to our table and some of the food we received was cold. We also asked for additional condiments and were forgotten about. We were never offered any drink refills. The only saving grace to this place was the food was ok overall, the sever i finally asked for help ( as i was nervous to ask ours due to her standoff attitude ) and the apologetic and sympathetic manager. The place always looks to be totally packed and was exactly so when we opted to try it out. It turned out to be a fairly dismal hell hole of a hash house. The floors were slimy with grease. The silverware was dirty. The iced tea was surprisingly good. The croissant appetizers were decent enough. The house salad was strewn with a ruinous amount of hard-boiled egg and the waitress brought the wrong salad dressing. The chicken pot pie was watery and thin (and not even grocery store freezer section quality) and my friend said the best thing on her plate was the cooked carrots. Almost all the rest was entirely unappetizing. She did like the loaded baked potato soup. Given how meager the food was, the fact that the place is always packed is bewildering. If all you want is a small glass of decent enough iced tea ... have at it. We'll never set foot in the place again. read more

Unfortunately when we walked up to the bar the first bartender looked us up and down and didn't obviously like us because the attitude was upsetting. In the past I would have rated Cheddar's a 5, however, now I just can't.... some people may find this over exaggerated but with a growing vegan community in Springfield, something needs to be said. The Veggie Plate was a "go-to" for local vegans (myself included) when their meat eating friends would go out. I personally would get the DELICIOUS black beans, a sweet potato, and fries. I went to Cheddar's last night to see that other dishes on the menu included the black beans yet they aren't offered as a side?? I didn't make a fuss, I ordered fries and a drink and went on about my night. The other veggies have butter in them and honestly aren't as appealing or filling. I've gone to Cheddar's for 5 years and will not be returning... SO MANY restaurants are seeking to add vegan options to their menus to appeal to the rapidly growing vegan community, so why waste money on a restaurant that seeks to push us away? Sad. read more

Went to cheddar's on Friday on 10/12/2018. I brought 9 people who had never been there before. Appetizers were o.k. but the main course was disgusting. One person found a mental piece of a Brillo pad in his mouth. The food was cold and the steaks were still raw. The Manager had to refund our money but made us pay the bar bill. My buddy and I stop by during our lunch hour to this quaint little restaurant. The place was crowded so we thought we were in for a treat. We were sooo wrong. After waiting only 15 minutes to get seated. The waiter was pleasent and prompt. He quickly took our order and said it would be out in a minute. We both order steaks (mine, medium; his, medium well) We waited for what seemed like an eternity. Finally after complaining to the waiter that we were on our break, he went to the back to check on our food. To our surprise, we heard yelling and screaming coming from the kitchen. The waiter came back flustered and pale as a ghost. He said the grill cook was overwhelmed by the number of patrons ordering the steak. He assured us that 5 more minutes and our food would be out. Sure enough, five minutes later our steaks were brought out. At first glance, the food seemed cooked to perfection...until I flipped it over. Apparently, in his haste the cook decided to burn one side of my steak and then try to conceal this fact by serving it burnt side down. My buddy had a similar problem, he got his medium rare. I flagged the waiter down and showed him our problems. He nervously took our food back to the kitchen where more yelling and screaming could be heard. Two minutes later, a towering individual who had to of been close to 7 feet tall, strutted out of the kitchen. He was very menacing looking with his dew rag and long strides and he was eye-balling our table on his way to the other side of the restaurant. Ask he walked the perimeter, he would occasionaly yell "MOVE" to anyone that got in his way (employees AND patrons). I pulled one of the servers aside and asked if that was a manager. She told me that the large individual was the lead cook. Apparently, he was none to happy to have his steaks returned and seemed to be sizing us up for an assbeating or something. 10 minutes went by with no food. Needless to say, we left without eating there. We decided to stop at McDonalds for a burger. My fiance and I decided on Cheddars for dinner and a strong drink after a long day at work. We get seated right at 7pm. The dining room is somewhat busy, but servers are still out. We sit for FIFTEEN minutes without anyone checking on us before we decide to leave. A manager catches us on our way out and convinces us to give them a second chance- It was COLD outside, we were hungry, we agreed. The manager seated us in a new section. The new server was super attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious. My pomegranate margarita was tasty and strong. Both managers checked in to make sure our experience had improved. They could have easily lost two customers because of one server's mistakes, but the hospitality and willingness to correct the issue prevented this from happening. I wouldn't land here for a meal around brunch on the weekends, but we popped in this past Sunday evening around 5 and they were able to seat us immediately. The waitstaff has always been polite and efficient and the food has always come out surprisingly quickly, which makes me wonder what on earth their kitchen must look like (the menu has a variety of options in a ton of food categories). Sometimes I order healthier fare here, like their spicy edamame appetizer, but this past Sunday I went for the gold and ordered my childhood favorite, chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. I also ordered broccoli to ease my conscience just a tiny bit. The chicken fried steak was the epitome of indulgent comfort food - crunchy, thick (but not grossly thick, and not oily) breading surrounding a burger-like steak patty. Be still, my clogged but beating heart. The mashed potatoes and gravy were about the same as I've had anywhere else, but let's be honest - I've never met a mashed potato I didn't like (other than mashed potatoes I've made myself, but that's neither here nor there. Basic dishes are hard for me, okay?). Generally, I think Cheddar's is an American-fusion restaurant that nails down what other, much bigger chains can't seem to do. TGI Friday's, Chili's, and all those big boys can't have much control over the home-made aspect or well-trained service. She said she's not sure why the bartender refused to make the Patron margarita but that she would speak with them as well as the other bartenders and use this as a training tool. She did clarify that the man working the bar that I thought was a manager wasn't a manager, only another bartender who trains. She said she would like to send me some certificates for meals so that we would return to their Cheddar's or any other Cheddar's. She was extremely professional and courteous. read more

My second time here was a lot better. When I first moved to Missouri, my wife and I ate here, and it was so so. This last Sunday, our after church group came here for lunch. There was a wait, which we expected with a group of 8, but it really wasn't that long (maybe a half hour). The waitress was friendly, polite, courteous, helpful, and attentive. Our orders were correct, and tasted very good. They also were very quick with our orders, and the food was nice and hot. The restaurant was clean, and the noise level was not bad at all. Prices were decent as well, and everyone seemed happy with their meals. We really could not find anything wrong with this experience, and I believe Cheddar's with remain in our after church lunch group rotation. One of Springfield's most popular sit-downs. The food is plentiful and reasonable. The place gets pretty crowded around lunch and dinner but when you get the check you can understand why. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is pleasant. This is not a gourmet restaurant but it does offer very good food at a very good price. The burgers are excellent and I really love the mountain of onion rings you can order as an appetizer or side. They also make a very decent Philly Cheese-steak. read more

We had the absolute best service we've ever received at any restaurant in our lives. I'll start with drinks. I ordered an Angry Orchard and my husband ordered a strawberry tea. Our server brought me a frozen mug for mine which was super nice of him. And the strawberry tea was delicious. For our entrees, I asked a lot of questions about the salmon because I had never tried it in my life and was feeling adventurous. Our servers (there were two because one was in training) explained each salmon option in detail and suggested how I should try mine since I didn't know what I was in for. I ordered the bourbon glazed salmon with corn and the fruit and yogurt side dish. After my first bite, the servers came back to see how I liked it and they even brought me extra bourbon glaze in a dish for me to use as dip. My salmon was perrrrfect. The corn was sweet and buttery. The fruit and yogurt was amazing. I don't know what that extra thing was in the yogurt (I dare to say maybe it was ginger?) but it was extra delicious. My husband ordered the talapia and he loved it. His mashed potatoes weren't as hot as he'd have liked but he said that the taste made up for the temperature. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate trifle dessert mini and it was the perfect ending to a perfect dinner. My husband ordered the bread pudding and he absolutely loved it. Honestly we would go back every day if we could afford it. We just so happened to be splurging that night and we made the right choice. I recommend Cheddar's with every fiber of my being. read more
