Ok so not sure about the previous reviews. However I can say I have been visiting EL HORNERO before they moved to the new location. They grew to this much bigger location, since they had so much demand. The food is so good they needed more tables and chairs! The Chef/owner is Peruvian and the seasoning tells the whole story! Coming to try this place after trying el rocoto in cerritos and loving the Peruvian food. I have to say that the food was pretty good, they have there own little twist to it but it taste delicious. The breads they give with butter are good but I would of liked to see the wheat bread that I am used to. And to finish it off the green salsa that they serve did not disappoint! I love it! read more

This place was a total disappointment. We were new to the bellflower area and wanted to support our local businesses. One of the reasons we came in was because we use the Entertainment booklet that restaurants participate in. If they didn't want to give first food experiences with a monetary benefit why the hell would you participate in the first place. It is a business agreement. Prior to coming in, I checked Yelp and was discouraged by the 2 1/2 star rating but, my husband said let's give it a chance. His steak was so tough and overcooked. And my plate was decent but not worth 14 bucks. THERE ARE BETTER PERUVIAN RESTAURANTS. We are first time customers to this Peruvian restaurant as guest for a coworker who will be performing this night. The restaurant was filled to capacity, hot & stuffy and understaffed with what appears to only be 2 waitresses on duty tending to a dining room with approximately 60 guest. We were greeted & seated by my Coworker, who will be performing (singing btw). Now, It's been 25 minutes and we have not even received a menu. Very uncomfortable. I managed to wave one of the two waitresses down, spoke to her in Spanish, mind you and she tells me that she's not my waitress. 35 minutes later, I managed to get a menu from another guest seated at another table. 40 minutes later, no food, no drink & no service, we got up and simply walked out! read more

The food is good, but one of the waiters is HORRIBLE. His name wasn't on the receipt, but he has super short hair and wears glasses. He never checks if you need refills on your drink, rarely checks to see if you need anything and there is maybe one other table of people in there. We gave up on getting anything else to drink, finished our food, set the plates at the end of the table and he STILL walked by without stopping to clear off a table where the people were already gone. He was more concerned with setting up plates and silverware for empty tables than paying attention to the customers still dining. Don't judge the restaurant based on him if you get him. There are others that are very good, nice, attentive... but next time, I'm peeking in first. If he's there, I'm out. That was our second time with him and the second time was worse than the first. The restaurant was empty with the exception of one other couple there and the service was absolutely terrible! The food took a really long time to come out and the waiter wasn't attentive at all. You know service is bad when you have to wait to ASK for a refill. When it's that empty I don't expect to be in a restaurant for more than 45 minutes but we were there for almost two hours. If I ever get food from there again ill probably just call in to take-out. On a lighter note, the arroz chaufa con pollo was good. read more

I was introduced to this place by a good Peruvian friend of mines I usually order the Lomo Saltado I like how it's not super salty like other places I've been too, they serve some really good bread nice and warm Their rotisserie to go meal is great I always get the whole chicken comes with salad and fries they are really good in adding good amounts of their house sauce which I love I also get a extra order of rice this meal is a perfect family meal it feeds my family of 6 just fine They also have ice cream which I think it's a nice desert I'm not a huge fan of the interior I feel it's too dark and sometimes the music feels a little too loud Other than that I do recommend this place Prices are okay I feel they are a bit on the high side but since the food is good I guess it balances out lol read more

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here, and will be back. I loved the bread and the aji verde, and was able to try a few different entrees from my group and all were good. I had the seco de res con frijoles, which was very tasty. The meat was tender and almost tasted like short rib meat. I was able to steal some fries from my grandma, and I enjoyed those as well. The atmosphere is very casual, and the restaurant is quite big so I would imagine it would be a good place to come with a large group. That said, service is a tiny bit slow (though, we were the only people there, so they may have been less attentive because of that) so I would worry that it would be slow during peak hours. read more

I love good Peruvian Cuisine & this place has REALLY GREAT FOOD!! I have eaten in the restaurant once & the service is good, but I just prefer to do take out & or delivery. The portions are large so plenty to share or split the dinner portions to try a bit of a selection. I love to try new things so this order was completely different from my last. I dont recommend coming here at all!!! I have heard from various people that this restaurant was pretty good so i was excited to come here. The place itself was really run down but sometimes rundown hole in the wall locations have really great food. I was severely disappointed. The food was absolutely atrocious the huancaina was tasted more like crackers than anything else and was goopy and cold and the lomo saltado was burnt and tasted off. The ceviche was just plain awful undersalted and flavorless. The only positive is the anticuchos de corazon while they came out a bit cold the flavor was great, however i would rather go somewhere else for anticuchos. The service is mediocre at best. I definately wont be coming back. I'm shocked they are still open. read more

So happy theres a Peruvian place so close to my house. My husband is Peruvian and he loves getting the seco de res . It had so much flavor and I get the tallarin verde with salmon. The prices are on the high side but the portions are large so it's worth it. I remember when this restaurant was in a small spot off bellflower and glad to see they were able to get a larger space. I came here one day and I ordered a torta. I had to stand there for about 5 minutes because nobody wanted to attend me. When they finally attended me I ordered my food and waited another 10 minutes. The food came and when I saw it, it was missing the jalapeños and avocado. I told them and they said it didn't come with any. What the heck!? The menu stated that it had jalapeños and avocado plus the picture of the torta had sliced avocado AND sliced jalapeños. I told them and the lady that attended me had to send another worker to do it in the back because she didn't want to get me any. They probably spit in it :/ needless to say I didn't eat the avocado. I wish I could give 0 stars to this place. I ate here Wednesday April 23, 2014. I should have left once I realized that no one else was inside. I got food poisoning. I had a meatball soup which tasted good and then I had the Pollo de Saltado which did not taste good at all. Amazing restaurant. Great service. Very much like an authentic Peruvian feel. All plates are delicious and you should really try the sauces that are on the table. I was here for an event thought it was cool that they had a side where they sold desserts all these Hispanic ones like Nieves, esquities and fruit. Since it was an event I knew that it would be busy and take long. It took for me to ask for a menu to get help, I ordered tallarin verdes the only thing I eat at a Peruvian restaurant. She came back 30-40 mins later to bring me the wrong order. She kept insisting that it was what I ordered but I showed her the picture and said tallarin verde she even asked if it was milanese that I asked for I said yes. She brought me lomo a saltado nothing close to tallarin verde. Music started by the Time she brought it and couldn't hear that I didn't order that finally my bff was closer to her so she told her and still wanted to leave me with that. I would of taken it if I really wanted that but I wanted pasta. Finally she said ok gave me a dirty look I was trying to keep my cool as much as possible but she was so rude just so they made my other plate good without spitting on my food or anything like that. But she still had that dirty look in her face. She came back an hour later with my food and the pasta was great but the milanesa had no taste at all it was bland. I tasted better elsewhere I even make better milanesa. I ordered the Ron con pasas Ice cream that was really yummy and sweet. The bionico in this place is nothing close to a mexican bionico. The amount and quality of fruit you get is a joke. You guys might wanna learn the bionico business and try to atleast incorporate that to your bionico business. I also ordered the vanilla raspado and to be honest i spent 13 bucks on both things and i threw both of them away after the first taste.
