    Seafood fries

Amazing food I found this gem online while looking for good food options. This did not disappoint at all. The shrimp and fries were fried to perfection. The sauce on top was a added bonus to this order. You can not go wrong ordering this off the menu. The service was great and the ambiance in the restaurant was very chill, and laid back I loved it. I definitely will be back. Order the seafood fries. I also ordered the crab fried rice baby it's a hit, I added yum yum sauce on it and yes ma'am it's hitting. Both you can not go wrong with on the menu.

Fried shrimp. Look at the batter on that... *chefs kiss*

I got the fried shrimp and it was amazing. This place reminds me of Sam's Eatery in Louisiana with how they cook their shrimp. One bite, and it took me all the way back home. I'll be back!!!

She and I have bought brim, oysters, crab and shrimp. On our most recent trip it was local shrimp to make a gumbo. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, prices are decent and the selection good. There's always a line of people looking for the freshest selection at opening , which says a lot about the market. If I lived here, this would be my go-to seafood market.

To be honest I wasn't hunting for fresh fish, rather I was making Jambalaya and I was craving Boudin to go with it. I called ahead to make sure they had some and the employee was very nice and while they offer many varieties, I wanted pork and rice. They took my name on Friday ensuring it would be available on Monday, which it was. Upon entering the none assuming establishment which I wasn't anticipating it in a strip mall, not that it's an issue as it's a safe area, but I was expecting a free standing establishment for some reason. The two people in there were very nice and quick to greet me. It took a minute for my eyes to lift up from the display case stuffed full of a plethora of seafood. To be honest I last lived in Charleston in 2000 and spent the rest of my life in Kansas City and Austin. Fresh seafood, especially from a dedicate monger was hard to find so it was a reestablishing my roots. H&J has not only the freshest seafood available this far inland, but plenty of cooking accessories including spices, sauces and accompaniments for all your needs. Back to the display case, blue shell crabs, oysters, clams, shrimp, scallops and more fish than I can label were all wonderfully presented as if it was a snapshot in time of the best they had to offer. If only my menu had planned for this, I would have indulged in breaking my wallet. Alas, I told the nice young lady I was the guy who called in the boudin, which she indicated to look behind me. In the free-standing fridges, I grabbed my prize while I pondered some of their other bounty. Focus...I had to maintain focus! To give a short review on the boudin, it sucked. This is a subjective point, one that I compare with many other versions I've gotten from Louisiana companies that specialize in Cajun Boudin. First there was some off-putting spice in it one that struck me odd. I texture was ok but I didn't like it. Again, I don't hold this against H&J b/c first it's a subjective matter and second it was packaged and shipped in. To wrap up, I've found my fish monger and I will be going back. I know writing a review of a seafood market while only purchasing a pork product seems disingenuous, I grew up in Charleston and was a chef, one can "smell out" frauds and this isn't a subpar place. The people are nice, the seafood fresh and the quality is the best you get unless you know someone with a boat. Drop on by if you need any sort of seafood products!

Traveling for work and was looking for good New Orleans cooking, I found it here…read more I stopped for lunch, got hear right as the doors opened and the place was full by the time we got our drinks, good sign. Service was friendly and attentive, good atmosphere. The food only topped off the good first impression. For appetizers we got gator bites ( seasoning was so good they didn't even need sauce) second was the Andui and shrimp Mac & Cheese (amazing) I could have just eaten these and been satisfied. The shrimp and crayfish porboy was large and tasted so good, man the seasoning on the fries was so good. The batter on the fish was amazing as well. We left with food to spare and already planning on what we will get next time we're in town. And only 15min from the airport. Great job Lola!!

The crawfish was cooked well and had great flavor. The only thing we noticed was they were a bit juicy--we think they may not have soaked in the boil as long, which usually helps absorb more flavor. My husband really enjoyed them (this trip was mostly for him!), but they were a little spicy for me. I ended up getting a Caesar salad with fried crawfish tails instead, and it was huge--I only made it through about half. We also got margaritas during happy hour--both were really good. I had the lychee margarita, and my husband got the mango with a Cajun rim. Service was very good--our waiter was attentive and friendly. The only small downside was that we did feel a little rushed. It does say on the menu that they ask guests not to stay longer than 1.5 hours, so just something to keep in mind. They are pet-friendly, and we sat outside. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and the tables had umbrellas, which was nice. The only other thing we weren't thrilled about was the credit card surcharge--it was around 3-3.5%, which feels a bit high, especially since most people don't carry cash anymore. Overall, a great spot--especially if you're a crawfish fan!

I would change the name because the name suggests they have oysters only and it turns out there is more, not a whole lot but enough for a non oysterholic to come in and have something to eat while you chug an ale or one of the shots with a slimy thing in it I got to try a shot of something that tasted like bloody Mary's mix with an oyster inside, I felt the slimy thing going down the hatch and later ordered a dozen or so oysters Parmesan, cooked taste a little like scallops, not bad and I could go back and try something else The calamari was ok, not as great as I can make them if I had a fryer with a thermostat, the batter was a little too thick and I tend to like them with a see through batter not a filler, it was crunchy ok but maybe a little overcooked and not a lot of people know that calamari should be flash fried for about a minute and if you go beyond that is like the Michelin man The place is fun and be prepared for a loud environment because it is small but go with an open mind and it is a nice different experience I will go back and try their fish and chips

I was told to seat myself at the bar, I guess because I was by myself, but instead of the bartender taking my order like is normal when you are seated at the bar, a server came by and stood next to me to take my order and explain the menu. I ordered the Weekend Special (it's call that, but you can order it at any time, same for the other specials), hush puppies, and sausage. One thing very different here is they cook the food in a plastic bag with a sauce mixed in, so you pick a sauce at the time of order. Service was fast and friendly. I don't want to get anyone in trouble by going into detail, but some of the people behind the bar were pretty unprofessional. Not to me directly or to customers, but the conversations employees were having should have been done somewhere not in front of customers. Hush puppies were both sweet and savory which I like. Shrimp, potatoes, and crab came out done well. Lobster tail was tough and rubbery. The sausage was fine, tasted like Hillshire Farms or an equivalent which is fairly meh to me but I know lots of folks like that. I really did not care for the food being cooked in the sauce. I had some in Cajun and some in garlic and butter, and it was just too heavy for me. I really just like me seafood bare and dip it in some melted butter and lemon pretty lightly, so having a few cups of sauce in each bag of food was just way too much for my tastes. This is a personal preference thing so I am not knocking stats for it, but I didn't care for this style (plus it was super messy), and I don't want all the extra calories from a sauce. Price was pretty good for the amount of food I had. J.Ja

I went here last night on a whim since my kids weren't with me this weekend (my son doesn't care for seafood). I had the Charleston seafood steamed pot and added sausage. Staff was friendly and good came out fast! Everything tasted fine too. Maybe it's just that I was there my myself, and every other time I go to the one in Folly I have been with my girlfriend or friends or my kids, or the lack of a live band, and there is something just FUN about sitting around a big pot of steaming shellfish peeling shrimp and cracking crabs and prying oysters open, or maybe I was just worn out by the week and in a little slump from some personal stuff, or being inside in the winter instead of outside when it's nicer, but I just didn't feel the same "this is really nice" that I get in Folly. All the same the food was just as good, service was good, and it's nice to have a seafood option right by my house that isn't a big hassle to get to. J.Ja

It was a party of about 30 and our server, runners, and kitchen staff were all fantastic! She used their handheld POS to place all of our drink, appetizers, and dinners and everything came out perfect. I got the salmon off the specials menu and picked collards and cheesy grits as my sides. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was a gigantic piece that I brought home and had leftovers with numerous times. As for the sides. The collards needed more vinegar which I easily fixed when I reheated them at home. And the grits tasted like water. So I also reheated them with milk and butter and was able to bring them to life at home too. I tried the buffalo shrimp and hush puppies. I would go back and order those two things and be 100% satisfied! With large parties splitting checks can be a process, but luckily the birthday girls husband picked up the tab for everyone and we were on our way, Full and Happy!!
