We've dined here twice now & we plan to be regulars! The food is outstanding, from salad to dessert everything on the menu is delicious. Personally I've had the goulash & the chicken cooked like Katsu but named something else. The goulash is heavenly & will probably be my go to entree on subsequent visits. Our friends had the special vegetarian entree & the other cooked chicken. They were both very pleased with their entrees. Everyone loved the buttery moist rice that accompanies most of the dishes. Apparently the gentleman that greets you & takes the orders is the original Chef Alisah and he is warm & welcoming & seemingly proud & happy when diners enjoy their experience. He smartly steered our vegetarian diner away from the eggplant dish saying that the eggplant was not good this year. The walls are adorned with several life sized pictures of Guy Fieri & restaurant employees. I can see why he featured the place on Triple D! It's a local jewel to be sure. Oh my, Tucsonans, how lucky you are to have this gem tucked away on North Oracle. My meal began with a small cabbage salad, and you're probably thinking how boring that is, but it's a zippy, fresh, delightful little palette cleanser that sets the stage for the entrée. For my main dish, I ordered the Bosnian-style goulash, which features cubes of beef in a delicious gravy served alongside homemade white butter rice with a couple of slices of fresh bread. While eating the goulash, I was struck by the fact that had the beef been just a wee bit more tender, the dish would be really similar to carne guisada. The entire meal was a delight. The quality ingredients are so well prepared. The house-made cheeses are so fresh and flavorful. I can't wait to try more of the dishes. I can't think of many American dishes that feature cabbage as the stand-out ingredient. But there are many in Eastern Europe. And the stuffed cabbages at Alisah are wonderful. Our 55+ community planned an international luncheon. No one had been there so to serve our large group, they were willing to provide an assortment of six entrees! Too many chickened out! Serving were so generous that I suggest sharing entrees so you can taste more. I had read the reviews and had decided that I really wanted to try the surprise plate for 2 (and bring leftovers home). As others have said, there was enough for four! Everything was so tasty! I believe they make their own beef sausages -- mini (maybe 3", but I bet there were 10+ on the platter), plus 4 delicious chicken breast pieces, 2 large skewers, a generous serving of gyro meat all covering rice, veges, and a wonderful serving of taziki sauce! The side cabbage salad was fresh and delicious. There were even two perfectly grilled hot dogs to serve the kids. (That was my choice for our evening meal from the leftovers). I shared samples with my fellow diners, and still had enough to share with our family of 5 for dinner! Two of us tried the Bosanska Kafa - Bosnian Coffee due to the waitress's enthusiasm. I was standing outside waiting for the rest of my party when the chef and owner came out to talk with me. He was super friendly and gave me a little bit of history about his restaurant. It was actually featured on one of those Guy Fieri shows and he has pictures with him. I chose the sampler for 2 which included chicken breast, sausage, beef, and steak. From start to finish the order was out in less than 10 minutes. The owner was very friendly and we continued to chat a little. For mediterranean food I feel the price was fair $35 for 2 people and a huge to go Box. He also snuck in a small Box of chocolate and Hazel/almonds candies in our bag. What came out was just massive: chicken, kabobs, veggies, souvlaki, sausages, eggplant. It was all grilled meat and the flavor had the charred taste but was well seasoned. The reason why we chose this was because after a week of eating out we just started to run out of options of things to wanting to eat, or at least choosing. However after sitting down and looked at the menu, the hubby and I decided to go for the four meat grill platter experience. And boy let me tell you...my taste buds were doing the happy dance! I have no words to describe the flavor of all the meet. Sausage and hamburger patty was not americanized, it had flavor. The grilled chicken was tender and juicy. This was very KETO friendly. As I grazed on the protein platter, I felt myself having meat sweats. The platter came with 2 different sauces, tzatziki and Ivar(sp) and 2 types of rice. My friend and I found this place on our way back from Biosphere. We both wanted to try something new and we found this place. We hadn't tried Bosnia food before and figured it's as good a time as any since it was on the way back to her apartment. She perused the menu in the car and we placed the order for pick-up. I got the Bosnian Meatballs and a slice of baklava, and she got the Bosnian sausages. We also got the stuffed grape leaves to share. Both of the main dishes come with homemade bread. They wrapped it separately in foil so we could share it. After picking up the food and driving back to her apartment, the food smelled so good I was afraid I'd start eating it there and get tomato sauce all over myself. Let me start off by saying if you're like me and you haven't heard of this place before, you're in for a treat. This restaurant was featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives (Season 28, Episode "Seafood & Savory"). The chef runs the restaurant with his wife & son. If you watched the episode, you'll know a) he is a survivor of the Bosnian War, having have been taken prisoner and brutally beaten, and b) his love of cooking stems from working with his mother at her restaurant. It's hard not to admire this guy who came from a warzone, was relocated to Tucson and achieved his dream of opening his own restaurant. As I was poking around on my phone about a minute after placing my order the owner Chef Alisah came out with a bowl of bean and sausage soup and thanked me for comming saying this is for you. He pointed out three dishes as his favorites - Goulash / Beef with Mushroom Sauce / Chicken with Paprika Sauce. I opted for the Chicken & my husband went with the Goulash. Each dish is served with a cabbage salad, some bread, and butter rice. The cabbage salad was brought to us first, it was heavily dressed but was a good start to the meal. Our entrees arrived shortly after. My Chicken in Paprika Sauce was tasty, had a tomato-base & was pretty creamy. The homemade bread was a great vehicle to sop up the sauce but I actually liked the rice more. It had a bit of a peppery kick to it when eaten alone & tasted great with the chicken. I would get this dish again. My husband enjoyed the Goulash, that one was a little bit more hearty with chunks of beef. Lots of flavor. Overall, a great meal. Visiting, and my wife and I decided to try something outside of the ordinary style foods native to the area. The restaurant is a casual style, relaxed atmosphere with about 20 tables or so. We were seated immediately. The restaurant was clean and had a friendly at home vibe. We decided to order the Mixed Grill for two platter. My wife wasn't sure she would like what was on it so we also ordered her the gyro plate. The restaurant sells bottled soft drinks, and fountain drinks of both major vendors. The server/waiter was very helpful and was always there for refills. He asked quite a few times if we were enjoying the food and if he could provide any additional assistance. The meal was brought out. Everything was presented well and brought out in quick succession for the dishes. The Mixed Grill for two is kind of deceiving because it has two layers of food. Once you move things around on it you realize the magnitude of food which it has on it. It had rice, grilled veggies, tomato slices onions, eggplant slices, parsley, steak patty kebobs, beef sausage, white sausage, gyro meat, tzatziki, chicken breast. Served on the side were 2 styles of grilled bread. The wife's gyro plate was an ample helping of gyro meat, pita, and tzatziki. We have traveled all over the country and tried many restaurants serving gyro. The secret to a good gyro is truly in the tzatziki. It can make or break an experience every time. The tzatziki sauce here was nice and creamy, consistently mixed and had absolutely wonderful flavor and not runny at all. I put it on my top 4 list I have tried. Since tzatziki recipes are so varied this is going to be personal perspective. Chef did share with me some ingredients. I will be switching over to how he makes it for my home meals. For the most part the gyro meat is going to be extremely similar in taste +/- a few spice variations, and potentially meat ingredients (beef/lamb, beef, anything outside of those two meats and I'll pass, just my personal taste). I don't mean the sliced gyro meat junk either. I mean the real deal spit grilled gyro/kebab meat. This restaurant has the Chicago style meat, spit, hand shaved off meat. The chef confirmed my assumption. The other meats brought on the Mixed Grill plate were very good. I am a big spice person in food. I found the meats to have just the right amount without alienating those whom prefer light spices to heavy spices. Everything was warm and tasted delicious. We could of course not finish everything on the platter and had to bring it back to the hotel. We asked them to place it in plastic bags instead of to-go boxes because these mini fridges are so limited on space. Chef Alisah came out and visited with us for about 4 minutes or so. We had a great conversation, he gave me some advice, I offered some feedback. He is a great guy who honestly loves what he does and the satisfaction it brings his customers on an individual basis. I don't meet to many chefs who really give a darn about what their customers think beyond the 20 seconds they have to listen to them. Chef Alisah is not only about quality, but quantity, and flavor, even if it comes at the price of sacrificing profit to make it happen every time a customer walks through that door. If I lived locally I would be at the restaurant quite often. If you aren't familiar with the dishes they serve just ask. They are more than happy to explain what each thing is. If you haven't had this style of food before don't worry, it isn't anything crazy weird or something you probably haven't had before but just named different in another countries recipe name. The spices are mainly going to be the difference and they aren't overbearing in any way. read more
