I wouldn't have thought to try this restaurant except my friend, Rachel, said it was her favorite place in Tucson. And it is lovely! I sat in the bistro area the first time I visited and the dining room the second time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I slightly prefer the bistro because I was a little too close to the service area in the dining room.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is friendly and much more down to earth than most French restaurants I've been to. The cocktails are a little too sweet for me, so I probably should have stuck to wine, but the drink was well prepared. We love Le Rendez-vous! We went again last night and it was spectacular as always. My mom came in and she is a chronic complainer, especially at favorite restaurants I would like to return to. She was only delighted at Le Rendez-vous and had not one bad thing to say. Of course not IMO. The food is wonderful, the service is better than any we've had in Tucson and the setting is elegant but not stuffy. I hope to visit again soon. Don't skip dessert! read more

Had a wonderful time! I came a few weeks ago and it was absolutely delicious. Service was okay but there was a special birthday event so I don't think that was the norm. Our table ordered mussels and scallops as small plates which were FANTASTIC. The scallop was resting on a bed of a bean medley stewed in red wine. The mussels were in a garlic cream sauce served with bread. The crab chowder was so so. There were string pieces of crab as if the real crab was in the building next to us and a very strong wind came through and blew the small pieces in the wind into the soup. The Chilean sea bass was spectacular. The potatoes were not that great but the vegetables were yummy. Ended the night with the pear tart with icecream! It was good. No more no less. read more

Excellent food. Poor service. The Brie en Coutre was melty, warm, savory and sweet all in one... and i did question if i wanted to share! The Saint Jacques (scallops) were cooked to perfection with balanced garlic and hint of citrus. The beef Wellington was tender and packed with flavors. Dessert included their famous Grand Marnier Soufflé and crepes suzettes (ps- both these desserts have orange flavor). They have a good cocktail and wine menu too. I joined my clients/friends for dinner. It's been years since I've been here. I had no idea there was French food like this in Tucson. I mentioned this to our waitress and was told what year they opened and boy do I feel dumb. I believe it was here back in the 80's. Lol. Anyway, after spending seven weeks in Paris last Spring, I came home craving some of what I had. Especially the French Onion Soup. I also was looking for a Beef Wellington in Tucson which initially grabbed my attention. I had both. They were great. The drinks came quickly, and everything was perfect. This place has been around for a while, but this was my first time eating here. First, the service. Everyone was super friendly and the server was attentive to the tables needs. We didn't wait more than about two minutes before someone attended our table, brought the bread and butter, and filled our cups with water and took our drink order quickly. During our visit the server(s) constantly kept up with the table. Taking orders and clearing plates. After dinner they immediately brought a sample of all the desserts to see and brought everything out quickly. We didn't feel rushed at all either. Great service! Second, the atmosphere. The place was super clean and quiet. Great place to go especially if you want a quiet place to eat. With this place being fairly small, it's a good idea to get reservations. Thirdly, the food. I ordered the Wellington. The beef was so tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare temp. The puff pastry was exactly what it should be. It was very well complemented by the mushroom paste which gave it the earthy flavor without being overpowering. Together, this was a great Wellington. The vegetables it came with were also very flavorful and cooked well. Even though I don't eat a lot of vegetables, I ate them all here! My wife ordered the duck and it was delicious! Extremely flavorful and tender. The cherry bourbon reduction was very well put together and I would highly recommend either dish. For dessert, I ordered the crème Brulé. Very nicely done. Crispy sugar top with a nice warm pudding underneath. To finish it was sprinkled with powered sugar and strawberries. All is all, this was a five star experience. There really isn't a large selection of French restaurants in this town, and this was a great choice. If you're in the area, or a local, give this place a try. You'll be glad you did. We went to Les Rendez-vous for a birthday date night, and were overall pleased with the food and cocktails, but the service didn't quite match the expectations set by the fine-dining tone. Let's start with the positives: the meal, which is the most important! We got cocktails to start, and the Bruléed Fashion was a real treat! The drink is largely a standard Old Fashioned, but the server coats an orange slice with sugar and brulées it tableside as a garnish to the cocktail. The showmanship was really fun, and the drink itself was delicious. The beet salad was an excellent starter, with gorgeously marinated beets and rich goat cheese. The acidic vinaigrette was a lovely counterpoint to the beets and cheese, making for a light, zingy salad. For entrees, we got the veal medallions and the scallops. Both dishes came with roasted potatoes and vegetables, and we also got some fries as an additional side. The scallops in particular were lovely! They had a great sear, but were still very tender and moist. Their flavor was very well complemented by the garlic aioli on which they sat. It was a delicious meal, worthy of five stars, but the service pulled my overall rating down. Summary of the less-than-ideal service: when we walked in, multiple staff members looked at us, but made no move to acknowledge us (even just a "someone will be with you in a moment" would have been appreciated). We waited for quite some time before someone came over and sat us, and then the wait for a server commenced. Suffice it to say that, while we were in no rush, there's only so long you can look around wondering who your server is before you start to wonder if anyone has been assigned your table at all. Our server did eventually come by, but there were lots of other little things for which we had to flag down other staff -- missing silverware, not being offered bread though other tables had it, water refills... The vegetables were too salty and overly seasoned, but that was my only complaint. The severs were personable and friendly. The service was very good, and while some may not appreciate the length of time between courses, and even between ordering them, we really appreciated not being rushed. What a luxury to not feel pushed out of a restaurant. Servers were attentive and friendly, but not obtrusive. We came here on a Thursday night and, despite being late due to another appointment, they were kind enough to seat us anyway. We chose to sit on the more casual side, as it has booths and is much more comfortable. As for the drinks, the Sidecar was too sweet for my taste, the Aviation was just okay, and while the Kir Royale started off bitter, it grew on me by the end. The Brûléed Fashion was delicious with a nice caramelized flavor. The sea bass was plain without the sauce, but the sauce itself was too rich and buttery. On the other hand, the salmon was cooked perfectly, and even the accompaniments and sauce were spot-on. The escargot was also delicious. I didn't care for the mussels or their sauce, and the brie was too rich for me--I could only manage one bite. read more

From the looks of the exterior, one wouldn't think this restaurant would be as classy as it is. Initially, I was afraid I arrived at the wrong place, or the internet lied to me by saying it was open when it actually wasn't. Thankfully, that wasn't the case as I discovered the entrance was in the back of the building- inside the parking lot. My partner & I had a reservation for 5:45pm, and we were greeted by a employee right away. We were taken to a clean seating area, placed in front of a large painting that sparked conversation while we waited for our food. In fact, the whole dining area was decorated with unique paintings. In retrospect, I remember commenting on at least three of them. Our server introduced himself swiftly, and introduced the special meals that were taking place that day- including a Chilean Sea Bass that I would go on to order for myself. For starters, my partner & I shared a French Onion Soup & Escargot along with complimentary bread & butter. All of it was absolutely delicious and fresh! Tip: Try to refrain from eating all your bread if you're ordering Escargot; you're going to want to save it to soak up the delicious sauce. For entrees, my partner ordered a Roasted Duck to pair with my Sea Bass, and both were great. The fish took the edge though since I didn't like scavenging for bones while eating the duck; plus, the Sea Bass melted in your mouth so well, I made an audible delighted sound when I had my first bite. Normally, I wouldn't order dessert, but it was a special occasion, so I indulged in a Grand Marnier Soufflé while my partner had the highly recommend Crepes Suzette. What more could I say that I haven't said already? The dessert was incredible, and for my first time having Soufflé, this was a great introduction. I won't deny that part of my raving over this restaurant had to do with the special event my partner & I were celebrating, which could make things more rose-tinted, per say, but I like to believe that the atmosphere of the restaurant enhanced our joy. Though the dining area was small, it was filled with warmth. I cannot speak for the employees personal feelings on their jobs, but I'll say at the very least that they appeared to love their work and in turn, their enthusiasm made me more excited to try their food. The decorations piqued my interest to learn more about them, like one would feel in The Louvre Museum in Paris. Even the other attendees, whom come from all walks of life, contributed to the good vibes. I saw groups of friends catching up, couples engrossed in their own world, families celebrating birthdays, and several parties had an employee take photos for them to commemorate their big night out. I'm pretty sensitive to my environment, and oftentimes can feel overstimulated when it becomes too stressful, but at Le Rendez-Vous, it was different. Sure, there was a lot going on, but instead of feeling anxious, I remained in a state of calm (and that's not just because I had a Blonde Cosmo cocktail). The happiness exuded off everyone was noticed by me, and as a result, I too was happy. Happier leaving than I was when I entered. I felt gratitude for my partner choosing this place, and even more that I have a chance to experience more wondrous things like how I felt here. Not as good as it used to be. First, I made reservations online and we were assigned to the restaurant vs the bistro, basically 2 steps apart, but with different menus. Our server was really nice and attentive. She changed our wine without any problems when both my friend and I thought it had gone bad. The food itself was disappointing. I could feel the sand in the mussels, and the main dish had such a heavy sauce that I only ate the meat (which was really good quality). And I love rich french food. Since end of the long reign of Janos Wilder on the Tucson haute cuisine scene, Le Rendez-Vous seems to be the next heir apparent located in a boonies location away from central downtown. However, the local gentry have bee lined to this French oasis.  I was a last minute "walk in" on a Thursday at 6pm, and the staff was welcoming & placed me in a comfortable patio covered by a very permanent, crimson canopy. The permanent dining room seems more formal with white plaster walls & rustic open beamed ceiling.  1) Not on the official menu, I asked if Foie Gras Grillé were available? Because Foie Gras is incorporated in their Beef Wellington, the answer was yes!   Quick seared dark brown to provide a meaty texture with light hash marks decorated by a scrim of foam. Drizzles of aged sweet grapey Aceto Balsamico.  The fatty, rich, light liver organ meat flavour was accompanied by two confited black cherries, Cornichon, mixed salad and slices of toasted Brioche.   1a) Classic pairing of Haut Sauternes Roumieu 2020 undergoing Pourriture Noble. Sweet, lush, honey-like with bouquet like orange, lychee, passion fruit.  2) Canard Montmorency: A roasted half duck nicely browned in a dark Sauce Demi-Glace. Three black cherries infused with Bourbon. Small mélange of lightly sautéed veggies. Montmorency north of Paris was noted for its sour cherries in France.    2a) Nice, by the glass, dark stone fruit, juicy Côtes du Rhône made from Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah.  3) Pithivier:  Not the usual rounded puff pastry. La Rendez-Vous version looks like a rolled up Crêpe stuffed with frangipane almond paste sprinkled with snowy confectioners' sugar. Squiggles of chocolate syrup, garnished with strawberry & spearmint leaves.   3a) Café Americano in a stainless steel vacuum serving pitcher to maintain warmth.  Service is adequate to friendly varying with the staff member. Since it was a full house, everyone was busy trying to coördinate & keep up with the orders. Although it's not une étoile in the Guide Michelin, the bistro French fare here is quite good.  4 stars read more

Once you're on a Saturday night, our reservation was at 8:15 PM. We sat in the bistro and Lucius was our server. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's lots of cute French decor in the restaurant![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with small plates (only available in the bistro which is technically a covered outdoor patio with AC), we got the escargot, French onion soup, and house Pâté. The escargot were delicious, and went very well with the bread. I left the French onion soup, you can never go wrong! The cheese was nice and gooey and the soup was piping hot. Not the biggest pâté person so I left that for my Diane. We also ended up getting the mini Wellington from the small plates menu, and unfortunately does not come with foie gras but nonetheless it was absolutely delicious! We also ordered the trip de champignon, which had mushrooms and Brie in a soft puffed pastry was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! The cheese paired beautifully with the gooey ness of the mushrooms and the pastry was the cherry on top because it was soft and flaky and just incredible. The meat was cooked a perfect medium rare and the soft pastry was spectacularly paired with the delicious sauce- definitely the Star of the show!!! We also got the duck (Canard), and the sweet cherry sauce with the 2 cherries was FABULOUS- highly recommend!! It was thigh and a drumstick, and wow those cooked cherries with the cherry reduction were. The side of vegetable medley was delicious, and the potato chips were incredible too!! Definitely a winner here! We ended the night off with a crème brûlée, which was good although I usually prefer a thicker custard for the base. The cocktails were also delicious, I loved the "a gift from the tsar", very well balanced between bittersweet citrus with a teeny hint of sweetness: almost reminiscent of a paper airplane. The phantom verte was fun because there's mezcal and Absinthe rinse on the rim and it was delicious, very different! Great option for French food if you're in the Tucson area!! read more

Been here a few times and following up with a review fresh from the restaurant. Dinner with my dad tonight, pretty bustling bistro for a summer Thursday evening, dining room as well. Our server/bartender were very attentive and courteous. The food and drinks came out timely, very leisurely. I ordered the beet salad with goat cheese, steak frites medium, and we each had an old fashioned. Pros: fresh salad, nice balance, crispy fries, well seasoned, the flavoring on steak and jus, attentive service, nice atmosphere, my dad loved the sea bass. Cons: only that the steak seemed a little more well-done than I'd wanted, but the flavor was there. Nice for an upscale dinner, intimate date maybe for the dining area, but not too stuffy in the bistro. Reasonably priced dishes and a decent small plates/HH menu. Location may turn people off but it shouldn't deter you from dining. Will need to try the Wellington next time. Spent a special evening at Le Rendez-vous and were not disappointed. The atmosphere is sweet and fits the bill for a Parisian night out in Tucson. The food was classic and tasty. The veal was cooked perfectly! The duck was also incredible and rich with rhe cherries. Wish we would have tried the souffle - next time! Fantastic service, fantastic food. Book early if you want to dine here. This place books up fast, and after eating here...I can see why. This lovely restaurant is small but packs a delicious menu, which makes it a lovely place for a date night or anniversary dinner. Seating is all indoor, and seating for parties of 8 is limited. So, smaller groups work best. No seating at the bar, so be prepared to wait to snag a drink. Comfortable booths and a few standard tables fill the dining room. The menu has a lovely variety of fish, beef, and vegetable options. I chose the beef wellington, and to my delight, it was exactly what I had hoped it would be. Warm red center (medium rare) with a light, crunchy, delicious pastry snuggled around the steak. It was DELICIOUS! I paired that with a lovely monkey shoulder scotch, and my dinner was absolutely perfect. Come check this place out! It's worth the wait for the reservation. read more

Diego surprisingly recognized us from our last visit! He is the best! Friendly attentive, made our evening very enjoyable. We ordered cocktails while deciding on what to order. We arrived at 4, right when they opened (I prefer eating early) so they weren't busy. But our service was uneven from the start. Drinks took a long time, and while my water glass was refilled promptly, it took my dining companion literally waving someone down to get his empty glass refilled. The tooth fish crudo appetizer was a delight, as was my classic favorite the escargot. But the Brie in puff pastry was a bit heavy and greasy. For entrees, I had the scallops. The scallops themselves were perfectly cooked, and the accompanying potatoes and vegetables were delicious and light. But the sauce for the scallops was cloying with an odd aftertaste. And my dining companion's sea bass (he got the special) was very fatty and included a human hair. Dessert was solid, and included an excellent crème brûlée and the pithivier was also delicious. So, I have very mixed feelings- how can the start and end of a meal by so good, but the main course so...not? read more

This was our first time dining here. Our friends (several couples) all say this is one of their favorite restaurants so we thought we'd give it a try. While the service was great the food itself was just okay. The restaurant is in an older building and in need of updating but it was clean. I would go back and give it another try someday but not super excited to go back right away. read more
