I was able to walk in on a busy night & get a seat in the bar area. The waiter was super nice but he did kind of keep forgetting me because I was at the bar. It was hard to flag him down & he forgot to put my dessert in & so I waited 20 minutes & then he admitted he forgot it & gave it to me for free. The food was good but it was just a little frustrating to have to wait around so much so that's why I docked a star. I feel like it was probably an anomaly though. read more

With two locations in the West End and on New Mexico Avenue, Chef Geoff's has become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. The location we visited, nestled between the trendy Dupont Circle and the bustling George Washington University campus in Foggy Bottom, perfectly encapsulates what makes this chain special. The restaurant itself is airy and bright, featuring large bay windows that open out onto a spacious patio. Inside, the atmosphere is upscale yet cozy, with a lovely bar that showcases a variety of alcohols and a fun mix of brown-and-blue booths that create an intimate yet laid-back vibe. The menu is diverse, offering something for everyone--from fresh salads to hearty sandwiches and more. We visited Chef Geoff's at noon on a Saturday during D.C. Restaurant Week, a time when the restaurant was bustling both inside and out. Fortunately, our party of six was able to secure a reservation just two hours in advance and were seated immediately upon arrival. The Restaurant Week special offered a set lunch menu, including an appetizer or drink, an entrée, and a dessert or additional drink, all for just $35--a great deal considering many of the entrees on the menu are priced near that amount alone! Only one member of our group opted for the set menu. My dad started with a glass of "Cava, Chef Geoff's Private Label, Penedes," which he described as average but still ordered a second glass in place of dessert, so it must have been decent enough. For his main course, he chose the Lobster Roll ($32 when ordered à la carte). The lobster roll was a generous portion of tender lobster, lightly dressed in mayonnaise with a hint of shallot that added a nice acidity. The crisp lettuce added a pleasant crunch, though the fries that accompanied the dish were a tad too salty. The only letdown was the bread; described as a "New England Roll," it lacked the buttery richness we were hoping for--something closer to Texas Toast would have been ideal. I ordered the Super Kale Bowl ($15, +$9 to add Garlic & Herb Chicken), which arrived with "local kale, shaved Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, quinoa, pecan granola, pumpkin seeds, carrots, dried cranberries, goat cheese, and lemon poppyseed dressing." Despite asking for the dressing on the side, my salad initially came out coated in it. However, our server promptly apologized and remade the dish without issue. The salad itself was fresh and crunchy, a delightful mix of flavors and textures. The tangy goat cheese, earthy greens, sweet cranberries, and acidic lemon poppyseed dressing all combined to create a healthy, satisfying meal. The chicken, while well-seasoned and tender, didn't quite justify the extra $9 charge. Overall, our experience at Chef Geoff's was positive. The restaurant's prime location, combined with its friendly service and solid menu, makes it a great choice for a variety of occasions--whether you're out with family or on a date night. While the prices can be a bit steep (though not unreasonable for the area), the Restaurant Week deal was truly a bargain, and I would have taken full advantage if I had been hungrier. I want to preface this review by stating that, although both the regular menus and happy hour menu looked intriguing, my companions and I only had drinks, but I wish we'd had more time and appetite for a late lunch or early dinner. A couple of friends and I found ourselves in the area with time to kill before an appointment and felt like treating ourselves to a cocktail when we saw this place, so we stopped in for a brief visit. It was quiet, and the service was fast and professional. The bartender, Abe, was kind enough to show me all three menus: Happy Hour, Lunch, and Dinner. The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced, and I have only two complaints that would account for my four-star rating. First, some very loud sounds of banging and moving furniture came from the adjacent (currently empty) dining room. It was sudden and intermittent and detracted from our enjoyment. I don't know why something so disruptive wasn't done during non-business hours. The second issue I had was with the sneaky practice of adding a 5% fee to the check. Those of us from DC know about this recent practice, and an informed diner also knows that this fee isn't mandatory, despite what the receipt says. It IS mandatory for the business but NOT for the diner. My issue is that there's an increasing number of unscrupulous restaurant managers (certainly not the server's fault) who choose to pass what should be a regular cost of business along to the customer. I note which establishments do this and try to avoid them as much as possible. For example, not a single Jose Andras restaurant has done this so far. I enjoy several other restaurants (Carmine's, Clyde's, and Makers Union come to mind) that also do not participate in this culinary financial assault on my wallet. To be fair, the receipt says, "Please adjust your tip accordingly," so I did. I'll let you determine which direction I went. read more

My wife came up with Chef Geoff's even though she would not be able to join us. Feeling under the weather our instructions were to go have an enjoyable meal and bring back food for her to our hotel room. This was our last night in DC. She chose well. A Lyft ride later and we found ourselves walking in without a reservation. Fortunately for us we got right in and started checking out the wide-ranging menu. My granddaughter went pizza. I went with pasta, their Cajun Bucatini with shrimp added. I quickly looked up what bucatini was and learned it was like a thick spaghetti noodle but hollow. I really liked it, it wasn't dense or heavy at all and worked very well with all the tomato cream based sauce of the dish. The very flavorful delicious sauce. The large shrimp made the dish even better. I definitely picked the right dish. Service was seamless from start to finish. The food including the pizza was ready in about 20 minutes and as soon as we finished eating the takeout food for my wife arrived. Smiles all around for our enjoyable meal. read more

This location is pretty good, corner of 22nd and M St. There is parking in a public lot on 22nd and limited street parking on M Street and 23rd. We got a reservation because we had an 8:00 at the Kennedy center. For two I would recommend this. The larger tables fill up later but it was a Tuesday and, with a mix of 20-something's and young families, the front section filled quickly. We tried the deviled eggs - TO DIEEEE FOR. So good. My only complaint is that there were only three. That's a tease, not an appetizer! Clearly it's intended as a starter for one!!!! It's impeccably seasoned and served on a bed of seasoned avocado puree. Can't call it guacamole really because no onion, cilantro or jalapeño, but it truly elevated the dish and I've never had avocado and deviled eggs so YUM. 12/10 Also, hubby went with the Hong Kong bowl. So delicious. Amazing! The tofu was well seasoned, there wasn't too much sauce nor too little and the crispy sprouts set it off perfectly texture wise. 10/10 I tried the Blackberry Bliss and it wasn't for the occasional drinker. At all. I was toasted in half a glass. Didn't last long but it also tasted pretty unassuming, quite delicious!! 10/10 But the blackening left MUCH to be desired. I ordered the blackened salmon and it tasted like it was seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked on a a George Foreman grill. Fail. And precious little salt. Blackening isn't just a coloring it's a seasoning and people should chill with using the term if they don't understand it. The house salad was okay. The honey mustard wasn't awful, but the salmon was bland, and not because it was medium. It was fresh and an excellent fish, but so, so bland. I was disappointed to say the least. My last review for 2024! I was here with a group for dinner this past weekend, and I'm glad to finally have an excuse to come here. Chef Geoff's is in a great location, and the main dining area is spacious and attractive. They have an excellent zero proof cocktail menu, and the Cranberry Bliss Mule was bright, not overly sweet, very tasty. I only had the drink because I had other dinner plans later, but everyone else seemed happy with their orders, and a few people got dessert too. I really like the bar and would want to make my next visit focused there. The happy hour menu is extensive and available every day of the week, which is amazing for DC. Sadly the food on that menu is not vegetarian friendly, but maybe I could do an appetizer from the main menu. The service was really the highlight of the visit for me. The host and hostess were courteous and welcoming, and the server for our table was friendly and very accommodating to our group. So the people I have met while in DC rave about this place. So carne to check it out. My hotel is next door anyway. It says outside 12 burgers on Tuesdays if you are in the rewards club. Issue is, they won't tell you how to sign up. I had to do some research to figure it out, but I did it. Ordered wings and they came quickly. I must say the wings are good. Had a great spice to them. Waiter must be busy as he does not check if you need anything often. Ordered the cheese burger with bacon. When it showed up it has one piece of bacon. Bummer on that, but it smells so good like a bbq burger. Comes with fries and a pickle skewer. There is a sauce and I like it, don't know what is in it but it is green. I put it on the burger and wow. Burger is Juicy and had onions and tomato. Fries are cooked well and I can say the food is good here. Wish staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Excellent service by Carlos and order the chef specials that he recommended. The lobster mac and cheese - delicious. Hot, cheesy and lots of lobster. Yummy crab cakes ( it was an entree) with fingerling potatoes and vegetables hash. Carlos had the kitchen split out NY Steak, so we could share everything. Everything was cooked to perfection. Restaurant recommended Tuna Poke off of the lunch menu to myself and a colleague. Immediately following lunch, we both became ill with histamine poisoning (due to spoiled fish). We called the restaurant when symptoms set in and spoke with a hostess, who said they would talk to the kitchen. It took over two hours for the restaurant to call back (unsure if they took the item off the menu during this time). They claim we were the only two people to experience these symptoms and suggested we had an allergic reaction to something else in the meal (we both have no allergies). Disappointing. read more

Food poisoning from spoiled fish! Two separate individuals at our table ordered the tuna poke bowl and experienced scombroid (histamine) poisoning. This is a food borne illness that is caused by fish that has been left out at room temperature for too long. The manager was extremely rude and tried to blame us for getting sick. To be clear, two people with no allergies ordered the same item and had the exact symptoms at the same time. If this is reflective of their food safety standards, it's safe to say the kitchen is NASTY. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more
