The food was really good. Freshly prepared, hot, tasty. I had Sweet & Sour Pork, my wife had Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. The S&S Pork was nice and crispy, and my wife said hers was good, too. Prices - it's not the cheapest, but not too bad. The bill was just over $30 including tax & tip. The portions were fine, just right. Apparently they're getting a liquor license, but don't have it yet. Staff was friendly. Down sides: It was really smoky in there, as in, their cooking vent hoods aren't strong enough. Service was a bit on the slow side, not horrible, but longer than I'd have liked between the time we ordered & when we received our food. The waiter didn't know the menu well, when my wife ordered Shrimp With Lobster Sauce, he said they have no such dish. She showed him on the menu, then it was okay. The potstickers were excellent and the garlicky sauce that comes on the side with it was delish! The combination rice was good; different than what I am use to. This rice is more moist than other fried rice. The grains of rice were fluffy. Beef broccoli was flavorful with a hint of ginger. Orange peel chicken- you could taste the fresh orange peel and had the right amount of spice. When you walk in you can see the chef preparing the fresh veggies and meats! We had dinner last night at Chef Tang's. It was our first visit to this establishment. The restaurant was somewhat dark and quiet. We were greeted immediately and promptly sat at a large, comfortable booth. We ordered egg rolls, Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and Vegetable Fried Rice. All the food came out steaming hot and fresh. The egg rolls were crispy. The Kung Pao Chicken was absolutely delicious! The chicken was well seasoned and was flashed fried to perfection. It was prepared with zucchini, water chestnuts, and peanuts. My husband is a beef guy, but he tasted my chicken and dug in. He even ate the zucchini which he usually ignores. The Mongolian Beef was served with onions in a tasty sweet sauce. The meat was tender enough to cut with a fork. The Vegetable Fried Rice was absolutely habit forming. I would have been very satisfied with just this. Yum! None of the dishes were greasy. All cooked to perfection. The portions were large and moderately priced. We had lots of leftovers, which I can't wait to eat tomorrow. Overall, I was very impressed with the food and the service we received. Our server was very attentive and took excellent care of us. It's our first time come to Chef Tang. We just worked couples block away from this restaurant and been hearing about the new business for a while. Finally I have chance to tey it First of all, the wonton soup is great except it's a little salty maybe cause my taste is different. Secondly the mongolian beef is amazing good, it's so tasty and juicy. Thirdly, the shrimp candy walnut is outrageous, it's the best shrimp walnut ever. I always eat that at Panda Express with my son and just realized what is the real Chinese food. We came 20' before they close and the waitor still is extremely happy and sweet. I would be really tired probably at the end of the day. Heard them from next Door app and love to try and support the new business since we just open our nails salon Revive Nails & Spa 2 months ago(corner of Sycamore and Melrose). Yay!! There's a great new Chinese place in town. The area has been sorely lacking in that category. This place was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad he did. My husband and I go out for Chinese 1-2 times a month for the past year and ALWAYS go to Chef Tang's. The last time was beginning of July and, at 8pm, we were the only ones there. This worried us because we don't want them to close, so we talked about it with our server. We were told that they've only been open for about a year (must have found them just after they opened) and that Take Out is more popular than dining in. The place before was Take Out only. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and attentive. I think there was a learning curve because the first couple of times it was smoky (from cooking) and they seemed overwhelmed. The lunch special ends at 3 and I was very happy with their lunch choices. Ordered potstickers, Kung Pao chicken, orange peel beef, and chicken chow mein ( came with soup, rice, eggroll). I was surprised by how delicate and well balanced the soups were. The reason I happen to REALLY like this place is because everything had its own distinctive flavor. Nothing had too much sugary syrups, salt, or was absurdly spicy ( you can request that though). The staff was very patient and attentive, they made this visit a great experience. When visiting my elderly friends that live in Mountain Side, they brought me to Chef Tang's on my first day here. They found that I liked it and had vegetarian options, so they ended up bringing me here for the remainder of my trip. I think I am now an expert with all of the tofu and veggie options here (all are great). The wait staff are incredibly friendly, my friend's dish was too spicy and they were kind enough to exchange it. Definitely a great choice for Chinese food when you're feeling lazy or have family visiting and don't want to cook. read more

The food quality is OK. Not tasty, not at all flavorful. Just OK!!! I ordered a vegetarian chow mien from the entree as they don't have any vegetarian option on the lunch menu. Moving on, they have option for extra spicy and I ordered extra spicy. The chow mien came with only ONE small broccoli, only ONE small bok choy leaf, some sprouts. The noodles were very oily and blend. I had to ask for hot sauce and still the taste was not there. While asking for the hot sauce the server mentioned that she told to the cook to make it extra spicy but the cook messed up. I went there with my colleagues for lunch and one of my colleague mentioned that she ordered brown rice with her lunch special but got the white rice instead. In a nutshell, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I used to come here when it was Chinex. This place is amazing!! You get a lot for a little. Beer and wine bar, awesome ambiance. This place needs to be promoted because it is so worth it!!! Unfortunately they have not lived up to their initial review. We have been back 3 times and the first time the server was iffy. We had the same server the second time and she knew nothing about the menu or the food preparation. We decided to give it one more try-spare ribs came out cold, table was sticky, and when I asked to be sure there wasn't any shrimp in the rice dish, as I am allergic, The server assured me there were not. I LOVE a good hot and sour soup and have had it many a time at many different restaurants. And I love spicy food. This was so spicy. Too spicy. I watered it down. It was still too spicy. If you like salty - this is your place. I call it Chef Salt. We had to wash the food in hot water to render it edible. Chef Tang is the typical run-of-the-mill faux Chinese made for an American palate. But this one is especially bad as their food can sometimes be inedible. read more
