Wanted to try something different than we normally do..First off the employees working today we're so nice and helpful,she explained everything,let us sample items and made excellent suggestions. We both got the 2 meat combo chicken and beef with onions,so tasty,the grilled veggies and rice, naan bread and 2 sides..The chicken stew so yummy,the tomatoes and garlic eggplant,amazing. The salad mix with cucumber and tomato the employee suggested putting it on a bed of romaine with lemon juice and oil topped it off nicely .Even got a complimentary hummus.Will go back before we leave town..Wish had one of these in TN I thought it was a tad pricey until I saw the amount of food,we had so much left over for another meal..If you have a chance to go in here,do so. I've heard great things about this place so I decided to try it out. I went during lunch time and I got a chicken lunch plate. It was delicious! The portions are relatively big, which is awesome and fulfilled me. I have never had Mediterranean food so I was excited to try something different. The staff were very friendly and gave my party and I a sample of sauces to try. I liked this place, but personally, it isn't on my "go-to list" though it is very delicious! Don't let the casual atmosphere of the decor fool you. The food quality is excellent! Following the Uber-trendy Chipotle model, they offer something for everyone. Allegedly, the most popular item is their bowl (we each had one ... (the protein challenge I did this week was a fantastic pregame!!!) a gyro and a falafel. I opted for rice while Mark enjoyed his over lettuce. I chose hummus, while he got a cucumber salad with feta and black olives (toppings sold separately. You can even order Ala Carte (like we did for the dolmas - grape leaves). Seriously, if you're in the mood for Mediterranean, this place won't disappoint! This a nice, clean, friendly staffed restaurant. What brings it down from 5 stars to just 3? The gyro meat is now from frozen stock. Gone are the standing rotisserie's (due to cost?). If your going to pay upwards of $8 for a gyro...you want freshly cooked gyro meat. This gyro meat lacked flavour and texture. The gyro meat was not enjoyable. All "serious" mediterranean restaurants in our community respect it's patrons desire to eat freshly cooked rotisserie gyro meat. Chello Grill is a Persian restaurant with lots of unique flavors and dishes. Most sauce/"side dish" options are vegetarian and many are also vegan. Some will not be familiar to the palate of many Americans, so do be aware of that, but it's a good place for trying totally new flavors. You can also get small sizes to try something out if you're not sure if you'll like it. The restaurant is bright and clean, upscale casual. It feels like a chain but is local. There are various desserts and a lot of tea and other drink options as well. The falafel and flatbread are nice. Not the same as at middle eastern restaurants, but pretty tasty and good portion size. read more

I had friends visiting for a wedding and we had one woman who has very bad celiac disease and we decided to come to Chello for lunch (I had found you through searching on yelp). She was a bit leary because she had been to restaurants that said they were gluten free but weren't very careful with their practices in cross contamination and she would get sick. Well to make a long story short we all enjoyed your food very much and our friend had a wonderful visit and did not get sick. She went back to Fargo North Dakota and is still talking about Chello Grill and how impressed she was with your restaurant and how great an experience she had and wish she had places like Chello where she lives. Ugh. I want to like this place so much. Tonight I ordered a chicken kabob, vegetable kabob, and unsweetened iced tea from them via GrubHub. First of all, my order was half an hour late because they were so behind in orders. Then I finally got my order and it was covered in some sort of corn/tomato salad that I never ordered or wanted. The chicken kabob only had 4 very small pieces of chicken and two of them were completely raw inside. Disgusting! The vegetable kabob actually had a ton of veggies despite being much cheaper than the chicken kabob. However, the veggies were barely cooked. The zucchini and yellow squash were completely raw and barely browned around the edges. They crunched when I bit into them. Same with the green chile. The only thing edible were the tomatoes and iced tea. Very disappointed. read more

Went for mid-afternoon meal with a friend from out of town. It was quiet and clean. As with many places, they had some new staff. Food was fresh. My tomato and eggplant dip was mostly tomato, canned. No taste or consistency suggesting eggplant. I was underwhelmed. Hummus was fresh, flavorful (cumin and garlic), more chunky style than most, and excellent. Pita was home-made. Backlava not crisp, but goood filling. I wish that they would serve in- restautant eaters on (at least) their paper plates rather than individual plastic to-go container. They would not do it. I do know that places can't keep dishwashers these days, so that may be part of the reason. But for me, using all plastic in a place that is not on a highway is a deal-breaker for in-restaurant eating. I would come back if they changed this. read more

Nice Middle Eastern restaurant. We ordered at the counter and had it for takeout. However dining in is available. I had the Chello Bowl in which you create your own dish by picking a base, protein and a topping. I had a half rice and half lettuce base with Falafel topped with Mirza Ghasemi sauce (eggplant and tomato sauce), feta cheese and olives. It was very good and affordable too. We were intrigued by the dessert so we had the Baklava Cheesecake. It was light and fluffy cheesecake topped with a layer of Baklava. It was very good! The service was outstanding. I noticed it did get a Best in City award twice a couple of years ago. We will definitely go back. The ambiance isn't really Middle Eastern but the food definitely is. read more

Prices have gone up since the posted menu pictures. It was my first visit and I was excited to try whatever they had. I got two chello doh plates to go. I got the chicken/steak kabobs on one plate and chicken/lamb on the other (lamb an upcharge of $4) which is a lot considering the already high prices. I also had the stuffed dates which were phenomenal. I did enjoy my kabobs but they took awhile for them to cook hence the freshness of the ingredients. We also got a total of four sides to go with our plates. We had the popular hummus and mast o khiar (cucumber Yogurt dip) along with two soups. The plates also come with saffron rice, grilled veggies and fresh naan. Everyt hing was packaged very well in a big paper bag. While waiting we were also given a free sample of fesenjan which was delicious. Next time I plan to order that as one of my sides. For the price this would be a once in awhile kind of visit. Since they only use persian name for this place rather then persian food and I was driving I order the only persian idem on their Manu the so called kabob koobidah and was extremely disappointed since it wasn't even close to a persian koonida. The place has plenty of seating and it is always nice when they have their own parking. We ordered the plate with one protein and one side. I had the chicken and had the eggplant dish for my side. The plate also came with rice, veggies and a pita. Be warn that the green pepper is not bell pepper, it is green Chile. If you don't like spicy stuff, do not eat the green pepper. The portions are big. My husband got the gyro and it came with a side of fries. It was huge, two people can share it. Be warn though that the can of soda will cost you almost $2 each so maybe opt for a water or bring your own drink. The baklava cheesecake was good and it was a nice note to end for our dinner. The single dolma included with the meal was poorly wrapped and fell apart, and the additional falafel that was ordered and paid for was not included with the meal. While visiting from out of town, I was ecstatic to find a halal kebab spot. Our meals were SO fresh and delicious! Every element of the dish added so much flavor, and the sides were fantastic. I had the koobideh with mirza ghasemi on the side. Delicious!! The naans were served in a ziplock bag, which was a little unusual but they were good. We wanted to go back literally the next day. My friends and I visited Chello Grill for dinner because one of our friends played music at the restaurant. We were there around 6pm and the place was empty. That said, the place started to pick up around 7pm. The menu was extensive and some menus were affordable. The best value meal would be the combo ones. I ordered the Mediterranean salad with a chicken kebob and a cup of soup. The soup was very tasty and very hearty! I would get the soup again the next time I eat here again. The chicken kebob was also very noisy and juicy. I liked the seasonings on the chicken as well. If possible, the restaurant could provide half of the pita bread for soup. Chello Grill is definitely pretty, and I could see it being a great, moderately-priced, business-casual place to do lunch meetings or grab some grub with co-workers if you're based in the surrounding area. They even have notices that say they deliver. The actuality of that delivery is suspect, however. Raz works within the noted delivery area and tried to get delivery for his department two days prior to our check-in. The Chello Grill website denied available delivery, as did the counter staff on that date when the failed web ordering was followed by a phone call. Thus, we found ourselves inside for an evening meal, having a little time to kill and some pretty well-honed hunger to blunt. We got an order of Garlic-feta fries each, and Raz got a salmon kebab as well. Of course, this was after we got completely confused by the layout of the place and went to the wrong part of the counter, then completely shut down operations by asking some questions about the posted delivery information that the counter staff had apparently never been briefed on. I have to say, Raz's little chunks of salmon were about half-again as much as we've paid for kebab anywhere in Albuquerque. Fortunately the red and white-meat options are significantly more reasonable for the portions. The Garlic-Feta Fries were spot-on, some of the better gourmet fries I've tried. I've been agonizing over whether to make this review 3 or 4 stars for over a week now because the food is really very good, and the location quite aesthetically pleasing. The misleading delivery adverts, confusing layout without clear directional signage, and the high price:portion ratio finally settled my debate on 3. I'm not likely to frequent Chello since they're out of my way, but Raz was significantly impressed with the quality of the food and is likely to try for delivery to work again. If the delivery issue gets worked out, I'll no doubt have opportunity to revise my opinion in the near future. read more

Not just one of the best Persian/Mediterranean meals I've had in awhile, but one of the better meals I've had in Albuquerque in awhile! It's a little more of a fast food walk up platform which isn't my favorite especially for a dinner setting but it's not that big a deal. Other thing I'm not crazy about is paper plates and plastic forks, possible a COVID audible they called, but to me it kinda takes a bit of the magic outta the experience. The restaurant itself is bright and very inviting, you can tell its A new place that has had some love. But when it comes to what's important, the food, They really shine! The feta fries were crispy and deliciously seasoned with dill and lemon, despite's being fried potatoes they felt light and refreshing yet filling. The chicken kebab was delicious as we're the veggies! The best of what I had was definitely one of the Persian side dishes, I can't remember the name but it was a green stew with beef and dried Persian limes, totally an authentic dish that was fire! The hummus was also addicting, a little thicker but tons of flavor. Wasn't a fan of their bread that comes with number combo, it was a little thin and couldn't hold up to the sauces and dips opposed to their pita they have. The rice I thought could use a little more seasoning as well, but all in all not much to complain about this is a solid lunch and takeout place! They have some very authentic options at a reasonable price point for our day and age. Defiantly gonna be one of my regular stomping grounds. read more

What I got was 5 pieces of chicken with salad and a dressing that was too spicy. The chicken was a little dry. Was really looking forward to the grilled vegetables not romaine lettuce and cucumber salad. I ordered salad as well which we didn't eat since there was so much salad with the chicken. We also ordered the falafel appetizer that was really good and quite frankly salvaged the meal. Was embarrassed as my friend was over and I would have liked to impress her rather than watch her remove all the romaine from her plate. Good falafel is NOT enough for me to return.
