This is a great spot in Del Ray. I worked at Cheestique when it first opened in 2004 and am impressed with how much this shop has grown. The owner Jill is passionate about cheese, and has grown this tiny cheese shop into a major DC business. My family stopped by to get some cheese and stayed to get some dinner. My partner loved the grown up mac n' cheese. I ordered the Cheesetique cheesesteak which was so delcious. It was steak, with tellegio on a delicious roll with a side salad. Our kids enjoyed the mac n' cheese and grilled cheese options while we loved the outdoor seating and the tasty wine selection. My husband got a glass of saugvinon blanc and I had a pinot noir from oregeon (a region that i typically don't love but enjoyed this particular sample). We truly enjoyed our time here. This restaurant is slightly confusing since half of it is actually a shop but there is a restaurant. The place itself is small with some more seating in the back so I would say a reservation is a must. We came for restaurant week and I got the french onion soup which was ok. I go the gnocchi and cheesecake where both were solid. I tried the cheeseteak which not that cheesy but the bread and meat were solid as well. Great service! The mac and cheese is legit, the French onion soup is fantastic, I could eat two bowls, and the grilled cheese sandwich is exactly what you want it to be--crispy, gooey, and kind of addictive. (No, I don't eat them all in one sitting. I have some self-respect.) The staff knows their stuff and actually seems to like working there, which is rare. And the front shop? I chose cheesetique to go to during restaurant week and I'm a bit disappointed on how my meal turned out. I used to be an avid cheesetique go-er since I loved their braised short ribs, the grown up, and their truffle gnocci. I was sad and shocked that they removed the braised beef off their menu and replaced it with a pork dish. They also seemed to remove the cheeseboards as an option to the restaurant week menu. Here's my rating of the items: Drink: Blueberry mocktail - very fruity and not overpowering 5/5 Appetizer: Tomato soup - Not too heavy 5/5 Entre: Truffle Gnocci - I was sad as this time it felt like it lacked the truffle flavor. 2/5 Dessert: Chocolate Mousse - You can never go wrong with the mousse. The tomato soup here is sooo good. I ordered the Sassy Goat lunch special (half soup, half sandwich) and it was good. I think I'd opt for a more classic grilled cheese next time but there would definitely be a next time. The greens were lightly dressed (too lightly, in my opinion), so don't be afraid to ask for dressing. I also would've rather had a Caesar side salad (and would've paid) but there's no option for that. I recently went to Cheesetique to pick up dinner for me and my wife on a Friday night in. She got the French onion soup with a side of mac & cheese. I got the cheesecake with a side of mac & cheese. Total was about $47 for pick up. Personally, I don't think the quantity of food was worth the amount but the food was good. My wife loved the French onion soup. When picking up the food, I noticed that they had a very wide selection of alcohol and different cheeses. Overall a good experience. They have two different side of the restaurant, if I'm not mistaken. One for dining in, and the other for pickups. read more

I found this shop based on a local wholesale distributor, and his recommendation was spot on. I was greeted like an old friend at the the door by the owner, Jill Erber who was working in the dining room of Cheesetique. A few tables were filled by late lunchers, including a family with children. She asked how she could help and I told her that I was in search of some help with cheese for a charcuterie board. She said she had just the person to help me. And, she was telling the truth! Michael is very knowledgeable about his products and took the time to introduce me to exciting cheeses and .meats. it was a wonderful experience! That evening's get together was a great hit. It was made better by the fact that Michael had shared lots of information about each cheese that I bought and the receipt included the specific name of each item. So to the group it wasn't just some kinda blue cheese, it was Cave Man Blue from Rogue Creamery! I will definitely be back to enjoy some of their other offerings and would love to try the fried cheese curds and the shrimp and grits from their adjoining restaurant. I ended up choosing this Cheestique for Valentines Day dinner with my fiancée. I wanted to choose someplace I thought would be cooler or something, but I didn't want to go into DC for logistical reasons, some other options were already booked, others had bad menues, and they happened to offer a V-Day Prix-Fixe menu that was made up of our favorite dishes. So, I pulled the trigger on a reservation and wasn't at all disappointed. For the appetizer, they served a baked brie topped with a cranberry compote. It was a perfect app, and we had some left over for a to-go box even after sharing good helpings where we asked for extra bread. For the entree, we could choose between coq au vin and a black truffle gnocchi... We went halfsies on each. The meat was very tender for the coq au vin and in delicious sauce. I expected a good truffle sauce for the gnocchi but was impressed that the gnocchi itself (and I'm kind of a gnocchi connoisseur) was great. Then we got a dessert of flourless chocolate cake with a passion fruit and something else compote. Good dessert. I'm prone to complaining about Valentines markups, but the three courses were $79 for a couple, which seemed quite reasonable. Our server was a young guy who might not be as polished as a five-star restaurant server, but he has the instincts to be one if that's what he wants. I could read his uncertainty sometimes, but he had a good sense of when we were talking and didn't want to be disrupted, when we wanted finished glasses cleared out, etc. And he generally seemed quite pleasant. We were seated in their back room dining area where they have bookshelves of wine, which was beautiful and very on-brand. A cheese themed restaurant?!! With an adjacent wine shop?? What a GEM of a concept. I've been here twice. On my first visit, I sat inside and participated in their "raclette-fest". During this visit, attentive staff walked over to our table and sliced melted cheese off of a cheese-wheel and onto our plates (covering our mac&cheese orders). The staff were knowledgable, kind, and gave me sufficient space to eat and catch up with a friend. Plus, we got to enjoy melted cheese and fancy paired wines! On my other visit to Cheesetique, I sat outside on the patio. The staff took quite a while to take my order. This, compounded with a long wait for my food and an even longer wait for my expensive mixed drink made this visit less enjoyable. The cocktail came out after my entree, and I had to drink it pretty quickly before leaving. Note: It seems that the wait staff are expected to prepare almost all of the food, on top of taking orders and serving tables. The second night I visited, there was just one bartender serving a full bar and the entire restaurant. Came here for a "before we part ways for a while" date and it was fantastic. I made a lunch reservation, though the place was nearly empty so perhaps that degree of preparation was overkill. Regardless, their food offerings (specifically their grilled cheese and their mac and cheese) were out of this world and worth every penny. The service was excellent as well, and we were greeted when we came in and well-taken care of by our server with excellent recommendations and frequent callbacks. We were on a limited timeframe and let our server know that, and he did everything in his power to make sure we had a nice AND quick experience. While prices here are a little higher than most, they are unquestionably worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I have purchased cheeses from their retail side in the past as well and have never been disappointed by the flavorful offerings. Parking here can be a challenge sometimes, though if you go onto a side street (or are really good at parallel parking) you can usually find a spot. I am extremely lucky to have a place like Cheesetique only a five minute drive from my house and I look forward to taking advantage of that proximity again soon! I had the red wine sangria, and it was one of the best sangrias I have had. We shared the fried cheese curd appetizer and they cheesy but not too greasy. For my entree, I had the Mac and cheese which came with a side of mixed greens. The mac and cheese was so gooey and delicious, and it had a crunchy top. The mixed green made for a nice break from all the cheese. The restaurant feels very upscale, but the pricing was not that bad. They also have outdoor seating available. The service was also very good. They did check on the table a little too often, but that's better than not often enough. The "experience", as they deemed it, started off great, with a charcuterie board, which was pretty good. The starter arugula salad was equally as good. That's likely when we should've ended our meal, as it all went downhill from there. In rolled the crab mac...unsatisfactory. The top dressing (breadcrumbs?) was scorched; the mac was dry and lacking both flavor and crab. The underwhelming entree came next, short rib, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Lackluster! The unsanitary will have us never spend another dime in this establishment again. It takes one poor experience to ruin us completely. We took the shrimp & grits entree to go and while trying it at home, we discovered a long, ash blonde hair hanging from our fork. Newsflash, neither of us are blonde! Nearly $200 spent, and all there was to "experience" was charcuterie we could have made at home. Never again! read more

What a classy place. This isn't your run of the mill cheese joint, this is some high grade stuff. I went there a couple of days ago to find a great cheese to pair with a malbec. The worker behind the counter was quick to recommend an aged Gouda due to its bold flavor, without the smell and geez louise papa cheese she was right! The paring was excellent. Aside from the knowledgeable staff, there is a bunch of other fancy cheeses that I'm pretty sure you have to stick your pinky out when you eat it. Also there is a variety of wines across the wine spectrum, as well as other snacks, utensils type stuff, and a restaurant side you can sit in and enjoy yourself. My only perceived drawback are the prices, this stuff ain't cheap. But, sometimes you have to pay to play so open your wallets and get fancy. read more
