So hopefully I can redo this review in the near future because my first experience was...well let me explain. First off, I didn't even buy anything from there. So I probably should do that. The reason I'm writing is because as soon as I got in the store, it smelt like mildew. Just straight up mildew face slap. I'm not sure if it was a type of over powering cheese but it was off putting. When I came here for the first time, I don't know why, but I was a bit intimidated... I was expecting cheese collection like at Whole Food, but I actually did not recognize a lot of the cheese... I walked outside and my husband asked me why I didn't get anything. I told him, I didn't see anything I want... He encouraged me to try something anyways... We're already here... So, I went back inside... I talked to one of the guy behind the counter and told him that I had a tasty gouda from SF called the noorlander, and if he had something similar... He thought a a quick two seconds, and smiled... Then, he proceeded to take a small sample slice from a cheese called Roomano... It was mighty tasty...!!! So, I asked him to cut me a small wedge of that, and I got a little less intimidated... I asked him for a taste of the honeybee gouda... It was tasty too!! So, I left the store with two wedges of cheese and a smile... =) Moral of the story... Always ask questions... =) Oh, husband got a few bottles of craftbeers too... I cannot speak highly enough of the Cheese Cave. One of my favorite places in the world to stock up on fine cheese, charcuterie, beer, and lately, sandwiches for a reason. Marnie, Lyddie & Co. are always super helpful and eager to show you something new. I've never walked in there with a request or inquiry that wasn't taken care of handily. Looking for a cheese spread for a party? done. Need something to accent a grilled cheese? done. Looking for honeycomb? done! In addition to that, the prices are far more reasonable than one would think, given the neighborhood. I will continue to support the store as often as I can, and I suggest you do, too. The world needs more places like the Cheese Cave, so get over there and expand your palate. Also, check out the fresh Ricotta, which I've never liked but am sold on now. read more

I was a fan of them at first. I used to go in alot when they first opened with my friend. I had been craving a sandwich so i decided to go in. No one greeted me, they looked at me as if i wasnt supposed to be in their shop. Finally someone asked what i needed and i asked for a sandwich. Extremely small boutique cheese, wine, beer, charcuterie, olive oil, vinegar store with friendly staff and everything you need to host a top-notch beer or wine tasting. Great place to drop by if you are heading to a tasting too to bring palate cleansers and snacks. Beer selection is super small, but it did include Almanac special releases and Crooked Stave. Wow, let me preface this review by saying that I have never set foot in a cheese store before. If all of them are anything like Cheese Cave in Claremont, I'm in for a new recurring expense. I recently visited Cheese Cave, located in beautiful downtown Claremont on a Saturday afternoon. I was looking for a good goat cheese to put in my salad, but I ended up leaving with three different varieties. The staff is very friendly and very knowledgeable. You know those douchebags that make you hate them when they speak about their particular level of expertise because they are such smug assholes? These aren't them! They explain everything about the different cheese varieties in a very knowledgeable and amiable way that doesn't make you hate them. That is a great skill to have. The staff had recommendations for everything I asked, and I wish I could have bought everything I sampled. Also, I wish I could come here everyday to sample their entire stock. They also carry a variety of accoutrement, crackers, wine and beer. If you like, they take your information down so that the next time you visit, the list of cheeses you bought would be in their database. This will prove very useful because I left the store that day with the knowledge that I would be back often. read more

Love this shop!! My husband and I went here on our first date so it is a special place to us. Aside from the sentimental aspect, the knowledge all of the staff has is amazing. Tell them what you're looking for and they will help you and then introduce you to cheese you never even thought of or even knew existed. We were one of the lucky ones who were able to snag a spot at their first cheese class and I tell you it was worth every penny! Had amazing cheese and wine and learned the back stories of the cheeses we were tasting. We live in Rialto and it is worth the drive. I don't know why it took me so long to actually walk into this shop. A great selection of cheese, very helpful staff to help you with pairings. I often rely on their suggestions, and they have never let me down. They also have a nice selection of condiments, chocolate, and craft beer. Their beer selection isn't large, but almost every beer they stock is worth buying. It may have been a slow first step through the front door, but it is becoming a weekly habit. read more

To say I am a fan of cheese is an understatement so I love this place. The first time I went the employees seemed to be annoyed that I asked to taste certain cheeses. I think maybe they thought I was just going for a free taste. We ended up buying over $120 of cheese and supplies. The next time the girl helping me was much more willing to let me try and again, we ended up with quite a few cheeses. Delicious selections with knowledgeable staff and something for everyone. This is a great little shop, with great helpers. The ladies are more than willing to scrape and shave off samples to ensure you get EXACTLY what you are looking for. I tasted about 15 cheeses before deciding (with great difficulty) on the four that I wanted for my plate. Everything tasted was so YUMMY! Will be returning again, and again, and again! read more

Let me be very frank and honest here. If you think you like cheese and you don't absolutely LOVE the Cheese Cave, you are an idiot. This is the most delightful way to experience cheese. So many varieties to select from and you can get a little sample and learn a lot about cheese if you take the time. They are so great at explaining things and never in a snooty or judgmental sort of tone. On one or two RARE occasions, I have encountered perhaps a new employee or a less educated one or maybe it is super busy at the time I'm in and things are not quite as magical and cheese heavenly, but I forgive them for those minor lapses. Overall they know and love cheese and that comes through in their customer service. This is cheese like you will not get anywhere else around here!! Was driving in Claremont, checking out the neighborhood when my wife and I came across the Cheese Cave. We definitely love cheese and found ourselves checking out this place. The folks there were very helpful, and not snobby, and very willing to assist and educate. A wide selection of crackers and other things to pair with cheese. They want you to sample and enjoy what you're going to be purchasing. If I didn't live so far away, I'd be there every couple of days. Love cheese, got to check them out. read more

Our party was supposed to be over at 6:30pm and people literally stayed until we ran out of food over an hour later. 6 people packed around the cheese board assaulting the tray like it stole their money. This place is absolutely amazing ... I really enjoy cheese and the people here really know their cheese! They offer samples and their variety is immense. Went here to get a gift for my guy for Valentine's Day. Never been there before. I was perusing when a tall gentleman with glasses asked me if I needed help. I told him I was on a budget but He still helped me pick out two Belgian style beers and a French Comte cheese pairing. The cheese cave is a really awesome local spot with cool vibes. They sell a ton of cool kitchen items as well as gourmet speciality items. Awesome wines and beers! My only complaint, I wish we could consume them there! Really wanted some wine with my cheese! They have a large selection of meats and cheeses and they sell some other food items as well. My husband and I shared a snack pack with meat, it was pretty cool. It's was $12 and has some meats, cheese, crackers, fruit and corn nuts. Looking through their Yelp pictures it looks like our snack pack was made on the smaller size unfortunately! Nonetheless, I'll give this place another try! read more
