Each time, the hosts were very knowledgeable in the menu, recommendations, and provided exceptional service. The portion sizes are generous, but you do pay for the food you receive - which is always delicious. The homemade desserts are an absolute must try! This restaurant is within a house, so there is not a lot of seating available. You have to call in advance to schedule reservations. So for years I have heard how delicious Chef Vola's was, and how hard it is to get a reservation. So I decided I was going to go, first up reservations are very easy. Just call, leave a message and they call you back, so very simple. Upon arriving Chef Vola's is located in a house and is BYOB, or they have a runner who will go pick up what you want. Parking is available next the house is a lot, since it was a weekday it was $5. We ordered the salad, which was good but we were charged twice. Sodas are $6 each time they refill your cup...come on this is ridiculous. The veal chop parmigiana was very good, except they do not tell you they use a blend of sharp provolone and mozzarella, I didn't care for the taste of the sharp provolone melted and had I known would have requested just mozzarella. Everything is al la carte, so you must order a side of pasta (this can be shared, only enough for 2). The desserts were just ok, I had the banana cream pie which for $12 was partially frozen, the tiramisu was the smallest piece I have every seen. Service was very good. Will I go back? One day but no time soon, there are so many good Italian restaurants in South Jersey, Chef Vola's did not stand out as anything special. read more

Well, this place has managed to put excellence in a time capsule. From the moment you walk in, you feel as if you have gone back in time. The atmosphere was as if you were having a family meal. The server (Olivia) made us feel like family. She was hands down the best server we've ever had and made the whole experience that much better. We had the house salad that was incredible. We had a chicken spinach soup that made me feel like my grandmother was in the kitchen.(Delicious) for the main course. I had the bone in the veal parm. There is a reason this dish is legendary . ABSOLUTELY Amazing. The wife had a pasta bolegniese that was delicious and a very generous portion. For desert, we tried the cheesecake sampler with Gelato . We were pleasantly surprised that we managed to get reservations here with only about five or six days advance notice. No doubt this is because it was a Sunday night in September. We had a marvelous time at our dinner here! All that you hear about how the place is rollicking and has a great family feeling to it is absolutely true from what we experienced! Our server, Mary, was extraordinarily pleasant and interactive with us. The people around us were pleasant and chatty, and we also had nice conversations with the owners and with one of the managers, Anthony. We had the famous fuel parmesan, which was great, the house salad, which was super delicious, the Chilean sea bass, which was great, and the warm ricotta pie with apple, phenomenal! The room we were in was called the family room because the decor is all family photographs. Such a great way to decorate a restaurant! We dined at Chef Vola's for our anniversary last night and we were happy with our decision. From making the reservation to our seating, we throughly enjoyed all of the kindness and professionalism that was shown. We dined on the porch, which is an actual covered porch, that gives you an authentic Italian experience. We chose to go with the tossed salad as our appetizer. For entrees, we had the pistachio crusted salmon, sausage, mushroom, peppers and onions with the pasta trio (bolognese, blush sauce, and clam sauce). We loved EVERYTHING! The salad was tossed in a light balsamic dressing, which made it so tasty. We enjoyed the flavors of other salad ingredients (olives, pepperoni, cheese, onions, etc) too. My hubs loved his pistachio crusted salmon, which was the size of a large steak. We were surprised by the size of these salmon, but the flavor was fantastic. I enjoyed my veal sausage, peppers, mushrooms, and onions. I asked for 3 sausages, but only finished 1, so I had plenty to take home. We decided to share the pasta trio and thank God we did. Hubs had the clam sauce and I devoured the bolognese and some of the blush sauce. All were an A+. We were so full after our entrees, but said we wouldn't leave without trying dessert. Why!? How could you not try dessert after a fantastic Italian meal?! We both opted to have the apple ricotta pie. We decided to have one at restaurant and one to go. Oh, My, Goodness!!! Talk about heaven on earth. The fluffiness of the ricotta along with the apple base crust was superb! I slowly slid the plate away from my husband and I tried to eat the entire pie. This place is like going to grandmas house for Sunday dinner. The best Italian food you'll ever have and enough to feed an army. The servers are personable like family members, not stiff or too formal. Show up with a bottle of wine and get ready to eat. Speaking of eating, there's only one dish you absolutely need to order and that is the bone-in veal parmigiana. I'm not someone who typically orders veal but did because it's their signature dish. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Tender, cheesy, crispy fried edges, and a gigantic portion. It's so good you'll be pushing yourself to finish it even though you're stuffed. The pasta was excellent as well. I recommend the fra diavolo sauce for a nice spicy kick. House salad is almost like an antipasto with pepperoni, provolone and peperoncino. We also ordered the chicken scarpariello which was okay but didn't compare to the veal at all. The chicken was a bit dried out and the dish needed acidity. Cherry peppers would help. As far as dessert goes, the banana cream pie is another must try for the end of your meal. Espresso was a bit weak and left something to be desired. They also don't allow hard liquor so you can't enjoy some sambuca or annisette with coffee. The decor is pretty bad if I'm being honest. You're basically eating on someone's porch. Floor was a little off-level and the layout is very tight. I knew what to expect but still, it could be fixed up a bit. The time between courses was kind of long but we were a large party on a Friday night. All and all I have to recommend this place despite its flaws. It has a charm that can't be denied. We were able to get into this place one week after calling but they were available on a Wednesday. You must be flexible. The place is a house. It is 100 years old establishment. Their signature dish is the veal parmigiana bone in. It comes with Marsala sauce but I asked for bolognese which was tasty. We had the veal medallions with eggplant which was great and their sea bass was well seasoned and delicious. The service was very good and friendly. Everything is a la carte. We had the trio of pasta as an appetizer which the 4 of us shared. They allow sharing at no cost they just ask we each order a meal. They didn't have much of appetizers. I was expecting calamari for an Italian place but they did not have that. We all shared a house salad which was nicely done and tasty. Their signature dessert was warm butterscotch ricotta cheese pie. It was warm, light and tasty. It could have used a drizzle of butterscotch to make it better. We also tried their signature homemade banana pie. I was not impressed with the banana pie. I like it to be fresh not frozen. Also I like plain and they drizzled chocolate on it which gave it a different taste and could hardly taste the bananas. It was solid Italian food.
