Stopped in today on a whim. Might have something to do with me forgetting to defrost food for dinner. For the Tasty Crab Special (1/2 lb shrimp, 1 snow crab cluster, lobster tail, 2 ears of corn, 2 potatoes, 2 eggs) and added 1/2 lb of sausage. It was too much food for me, and I knew it would be but I always want to try everything at these places. I had it Cajun sliced to mild. Food came out fast and service was friendly. The seafood was nicely cooked, even the lobster tail which is often overcooked at these places. The potatoes and corn were overcooked but I don't care too much about that Cajun spice was good. I'm still not the biggest fan of seafood boil, I really prefer steamed, but that is a personal preference. As far as boil goes, this is one of the better ones I have had. Inside it isn't much, but there's some real personality from all of the writing on the walls. But let's be honest you come to one of these places to chow down on seafood while wearing a plastic bin and vinyl gloves, it isn't a place you come to in your Sunday best. I tried going to a couple other seafood places and they were both closed. I had seen Tasty Crab under Hot and New on Yelp and figured I'd give it a go. I have to say, at first glance, this place doesn't seem like much. It's up Rivers in a huge chain shopping plaza tucked in between a Hobby Lobby and a chinese buffet. There was one of those flailing arm inflatables outside like a car dealership for their grand opening. Getting inside isn't much better. It's set up like a sea shanty theme restaurant with light wood all over, captains wheels, and fishing net. Plus, you can write all over the walls with magic marker to give it that real touristy feel although you're nowhere near the beach. Stick with me now because everything so far screams touristy sub-par dining experience, but this is where things took a turn towards the positive. They do have fried seafood and such, but I saw the boil bags on every table and knew that was the direction to go in. We decided to go sharesies and get a combo with a pound of snow crab, a pound of shrimp (heads off), and a half pound of sausage. In the bag you also get corn on the cob and chunks of potato. We chose the garlic butter seasoning with a mild spice level (I would like to try hotter but I was sharing so we toned it down). Our server assured us this would be enough food and brought out our bucket of goodies. Inside you'll find wet naps, claw crackers, bibs, and plastic gloves. Things were about to get messy. The steaming hot bag was dropped on the table pretty quickly and it was go time! I immediately sampled some sausage and potato to test the seasoning and it was swimming in garlic butter. We instantly divied up the crab as there was one cluster each in the bag. I often find that you'll get three in a cluster, but these were pretty big. They were also cooked perfectly allowing you to easily access all the nooks and crannies of meat instead of it sticking to the shell. Everything else in the bag was more than plentiful and seemed to have no end it sight. Eventually I was about to throw in the towel, but there wasn't enough to take with us and honestly it's a meal better eaten then and there. We powered through and finished everything in the bag short of eating the bag itself. Sharing the combo ended up being the perfect amount and when we were all done the total was no more than fifty bucks. It was easily a worthwhile meal for the price. I have to say I was rather skeptical coming in and now I can't wait to come back. This is one place to definitely overlook the atmosphere and head straight for the seafood! read more

5 STARS!!!! From the food, to the service to the ambiance. We got the combo B - and let me preface I'm from Houston where we eat live and breathe crab boils. This is one of the better ones I've had. The combination sauce is too good. Add the sausage! It's so worth it. The service - impeccable. Our waitress Trinity was kind, attentive and just overall wonderful. She deserves a raise! We love this place. Fresh seafood covered in the BEST garlic, Cajun, sauce ever. We recently ordered to-go online. They had a Tuesday special which was 1/2 pound of snow crab legs, 1/2 of headless shrimp, 1/2 of sausage, with 2 potatoes and a corn for only $24.99!!! This was such a steal so we ordered 3 bags--all with their delicious seasoning sauce (combination of garlic butter, Cajun butter, and lemon pepper). When I got to the restaurant, there was a line since everybody's spaced out due to COVID. I simply showed the man at the window my order and he gave me a huge bag, everything packed and ready to go. Inside were our hot and fresh seafood bags, along with gloves, wet wipes, napkins, and tons of extra melted butter. Please come support this local business! Their seafood is so delicious and also cheap for what you're getting! I've seen some of the rude customers they've had to serve while in line, and they kept their professionalism and smiles. I just left Tasty Crab and I'm very unhappy with one person's attitude and service. Unfortunately, when the first point of contact is not good it sets the tone for the customers. I'm giving Tasty's 4 1/2 stars. The Tasty seasoning (which is all the seasonings together) was the best I ever had on a seafood boil! My only disappointment was how little meat was in my snow grab legs. Literally had tiny pieces in the legs. I'm an expert at eating grab but I was not getting full. Luckily I order sausage or I would have still been hungry. I didn't want to complain because we had a great server. He was a very young (17 I believe) server. Sweetest kid ever and did such a great job. Because of him, I just never complained to management about it. The buckets had plenty of food to eat! You could even share one. I knew the concept going in, but had no other expectations. Let's just start with the atmosphere - yep, it was all out F-U-N! I understand this is a chain venture and they deck out each site with graffiti filled walls, tables, booths, etc.; I mean everywhere! This location added fiesta/luau decor with international flags and tropical music. Service was excellent, and once we got the gist of the menu, our order was in. Diners were light when we started, around 5pm, but they slowly filled up and seemed to have a healthy take out service. The food delivery was speedy. Thank goodness we figured out all the plastic "fixings" and got them out of the bucket in time! I thought the bibs were to-go bags, so we didn't figure that out until after the meal. We both ordered the shrimp w/o heads and different sauces. The bags were generously filled with the (12-15) sized shrimp, that both of us had to take a doggy bag home. At one point in the meal, the lights went out. What the HECK? But in popped up the birthday song from strolling waiters with neon shakers and the disco ball was put in action. They got through one verse when the adult recipient called "uncle". I don't know if they do that at every location, but you might want to take note, just in case you really like or want to torture a friend with a birthday. The meal finished up with a few fun photos and full tummies and a good experience. I took a chance on the local version in Raleigh, and was met with the same decor, fast service and food delivery and a tasty hot meal. I'm not sure why shrimp doesn't continue to cook in that sauce during the meal, but the last one is a good as the first. We tried the crab/shrimp combo, but the crab shells were soft and hard to open, since they didn't "crack." We'll stick to the shrimps, I think. It must be such a savings on dish washing to have all your food prepared and served in plastic bags. A number of seafood restaurants have opened around Charleston in the past 6 months or so. My boyfriend loves seafood. Based on the reviews, this seemed like a good place to try. We arrived around 1. We were immediately greeted and seated. It was pretty empty--I wasn't sure if this was a sign that we shouldn't eat here. Of course, inside has a nautical theme with a bar on one side (they don't have their liquor license yet...bummer), booths on the opposite wall, and tables in the middle. You order by the 1/2 pound (depending on the day and time) or pound. Then you can choose the spice level, as well as the seasoning. We ordered two bags--one with crab legs and crawfish, the other with shrimp. We also ordered a dozen steamed oysters and some sausage. Each bag had a small corn on the cob and a potato or two. The food arrived quickly. Everything was delicious, hot, and seasoned perfectly. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Worried about making a mess?...no fear--they provide plastic gloves and bibs. To add a little more fun to the place--customers can sign any wall with anything they want. We didn't partake in this, however, there was certainly some interesting things written on the walls. What do you know...another crab place has opened up in the North Charleston area. I must say...this one I will probably stick with coming back to! There was no wait time entering on a Sunday afternoon. There is plenty of sitting room with booths and tables and a long bar. The interior at Tasty Crab is a few steps above other crab places that popped up in the area. It seems Tasty Crab actually thought about their vision before rushing to open. The decor almost makes it feel like you're near the coast on a beach at a shack. It's pretty neat. It's also neat that they allow their customers to feel some sort of community by writing their names on the wood planked walls. Nice touch. Before I get to the food which was 4.5 stars, what I didn't care much for was the choice of music. Being that it looks like a family friendly establishment and there were plenty of small kids in there eating, I wouldn't have played some of the music they were playing especially at the volume they were. At certain points, I legit thought I was at a party with someone having their phone connected to the aux cord or Bluetooth. Whoever was controlling the music was really turning the music up and down, up and down. One point, the music went off completely (phone probably died...who knows). Beach/Caribbean/Reggae type music would be ideal for this place in my opinion but I'm not the owner :-). Now the food...DELICIOUS!! The menu is a lil redundant though. For instance I ordered the crab legs and mussels combo for $34. Someone could order the crab legs and mussels separately for a total of $35. All seafood comes with corn and potatoes. So basically you're only saving $1 by saying you want the "combo". PLEASE get the Tasty Special flavor with your seafood! It includes Cajun sauce, lemon pepper, and garlic butter! That thing was so delicious!! You can either get it non-spicy, mild, medium, or hot! The snow crab legs were pretty standard size. You get 2 clusters. They definitely didn't get them from the local grocery store. The mussels...HUGE!! And you get a pound. Get them if mussels are your thing! The red potatoes were good. The corn was ok. Well this was so much fun! We had no idea what to expect or how the menu worked and our server was lots of help. The atmosphere was very much like a fish shack and felt very friendly. Two of us decided to share a combo bag with shrimp and crab legs and we added sausage. It also included corn and potato. We chose the mild spice level and it was perfect. Our server explained that there would be one pound of each of the fish selections and we chose to add half pound of sausage. The service was fast. It all came out in the bag and the seasoning was delicious. We were equipped with bibs and gloves to help minimize the mess. Be sure to take a bite of the potato then dip it back in the bag for more seasoning and flavor. Fresh lemon wedges provided a fabulous addition to the already generously sized seasoned shrimp. The crab legs were cooked perfectly allowing the meat to easily slide out of the shell. The Tasty Crab House turned out to be an unexpected surprise addition to Rivers Ave. and I will definitely return for another bag of flavorful goodness. read more

We also had to go up to the counter bc no one ever came by to get the ticket/payment. 3. Lost 1 star because we were given plastic utensils. I frequent here a lot and always get the same server and order. This time however, we got a new server who was not ready to be on the floor by herself. She repeated the order back to us wrong every time, and I was really patient with correcting her everytime. Combo A, add a half pound of shrimp w/o head, medium tasty special, add a pound of sausage. She told us that we could not add a half pound without adding a full pound first. She went to get the host and the host let her know that we could add a half pound since we already were ordering 2 pounds of seafood. They both returned to the table and read the order off wrong again, and I corrected them again. When we received the food, it was the wrong order. So we sent it back, and when they brought us the right bag, there was a total of 20 shrimp in the bag. I ordered a pound and a half. I brought this to the server's attention, I didn't even want the extra shrimp anymore, and she got the host. The host said "I checked with my kitchen and there's a full pound and a half in there." I let her know that there was a total of 20 shrimp in the $80 bag of seafood and she responded with "A half pound is only like 8-9 shrimp." So a pound and a half should be between 24-27 shrimp, right? She said that it's not about the count, but about the actual weight of the seafood. Which I understand, but she's the one that said a half pound is 8-9 shrimp, I just did the math. Anyway, we didn't get checked on for the rest of the meal until it was time for the check. The food tasted good, but this was an awful experience. Will not be back to this location anytime soon. Paid $85 for 20 shrimp, 2 clusters of crab legs, sausage, and white rice. read more

At 1pm on a weekday, they are blasting rap/r&b music which included the F-word, N-word and b-word. This is probably the best seafood place in charleston right now. It is a chain that is under a few different names but it is quite good. I've been to the Raleigh NC location a few times and love it. This one is just as good. The sauces taste slightly different but food is still good. Crab legs were slightly sweet and cooked well. I also had the fried fish basket with onion rings which I do like. I do enjoy their boil bags those are so good and I'm always impressed about how much such a small bag can have so much food. Was a little taken back by one of the servers who evidently recognized me and felt the need to hang out staring at me with a Cheshire Cat smile. While she looked familiar I couldn't quite Place her but she definitely remembered me. I found the need to find things for her to go get in my server eventually noticed and shooed her off.
