Alright alright so here we go. It's been a while since I've had to do something like this, and it saddens me that it must now be done to a restaurant at our family-loved Walt Disney World Resort. However, in the spirit of common human decency, I feel it is my duty to warn other innocent families of the impending disappointment and doom that lurks unassumingly beneath the neon sign of Chef Mickey's. Sure, as you approach the restaurant off of the escalator, you may be fooled into thinking you're about to have an enjoyable and quality meal. But my friend, oh my dear foolish innocent friend, would you be wrong. Dead wrong. I will start by ensuring that I clear the name of the servers and characters involved in the night in question. They are henceforth absolved of any blame. The main reason that this is hands-down the worst dining experience in Disney World, and possibly the country, is entirely based on what they call "the food." We ate offerings from what I believe to be the former cook at the local Orlando general hospital. The quality of the food they served me reminded me of the same taste profile and quality of food I begrudgingly put down my gullet during my week-long hospital stay. In fact, Chef Mickey's food would've been right at home on a rolling tray next to an I.V. stand. Nearly everything we ate was God awful with zero redeeming qualities, but I'll do a rapid fire rundown while stifling back my vomit as my brain, stomach, and tastebuds recall the horrors of that evening. The 3 salads had zero taste. The potato gratin was very bland. The Turkey was just ok. The prime rib was 90% fat and poorly seasoned. Then, as if robbing us blind in exchange for awful food wasn't enough, Disney just couldn't take their score and make a clean getaway in peace. Nope. They decided to present us with a final F You: Their dessert plate. Featuring: a stale, dry, tart shell with what tasted like store-bought apple sauce. A tiny strawberry cake that would lose in a blind taste test to Little Debbie. And for the grand finale? A small dollop of chocolate moose on an Oreo. No, I am not kidding. The culinary equivalent of laughing in my face. Now, if I strain hard enough and try to suppress my rage, I guess I could scrounge up a few positive things? Not sure, but here goes. The quality of gnocchi was pretty good. Not too gummy and it was tender. The sauce it was in was just ok. Finally, the sauce on the salmon was probably and sadly the best part of the meal. It was tangy, sweet, and vibrant. Unfortunately, it rested atop a piece of dry and overcooked salmon. Now, please keep in mind this place has the gall to charge $55 a person. Disney loves to turn you upside down and shake you until your wallet is empty, which I expect going in. However, I also expect SOME value in return. I wouldn't walk into a brothel, hand over $500, and get kicked in the cajones only to leave with a smile and a pair of magic ears. Well, Chef Mickey did just that. Except I didn't leave with magic ears. Or a smile. I simply couldn't believe the poor quality of food that was served at this insane price point. With tip, I dropped about $140. I could've had a great meal upstairs at California Grill for that price. I guess one brightspot is they didn't charge for my son because of his age. Anyway, to make matters worse, the next day we ate another character breakfast at Toppolino (review coming soon) and that was an absolute homerun experience put forth by Disney. Everything about that meal was incredible. And it was $20 less than the prison food we ate at Chef Mickey. So, do yourselves a favor if you're looking for a character dining: go to Toppolino. If that's booked, go somewhere else. No, literally anywhere else than Chef Mickey's. Unless you want to pay a premium price to eat food that was so bad I wish we prayed BEFORE we ate, I can't urge you strongly enough to skip this restaurant. It tastes to me like it's time to fire our boy Mickey if he's the chef back there putting out these plates. (These are just my subjective opinions Disney please don't sue me ) read more

My first point I wish to express in this review is that I feel that the current family style method of dining is a vast improvement over the non-pandemic method I have previously experienced. With that being said, my family are here during our first ever holiday trip to WDW. We had previously dined here in June 2019, and we did not enjoy it. The food was standard breakfast buffet fare and the service was severely lacking. During the two and half hour experience we saw the characters once at a distance. Overall maybe 2 stars. This past December however, with the family style service and the social distancing rules in place, we could not have been happier. The service was excellent. We were given ample amounts of all of our favorites, never had to ask for a drink refill, and the character interactions were much more to my liking. In reference to the characters, since they cannot come to you for hugs and high-5's they stand near by and interact with the families through gestures and body language. My kids are it up. I think we had some of our best photos of the trip. In conclusion, the food was great, we didn't have to stand in line for it, the service was on point, and the atmosphere was absolutely what I was hoping for. I think Chef Mickey's is and excellent choice for breakfast to load up before a long, fun day at the parks. read more

Character meals are great for kids, but the food is a last consideration at some locations. We enjoyed the photo time at table with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and Donald. Dinner tonight was very salty (carving station steak was inedible), basic low-end typical family meal choice offerings (surprised no mac and cheese), buffet selections were not as well maintained and replenished as frequently as other buffet style meals on property (Cape May Cafe and 1900 Park Faire), decor was outdated, family bathroom within restaurant is very small and located in a narrow basement-like location. Seemed to have an abundance of wait/service/character support staff in attendance, but not enough people working on the food presentation, replenishment, and quality control. Kids were putting their fingers in displayed desserts, helping themselves sloppily to food on buffet, and running all around bumping into each other. Hoping Disney redesigns the flow of patrons at buffet, to a wider floor space area with better access. read more

I've done Chef Mickey's both pre COVID and twice during COVID. Breakfast is absolutely the best time here. I am thrilled that the characters are back, Mickey and his pals come near your table and it's a good photo opportunity. There are no longer people running all over the place while the characters are out or while you are grabbing food. The wait staff brings you a generous portion of breakfast goodies - waffles/eggs/banana bread French toast/breakfast meats (literally a pound of bacon) and some cheese hash. We also had donuts and sweet rolls to start. It is still all you can eat and the staff was very attentive if we needed anything. Definitely a must do! read more

60 days out from our arrival, I woke up and raced to the computer to score dining reservations for our Disney trip. The kids love the fab 5 ( Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Donald) so I booked Chef Mickeys's. We drove over to the Contemporary and the friendly security guard verified our reservation. We were let into the property and parked in the huge outdoor lot. We went inside and took the escalator up to the fourth floor and made our way to the reservation desk. Our table was ready when we got there. We watched the monorails drive through the hotel while we walked to our table. It was an awesome site to see. After being seated our waiter and waitress team approached the table and took our drink order and gave us the run down. We came pre-Covid and enjoyed the restaurant but life after Covid made this restaurant family style dining. This meant that they brought the food to you. You could order as much as you wanted but they served it to you. No problem. In fact this worked out better as this allowed us to not chase our children around as we went up for food but allowed us to spend more time with the characters and not miss because of attempting to get the food. Our drinks were never empty as the refills kept coming. The food was hot and we asked for multiple servings and without hesitation it came out lightning quick. It's just not what it used to be. The new "family style" service ruined it for me. Lots of wasted food, and the quality's gone way down. The best protein on the menu now are the kids chicken tenders. The soda tasted watered down.. and the waiter was monotone borderline rude that just didn't seem like he wanted to be here. The only good thing about the entire experience was our children getting to meet the characters. The price is absolutely absurd.. over $300 for a family of 5 (3 kids ages 9-15) and two adults. Chef Mickey's is in the Contemporary Resort at Disney. It's buffet style. We came for dinner on a Wednesday. The primary purpose of going to Chef Mickey's is for the character experience. The restaurant's design is dated and feels cramped. It's maximizes tables so everything feels close together and a little claustrophobic. It's very popular given its been around for awhile. The food is 'ok', there's a carving station, salad bar, ample deserts, focaccia and other breads an east asian food station with noodles and orange chicken etc., This is another location that's great about allergies though which is a common theme amongst Disney restaurants. The chef came out and with confidence was able to say that the kids section of the buffet was safe and contained so less chance of cross contamination. Additionally they brought out a specially made dessert of brownies and cookies for my daughter that were egg, sesame, nut free (and she loved it). Finally the characters were all very friendly and despite how many people were there visited every table. We were able to see Donald, Goofy, Pluto and Minnie. After the meal you are able to meet Mickey. They are all dressed in Chef's clothes. Overall, while this isn't the best designed place and there are better character meals (like Tusker House) if you want your kids to meet characters and have a safe meal this isn't bad. Oh, it's also pretty expensive considering the food but you'll pay it and your kids will thank you. Separately, I have heard breakfast is pretty good here. read more

At one point in time I lived in Orlando. Since moving away, I visit multiple times a year. Good grief, I used to WORK at Disney and I've never done a character dining experience. Chef Mickey's came recommended from several friends who are more well-versed in the world of character dining and it certainly didn't disappoint. All of the food is available buffet-style but all of the clichés about buffets need to fly out of the window. This isn't aisles upon aisles of stale food. The food is fresh and many have stations that are made to order such as the omelet station or the carving station. There's a variety of food depending on your tastes and there's definitely something for everyone. My friends and I did the brunch - which was a great marriage of both breakfast and lunch. They had breakfast staples such as scrambled eggs, waffles, and bacon - but also had lunch options such as macaroni and cheese, casseroles, and chicken tenders. They have an entire station of nothing but sweets and an ice cream sundae bar. You get time with the characters - which is cute and you have the opportunity to take pictures. I think it's even sweeter to watch some of the reactions of the kids to the characters. They're in complete awe. The price is steep ($60) and it's definitely not something you want to do often - but it was worth a splurge for our trip. A reservation is required, so don't attempt to walk in and expect to be seated. Chef Mickey's in incredibly popular and I'm not sure they accept walk-ins at all. read more

How have I not written a review of Chef Mickey's before? I've been coming to Chef Mickey's for years! Chef Mickey's is the first and original character dining option on Walt Disney World property. I have a picture of me with the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland from Chef Mickey's in about 1987 or so. I have been to Chef Mickey's for breakfast and dinner. I recommend breakfast because it is less expensive and you get all of the same great character experiences. However, you are also missing the best ride time at the park if you go to breakfast, so it depends on what your priorities are. I would say this is my second favorite character breakfast on property because Tusker House has a few African inspired dishes that I like, but it is my favorite character dinner. It is my favorite character dinner because they have lots of options with regard to food, and you get the original fab 5 characters: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. I like 1900 Park Fare about equal. I've never been happy with the food at Crystal Palace. I am also less impressed with the food at Akershus and Cinderella's Royal Table, but I'm a totally girly girl who loves all things princess so if you have someone like that in your life, then those are not to be missed. On this most recent occasion my boyfriend and I went for breakfast. Like most Disney breakfast buffets they had my favorite breakfast item, the kid size Mickey waffle. I don't know what Disney does to make these things so good and so addictive, but I cannot get enough of them. I have considered grabbing a whole plate of them and just eating the ears. The ears are the best part. They are crispy and perfect and I love them. They also have fruit and cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is a staple breakfast item for me. It is a way to eat some protein in the morning. They also have bacon, eggs, sausage, tater tots, pancakes, blintzes, and cereal. Just a heads up: like all Disney sit-down dining, you should make a reservation between two to six months (!) in advance. The food here is nothing special.... but that's not really what you are here for, is it? You're here for the "fab five" characters- Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck, who WILL visit your table at Chef Mickey's! Each character visits on their own, so you're not rushed and you have time for pictures with each one. Chef Mickey's is a great restaurant pick for Disney first-timers. I was never too keen on interacting with strangers in fluffy suits, but the characters at Chef Mickey's changed my mind. They put me at ease with their friendly body language, were cute, fun, and just adorable. It can be tough to see characters at Disney, so just book Chef Mickey's and get it out of the way so you can do other things at the parks. You do pay for the privilege ($50 per person buffet), but it's worth it in my opinion. read more

This was the most filling food I had on the Disney property. The breakfast was endless and so were the drinks. Waitresses kept coming to check on guests and fill up their table. It used to be a buffet before the pandemic so that's why we cannot get up and walk around. If you come with a big party unfortunately they will have to separate you due to social distancing guidelines. They separated my party of 8 and a baby at two different tables. The character aspect was fun and they had a cute jingle for Chef Mickey. 10/10 will go again after the pandemic. read more

It took me 25 years to get to a character breakfast, CHEF MICKEY'S IS THE SHIT. Besides the delicious buffet (get the croissant and put gravy on it), the characters were adorable in their chef gear. Yeah it's a little pricey for breakfast (roughly $30), but IT'S DISNEY WORLD. Were you expecting a dollar menu or cheap prices while on vacation? C'Mon y'all, you must budget the food experience into your trip. We had reservations for 10am, and were pleasantly filled until our dinner reservations at 'Ohana. Thus giving us more time to go around the parks and not have to stop for lunch. Will be back, gotta get more mickey waffles with berries. read more

We are not the strangers at Chef Mickey's. We are lucky enough to get the reservation here every time we visit Disney World. This most likely to be my last time. We were actually sitting at the perfect seats next to the window facing west. So we watched the sunsetting over the Magic Kingdom and the lights gradually went up. It was amazing. The same amazing part was my kids meeting the characters they love. However, I really didn't enjoy the food. I paid a bunch for five of us so I expected something I'd really like. There were a whole lot to choose from but they are just OK food. Kids ate pizza and corns. Will think twice to come here for our next Disney trip. For parents with young kids, this is a place to get the picture and signatures from Mickey and pals without queuing up for a long time. read more

Our server was lovely. The food was ok not anything to write home about. My husband did enjoy the pineapple/sriracha ham. It's your typical buffet. In Disney kids 9 and over are considered adults even though they don't eat like them. I wish they would revise this. The price for my 5 year old that eats hardly anything was crazy! They only thing that was good is the kids enjoyed seeing all the characters. They all stopped by signed and took pictures. It is very loud and crazy though but hey, that's Disney! I'm knocking off 2 stars because we had to wait a bit after our reservation time, the food wasn't the greatest and I wish the kids had a bit more time with each character. My family and I had the opportunity to enjoy the dining experience at Chef Mickey's and it didn't disappoint...! From the moment you arrive at the Contemporary Resort, everything's like clockwork. Upon our arrival at Chef's Mickey, I didn't expect a line since we had made reservations; but as I was informed, the line was for the guests with reservations but it moved rather quickly. Disney thinks of everything... as we wait to get seated, there's an eager photographer waiting for us to take family photos with Chef Mickey props. Since it was our first time, my husband and I turned to being kids again and had grins from ear to ear...! Once we were escorted to our table, we are able to see some of the Disney characters in full swing - taking pics, high-fiving the kids and truly coming to life before our eyes. At this point, I didn't know who was more excited - our daughter or us..! Given that it was my first time at the restaurant, I made sure I tried all the different foods available - From the English muffins with salmon to the hand-carved turkey. To my surprise, all of items were just delicious....! But the food couldn't compare to when Chef Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy and Donald came to our table to shake hands and take pics with us. It was truly a remarkable afternoon. For the menu selections, character proximity and ambiance, I didn't find the per person rate unreasonable; and if you're an AP pass holder, there's a discount applied to your bill which is always a plus. We splurged and took our 4 kids and baby to Chef Mickeys for breakfast. The Good: It was a great opportunity to meet the characters. The kids loved giving them high-fives and getting pictures with them. The food was decent and my bacon loving son was in heaven when I told him he could have as much as he wanted. The Bad: the service was awful. Our drinks were filled at the beginning of the meal and never again refilled. Most of them sat empty for over half of the meal despite asking a couple times for refills. The gentlemen who brought us food never asked if he could get us anymore. In fact, he was trying to take our plates when we stopped him and told him he would like more food. We quickly ran out of syrup and asked multiple times for some and it was never replenished. My husband got up and went and found another server finally who got us some. And the really bad thing - because we were a group of 6+ we had an mandatory 18% gratuity tacked onto our bill. I can't help but think the servers mostly ignored us since they knew they were already getting a decent tip. read more

The Disney Disclaimer: Yup. Disney is expensive, overpriced, yada, yada. Chef Mickey's gets my four stars for two reasons: 1. As a non buffet fan I was pleasantly surprised. The food was not stand out amazing, but was very good and far better than average, and I was completely satisfied (more than satisfied, far too easy to overeat is another good reason to generally stay away from buffets). I thought the variety was excellent, we had a large group with two young children and this did provide something for everyone. Fresh fruit, lox and fresh Mickey waffles were all wonderful. 2. Not waiting in too freaking damn long lines, sometimes in the hot sun, to meet adults dressed up in costumes. Sometimes one at a time. Ahem! The kids got to meet all the main classic Disney characters in one location, were delighted and adorable, and we were delighted by their delightful adorableness. I have found memories of coming here as a child for my fourth birthday. Well...maybe not memories per say....but very cute pictures! I was anxious to go here for breakfast on my trip a couple of weeks ago. We went and were seated right away after waiting in a long line to take a picture that we didn't want to. They offered us the picture during our meal in exchange for $30. haha No thanks! The food was standard breakfast fare. I had heard ravings of Pluto's cheese blintzes so had to try them...I don't see the hype on these. I was not a fan. I did enjoy the brownies with frosting. We had some great Disney service. Our waitress was friendly as was another Cast Member who stopped to talk to us about the Bears & Chicago. Disney extravagance at its finest! Yes, it is a character buffet. It is going to be loud. It is going to be crazy. It is going to be expensive. But: it is also going to be FUN so embrace it! Let that inner child out. Be silly, act goofy, let your guard down, get excited to see and take pictures with the characters and it'll be all right. We had dinner here our first night at the resort and it was the perfect kick-off to get us ready to head to the parks in the morning. You MUST get reservations as far in advance as you can. Allow me to reiterate: book advance dining reservations as quickly as you can. You're going to need them. Check in at the front counter and get a buzzer. Then hop in line to get a picture taken with one of the Fab Five (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto) while you wait. Buzzer goes off and it's time to head to your table. This place is big! Your server will get your drink orders, keep said drinks filled, remove dirty plates, etc. Hop up and head to the buffet and get ready to feast! Take note that the buffet has two lines with mirrored image layouts. Chef Mickey's offers it all: a meats and carving station, every veggie, side, pasta, bread/roll, etc you can think of. Now I am a vegetarian so I can't speak for any of the meat dishes but I could rave on and on about all of their veggie options! There was nothing I had here (and full disclosure: I had a lot) that I did not enjoy. Everyone we encountered here, from servers, to chefs, to managers walking the floor were incredibly friendly and customer service focused/driven. It was absolutely incredible. And then there were the characters... All I can say is WOW! They earned their keep while we were there. It was like I was five again. They spent time joking with us, laughing, playing, posing for pictures. We saw each of the five characters several times and every interaction was an absolute joy. We will be returning to Disney this Feb for the Princess 1/2 Marathon Weekend and we already have our reservations for Chef Mickey's. Yes, it's that good, so what are you waiting for? Came here for breakfast and had a good time. It's a fairly standard character dining experience with a buffet. They had the normal options for breakfast, eggs, waffles, and the like. But everything tastes pretty good. Classic characters like Mickey, Donald, and Goofy meet you and of course they're always a blast. Plus they're all dressed up like chefs! When I went they also take a group portrait before you get seated which you can link to your Disney account to view and/or purchase later. Service was on par with the Disney standard. As with most other table service restaurants on property you'll probably need a reservation. But this is a great way to meet all your Disney favorites all at once. read more

A great place to meet all the characters! The food is average....let's face it, people don't come here for the food. We have been here twice and both times we were here for brunch. The first time we went I did not like my food at all. I had breakfast food. It's a double buffet with the same food on both sides. The Mickey shaped macaroni and cheese and tator tots is my favorite....honestly! Their fruit was terrible, not fresh at all. The strawberries were rotten. But again...not here for the food. The service was great! The characters were wonderful but they don't visit for long. Probably about 20-30 seconds per character. They have a lot of tables to visit. This year we sat up high so you have a view of the whole restaurant and you can see the characters better when they are walking around. It's pricey here...but it's worth it for the kids. And this year your table was the lucky table chosen and we received special cupcakes from Minnie! It was really special for the kids! Also....check out the desserts!!! You won't be sorry!!! The display of dessert is always beautiful and every dessert I've ever tried was amazing!!! They have ice cream, brownies, cookies, the list goes on and on. Make a reservation. And if you are there waiting long after your reservation go to the desk they will seat you ASAP. That happened to us both times. This restaurant is located inside of the contemporary resort....it gets busy at chef mickeys....kids everywhere...it gets crazy. Be patient. It's worth it! read more

Disney cheaping out post Covid. This used to be one of my favorite meals for both the food and the experience for kids. This kids still love seeing the Characters but that's where it ends. They have dropped the photographer at the entrance and seem not to have increased the wait staff even though they now serve food. For the price of the meal I'd like a refill on my water and the coffee I ordered to actually show up after requested. It's obvious the servers are just spread way too thin. The food They brought three inedible salads that all tasted like they had been under a heat lamp and all the hot food had obviously spent ample time under a heat lamp. I think this will be our last Chef Mickey visit and this used to be the best character meal, second only to Tusker House. read more

Went here for dinner thru Dolphin Tours. Dinner was very good. Had kid friendly mini corn dogs, Mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, meatballs and pasta. Adults can have halibut over quinoa, short ribs over polenta...and lots of other yummy fixings. Characters come to every table to post for pictures and sign autographs. Be sure to bring your own camera as the Disney folks only take one picture by the entrance statue, all remaining ones are up to you. It is pricy, won't lie about that, but for a once in a lifetime...or every few years trip...it is worth it. My three year old and eight year old thought it was awesome. And in retrospect that is all that matters. Waitstaff is super nice and quick to refill beverages and clear empties. Come here for breakfast! Their food selection during the buffet was so amazing. Such a variety of food to choose from. And their dessert bar, OMG. There's so much to eat and not enough space on the plate! It's so cool how the characters will come over to your table and take pictures with you. You don't have to worry about trying to find them, they will come to you. This is a really cute place to take your kids just for a meal or to celebrate their birthday. read more

We went for dinner. Food was very good. Characters came around. Place could've been cleaner. Overall, we had a fun time, even though a little expensive. We come to Disney 2 to 3 times a year, but this is a once every five year restaurant. read more

Food is on par for a buffet. They know how to take a reservation, but don't k ow how the reservation concept works. We spend a premium amount of money for everything on a Disney Trip, but waiting over 50 minutes kind of makes a reservation useless. I guess 50 minutes is better than hours, but make sure you're not starving before you arrive with a reservation, because you'll keep waiting and waiting and waiting a long time for a table for "ok" food. I give this place 2 stars bc the food is pretty decent. Nice selection. But my problem does not lie with the food. The blonde haired-middle aged worker named, Amanda is who I have a problem with. I visited with my dance team and we were dancing with Donald Duck as apart of the kind of "show" they do every few minutes. And my friend gave Donald Duck a high five so I thought it would fun to do that too. So I tried and the worker named Amanda glared at me and said in a very disrespectful tone, "she's dancing with you all right now" first of all, Donald Duck is a boy. Second of all, what a way to ruin the mood and disrespect customers especially at the "happiest place on earth" I wish people in this world would just be kind but you can't find people like that everywhere. Clearly you shouldn't work at Disney world if you are a sad, depressed woman in the middle of your mid life crisis. read more

Not sure how the price of $54 for breakfast is justified. The eggs and sausages were undercooked. All I had was the tater tots and bacon as I did not like anything else. No taste whatsoever. If your child is over 9 expect to pay $54 for them as well. Will not be returning here again. read more
