Came here with a group of 7 at 11am on a Saturday. Maybe we got lucky, but I noticed that they seat you even if your whole group hasn't arrived yet. We ordered a LOT of food (with LOTS of leftovers) two rounds of it, and it came out to less than $40 per person. Food was decent for a classic dim sum place. My favorites were the fried pork belly bites, salt and pepper pork, salted egg custard baos, and taro puffs. They also do a delicious salt and pepper fried squid. Everything is super salty. Food comes out fast, definitely need to be assertive with waving down a server. Checking off what you want on the paper menu is the best way to go, especially with a large group. We can expect little to no wait for a table, and decently fast service, although sometimes it can take quite a while to get big dishes, like roast duck or fried noodles, to come out. Servers are busy but relatively attentive and will promptly bring you additional condiments like Chinese mustard upon request. Our favorite dishes are the siu mai, har gow, roast duck, and steamed egg yolk custard buns. The siu mai here are huge--juicy and full of meaty flavor. I would highly recommend dipping in the Chinese mustard! Roast duck is delicious but one time it came out tasting funny--as if the duck was older than usual. Most times, however, it tasted fatty and delicious with the sweet and sour plum sauce they provide. Ambiance is lively and full of families dining on the weekend. There are lots of nice dim sum places in Alameda, but not that many that can accommodate our group of 20. They don't take reservations, so I volunteer to come out early (an hour early) to add us to the wait list. They don't use Yelp wait list. There's a very small waiting area inside, so many wait outside. The parking lot is small and cramped, so be prepared to find street parking. Once seated, you're given a menu to order from, but you can also order from the carts that come around. For a large group, it's more efficient to order from the menu. The food came out quickly. The staff is busy, so you have to be assertive and get their attention. Once you have their attention, they are quick to respond. The dim sum options are all very standard, which is pretty much all I ask for. The food is good and I thought the dumplings were quite large. Besides dumplings, they have noodles, fried rice, buns, fried calamari, chicken feet, etc. One thing we wanted that they didn't have is fried chicken wings, but I guess that's not really considered dim sum :) Another plus is their sodas are cold. Don't go too far because once you miss your number being called, you will go back into the queue. They quickly give you a sheet and pen to check off your dim sum items and ask for your tea preference. We ordered the chrysanthemum and paid tea per person-it's around $1.75 pp (typical of dim sum restaurants). We received our food here and there. Writing from an upset daughter. Today my parents went to eat dim sum here and when the server was placing the steaming hot siu mai down it dropped. All 4 burning HOT siu mais AND their HOT juices landed on my father's hand. Not a single apology! I understand there may be a language barrier, however some form of acknowledgment is universal no matter what language you speak. I am upset and disappointed as a consumer here and as a daughter hearing this story being told. This is unacceptable no matter how you look at it. Please, anyone put yourself in this situation. Your elderly parents taking time out to enjoy a meal (eatting out is already so expensive) and then they get hurt by an employee which showed zero empathy. They did not make a big deal out of it, they did not ask for anything to be comped. They paid and left. I am writing this to make sure management and the owner is aware this has happened in their place of business. A "sorry" could have gone a long way. It would have showed integrity and that it was truly an accident. I took my parents here for dim sum today based on a friend's recommendation. I would say try to come early because parking around the area isn't the best... they have a really small parking lot next to the restaurant but when we went it looked like none of the cars had moved. Pleasantly surprised because usually if you get dimsum in SF the portions are much smaller with barely any shrimp. My dad really enjoyed the seafood pan fried noodles. I thought the steamed beef tripe was just alright. My mom thought the steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce was a little too sweet and I have to echo that. The steamed egg yolk custard bun wasn't as runny as I would've liked but I appreciated that it was brought out last since I usually eat that last. I hate it when it's the first dish they bring out so by the end of the meal it's cold. Overall the food was good, portions were good. You can watch them butcher the meat in the front area while you wait. Tea and water was served quickly upon request. Food ordering is simple, you just check the boxes next to what you want and they bring it out. Duck was juicy and delicious--my toddler ate so much! The dim sum itself was good, with the usual options. The steamed pork bun was a little soggy though. I wish it had more substance. The whole thing kinda melted in my mouth and had no texture. The siu mai was huge! And very juicy. Rice noodle roll with shrimp was tasty too. We ordered a few entrees as well since it was almost lunch time. The honey walnut shrimp was good (but pricey!). The veggie dish was also good--crisp and fresh. As we were leaving it was awkward that they sat another group at our table before we barely had a chance to get our things. We felt a little rushed! Won't be coming here again. There was a rubber band INSIDE the Ham Sui Gok (deep-fried glutinous rice dumpling). My mom was eating the last half of a Ham Sui Gok when she spat out the rubber band. She thought it was odd that there was something so chewy and long. When we got the attention of a waiter, he immediately took the plate away and went to look for a manager. The manager came back with the plate, apologized, and started giving excuses. She said it was most likely an accident, "The cooks must have mistakenly thought it was part of the meat and mixed it in, you know?". Then she added that it must have been from the chives since the chives are bound by rubber bands. (Ham Sui Goks don't have chives in them) She later returned with a plate of white sugar sponge cake that was covered in plastic wrap and unwrapped it in front of us. And offered it to us to make up for their mistake. But none of us touched it since we all lost our appetites already. They also didn't charge us for our tea or for the Ham Sui gok. I have passed this restaurant for years, had no idea what a wonderful treat it would be to eat there. The front of the restaurant was deceiving, once you cross the threshold, what seemed like a small cramp restaurant opened to a large dining room. There are a few dim sum lounges in Alameda but this location is, for me superb. I knew the food was going to be great because there is always a line to get in and the parking lot would be full. We ordered at least twelve items from crispy pork belly to shrimp fried Chinese egg plant, fried tofu, Chinese bok choy, and a plethora of many other delicacies I can't name but I sampled. The restaurant was busy for a Thursday lunch crowd. If you try to visit on a Saturday or Sunday be prepared to wait because it will be busy. I enjoyed the experience. The restaurant was neat and pleasant for a wonderful dining experience. Only thing I was expecting was dim sum on a cart wheeled to my table which I had experienced at another dim sum restaurant in Oakland long gone. My go-to dimsum place as well as for dinner. For Cantonese food, it's hard to find a place that isn't too salty/oily. I naturally do not have an option to go elsewhere if my parents and grandparents prefer to eat here. The location is also very convenient to eat at. I'm only going to yelp about the dim sum for now as that is what I ate that day. The food is about a 7/10 for me, but add an extra star cause the service is great, another one cause the dinner is good too, and another one cause we knew the previous owners. Service is pretty consistant and a solid 4, it may also be because we speak chinese. My husband who does not speak chinese some times claims he has a harder time with communication on some items. They do have a small parking lot which is always a plus for me in Alameda! Parking there is free. What I miss most since SIP is Sunday Dim Sum with family. I'm happy to say that Chef Wok still offers the best dim sum in Alameda, without the usual interactions pre-SIP. Dim sum tastes fresh as if you're dining in. I usually order their har gow, siu mai, sticky lotus wrap, shrimp rice rolls, pan fried chive dumplings, and Singapore rice noodles. There is a parking lot aside of the restaurant but it gets packed in no time! We ordered our typical dim sum dishes from the order form and they were served steaming hot!
