My boyfriend and I went last night for our first time to celebrate our anniversary. We were expecting a classy nice atmosphere based off the prices on the menu online. The atmosphere was a little disappointing, minus the ocean view. The tables were so close together and there was a Corona umbrella outside the window. We started with a bottle of wine and house salad. The house salad was so fresh and delicious. We then ordered our meals. I got the Flat Iron and Shrimp special. It was great, minus some fat on my steak. The flavors were delicious tho and so were the roasted potatoes. My boyfriend got the teriyaki salmon. I've never had salmon and tried his for the first time. It was amazing!!!! The teriyaki was so sweet! I loved it! I loved that the waitress told us our order was made to order and it would be about 40 mins. This was perfect for our anniversary because we weren't rushed at all. I wish they had a few more options to choose from. Maybe another chicken or shrimp dish. Overall, great service! We enjoyed it and will go back! read more

Welcome back Chef Mike!!!! We visited the ABG this past Saturday. This is the first time we've been there since Chef Mike's return. What can you say about Chef Mike that hasn't been said already? Extremely talented & creative. Now that Chef Mike is the Owner the menu has undergone some "recreation" and in my opinion is better than it was. Very good variety with a lot of new signature dishes as well as some of your classic ABG dishes that customers have come to love over the years. I had the "Angry Muscles" (special appetizer) and they were amazing (not too spicy) with the rack of lamb that was cooked to perfection (potatoes were a little bland) for $35.00. My wife enjoyed the crab bisque with the ABG sampler (which for those of you have never been there before is a two person appetizer if you order it on your own). What i did like was the introduction of the Tapas plates and also now the option for soup or salad included with the Signature Dishes. New outdoor dining for light lunch and drinks is a plus. New trendy decor and some very South Beach type ideas makes for a new dining experience. Staff was very attentive, friendly and skilled. I would very much love to rate 5 stars & it if I could rate another half of star I would. But of course I base my review on overall experience and not just food. My only negatives are it is still a very noisy dining experience. This has not changed over the years. And it's still a bit on the pricey side. Three appetizers, one Signature dish & 5 drinks (bretween the two of us) with no desert ran us around $170.00 (WITH tip). You get beat up a bit on drinks and the wine list is not nearly as vast as it was last year. Personally, I don't mind paying for good food so it was worth it to me. But it might scare some people off and would definitely not make it a place most people could frequent on a weekly basis. Overall though I am extremely satisifed and will definitely be back a couple more times this summer. read more

There are not many restaurants in NJ with beach views....ABG is one of them. Came here recently with family and had a great overall experience. They have indoor and outdoor (covered) seating....the wait was 1 hr for inside but for some reason there were tables available outside so we took advantage. The food was some of the best we've eaten in the area. We started with the sampler platter which everyone enjoyed (came with 3 different dipping sauces), and I had an incredible 14 oz NY strip steak for dinner. Everyone loved their meals and the service was great. My wife ordered a salad and even that was substantial and plated nicely. I tasted someone else's salmon and that was delicious too. We also shared a few desserts which were all excellent. The people next to us ordered the scallops which were huge and looked amazing so I'm planning on ordering them next time. This is one of the most expensive restaurants on the barrier island with most entrees in the $30's-$40's, so be forewarned. They even have a golf cart that picks you up and brings you to and from the parking lot (free of charge)! The food is delicious and the portions are large so you feel like you are getting your money's worth. We'll be back again soon. read more

We were one minute away from the restaurant and we get a call our reservation is canceled. Ok it's raining I get it but I have never been there so I didn't know that was the policy. Wasn't sure if they had tents or any coverage for rain. I expressed disappointment as I should and the girl on the phone had absolutely no customer service skills. Not even an "I'm sorry." Just rude and unprofessional. I work in a restaurant and actually have friends who are very close with chef Mike and they highly recommended this place. We were so excited. A restaurant like this should re evaluate who they put up at the front. This sets the tone for what to expect for the rest of the experience. In one of the nicest places on the island in a place that also has one of the most gorgeous views it was my first time here and Knowing full well they did not take any reservations for parties of six or more Me and my cousin prepared to wait at the bar and have a few cocktails which is exactly what we did. Place many years ago was the top of the mast now it has become one of those most popular hi am restaurants on the island. Only seating about 80 inside with an outside patio area as well it certainly has the locals and tourists waiting. Two of us arrive this evening at around 730 and I will wait was just over one hour. Good drinks at the bar and on we go to our table which was a high top dress of the bar area with a beautiful view of the ocean. Menu is heavy on seafood with some steaks and chops as well though their appetizers are certainly something you don't want to miss. Wine was the diverse with great choices of whites and reds by the glass. We split a couple of appetizers the heirloom tomatoes with fresh buffalo mozzarella topped with procutto drizzled with balsamic vinegar. These were very good except the tomatoes could have been much richer in color especially since it is the tail end of the Jersey tomato season. The real winner was the lump crab cake with real chunks of crab meat on a bed of coleslaw. Your choice of a house salad and Cesar accompanied your entrées both were good. First Entree was tonight special which was the red snapper and a lemon butter white wine sauce this was absolutely fresh tasty and outstanding. Second was a 12 ounce New York strip that came with the small potatoes and roasted asparagus. Steak was good quality and very tasty little overcooked almost medium well when it was ordered medium rare. No dessert or coffee were tried and Jacqueline our waitress was on point all night. All in all a very good experience probably more of a 3 1/2 star certainly not four or five. But still a great place to have dinner on the island I certainly would repeat. read more

Our server was excellent and their wine and drink selections were great. I went to Atlantic Grill last night with some family members. I honestly never knew this place existed. Now that I know, I will definitely be back! We had a bit of a wait (it was a Saturday night in the summer, after all). While we waited, we enjoyed some drinks from the [very busy, too-crowded-to-sit] bar. My martini was perfectly concocted. It was really delicious! I ordered the crab cakes. Our server (whose name I do not remember - probably due to the second delicious martini) was attentive and helpful. She helped me decide between the barumundi special and the crab cakes. I chose the crab cakes at her suggestion and I'm glad I did. They were the best I've ever had! Plus, I was able to swap the asparagus for mixed veggies - which were also yummy. The crab was flaky, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. It had a lovely drizzled sauce - not too much. Not greasy, not crunchy - delightful. The fluffy rice was the perfect accompaniment. The only negative to this place is how awkwardly laid out it is - not to mention the awkward approach - basically through a motel and past partying tourists still in their beach finery. To get around the restaurant and out to the veranda, you have to navigate back to the front door and around. Since the bar was packed (and not much room to stand there), when we weren't trying to get outside when waiting for a table, we were always in the way. The food here was AMAZING and well worth every penny! The wait here on the weekends is outrageous so I'd really recommend making reservations. I had a party of 5 on a Friday night without reservations and the wait was 2 hours. The wait wasn't that bad as we were allowed to walk on the beach and go to the bar in the meantime. The food is consistently very good and the seafood is fresh. Try getting there before dark to get a view of the ocean over the dunes. I always enjoy the live music playing in the back corner by the bar. My one complaint is that some of the entrees are very heavy (either because of the sauces or fried toppings). For $30-40 entrees, I'm sure the chef wants to make sure the customer is completely full, but I'd rather not have the delicate fish flavors covered up with thick, cream-based sauces. My recommendation is to sit at the bar order a few appetizers or off the raw bar instead of sitting down at a table. Each offers a different dining experience, but I prefer the more casual approach. We had no idea we would be sitting in the sand and wished there had been some tiki torches, bistro lights, lemon grass, etc. There is potential to create a nicer ambience. This idiot did not mention that the wait for a couple at "dinner time" would be 2 hours! I am very particular about my calamari. I have to say this has been the best thus far! Everything has been an extremely pleasant experience from the service and the food. Wine Choice suggested by the waitress was amazing the view of the ocean sets the mood. I came here with my husband and three children this restaurant was all that too accommodating for my family. Cannot rave more about this delicious selection suggested by a friend. If you are in the area looking for good Seafood & Steak this is the place to be. Desert was right on point. I think I found my new favorite restaurant. Our waitress has been running around, this restaurant is extremely busy time of the food and service has been impeccable. I just plain didn't like this place. Cheap food with a cheap ambiance at an expensive price. Looks like you are walking into a janitors closet off the hostess stand but it's actually the restaurant. Our waitress was nice and did a good job but unfortunately not enough to make up for the dive bar atmosphere. Chef Mike's Atlantic Bar and Grill is awesome! We went there years ago for private party and it was good. Decided to go for dinner based on the rave reviews. It did not disappoint! If you're looking for dinner with a view - this is the place. Great ocean views and outdoor seating. You can see it from bar area too. Food was very tasty. We started with ABG Hot Sampler ($22) consisting of two crab cakes, calamari, dumplings, and shrimp. Everything was delicious. Each came with accompanying sauces. Hubby had the Seafood Mix Grill ($48) he said it was very good and tasty. I had the 5 peppercorn ahi tuna ($38) - too was very good. My only complaint is the noodles and sauce that came with were very salty. I had a house Chardonnay and hubby had beer and a port. For two of us came to $121, excluding tip. Our server was excellent - what you'd expect at a place like this. We hung around afterwards at the bar and had another drink. Not a cheap night out but worth it. Ok first off it's not cheap. Typical entree is $25 to $35 but it's incredibly worth it. Second, the portions may look small but they are VERY filling, (yes emphasize on the very). I've never left without a bag to go from my dinner and I usually finish what I order at most places. It's basically like a small upscale tucked-away New York restaurant transplanted on the barrier beach. If that's what you enjoy, you'll like it. My girlfriend and I have been here twice now and my meal was great both times. On our last visit we tried the short rib appetizer which was incredible...I love short ribs though so I may be a little bias. For dinner I had the sea bass and she had the salmon special. Both were cooked perfectly and the portions were plenty big enough for the both of us. The entrees are expensive but worth it, you're not going to find quality like this at many places in the area. Same goes with the drinks, they're expensive but they tend to make them strong which for me is a major plus. Don't be surprised if there's a bit of a wait, especially in season. The restaurant is surprisingly small inside, however there is an outside area which is nice if it's not too windy. The bar can be a little crowded too... also a small area. There's standing room outside on the deck though, although it's not a deck with a nice view since most of it is behind the restaurant by a motel. This is one of the only complaints I have, and this area also serves as the main entrance of the restaurant which is a bit awkward. Overall I love the food here and service has always been good as well. Don't expect a cheap meal, entrees tend to be around $30 and with drinks and an app you'll be spending at least $100 for a dinner for two. read more

I was fortunate enough to recently attend a group event at Chef Mike's ABG and what a treat it was. I had not done any research or been to this establishment before so I went in as a total open book. The service was good although it did seem that in the beginning they were a bit understaffed but nothing to serious. Our group started with a cold assortment of oysters and clams then followed by the sampler of calamari, shrimp tempura and dumplings; again this was a real winner. The variety was fantastic and the sauces were delicious. For the main course I enjoyed their Bone-in Cowboy Ribeye, ordered med-rare it came out to perfection. My Fiancée enjoyed shrimp pasta that was filled with plump shrimp and a creamy yet light sauce. Chef Mike's ABG is definitely a special place down the shore. read more

Chef Mike's ABG is right next door to where we lodged so we tried it out of convenience and we were not disappointed!! We ordered the crab cake for an appetizer and it was delicious. The entire cake was crab meat, not heavily fried, and loaded with lots of flavor on a bed of greens. I ordered the lobster and shrimp squid ink linguine which was super tasty. The shrimp and lobster were moist and the dish was more than enough for dinner. My fiancé had the filet mignon medallions and it was cooked perfectly to his liking. We absolutely love ABG. It is our favorite restaurant in Ocean County. Tonight I ordered the house salad which was light yet delicious. My husband started with crispy calamari. For dinner I had the lobster tail special which came with garlic mashed potatoes and spinach. It was amazing. My husband had the barbecue pork chop on the restaurant week menu with mashed sweet potatoes and onion rings. We both were in heaven as we devoured the apple crisp and lava molten cake. We frequent Chef Mike's Atlantic Bar & Grill at least once a week during the summer months and several times during the off season . Great views of the beach and Atlantic Ocean (located right on the sand dunes in Seaside Park), great food for the area, have not been disappointed yet. Service is good as well. Only thing that needs to be mentioned is how off point their hostess service is. By giving such inaccurate long wait times it discourages customers from staying and they go elsewhere. The wait almost always turns out to be less than half of their given estimate. Hopefully they can improve this. On a final note, as other reviewers mention, the appetizer sampler platter is excellent. We greatly enjoy Chef Mike's and will definitely continue to dine here. read more

This was probably the best food and service I've had in a LONG time. Our waitress Michele was absolutely amazing. Welcoming, accommodating and most of all pleasant. She made sure our drinks were full and she checked in on us multiple times to assure we had a a great experience. Our appetizer ( fried calamari and steamed clams ) we're AMAZING. my husband ordered king crab, literally it was the best I've ever had. i got The cowboy rib eye and it was cooked to perfection.
