I went for lunch today with my friend and had the ravioli lunch special. This includes a nice salad- I had blue cheese dressing- coffee, and an Anderson's dessert. It was wonderful. This is one of those staple Buffalo places that you either get and love or complain that it is overhyped. I fall on the "get and love" side of things. They are famous for their spaghetti parm and while they have an entire menu of delicious things, I don't think I've ever not ordered that when I've eaten there. It is perfection. Spaghetti, some sauce, lots of butter and cheese broiled to perfection. They serve it with a side of their sauce. Their sauce is incredible. I'm not generally a fan of red sauce, but something about theirs makes me want to drink it I enjoy it so much. Something to note is that you can get extra sauce while in the restaurant for free, but if you ask for extra sauce to go, they charge you. (our server told us to always ask for some before you leave and then you can put it on your pasta or ask for a container and put it in there. Their bread is also amazing and they bake it in house. Make sure you make a reservation if you are going on a weeknight or if there is an event in the area. Overall, an amazing place with tons of character. Definitely worth the visit. read more

I ordered the eggplant parm with spaghetti and it was delicious. A little bland but I just added some salt and pepper. The Chef's restaurant has been around since 1923 and this was our first but definitely not our last experience. We dined as a 4 on Thursday evening about 6pm. This casual place was busy but they found us seating right away. Servers were friendly and attentive. The menu is sure to please any palate and hunger level. They are known for their Spaghetti Parmigiano and other entrees named after athletes with portions sure to be enjoyed long after. We had minestrone soup, two spaghetti parms, chicken frances and meatball and sausage parmigiano. Everything was hot, delicious and plentiful. The bread basket was soft and delicious with seasoned oil. No room for dessert but plenty of leftovers. I suggest you not eat for a few days before, sit down, bib up and Enjoy! read more

This is one of the best Italian places in town. The food is fantastic the bread to start with was very soft and fluffy with great oil. I had the fettuccine Alfredo that was so creamy and fresh. I have been there many times though. The pesto and Baked Parm are one of my favorites. I ended with a cannoli that was good but needed some chocolate chips. They had a lot of vegetarians options as well. The ambiance was great but you will need a reservation. It is very wheelchair accessible as I know because someone in my party has a wheelchair and they got in fine. The service was great with the place being full but still good service. read more

There were 3 choices: chicken parm, lasagna and cod. I went for the fish and was very happy with my meal. Okay, this place is a must. Is it authentic Italian food? No. Is it anything particularly groundbreaking? Also no. But the signature dish is the spaghetti parm and it is exactly what it sounds like. Red sauce, butter, and spaghetti topped with an ungodly amount of cheese and broiled. It was so fun, and I loved it. The restaurant is kitschy in a charming way, and the walls are lined with photos of celebrities holding a jar of Chef's sauce. The restaurant has been around for 100 years and it felt historical. I was here to hear a presentation on getting stem cells injected to fix aching joints (back, elbows, knees, shoulders). The presentation included dinner. Three choices: cod, chicken Parmesan, meat lasagna. A simple tossed salad was served shortly after we arrived. A nice full bread basket was put on each table. Then the talk began, complete with slides and videos showing the benefits and testimonials. Dinner was served. I picked the chicken Parmesan. There were two nice sized breaded chicken patties, covered in sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. A good sized serving of spaghetti was the side. I added only some chili pepper flakes. I was at an event in a private dinning room. I decided to place a takout order for Chicken Parm and Stuffed Banana Prppers. The order came with a side of tomato sauce, Italian bread and garlic bread. The Chicken Parm was good and so was the Pasta and the Sauce but I didn't care for the Stuffed Hot Peppers. The peppers were spicy like they should be but they were under cooked and the filling was some kind of watery, flavorless, creamy thick sauce instead of a meat or bread stuffing, but the melted cheese on top tasted good. They need to learn how to make traditional Western New York Stuffed Hot Peppers. I would order the Chicken Parm again but not the disappointing Stuffed Hot Peppers. read more

I can't believe I've never left a review here before because I absolutely LOVE Chef's. I've been coming to Chef's for years with my family for birthday dinners, celebrations, and just because it's that great here for dinner. You get such a large portion every time you come that I always end up having enough to bring home for lunch the next day which is awesome. I love the pesto pasta and the spaghetti parm is to die for! It is sooo buttery and cheesy. It is the best spaghetti parm I've ever had. You always get bread and butter with oil to start which is nice to hold yourself over before your meal comes. The sherbet is also a great choice for dessert! It's such a cool space because there have been so many celebrities to come here and get their picture taken to hang up on the wall. Save yourself the time, money, and disappointment DO NOT EAT HERE! From the moment we walked in, it was clear this place doesn't care about its customers. The service was painfully slow and disorganized, and when the food finally arrived, it was barely edible. Dishes came out lukewarm, poorly seasoned, and looked nothing like what was described on the menu. Ingredients tasted cheap and stale, as if corners were cut at every step. The staff seemed uninterested at best and annoyed at worst. Simple questions were met with attitude, and obvious issues with the food were brushed off instead of addressed. For the prices they charge, this level of quality and service is unacceptable. There are plenty of better options nearby that actually respect their customers and take pride in what they serve. My wife comes from a very Italian family and it made her feel at home. The food was delicious. I had the chicken parm with spaghetti parm on the side and couldn't finish it all, so it made for a great lunch at work the next day. We loved all the celebrity photos on the walls. I recommend making reservations. They aren't required, but we reserved a spot ahead of time and we were seated within a couple minutes. Others walking in had a wait time of 30-40 minutes. Probably didn't need a reservation because there were several empty tables even when we left at 7. They were able to use the non-meat sauce in mine and brought me extra sauce upon request. The spaghetti was soft, which fit the style of the dish, and there was so much cheese. I also got the minestrone soup, which is one of my family's favorites. My parents asked me to bring them two quarts after my meal and I accidentally brought them four quarts. That's a lot of soup for two people. But the soup was still gone within a few days because it is that good. I also got the opportunity to have an event in one of their banquet rooms as a helper to the event host. They had the ability to project a slideshow and managed to pull off a lovely banquet meal for 50+ guests. They were helpful and even snuck my parents extra minestrone soup. Came here with a large group during a Buffalo Wing Trail trip. We needed a break from eating a million wings over the weekend, and this nostalgic spot seemed like a great alternative. Given our large size as a group and having made a reservation, they placed us in a back (private-ish) room that was perfect for us. We ordered several bottles of decent red wines and the server brought us plenty of Italian bread to go around (multiple times!).My wife and I decided to sample a cup of minestrone soup, but it was only average. We ordered a few of their famous dishes...chicken parmesan, spaghetti parmesan and also a side of meatballs. Everyone really seemed to love their rich, hearty red sauce which was atop both the chicken parm and meatballs dishes. Great for being sopped up by the Italian bread! The spaghetti parmesan dish was kind of unique. The noodles underneath the blanket of baked cheese were buttered and then topped with some sauce and the aforementioned cheese. It was a tasty combination and throwing a bit of the red sauce mentioned above over it made for a really good bite! This meal was a total carb overload, and I'm here for it! Then as I walked to the hostess stand, I saw two women behind the counter, I went to ask them, they said "you have to wait for for the hostess." Seriously? No one could just tell me which room to go to? We were the only group with a room reservation. Once the hostess arrived, she was in shock that I was there 30 min early and acting like there must be a mistake. I explained we have to set up for the presentation and my work partner was already here. The room was already set-up with place settings, so I'm not sure what the hesitation was. - The prices - holy cow do they charge a lot for pasta! And as far as I know, only the sauce is homemade. No handmade noodles here. - They close early on weekdays - to my surprise they close at 8pm on Wednesday. We did not realize this and apologize for our lengthy work presentation. I do wish that the server would have checked back around 7:30pm to see if dessert was wanted. - Lack of variety on the menu - would have liked to have seen gnocchi and lasagna on the menu. Perhaps a bit more non-pasta dishes too, like a chicken marsala. Overall, not impressed, especially considering this spot holds quite a reputation in Buffalo. I feel like Ilio DiPaolo's and Mulberry's have much better Italian offerings. read more

We were seated right away and our server (I wish I could remember her name) was very attentive and kind. The bread with herb oil was delicious and the menu offered lots of different options! I ended up getting pesto pasta, and it was really really good. The best part was that for everything, I don't think my portion of the meal cost more than $25, even with a drink. So delicious! It was our ten year anniversary and the restaurant we had our reception at was closed, so we did the next best thing and got takeout Chef's because we had our rehearsal dinner there. The food was so good and has got me wanting to go back again soon!! We each got spaghetti parm (it wasn't heated yet in the picture and I didn't take one during the meal as I didn't want to interrupt our dinner!), which comes with a side of sauce and two slices of their fresh baked bread, an order of five meatballs, an appetizer platter, and an extra half loaf of bread. The appetizer platter was perfect and all very good!! There was garlic toast and it had a spice, I'm not sure what, but it made it much better than what I make at home. There was also onion rings (hard to mess up so they were good), calimari, mozzerella sticks (a sleeper hit for us!!) and fried ravioli (again, hard to mess up and perfectly good). The meatballs were good but the sauce was the standout part for us!! The same sauce came with the spaghetti and I loved it. A slight spicy kick and such good flavor, and I loved all the cheese on top of it all. The bread was also phenomenal! So soft and tasty and definitely another highlight for me.
