The oils, vinegars, olives, Nd oh so delicious Wine selections just take your breath away. The folks here are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Just walk through thier door for a one of a kind experience that will keep you coming back for more more more! We made meatball sandwiches when we got home. Freshly grated Parm-Romano, Huge Homemade Meatballs and a Marinara to salivate for, on thier freshly baked sandwich rolls. We were in Italian Heaven! I was really looking forward to trying this Italian Deli for some highly recommended sandwiches. They have just about any kind of Italian food item you can think of and the sandwich meats are fresh-sliced. Those my only positive comments from my first visit. I came on a Saturday so they might have been busier than normal. I had to wait quite a while for my number to be called and then I had to wait even longer because the server had to correct a mistake on the previous order. There was no place to sit and my knees were hurting from the wait. Once helped, the young man who wrote down my order walked toward the food prep area and almost immediately yelled that he was taking a break. The young man who prepared my three sandwiches seemed inexperienced and unsure how the sandwiches were made. I remained hopeful. I took the sandwiches to the cashier in another area of the store. She was young but cordial and asked if I wanted the sandwiches in a bag and I said, "yes please", only later to realize I was charged for the bag. As many other reviews mention, this business has amazing potential but the customer service is sorely lacking. There are obvious deficiencies in training and supervision. Now, about the sandwiches. The bread is tasty but VERY hard (almost stale). This is much different than all other sandwich places and I was not expecting it. I was very disappointed that one of the sandwiches was completely wrong and not the way I ordered it. I will say the sandwiches were a good value but the poor customer service and incorrect order will prevent me from returning. I hope your experience is better than mine! read more

Cool Italian market with good subs! It's the kind of place you want to come back to and try a little bit of all of the options. The market had brands from Italy that I had never seen before. I tried the Torres chips (to eat with my sub) and they were some of the best potato chips I've ever had! I don't try a dessert today, but I'll be back for those another time. I'd also like to buy some of the frozen lasagnas to eat for dinner on a night in too busy to cook. Small regional grocery/specialty store chain that originated in the San Gabriel Valley. I've only been to the Upland location, so just describe my experience here. But I suspect that the other locations are similar. The space itself is not super large, but they have a great variety of imported Italian goods. I think the main draw is their deli counter which they have a menu of different Italian sandwiches. The service from the deli counter and the checkout counter was great. They have the usual take a number system and the people that are very friendly and helpful. I ended up ordering a Great Grandpa Joe, which is their traditional sandwich staple. Lots of delicious Italian meat, some cheese, and a little bit of sliced pepperoncini and oil dressing. Delicious. I really only came in for the sandwich, but I couldn't help myself and ended up buying some sauces, some pastas, and a few other treats and items I can use later in the week. I have nothing, much, to say negatively about Claro's. We've been going there for many years. I think upwards of 30 years. So I can't be too negative. However, I picked up a couple sandwiches today and both my wife and I thought they are shrinking. Not in size but in the amount inside the bread? Also the bread has no flavor, just a big sponge. So mostly bread and light on the ingredients. I won't have them make us one again. But I would buy their meats and get better bread at a bakery and make our own. Mama mia! What an amazing deli! I hadn't been to Claro's in years. This place is so cute, has amazing products and I always enjoy when I come in here to shop. Staff is also friendly and helpful. While in the area, I decided to give their deli sandwiches a try. I had been eyeing them for a while and finally decided to go for it. I decided to go with the Great Grandpa Joe, size small. It comes with capocollo, mortadella, dry salame, provolone cheese, lettuce tomato, sliced pepperoncini and oil dressing. The small is a pretty good size, and it is NOT small on flavor. This may be one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life! The bread was soft, but held together well and didn't fall apart. Everything was so fresh and the pepperoncinis took the sandwich over the top! They sell their sandwich oil and that may need to be a purchase I make soon. Talk about variety! Claro's Italian market is located in upland off of mountain tucked away behind Legends and adjacent to Panzarellos. I was looking for some nice flour to start a sourdough and this place had the 00 flour that someone in the store ( not a worker) suggested. I just started my starter today so I will see how it fares. This place has authentic Italian sandwiches and cookies, wine, olive oil etc. I bought an organic bottle! I'll be back for sure , I'd like to try their sandwiches and also check out their wine selections more thoroughly. read more

The first time I went here, my sandwich order got mixed up, so I wasn't very happy...BUT when they got my order right on the 2nd visit, I couldn't have been happier. The Aunt Mary roast beef with horseradish is SO good. It does take awhile because all the meats are cut to order but the wait is worth it. Rude staff and poor business practices. I was super excited to be a return customer But being that I do a mobile service.I obviously wanted to wash my hands before eating a sandwich.I asked if I could use a bathroom and was told they don't have a public restroom. Any restaurant that serves food should have a restaurant or somewhere for people to wash their hands. I stepped back , walked up to the counter , grabbed a number and was standing at the glass , treating the menu and set my stanley cup on the counter. One of the employees said to me kind of rudely.Can you move your cup? And said , we put deli meats there. I don't think that's up to code to set raw jelly beans on the counter top.And I think he was honestly more put off than I was standing at the glass rather than standing back like the other customers so I can read the menu. It's not a matter of what you ask.It's how you ask is by that point.I was fed up , I walked out and went to the pizza place and got a delicious ball sub with fast friendly service and used the bathroom to wash my hands.. I've been to the Corona location a few times I won't hold this against them, because they do have a bathroom and their staff has always been friendly about the people at this establishment need to work on their people, skills and realize they serve food.People need to use a restroom and wash their hands. read more

At this point, I'm sure I'm just one of hundreds of 5-star reviews, but the deserve it! I come here several times throughout the year. Of course, their sandwiches are fantastic and unless you have friends that don't eat bread then there's something for everyone. Sometimes I'll stop by here the day before a concert at the Bowl or wine country and order sandwiches for everyone. Just make sure to ask for it without the oil, so it keeps better for an extra day. I'm also a big fan of their prepared foods. It just makes an evening so much easier! Last year for Christmas Eve, I picked up a large eggplant parmesan, frozen gnocchi and a large tub of their meat sauce. Easy peasy! All I had to do was throw together a salad and serve it up. Everyone loved it and it all game together so easily. They also have a great grocery/pantry area with tons of specialty Italian items that you really can't find anywhere else. During the holidays they have a ton of new breads and cakes that you can bring to any party. My niece also loves the giant chocolate eggs that are filled with treats. I haven't tried their pastries or cookies yet, but they look very tempting. Claro's has several locations and all the ones I've been to are great, so even if you can't make it here, definitely stop by a location near you. it's been a long while since I have been here. I used to work down the road from here and would come here every once in a while. This time we drove from an hour away to have lunch. Before you even walk in the door you can smell great food. The store is very well laid out. I could probably go broke from all the stuff I want to buy. The staff are super friendly and inviting. Today we were there to get a sandwich. we ended up getting the uncle Bob. Man the pastrami is Yum! everything tasted so fresh. I would order that sandwich over and over. The yellow mustard was a bit excessive but, still ate the sandwich.. The bread was a bit tough.. I used to come earlier in the day before and don't remember the bread bean tough. Maybe this time because it was 5 o'clock in the evening? The staff here were super friendly. Ended up getting a couple of cannolis made fresh. Man those were good too. I was in the shopping center for something else where this store is located, so I figured I'd drop by to get some head cheese. I don't like how the employee packaged my deli meat. I believe his hands were bare (meaning no gloves) when he was slicing the meat. Then, if that wasn't bad enough, when he was wrapping it up in the butcher paper, I saw he had on gloves then, but then two times, he touched his nasty cap he was wearing, then touched my meat again. The people behind the deli need to be trained to be more customer oriented! They are clearly not interested in service but talking with eachother and ignoring the customer. This has changed and it does not give you that welcoming feeling. Try to ignore them! The pastries are lacking since the Italian bakery that made them closed down. The smell of all the amazing food just hits you when you walk in the door and instantly puts you in a good mood because you know you're going to get something great. Every staff member I interacted with was so friendly. My dad comes here as often as he can to get their eggplant parm and he lives about an hour away so that's saying something. I also live an hour away and this was my first time back in many years but it's definitely worth the drive for the food and service and I will be making the drive more often now. I had a large grocery order got home and was overcharged. 1/2 small pint of macaroni salad should have been $6 and I was charged $16. Then I was charged for 4 lemon bars when I only purchased 2. Being married to an Italian New Yorker now living in California, Claro's Italian Market was a serendipitous finding for us recently. We moved to California from NYC almost eight years ago and the void that Claro's fills for my husband cannot be described. They have EVERYTHING to bring a delicious Italian meal to our home. We have visited a few of their markets, but their Upland location is the one we visit most frequently. This Upland location is situated in a small center with other businesses. They have a free parking lot shared among the other shops. There always seems to be spots available, so parking is never an issue. We frequently visit for sandwiches. My husband loves their deli selection, specifically the Great Grandpa Joe, and I enjoy their warm meatball sandwich. The ingredients are always fresh, generously portioned, and tasty. Their large sandwiches are extremely filling. I can usually get two or three servings from it. I also always insist on bringing home at least two mini cannolis for dessert and they are always delicious. Staff is friendly and efficient. As noted, aside from their deli, hotplate, and dessert sections, they also are a market. They carry many things that cannot be purchased in a regular grocery store and pricing is fair. My husband has been looking forward to bring back Sunday sauce with ingredients he has yet to find here in California. A great, quality selection. If it's still not apparent, we are big fans of Claro's Italian Market, especially this Upland location. It is worth the visit even if you may just be coming to order one of their sandwiches. read more

One of my all-time favorite markets! (I can't believe I didn't write a review yet.) For me, this place ranks up there with Ace Hardware and Lowe's for most fun place to stroll through and buy goodies :D I can never get out without a full bag of things I didn't even intend on buying. First off, this is where I buy all my pasta, so I stock up every few months with all sorts of fabulous shapes and textures to make my own pasta sauces at home. They also have bottled and canned sauces (I like the canned clam sauces for those nights I'm too lazy to make my own clam pasta) and frozen raviolis that are great.
