    Grilled Octopus
    Amy S.

It's been years since I have been to The Spot. During this visit, I visited couple stalls including this one, Cheers Cut. It was easy to order and took about 10 minutes to prepare. I finally decided on the Grilled Octopus. It was perfectly cooked and the flavor was spot on. Definitely will be back to try other items.

Everything came out piping hot. The chicken was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It was massive and therefore awkward to eat. Possibly because I don't really know how to use the sleeve properly. The curry rice was a little bit spicy and was a solid veggie Japanese style curry. I only wish there was a little more curry for such a large serving of rice.

Honestly the only highlight was the chicken and the curry rice. The chicken was flavorful and juicy and crispy all in one, as for the curry rice it had amazing curry flavor with veggies. We also ordered some fries which were pretty good nice and crunchy yet soft in the middle with a nice touch of seasoning salt on them. As for the skewers the shrimp skewer had its skin on the entire body and was difficult to remove it was chewy and unflattering then the broccoli skewer was so disappointing I think it was like 2 bucks and some change for four little broccoli heads on a stick that was overly seasoned I would've rather have the option of getting a side of broccoli rather than a child's handful on a stick. The winner here is the chicken and curry other than that not at all really a come back situation here

The flavor of the chicken nuggets was pretty good, although it definitely leaned on the salty side so I had to drink a lot of water alongside them. Maybe it would be better with rice? I did get it as takeout though so they were not crispy at all (even though I ate them relatively soon after picking them up). Also, some of the chicken pieces had a strange, super dense texture - I wouldn't really call it rubbery but it definitely had an unnatural quality.

This might as well be a large portion of white rice with a tiny portion of minced pork

Wow if I could give them zero star I would. Was recommended their minced pork rice, and ordered a large portion. When it arrived I realized the minced pork was but only a spoonful in the large bowl. They should have just called it "minced pork flavored rice" instead. For what it's worth the minced pork rice was very good, but 5 bucks for a bowl of white rice and minced pork flavoring is a terrible value all around.

I came to the Spot Food Hall in the afternoon one day. It wasn't too crowded and it was during "Happy Hour" 2-5pm so everything was like 20% off. I ordered a combo which was like $11ish, but then with 20%. It comes with a drink or miso soup. Food: Ninja popcorn chicken combo w/ miso soup - Honestly, the amount of food in this combo was pretty sad. I can get a combo at vivi's for like the same price and it comes with double the chicken and braised pork. The amount of braised pork was just sad and the chicken was just okay. Nothing special. Overall, it was pretty overpriced and not worth the quality of food. Service was okay, but seems pretty slow and disorganized. Wouldn't come back here and pay full price. It wouldn't be worth it at all.

They give good amount of squid. I thought the squid would be more crunchy but favor was good. Especially Taiwanese teriyaki sauce, it was amazing. Beef tender was good favor, quite spicier than I thought. Lamp was ok little lack of favor. Overall it was decent food.

I'm actually a big fan of the fried squid here. The breading-to-squid ratio is on point; the breading stays crunchy, and the squid remains tender & not rubbery, which is a HUGE plus. The salt & pepper taste is there, but pretty subtle. I think it's good enough to eat by itself without any of the sauces. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of anything else on their menu. The sautéed squid is definitely not as good as the fried version. The sauce they use to cook it with is a bit too sweet for my palate, and to me, it was odd tasting basil combined with that sweetness. I've ordered the fried chicken here once, but it didn't really stand out to me. I'd just stick to the fried squid lol. While you're at it, try the chili sauce with your meal. It has the right amount of heat and flavor.

Would give it zero stars if I could. The "extra large" ninja chicken is criminally small. Ours came soggy, overly seasoned in some places and tasteless in others, and about half the size it used to be. I get that covid has caused increases in produce and meat, but this is unacceptable.

Ninja Crispy Chicken w/ White Rice and Curry

Solid place for a quick bite in The Spot. I got the ninja crispy chicken with white rice topped with curry sauce and a side of chilli sauce for the chicken. I could've used a heavier dose of curry over the rice and more chicken, but it was still very tasty.

The appetizers rock, and I would go back just for the appetizers. The noodles are not plated out like the menu, just a bowl of noodle with stuff in it. I chose the classic. I would say it's nice healthy kind of food but it didn't hit the spot. I will return to try the other soup base I think will work out better.

One of my favorites is the hakka shredded pork and squid, the perfect marriage of meat and seafood it's such a classic dish, the other is their version of street food chengdu spicy chicken, the sauce lightly coating the crispy chicken it was done with precision. The pumpkin chicken soup has great umami and a bit of sweetness I couldnt stop drinking it. The purple rice is also nourishingly delicious and made it less guilty to consume carbs. We ordered an Egg and Cruller Wrap, Scallion Pancake, Pork & Rice Shumai, Chicken XLB, Pan Fried Pork Buns, and Cucumbers. Order was ready on time but know that since its was a Sunday so it took around 45 minutes due to how busy it was. We really liked the Pork & Rice Shumai and the Pan Fried Pork buns were our favorites. Both filled really well. The Chicken XLB (like most carryout dumplings) kind of exploded mostly so we didn't get the best experience there but the flavor was good. The egg cruller wrap was solid but doesn't travel well. The scallion pancake was a little thicker/breadier than I'm used to. Cucumbers were solid. A solid spot for sharing with a group, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu. I really wanted to love this place. The soup dumplings are among the better ones in the area. While the wrappers aren't as thin or chewy as the very best, you can tell they're handmade, and I'll always appreciate that. I'd recommend sticking with the pork soup dumplings since they were rich, savory, and full of umami. The crab version unfortunately didn't have any noticeable crab flavor and tasted almost identical to the pork. The duck came in a generous portion and is a great choice for anyone who enjoys sweeter flavors. The watercress was fresh and plentiful, but it could have used much more garlic. We ended up adding the wonton chili oil and dipping it for extra flavor. The cucumber was delicious, but the portion was way too small. The bean curd was cooked well, though there wasn't enough pork for a dish that was supposed to feature it. The fish was another highlight with light spice, a crispy exterior, and perfectly cooked, tender meat. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. I enjoy the home-style cooking, and it's the kind of restaurant that's especially fun to visit with a larger group so you can sample a variety of dishes.
