Woefully pathetic, subpar, corporate-style frozen food. Do not be fooled by the pictures. This place does NOT serve good food. The wife and I came here on a Thursday evening with another couple once. We will not come back! While it is a tidy,neat, spacious venue, it was an awful, very disappointing eating experience. First, we came on a game night and it was on the video so very loud that we had to scream at each other to simply converse. Much below mediocre food: for example, the Shaken Beef with Garlic noodles. A tasty sauce over rice noodles, but made with pieces of beef that were as tough as shoe leather --$22.00 ! The little wife had a bit better luck ordering their "classic" burger. "Okay" she said of that $18.00 burger. We also ordered the "tempura" green beans" and we each gagged at the obviously frozen, mass manufactured, overly salty, oily batter that covered them. A $10.00 waste of money. I have been a foodie for several decades and it is clear to me that this place is just a bar selling food on the side hoping that, when drunk, the patrons will not notice or care about the very low quality food. This one man came in and let me tell you, he brought a party with him and partied the entire time. He as about in his 50s and he danced by himself, he danced with the young and the older. He was a whole entire VIBE. We purchased a table for 4 and paid $100 in advance. We were happily surprised to see that when we arrived we received a complimentary champagne and juice for mimosas! Ok so that's the good stuff. Here is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. We paid in advance for a table howevor, they let the people in first who did not have a ticket or a table, so we and others with tables had to wait until they paid and went in first. That defeats the purpose, in my opinion, of paying in advance. I hope they consider to allow advance payees in first. I mean coupled with the champagne, that would make it a complete VIP experience. The service. They had one young lady on the floor and she was stretched thin. She came to our table and took the order of our 2 friends and walked away. She did not take my and my daughters order. I was like what the heck. She walked to the next 2 tables, who had already had their food and took their drink orders. When I got her attention she was like "I know" and then walked to a third table before coming back to our table. I was flabbergasted to say the least. If they did not automatically put a 20% service fee on the bill, please beleive she would have received a lesser tip for that. I dont know if they were short staffed or what, but that was crazy. Please know your credit card will be required to open a tab. They put a 20% service fee on the bill. There is a $200 minimum spend for each table. Leading with that i will add, the minimum spend would not be a problem except, if you don't drink you are stuck with ordering multiple plates of food. I ended up ordering the fried chicken (3 large wings) and a French toast plate. I dont drink beyond mimosa and they do not offer any non alcoholic options aside from juice...at least from what I saw on the menu. The food... Omg, the fried chicken was lukewarm and had no seasoning on it. We doused it in hot sauce, that is how bland it was. The French toast, while pretty, was cold so I did not eat it. The eggs and potatoes were hot and sufficient. No one at our table finished the chicken. The catfish was good and perfectly seasoned. I wish they had seasoned the chicken the way they seasoned the fish. The table next to us did not finish their fish and grits. The lady told me the grits were subpar. Another lady did not eat her breakfast burrito. One person at our table spoke to someone about the bad service we received and they adjusted our bill so we were not required to meet the $200 table minimum. So that was a good save. Overall I would give 5 stars for the vibe. Music. Complimentary champagne. 1 star for the food. I hope they consider revamping their menu and marinating the chicken overnight in some good spices and frying it to order, even if folks have to wait a bit longer. Lukewarm unseasoned chicken for $15 was disappointing. Would i come again, absolutely. I would eat beforehand and not get a table so I dont have to spend $200. I would drink mimosas and party. First time experiencing the R&B brunch at The Midway and it won't be my last. We had a great time. Every song the DJ played was good and we sang our hearts out! I like the whole setup - the bar is the focus in the center, with plenty of seating all around and outside. There's enough room for people to dance and a cute photo op. I dig the set up here: bar in the middle, seating around the sides. There is even seating on the patio outside! Apparently this used to be a liquor store - there is a large refrigerated area in the back. Came here for lunch and had the drunken noodles. Wow, talk about spicy! While it was very tasty, I had to sip water in-between bites. Tried this spot again for happy hour. Now this is where it's at! They have "train shots" for $3. Yes folks, the train tracks are practically right outside the door. I wanted to buy shots for my staff and thankfully the bar tender just let me get the train shots sans train. My friend and I went yesterday to watch the 49ers game. As my favorite place to watch games closed down (RIP Public House) I searched for a new Spirts Bar, midway did not disappoint. They have a ton of tv's visa le from any of the seating areas. They are right next to the train tracks and do train shot specials anytime a train passes by lol. We had to do it. The bartender Nick was a one man show, and took care of the whole restaurant not just the bar. It was remarkably empty for a sports bar on a Sunday. They have a daily happy hour from 3-7pm daily which is awesome. I wish they had cider on draft as I don't really drink beer but the can of Imperial Cider hit the spot. My friend ordered a Bloody Mary and it was tasty. We wanted to try a little bit of everything as it was our first time here. The chicken wings were flavorful but very over cooked, I had asked for them extra crispy but they should still be juicy. The chicken lumpia were delicious I could have eaten 2 more orders by myself. The garlic Noodles were really good though a bit sweet for my taste, I would recommend cutting the sugar down a bit. Nick was very hospital me and a hard worker. We'll definitely rely be back but I would recommend opening at 10am on Sundays during football season, I'm sure more people would come if they could watch the morning games there. read more

The place has been practically empty and two female employees just stayed behind the bar chatting it up while we sat for quite some time with no menu, water or nothing. I can't believe it took us this long to discover this place. We stopped by to do take out and the food is good! We got the bulgogi fries, fried rice with chicken, and chicken lumpia. Everything was good. The lumpia is pretty standard. The bulgogi fries had nice flavors to it. The sweetness from the bulgogi was balanced by the more tangy and slightly spicy sauce. The bulgogi was more cubed rather than thinly sliced. I only prefer more thinly sliced so that it could be spread out more with the fries. Otherwise all good. The fried rice was also yummy. Had a good soy sauce and slightly sweet flavor that reminds me of home cooked fried rice. Comforting. It had a lot of black pepper, which I really like because I love black pepper. Just something to consider since some people may not like that much black pepper. We didn't eat there, but the bartender who took my order was really nice. It had a quiet bar ambience. Looking for a place to meet up with friends for lunch in West Sac and we ended up at The Midway. It was a Wednesday lunch so the place was very quiet when we came in, only a few others eating. It definitely has a bar/pub kind of feel to it, I could see where people like it for the happy hour type meet up spot. We got 3 of the lunch specials between us- pho, wings, and fried rice. All of the dishes were so-so. The wings were a bit over fried and dry. My favorite of the 3 was the fried rice but that dish is also the easiest to put together and least likely to mess up. I visited for happy hour. The tropical margarita was delicious. I would like to try the watermelon margarita during my next visit. The Brussel sprouts are always delicious. This is my go to order during every visit. I also enjoyed the lumpia; however, it was rolled extremely thin that it was not worth the $9 happy hour pricing. I was disappointed with the pho. Instead of rare steak, it was some type of shredded beef. The beef lacked flavor, although it was really tender. The broth had okay flavor. Definitely not the best. I came in on a Tuesday for Happy Hour with Judi M. Not too busy at all, and we sat at a booth near the wall with the "Hello Gorgeous" neon signage. Street parking in front, though I parked just over the tracks near the condos since the 1-hour parking enforcement was only until 5:00 PM. QR code to scan for viewing the menu on ToastTab, but also a laminated one provided as well. Forgot to take a photo (it was so pretty too!), but the bartender made me a ($6) mocktail mule in the copper mug, lime slice, fresh mint garnish and all, which was tasty! I'm totally a fan of ginger beer. From the Happy Hour menu (3:00 PM-7:00 PM), we tried the Tempura Green Beans ($7), Mac and Cheese Bites ($9), Balsamic Brussel Sprouts ($7), and Chicken Satay ($9). The only HH food item we didn't get was the Chicken Lumpia ($90, as we're a little biased toward the pork/shrimp kind. If you're interested in Happy Hour Cocktails, they have a tropical margarita ($8), espresso martini ($8), white linen mule ($8), cherry limeade ($8), cucumber gimlet ($8), Red Bull watermelon ($8), or a lychee mai tai ($8). Also, off of their regular menu, we also got the soy garlic wings ($14) and the garlic noodles ($7). To be honest we were more in a munchie mood rather than for full-sized entrees. If you ask my friends or family, they will tell you that I'm a music aficionado, especially when it comes to 90's to early 2000's R&B and hip-hop. So much so that my dear wife has a love/hate relationship with my love for music. She loves the excitement that I get when a nostalgic song plays, but hates (I use this word lightly) when I wake up early in the morning belting out random songs (I generally always have a song in my heart) as I prepare to go to the gym. Nonetheless, I was elated when I saw that a group called More Nites Like This in partnership with The Midway West Sacramento were hosting a Jukebox R&B Brunch! After coordinating with a friend to reserve a group table, I couldn't wait for the day to arrive! Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hosts of the event and a security guard who did a quick screening to ensure that no one had weapons (no complaints from my end). Since our group was much larger than the capacity of the table, some of our party chose to sit in the patio area (which worked out perfectly due to it being a warm fall morning). As we got situated and started ordering drinks from the attentive bartenders (they did a really good job of scanning the crowd to ensure that everyone had an opportunity to place an order), nostalgic tunes started playing within and outside (patio) the restaurant. One of our friends ordered the catfish meal, which looked delicious. If I wasn't so caught up in drinking and dancing (I'm pretty sure that I burned an abundance of calories on the dance floor), I would have ordered some food from the menu. I cannot speak to The Midway Restaurant experience outside of this event; however, they have pretty decent reviews. A friend of mine is currently coordinating with our group to make a return visit early next year to attend the R&B Brunch, I cannot wait. Some of my favorites are the Brussels, fried green beans and the Midway Banh Mi...but truly my favorite, is the Pho-Which-Dip...OMG they are not kidding when they call it a House Favorite! Ah-Mazing! Checkout the menu for its description, just make sure to have a napkin to wipe your drool. ;0P Their drinks are spot on. I have enjoyed them, even as simple as a mimosa. I do love that they have a great selection of tequila for those days I'm feeling like sipping on something tasty instead of a mixed drink or a beer. I enjoy all the TVs, I can sit just about anywhere and enjoy a game, whether solo or with company. They seem to have a variety of sports on. And the service is also great! They may get busy, so you may need to wait a little while, but their service, the TVs, the company, and amazing food, makes the wait worth it when they're slammed. Why they encourage you to buy tickets for the jukebox brunch, I'm unsure because that was a waste of money. They don't offer to bring the champagne flight( or whatever it's called) to your table. They want you to carry the bucket with the bottle, ice and juice with no caps in it yourself. Never experienced that before. They were out of chicken before 12 on a Saturday and didn't plan on having any more for the rest of the afternoon per the bartender. The brunch food selection is weak, the vibes were whatever, Live DJ was decent and the service was also not that great. We moved to West Sacramento a few years ago and soon after arriving, we heard that the Midway was reopening. I stopped in one day expecting a nice little neighborhood bar, but I was pleasantly surprised at the nice decor, the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the bar area. As time went on I tried a few of the items on their menu, and over the past few years, both the variety and the quality of the food offerings have continued to improve. So much so that I would no longer suggest that this is a bar with food, so much as a great restaurant inside a fantastic little bar. The staff continues to be qualified, friendly and attentive and the venue is constantly supporting the community with different events and special happenings. This is a wonderful spot and is surely a regular haunt. read more

Nick, the bartender was super friendly, attentive and welcoming. :) We ordered Pho-which-dip, Mom's pho, and Bulgogi fries. Pho-which-dip: portion is quite big. On my first visit, the sandwich breads were quite crispy. It was perfect as it got softened when dipped in the pho broth. Second visit, bread was more soft and ended up falling apart halfway through the meal. Fingers crossed that the kitchen will be more consistent on the order. Regardless, the beef was quite tender and everything tasted great! Mom's pho -- pho broth was flavorful and made me feel like home. I wish that they were more generous with the meat and meatball (quarter of a meatball). Bulgogi fries -- if you're a fries lover then a MUST! I thought it was perfect and fresh.
