This place is beautiful but that's where it ends. I had chicken wings and got food poisoning. Was up all night sick. Staff didn't care. Tried to order breakfast at 1130 which is listed until 1130 but breakfast was already put away. All I wanted was toast given I was up sick all night. Wouldn't even consider it. The house cleaning staff didn't really clean the room I walked in and all the toiletries were just thrown on the counter. The tv kept popping up an input screen that we had to keep dismissing. The fan wouldn't turn on without light being on. Leaves a lot to be desired for $380 a night. You expect more when you pay this much. read more

We came here for a 3 day girls weekend on the recommendation of a friend, and so glad that we booked this fabulous resort! I was blown away by the beauty of this property, and MOST importantly by the staff that made our experience one to remember. It is why I am writing this review! Upon arrival, we were greeted and guided in by the lovely valet guys that made sure we didn't have to struggle with our bags. The front desk ladies made the check-in process easy and we were in our rooms within minutes. A very BIG thank you to Alexis, who gave us a tour of the enormous property and amenities available. Alexis also helped coordinate our poolside plans, complete with cabana, drinks and snacks- we had an unforgettable day in the sun! The staff near the pool; Pio, Tony, Carlos, Chris and Mozzarello never missed a beat! They came by frequently to check on us and made sure we had everything we needed poolside and beyond. The food is pretty great at this hotel too! Thank you Patricia for our time at breakfast, even when we came in right at kitchen closing time!! We really appreciated being served last minute and with such excellent service. (I really recommend the acai bowl!!) One last shoutout to Jerry- who we asked to take our group picture!! I would like to preface this by saying that I typically don't say anything if I don't have anything nice to say. The quality of the food and drinks and the bartenders service are the only reason I am even giving two stars. A week before our stay, we get a call from a woman who has such a thick accent that my husband finally handed me the phone to try to understand what she was saying. She was asking if he wanted to do anything special for me for our anniversary. We declined. When we checked in, the gentleman at the front desk told us that he had a room ready for us. We were Ofcourse happy to be checking in. We had paid for a beach bungalow when booking which was described as a room that walks right out onto the beach. This was not what we got. Our view was of a service area with a tiki hut that was under repair. After about an hour, the people in the room next to us sounded like they were moving furniture and slamming doors. We called to ask the front desk to address that as well as the shower that was not working and the location of our room. They didn't seem to care about any of it. We had to call twice to get someone to come fix the shower 45 minutes later. They told us that they were 97% full so we couldn't move. That being said, if we are checking in before other parties, you aren't doing us a favor by giving us a crappy room early. What would have actually been a nice thing would've been asking what we preferred between checking in early to a subpar room or waiting until later for what we booked. On a positive note, the room was nicely decorated and the beds were comfortable! We were here to celebrate our anniversary and we made the best of it but it was certainly not because the Cheeca Lodge did anything to make it enjoyable. Cheeca Lodge is an absolutely beautiful resort with lots of amenities such as bikes, kayaks and wave runners. There are multiple pools and even an adult only pool near the spa. The resort sits along the ocean so the views are absolutely stunning. Upon check in you are greeted with a glass of rose champagne (very nice touch). However, once we arrived at our room the keys did not work and there was a tray of food left out in the walk way, that sat there for over 24 hours. We also came to find out out telephone were not working and only one TV remote for all 3 TVs. O and no coffee. Once we told the concierge all of these issues were rectified fairly quickly. The pool area is great but the service is slow so a frozen drink is probably not a great idea. All of the staff are very friendly and they offer a shuttle to local restaurants and additional transportation around the property via golf cart. Overall it was a memorable stay but for the price I would have hoped to not have any issues. One suggestion I would make to the hotel is to have coffee available in the hotel instead of charging $4. read more

We made reservations a month and 1/2 in advance and were told we would have a 1 bedroom with a balcony with a hot tub. While on the phone I asked to clarify that the hot tub was in the balcony and not in the room and the agent stated it was on the balcony. On 1/3/2024 We checked in at 4:00 PM and the room did not have a hot tub as promised, and the building had some issues. The manager Carrie made it right, took care of us and gave us an AMAZING upgrade. Valet moved us, then Carrie checked on us to make sure we were pleased with our accommodations. Amazing resort! Probably one of the best around by far. When you first come on property you're surrounded by gorgeous plants and flowers, you almost feel as if you were transported to an exotic island. The front desk was so helpful getting my family and i rooms last minute, as our original hotel upon arrival was disgusting and dirty. The rooms are clean and gorgeous! We stayed in the bungalows and each of our 3 rooms had a king bed, huge bedroom, and a large balcony. The pool staff and all bar staff were so cool and helpful and the drinks were awesome! The food was amazing at the pool bars and the sushi lounge definitely get the Caesar salad with shrimp, truffle fries and the key lime frozen drink. The free shuttle is an amazing feature! It takes you within two miles which is pretty much the distance to all the shops and restaurants. We got to check out some of the kayaking but there was so much seaweed getting out there it was super gross. Probably the only negative thing about the stay! Instead of kayaking we decided to do the boat trip to the sand bar. $85 a person and all your drinks (alcohol or n/a) are included with that for a 2 hour hangout at the sand bar. To me it was worth it because we probably would've spent that on drinks at the bar anyway! Ended up getting in contact with their customer experience person, Carol- who seemed as though she cared at first and again said she will look into it. Said she would follow up with me "once she can get to a computer" and thanked me for the feedback and training opportunity. It's been a week now and no follow up- computers must be hard to come by at this resort. Apparently the lack of follow up on guest's concerns is the norm here. Review the other reviews- the negative ones had same experience in regards to being thanked they helped their training and no resolution offered. I don't appreciate using my hard earned money, limited vacation time, and this poor experience to help fund/support your hospitality training program. read more

This place was so magical for our honeymoon 2 weeks ago! We stayed for 3 nights but I wish we stayed longer! Went down to key west rest of week which was fun but I love Cheeca so much! Wise helped us right away when we got there and were a little lost! Made me a delicious drink! Then he took us to Jerry who gave us a tour on a golf cart and was so kind to take many photos of us at request! Lol Just walking the property was my favorite!! It is so gorgeous all the trees, lagoons, waterfalls, and tiki torches!! Joe at the tiki bar took great care of us multiple days/nights! The food was excellent!! The sushi restaurant was very good also!! The view is amazing. I also loved just going out to the pier with my husband, dangling our feet off the side and looking up at the night sky. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE I booked 3 rooms for a family trip from Friday to Sunday to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We paid over $1200 per room per day IF YOU WANT A HIGH END RESORT IN THE FLORIDA KEY, PLEASE DON'T STAY AT THE CHEECA LODGE Beach is nice and clean Rooms in the old building are dated not as nice as the rooms in the new building IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET SERVICE AT ANY OF THE RESTAURANTS. My family and I walked into the one of the restaurants that is on the beach next to the main lobby. It was almost empty (2 tables were taken). We waited for 18 minutes, no one came to serve us, we raised our hands to the lady who was in charge of the sitting (Latoya) and she ignored us. Finally I walked to the desk and ask why she was ignoring us and very aggressively she told me that we were supposed to wait and register with her and not just sit....., there is NO signs to let guests to wait to be seated. She got into a verbal argument with us and instead of descalate the situation she called security on us.... We are guest that have spent thousands of dollars and we were called security. I am 60 years old my wife and my children were perplexed. I went to the main desk to ask for the hotel manager and after 10 minutes a lady in a T-shirt came accompanied by security and kept on escalating the situation. I asked for her to tell the security to guard to go away and she refused. I asked if we were going to be able to have dinner and her response was that she would have to see if there were tables available (the restaurant was empty and it was 6 pm ) I went back to the restaurant to get my family and she aggressively came to the table to keep arguing in front of my family. END OF THE STORY MY 2 SONS WERE SO DISGUSTED WITH THE TREATMENT WE RECEIVED THAT THEY LEFT THE HOTEL, WE RATHER LOSE THE $1200 FOR THE ROOM THAT TO TAKE THIS ABUSE WE BOOKED THE NIGHT AT THE BUNGALOWS Please take my advice, DON'T book at this hotel. I truly have no idea how this place has any bad reviews! We originally booked for 1 night to stay before heading on to key west but by the next morning we knew we had to extend our stay there! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the room was dreamy. Every single person that worked there was literally chick-Fil-a, over the top, kind of nice. It was so refreshing after an unpleasant experience at a different hotel in Miami. I cannot wait to come back, this will definitely be my go to spot to stay at. By popular recommendation (and I mean just my aunt ha!), we were told to have lunch at the restaurant. This place is AMAZING. I actually would love to stay here for a long weekend. And if you are from Florida, this is a perfect little retreat. We had the cheeca chicken sandwich and fries and the fish tacos (blackened) with a side salad. My boyfriend said the. Chicken sandwich was typical. The fries were crunchy and really good. We both loved the fish tacos. I also did a virgin mango drink and it was nice and refreshing... he thought "where is the mango?" To each their own! I enjoyed it. We overheard a guy asking for a dark beer in which they do not provide. The beach has a few tables that offer a fire in the middle which makes it romantic. We just left this lodge and wished we could have stayed longer. Beautiful view overlooking the ocean. Most non motorized water sports included. Jet skis, para sailing , snorkeling for purchase at an easily accessible location right on the Cheeca property. Staff was extremely helpful and sweet. Especially Joe at the pool who always kept our buckets filled with ice to keep our water cold, moved lounge chairs to help accommodate our party as well as umbrellas. He was at our side every 30 minutes to see if we needed anything. Another attractive service this hotel offers is transportation to and from different restaurants off the property!!Daniel who accompanied us on those drives was most helpful and even assisted our party booking a fishing charter. Spent our anniversary with our 10 week old baby girl at Cheeca Lodge and overall had a wonderful time. Service was impeccable! The staff was so nice from the valet, to the front desk and waitstaff all A plus. Our beach bungalow had the best view and we were steps from the ocean which was by far my favorite part- waking up to that view was priceless. There was complimentary water activities, we didn't get to do them because of the baby but we watch others and it was really nice- paddle boarding, water bikes etc we did though use the complimentary fishing rods and caught my first fish. Everyone made us feel very welcomed with the baby and there was no issues dining, enjoying the property etc. I look forward to coming back and exploring the new property and amenities read more

UPDATE CHEECA STEPPED UP! They were able to move us to much better room and this is why I like Cheeca... they will help and do their best to make you happy! Lovely room.... updated, clean, I always like the main building rooms the best.... so happy and cant wait to enjoy the rest of my stay! Thank you Cheeca for great customer service. It means everything to me! One star bc I have to. So unhappy with Cheeca. Over 10 hairs in one bed. And NOT little hairs.... long hairs easily spotted. I highly doubt the sheets were changed, only the pillow cases....no crease lines on the linens like the other bed. Hair in the tub.... Found an old toilet handle on the floor... guess we have an extra one in case ours breaks.... went out on the balcony while we waited for clean sheets... didn't stay long...the "lagoon" could be a pretty view (if it was clean) but the SMELL it gives off is rotten (maybe they should clean it).... having been staying at the Cheeca for 9 years now, I can say that my relationship with this place has ended. I just hope I can find another place to stay bc another 3 nights here will prob send me home needing either antibiotics or valium. No doubt, Cheeca Lodge is a great hotel, with all the amenities one can think of and great entertainment for kids. But I have been going to the keys for over 25 years and it is absolutely disgusting to see how Cheeca Lodges jet ski rental service single-handedly has completely destroyed the serenity and peacefulness the keys once had to offer, and not to mention the once epic fishing the famous flats out front had to offer - GONE. Jets skis running over the flats all day long completely killed the fishing. I know that a lot of locals are absolutely furious at Cheecas jet skis and I surely hope that a good person in management realizes how profoundly senseless these machines are and put an end to the madness. I'm all for changing things up and modernizing things, but these jet skis are just so primitive and destructive. read more

Myself, my boyfriend and two other couples booked rooms here 5/10-5/13. We are all local industry workers from Key West. We were looking for a getaway to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and from the moment we walked in to the beautiful lobby this place did not disappoint. Driving on to the property you feel like you're in a tropical jungle. The young lady at the gate was friendly and very welcoming. We walked in to the lobby and were pleasantly greeted by another young lady at the front desk. Wish I had gotten their names. The rooms were very clean and did not disappoint. Housekeeping was some of the nicest I've ever encountered. Ocurane (?) was pleasant and patient with us, always willing to clean around our time schedule. Jason, Jean, and Juan were our bartenders for the week and I can't thank them enough for their great service. We rented a cabana for the day through Cameron and Marcia and they were very helpful setting it all up for us. A storm rolled through on Tuesday morning and set the fire alarms off around 6am due to a drop in pressure. If it weren't for the alarms we would have slept our day away. We headed to the lobby bar and we're pleasantly greeted by Shania with complimentary coffee. To sum things up, every employee we came in to contact with seemed genuinely happy to accommodate us with anything we might need. Absolutely horrendous service. We were sat down to dinner at 915 saying that there was not enough menus to go around. After waiting 20-30 minutes for a menu, we were finally asked what drinks we wanted. After ordering waters and a beer, it took at least 20 more minutes to come out. The manager came by for a check up and said we were waiting on drinks. She apparently went and told the bartender to make the drinks but we continued to wait an additional 20 minutes for a beer and a couple shots. Was by far the worst service we received on the whole island, sad to say, since we were staying in the rooms above the restaurant. Will not be dinning with them again and will continue to advise future guests to stay far away from this location. read more

A great view, comes with a premium. The crew is extremely friendly, making sure you enjoy any single part of your visit. We were lucky to get a waterfront table yet with air and shade. The menu does not deserve any comment as the hotel reopened a week ago and the Covid restrictions limit what the restaurant can offer. We picked the fish tacos and the catch of the day sandwich. Delicious on both counts. The French fries are forgettable to say the least, or gained to be replaced by the house salad. We got an acceptable espresso at the bar; I would have enjoyed it a little more if it was charged at a decent price. Beautiful property but service is severely lacking. Check in process was cumbersome to say the least. Not very smooth or helpful explaining property or amenities offered. When we finally found our room, it was on the third floor and the elevator was out of order. Ok, not a big deal; we made our way up the steps. The room was nice but really really loud. It had an AC register that sounded like a jumbo jet airplane stuck in take off mode. This sound never stopped!!!!!; it was blowing like that the ENTIRE time!!!!! Activities center staff was very rude and not helpful to my kids when they attempted to use the space and play volleyball. Pool bar staff was unhelpful as well as we tried to get an order in. Bartender in lobby bar was super rude the morning I tried to get coffee. To the point that I just got up and left and walked to an offsite location to get breakfast. The offsite restaurant was super pleasant and courteous. To summarize, Yes, stay here but do not expect any kind of service. Rounding up our overall experience to a 5 star. We stayed in one of the resort views suites so we had a kitchenette which we enjoyed having. Nice to get some inexpensive breakfast/snacks and to make your own drinks in your room. Our room was really comfortable - super comfortable bed, clean, and we sat on the balcony a lot. The few downsides to the room: (1) cabinetry looks nice but cheap - almost all of the doors were on barely working hinges; (2) the air conditioner was loud...but once you were asleep it wasn't a problem; and (3) when your next door neighbor is there, you could hear everything they said/did. Wasn't a problem for us as we kept the same hours...but could see if you like to sleep in and your neighbor doesn't, it could be problematic. They could do some easy things like add some felts to the bottom of kitchen chairs so they didn't make so much noise when you are pulling them out to sit down. We had extremely windy days which impacted our ability to take advantage of some of the resort amenities - it was just too rough and choppy for kayaks, paddle board, jet skis. We did really enjoy the pools and found the service to be very attentive. The grounds are just gorgeous, and are what pushed this up to a 5 star rating for me. It really creates a nice ambiance and at night, walking through the property when the tiki torches are lit was beautiful. They have invested a ton in landscaping and it shows, and I loved it. It sets the Cheeca apart from others and gives an exclusive resort feel. We didn't eat at all the restaurants and left reviews for the restaurant we did eat at. The Tiki has great and tasty lunch options; drinks were expensive (expected) but weak and in some cases just not good (not expected). Our best drinks were the ones we made ourselves in our room. Overall, the test for me is "would I come back" and the answer is yes, happily. It is a special place. read more

Absolutely horrible service our shower has been broken multiple times they had "fixed" it and then it was still broken we left the room for multiple hours and we came back and the shower was left taken apart and leaking into the wall they came back and "fixed" it once more and the shower would not turn on the next day they sealed it with chemicals that made our room reek of gasoline the workers are beyond ignorant and beyond subpar the shower was still cold after all the "fixing" the service is unacceptable and should never be in a resort of this class especially with the added $50 a day resort fee that they charge separately. I strongly advise you do not stay here take your money elsewhere. read more

We checked in super late, but they were so friendly and upgraded us for our special stay! I accidentally booked a queen and without hesitation, they were able to move us to a king! We stayed at his location for the first time back in October of last year. We came for a quick baby-moon and stayed at a waterfront suite and fell in love. The only reason I wouldn't have rated it the 5 stars, is because I didn't care for the food, including room service. Now that we had the baby, my husband decided to surprise me with a surprise mini getaway for my bday. He wasn't able to find any water view rooms so I decided to call to see if I had any luck. Unfortunately, all was booked so we stayed in a resort view room. My husband had requested a crib when he made the original reservation, almost a week before the trip. I called and spoke to some one (when I tried to do the upgrade) and yet when we got there , we were told that they don't have cribs. I think it would've been nice to be told ahead of time so we could plan accordingly, but ok... no problem. We ended up pushing the beds together (they only had rooms with queen beds), in order to have enough space for the three of us. When doing so we saw how disgusting the carpet was- trash and debris from what looked like months ( so excited to sleep here now), but still ... ok... I woke up around 3 am to use the restroom and almost had a full blown heart attack when I was greeted with the largest roach I've seen in years making his way from the tub to the sink. I had to wake up my husband to kill it. I wake up the next morning and ordered room service, by memory because the breakfast page was missing from the menu, and asked the person to 1- bring the page for me to order the next morning and 2- make sure to bring sugar because there wasn't any in the room. About an hour later, we received our breakfast, no breakfast page, missing our orange juice and guess what? No sugar! I called to ask for it, and 30 min later received it ( I was almost done with breakfast by then). Funny thing is, once we go the the sugar we realized they hadn't supplied us with anything to stir the coffee, so we had to use our knives. For over $60 room service breakfast, I expect a lot more than this. To top it off, I wanted to shower before hitting the spa and it was full of disgusting mold. Great. I showered at the spa and I must say that it was wonderful. The spa itself probably 4 stars, but the massage was at a 5! Amazing! Must do! After our day activities we decided to stay in and watch a movie. The channels available were just pitiful so we decided to call it a Netflix night-except we ended up just going to sleep, because the wifi speed was pathetic. Anyways, we had a great time on our getaway, but we're very disappointed with the resort. Even though, we didn't end up being able to stay at a water front suite, for over $300 a night, we expected way better. The location is amazing, but the staff and management just don't seem to have their heart in it. Very sad. And Ps- not one person even bothered to say happy birthday to me. read more
