The ambiance is nice outside Zach and there's many places to sit. 2 Recommendations: 1. Get the Beef Bulgogi with fries instead of rice. The fries have a nice crunch to them. 2. Korean Bulgogi is better than their Japanese Teriyaki I took off 1 star because they don't post their schedule and come to Zach on (seemingly) random days. I love this take on Mexican-Asian Fusion. It's such an ingenious addition to the food trucks in BCS. We found this one on the main campus, and unfortunately, the line was horrendously long. But, the food is definitely worth the wait, especially if you on a great weather day and want a chance to eat outdoors. I had the calamari tacos for lunch and it was a great choice! I normally hate cole slaw, and when I got my taco and saw their cabbage slaw, I was disappointed to say the very least. But, somehow, this managed to work so well! I loved the spiciness of their chipotle sauce with refreshing lime. Also, it came with a side of kimchi salsa. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I hadn't and boy, my palate was super impressed! It's like a party in my mouth! The only things I have to complain about is the time it took to get your food and the prices seemed a little high for a food truck. Haven't been to Chef Tai's food truck in a year and decided to grab a calamari rice bowl or a kobe burger. Conclusion: I could have gotten a better burger at the Grill on campus or at Grub. I got a Texas burger with usual burger toppings. The first thing I noticed about the burger was the thin patty, and the color of it. While the usual Kobe burgers have an inch-thick patty, the one I got was as thin as McDouble's. The color showed no sign of grilling, and the patty seemed so flimsy. The sauce used in the burger was very sticky and was sweet and slightly spicy. It added some flavor to the otherwise tasteless patty and toppings. Even though it shows I rated this 4/5 stars, I want to rate it 4.5 if I could. I really enjoyed the bulgolgi tacos here. It's full of flavor, with just the right amount of meat and veggie ratio and final touch of spicy mayo drizzled on top. The tortillas are my favorite since they're flour first of all but second because it's always moist and just the right thickness. One of my sorority sisters ordered the mango shrimp burritos and I personally don't like shrimp, but this was perfect!!! She and I split it in half with a side of truffle fries which were also delicious. Another great option for food that is made available on campus! They make your food when you order so it might take some time depending on how busy it is. I still can't believe they changed the menu for the truck on Texas A&M Campus. Even if only by a little. The calamari tacos were my favorite! But I have not seen it for awhile.... I've tried their Burger Wagyu Au Poivre, (Korean BBQ Beef) Asian Rice Bowl, and (Calamari and Korean BBQ Beef) Classic Chef Tai's Tacos. Prices vary depending on where you run into Chef Tai's truck. They definitely know who their customers are because in my experience, the truck on Texas A&M campus is usually cheaper; still pricey though (broke college students). Also depending on what event or venue they are at, their menu changes. They post up their current menu at all times for your convenience. The Burger Wagyu Au Poivre is delicious! The burger has: 1/2 pound of Wagyu patty, tomato, lettuce, grilled onions, cheese, truffle mayo, Peppercorn au poivre steak sauce, on a Brioche bun. All the sauces they put in the burger make it amazing, but super messy to eat. The buns they use are soft and have a hint of sweetness to them. The Korean BBQ Beef chunks in their menu items were well seasoned and most definitely not bland, but they're not very tender. Still edible however and not rock hard. Glad they usually offer the Korean BBQ Beef since they eliminated the Calamari from the menu. The other important ingredients in the tacos include kimchee salsa, cabbage slaw, cilantro, chipotle mayo, all in a flour tortilla. The Asian Rice Bowl is also good. But I don't think I'll get it often because I feel that you get mostly rice and veggies and not enough meat with the rice bowls. read more

I make it a tradition to eat there at least once a week, which is made easy by the fact that the truck parks near my apartment at least once or twice weekly. Anyway, I typically get a Kobe burger since it's really delicious. Sometimes, if I'm adventurous, I get one of their other specials, but you can never go wrong with the Kobe burger. In terms of price, it slightly borders on the reach of a typical college students' budget, as it usually costs $8-$10 for a meal, but it's totally worth the price. I kind of wish they propped some portable chairs and tables like they do for the food vans back in Austin, but when I'm with friends we usually improvise and find somewhere to sit. read more

Chef Tai's Mobile Gourmet is the Bomb Diggity!! What this food truck specializes in, imo, is sauce. Many of their dishes stick out because of the super innovative sauce. For example, I had the Wagyu Au Poivre Burger and it came with a truffle mayo and peppercorn steak sauce. The sauce was very different from any i have tasted before and in a good way! Chef Tai's kim chi sauce on his tacos is also very, very different from the norm. I tasted it by itself and my eyes shot up. I didn't know what to think of it but when combined in the tacos... yummmm. Many of their dishes originate from something very generic (burgers, tacos, mac and cheese) but they kick it up a notch with their own unique ingredients and sauce to make it a totally different experience for your palate. Not everything was perfect though. I thought the bread on the burger was too thick. When i cut it in half and looked at the cross section of the burger, what stood out was the ratio of bread to everythign else. it was like 60:40 bread. I also had a similar problem with the tacos. I feel like 2 corn tortillas is too much to chew through. I understand they probably need 2 to keep it from being too soggy so how about thinner corn tortillas maybe. The food truck-ers who serviced us were very friendly made us feel welcome. Food trucks are very different from the norm, so many people are naturally apprehensive and confused when it comes to approaching one. Very, very excellent. I've had lunch there two times and it was great both times. First I had the Kobe burger, which was probably the first burger I've had in College Station where they were so confident in the meat they actually wanted to serve it Medium. The second time, I got the rice bowl with Korean BBQ short ribs. I asked if they could also include the caramelized brussels sprouts from the vegetarian version, and they very nicely obliged. Hard to go wrong here, but apparently it's possible. Every meal made me want to give this place five stars until the last one. And I don't know if it really was a bit off or if it just didn't appeal to me particularly. I'll start off with the good though, because this place deserves praise. + The tacos I've had have all been great! When I had them initially they were instantly my favorite tacos in town. Very unique, very good. + I had a veggie burrito with Brussels spouts among other things. This was what got me coming back. Once again, very unique and a breath of fresh air when it came to vegetarian options in BCS. + The Wagyu burger might be the best thing I've had here and competes for the best burger in BCS (My burger fix is now evenly spread between here, Stover Brothers, Burger House and Sully's depending on what I'm feeling). They manage to make their burgers as unique and delicious as anything else on the menu. The arugula and possibly a soy vinaigrette on the burger is too great. I've never had arugula on a burger before and now I'm not sure why. Probably because I'm not a genius chef. - The only thing I've had that was below par was a Banh Mi I had recently. The bread fell apart very fast and seemed old. There was WAY too much sauce in it and the meet was very fatty and kind of repulsing. I genuinely think it is something that wont happen often, but when you come to expect a certain standard of quality it can be pretty disappointing. If you have not been to Chef Tai's, don't wait any longer. This place is the most consistently unique place to eat that's still rather affordable in BCS. read more

Occasionally we have a less-than-stellar experience (e.g., stale bread and imbalanced flavors with the Bahn Mi), but generally the food is excellent. Love this place and have a hard time not following them. I get cravings at least once a week. (Veritas is actually my favorite restaurant in town, so you would think I would not go to Chef Tai's every week and just go to Veritas once a month, but I can't stop myself...) I am drawn to their weekly specials and enjoy Kobe beef burger, calamari tacos, etc. I want to try their shrimp taco but I am not a big fan of their tortilla, so as strange as it sounds I may ask for it to be on baquette. The pork on baquette is great, and I ask for extra sauce. I was a bit surprised with pork schnitzel with curry - I don't know what I was expecting but it was very much like pork cutlet curry we get in Japan. So I guess authentic but I can make it better at home. Portions are pretty big and we usually get 2 things and split with 3 of us. Long story short, this is a must stalk type of place! I finally got a chance to try Chef Tai's Mobile Gourmet...And I'm glad I did! I chose the Shrimp Tacos this afternoon which were awesome. The shrimp on these tacos were very large and there were plenty of them. In fact, there was plenty of mango pico de gallo and chipotle mayo as well. The shrimp tacos ended up being pretty messy but they were really good. While some might think that $10 is a lot, the taste and quality of these tacos is well worth it! The BBQ Wagyu Beef burger was amazing as well. I could definitely make it a weekly staple for lunch! I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. All I can say is YUMMM!!! And I might have to become a stalker :-) I caught Chef Tai's Mobile Gourmet at Village Foods where they were supporting the Armadillo Dash - so it became a 3 for one stop for me! Since I already love the food at Veritas, I was pretty sure I was going to love this as well. Even going into it with high expectations, I was still completely blown away. Seeing that it is a favorite of other Yelpers and being an assumed/acknowledged carnivore (trust me, my friends tease me all the time as the whether I'll actually have anything green on my plate), I had to try the Kobe Burger. It was simply AMAZING, and I'm going to have a hard time convincing myself to try a different item next time. read more

As the name suggests, Chef Tai's Mobile Bistro is run by Chef Tai Lee, a graduate of Texas A&M University as well as the Executive Chef at Veritas Wine & Bistro (an upscale restaurant in College Station). One of the best things about the Mobile Bistro is that the menu does not get boring and this is because Chef Tai keeps it fresh by updating it frequently by adding things like chicken quesadillas, and shrimp flatbreads with mango/pineapple pico de gallo to his menu, while at the same time keeping some classics such as an American Kobe Burger which comes with a delicious au poivre sauce as well as a very good truffle mayonnaise spread on ciabatta bread. Chef Tai's food has received national recognition as it was voted the #1 Food Truck in America on Food Network's Great Food Truck Race. A very steep honor for a food truck in a small town deep in the heart of Texas. The food itself is some of the best I've ever tasted, the chicken quesadillas were the best I've ever had, the American Kobe burger melts in your mouth. Chef Tai spare's no expense and neither should you, but the best part is you don't have to. Chef Tai's prices are very reasonable and one could eat at the Bistro for about $10 a person. If you are a student at Texas A&M, have family that goes there or are anywhere near College Station, Texas, then you HAVE to go and eat the Chef Tai's Mobile Bistro. I just tried the first today and honestly I've experienced better fries. I read a lot of Yelp reviews saying the fries are phenomenal. The Time Out or Wingstop fries are better. These fries were literally regular fries fried in a different kind of oil ( I can hardly tell the difference) sprinkled with dry parmesan cheese and pepper and salt. My friends can make better fries. Has been a fan of Chef Tai's food truck for over 2 years. When I first got started, the food was great! The kobe burger, the shrimp tacos, the short ribs. Everything were so delicious. I noticed the quality going downhill after they won the title for best food truck in the nation, due to increased number of customers, and probably less time cooking. Then I just stopped eating Chef Tai's food. Well, that's not the case for today. I'm busy working today, and wanted something quick, so I decided to grab something from the food truck on campus. The Rajas steak ran out, so I ordered Korean Beef & Rice bowl. Oh wow, it's just so good. Everything taste like the way it should be. The beef are marinated well, and cooked very tender, the rice are chewy, and even the pickled radishes are tasty. Well, all hail to Chef Tai again. We went today at Northgate and it was simply awesome. The pork burrito was fat and tasty. I expected smaller portions for the prices. At Veritas, the same food would probably be listed for at least double. We tried almost everything, and it's all quite good. I could have used less slaw on everything and a better meat:bun ratio on the kobe burger, but those are minor quibblings. The people taking orders were cool too. Here in B/CS on business and looking to avoid the collegiate chain restaurants - I was thoroughly impressed. It's just awesome that you can get high-quality gourmet fare in College Station for ten bucks or less. I walked up to the truck and one of the employees explained the menu and provided recommendations (which I really appreciated). I got the korean beef tacos and the shrimp flatbread (with an eye towards leftovers). My companion ordered the wagyu burger (bbq style). Two out of three were killer. My shrimp flatbread was filled with fresh ingredients and was balanced perfectly. Mango and shrimp? Nice combination! My companion's burger was also excellent with high quality meat and bun. Korean beef tacos were meh, in my opinion. I felt like they were missing a kick, but still not bad altogether. I was dying to try everything else on the menu - it looks fabulous. Prices have gone up. Truffle Fries around $3, Rice bowls around $10. Fries were limp and cold. Rice in the rice bowls was so mushy if felt like I was eating baby food. The chicken was well seasoned. Vegetables were fresh. Overall, I've had better from them before. Given their new prices and lackluster food, I wouldn't venture out of my way to purchase them again. Chef Tai is a two minute walk from my campus office and I couldn't be happier. I love, love, love that they use my personal tupperware for my orders. I always get the tofu and brussel sprout tacos, and add extra sriracha. Mmmm. The raw cabbage is great in the tacos, mixed with the chipotle sauce. I have also had their scrumptious portobello burger, which appears on the menu on rare occasions. I only wish they had more veggie specials. But I will always be there for the veggie tacos. We FINALLY caught Chef Tai's Mobile Gourmet in the Rock Prairie Elementary parking lot tonight. Every time I think to look, they're in South College Station, which is a bit of a drive but tonight we had the time. The calamari tacos were very good, and you get a LOT of taco for that $8! The Korean bbq rib tacos were not as flavorful and a bit dry, they needed a sauce to go with it. I do wish they brought along some portable chairs to plop down in at least while you wait like the food trucks in Austin do, but that is really being picky ;) What a great addition to the BCS area! read more

I've stopped by Chef Tai's three times now. The first two times, everything was excellent. The first time I had a burrito of some sort -- it was so long ago that I don't remember precisely what I had -- and the second time I had tacos. Those trips resulted in nothing but good food, good service and delightful endorphin rushes. Until last night, I'd have always given Chef Tai five stars without question. Why only four stars, then? A friend of mine told me to try the "burger au poivre" and the chef's somewhat famous parmesan and truffle french fries. I wasn't much in the mood for a hamburger, but I really wanted to try it, so I gave it a shot anyway. I'll stray away from saying anything about the service other than to say that the truck was staffed with college students who didn't seem all that interested in, you know, providing service. Even though we arrived before 7:30, less than half an hour after they opened, they were already out of french fries. Really? I decided to order just the hamburger, anyway, sans mayo. On the ride home, I noted that the food smelled simply amazing. Unfortunately, that was about the highlight of the experience. The hamburger was cooked perfectly, but it wasn't allowed to cool at all before putting it on the bun. By the time I got it home, which is about a 2 minute drive, the bottom bun had completely turned to mush from the juices of the meat and the several ounces of peppercorn sauce which had been, apparently, ladled onto the sandwich. Unperturbed, I fetched a fork. Now my probably unpopular review of the burger: The remaining half bun was overly sweet, and the peppercorn sauce (the part which hadn't disappeared into the mush which used to be the bottom half of the bun) simply overpowered the flavor of the beef and arugula greens. Had the sauce been used sparingly, and had I eaten the burger on-site, I'd probably have happily given this experience five stars in spite of the lack of fries. But, honestly, I'd hesitate to offer more than two stars based on this experience alone. Of course, I'll be back. I plan on enjoying many more five-star experiences at Chef Tai's. And, in spite of this review, I'll be sure to try the burger again. Next time, I'll be sure to eat it in a shark-like frenzy within a few feet of the truck. And, Chef Tai, please don't run out of french fries again. :) read more

People, the calamari tacos are permanently on the menu. Hands down the best thing on the truck . Try it out on a Thursday night when parked at the Ben Knox Gallery. The combo of tacos + wine + live music is a great way wind down towards the end of the week. While my time in BCS is dwindling, I'll continue to tell all who will listen that this is, in my humble opinion, the best restaurant in town. I'm basing my review only on my first and only try of chef tai's food truck right now- I had a beef bowl- I think since I've been to veritas and experienced his super flavorful food, I had rather high expectations. The bowl didn't have much favor. The beef was chewy and flavorless. I know that chef tais quality as a whole is a lot higher. I also got the truffle fries- while there was a decent amount for the price, you couldn't taste the truffle oil- I think they don't put much on there (to save money) so they really only taste like regular fries with some cheese on them. The bowl had a teriyaki sauce on it but just drizzled and the sauce was probably the most flavorful part of the bowl. I should have gone to TAZ and gotten the butter chicken since it was right next door and definitely doesn't disappoint in flavor. Maybe the burgers are better at chef tai- but it just seemed like they dumbed down their food from their restaurant quality for the college students. I will definitely go back to veritas but not sure about this food truck... read more

I think they have become a bit complacent with their success. Sauces have become runny and flavorless. They need to use fresh grated parm for their fries as the pre-shread stuff doesn't melt well (truffle salt instead of oil would be SOO much better). They could use with another person with a better traveled palate to help chef make better decisions. Their prices have gone up without a correlation in their food. Great food for a reasonable price! I've had their taco, burritos, and baguette sandwich with either the pulled pork or the vegetarian option, and love them all! My husband loves their Kobe burgers (the original and the Veracruz versions). I like the fact that there is a solidly good permanent menu, but also different weekly specials for variety. Was thrilled to find out that they have started serving dinners at locations that are within walking distance from my house! Now that the weather is nice, I can work up my appetite by walking to the food truck, have a little picnic, then take a nice after dinner stroll back home! read more
