My mom and I only stopped by to pick up a few items: 3 pieces Cantonese sponge cake (Ma La Go), 1 piece fermented rice cake, and 3 sesame balls. The food itself is tasty. However, the pricing of items is probably why we would not go back. We were charged $20, which is kind of expensive ? I would be able to buy more and for cheaper at other locations. My mom went back in to ask for each price of the items and the lady said $3 per sponge cake, $3 per fermented rice cake, and $1.60 per sesame ball....if you add up the total, it's $16.80 . So why were we overcharged? The lady then only gave my mom $1.50 back? Anyways, I would not return to this place since they don't seem to actually properly calculate the total. Definitely a hidden gem! Just moved to the area couple months ago and stumbled upon this dim sum take out spot randomly. I got everything for 22$ which wasn't bad at all. The fillings were really packed with meat and it was really delicious! My favorite was the siu mai and the potsticker it was so flavorful and juicy and again they were pretty big so i got full pretty fast. The ladys working were pretty nice. I wish they had a menu though I had to ask what dim sum they had available. I may have also gotten there pretty late but glad they still had these flavors cause I'll definitely be back again. read more

There breads and buns are soft and fluffy and flavors are pretty good. The pineapple buns had fried milk filling (奶黄）but I prefer butter. Difference from big city and small village style. The egg tarts have a cookie texture instead of pastry dough which would make them better. This is a delicious dim sum spot in Little Saigon neighborhood of Oakland. I've always enjoyed coming here for Chow Fun as well as the dim sum and baked goods. I removed my review from 13 years ago and started this new one upon hearing about the owner dying due to the rampant crime plaguing this area. RIP. These hard working people deserve better. I came here to show my support for locally owned family businesses. Businesses in this plaza keeps getting broken into. The food here is OK. I got the lotus leave chicken, a small porridge and a Chinese donut for $12. It was past 1pm and some of the stuff were no longer available. The cashier had to scrape the bottom of the pot to fill up 80% of a small container of porridge. Regardless, I hope they do well and stay in Oakland. read more

The best dim sum & pastry name is very deceiving. It was extremely tough to like this place. Ordered 4 hai gow 4 sui mai, Chinese donut, porridge and a lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice with the kids. First off they didn't have enough hai gow so they gave me 3 hai gow and 5 sui mai without telling me! It came out to $29, I was shocked by the price, the lady said the hai gow and sui mai alone was $14! That's $7 per order and let me tell you I've eaten dim sum my whole life and there not even moderately close to be charging that kind of price. The quality was mush. Porridge was water down. The lotus leaf wrapped Sticky rice was mushy like it was steamed over and over again. The Chinese donut was the only thing that was half decent( hard to mess up fried bread). WHEN: Thursday @1:30pm I grew up coming here for the pastries, especially the egg tarts. It's been many many years since I've gone back, and with it being much later in the day, there's not as many pastries left. It's cash only but they do have a sign out with thier venmo and Zelle info for payment. I don't remember the cost of each pastry but I recall it being quite reasonable. Overall the pastries are just okay. However what was really good was the GLUTONOUS RICE BALL with meat filling. The pastry part was gooey and sweet, which mixed si well with the savory meat filling. The EGG TARTS were oddly orange, and didn't taste great. Not sure what it is but it's definitely not how they used to be. I think this place is more known for their dim sum dishes. I like that you can order individual pieces. Total was $20 for 2 xiu mai (steamed pork dumplings), 2 har gow (steamed shrimp dumplings), 1 ham sui gok (savory fried mochi with pork filling), 1 small beef chow fun, 1 small congee (rice porridge). This was enough for 2 people to share. My favorites were the xiu mai and har gow. Everything else tasted bland or underwhelming. Apparently, you can preorder online via the link to their website, yet payment is still cash-only. Their website posted prices, while their onsite menu board does not. We're always leaving the area early and need a place that's open around 7am so we can grab a bite for the road. Was headed for Pho Ga that was supposed to be open but wasn't so we happened upon this place. Neighborhood looks a bit shady but people were hanging around outside with a mini line inside already. We ordered: . 5 ha gao - good sized, not over steamed, tasty . 5 siu mai - good sized with yummy shiitake and porky flavor . 1 fried crueller - good doughy chew to middle; not thin and "empty" on the inside . 1 lotus led sticky rice (big, but too full to try) . 1 small soy sauce chow mein - yummy, great flavored noodles and noodles doneness with expected oiliness, bean sprouts, celery, scallion, carrot and pork shreds . 2 egg sponge muffins - can taste mild sweetness, spongy and not too dry as these sometimes are. I don't think I noticed clearly marked prices so we had a little sticker shock when total came out to $32!! I go here from Alameda because the prices are the best and I don't want to drive to Oakland Chinatown to Tau Yuen and wait in the long a$$ lines. Been coming here for 8 years now and always leave with a pink box or two and some dim sum. Last time I went here I ran into an old neighbor who also lives in Alameda. The parking lot is small and people park like you would expect people to park in Oakland. In the middle of the lane, over the white line, check. I come here for their chicken feet. They serve a saucier, tender chicken feet, cooked to just before it's fall-off-the-bone (but won't fall apart) tender then braised in the sauce throughout the day. If you want a quick bit of pastry and don't want to drive all the way to Chinatown, here's your place. They sell a bunch of pastries and well as dim sum type dishes. Their Chinese fried donut is really fresh and crispy. My favorite bun here is the Chicken Bun and it's really big and filling. The chicken bun has chicken of course, a quarter of an egg, and sausage. Used to come here all of the time for no-fuss dimsum among other items. Was nearby and stumbled upon this old favorite and excited to eat it again after so many years. I was taken aback by the prices (yes, I understand inflation, but still). For har gow or pork shu mai, it is $1.50 PER PIECE. A standard order of 4 pieces is thus $6. At this price, I could go down to a sit down dim sum restaurant for cheaper, in my opinion and experience. The sizes of the dim sum are pretty good though. The shrimp har gow tasted just how I remembered! Great shrimp flavor and excellent wrapping-- not too thick or thin. The pork one was good, but not great. It was way too fatty for me, and I'm typically a bigger fan of pork versus shrimp. The ladies working there were a little rude, but didn't deter me. Homey Chinese bakery/café in Metro Plaza! I've never actually sat down and tried any of their menu items, but the bakery items are always tasty. They don't have as many of the savory (ham, tomato, etc.) buns that I enjoy as some other bakeries, but their selection of staples (like "gai mei bao" coconut buns, egg tarts, and pineapple buns) is always good. Come early in the morning or at least before noon if you want more variety!! For the quality/value you get at the $1-2 price range, the pastries are about on par with other Chinese bakeries in Oakland. I will say Metro Plaza parking is horrendous. Please don't believe the name of this place because it is far from the "best" dim sum. I stopped by here to get a quick bite and decided to order some pork shu mai & shrimp dumplings. The shu mai had all sorts of textures going on in them (didn't sit well with my stomach later) & the wrap around the shrimp dumpling was so soggy, I had to just eat the no flavor shrimp. Walking in, I was already unsure about buying anything because the place didn't look too clean, but I gave them a chance, when I should of followed my gut.
