Chelo's is a local chain of family type restaurants in Rhode Island. They offer a large menu ranging from appetizers like quesadillas to large seafood dishes like cod and fish and chips. This last time I got their steak tip salad and it was large and yummy. The meat was marinated beautifully, although I did find one or two pieces that were a bit chewy. Overall not a bad dish. They also have many daily and weekly specials on their menu to please many customers. read more

Always great service. Very adaptable for those who have gluten intolerance or are vegan or vegetarian. We go here to eat lunch or get a meal to go once or twice a a week. Portions are generous. Food is consistently good. Find those menu items you like and just keep coming back for them. Desserts are huge and also delicious. The manager Barry is very hospitable and welcoming and always ensures that guests are satisfied! Been coming here for 20+ years and have not seen the deterioration of quality that has become a sad standard in the US. We went out this evening to redeem one of our coupons my burger passport it was all that and then some. My honey got the bacon burger it was awesome it was cooked exactly the way we like it everything came out very hot fresh with very little wait. I ordered their half dozen clam cakes they gave me seven which was perfect because I love them they are so full with clams not a lot of seasons and not spicy or anything really taste good. Period we got a beverage so what is it we're OK normal soda. The waitress service was wonderful she kept coming back and checking on us but she wasn't like hovering like annoying us like being that too much it was just perfect. Chelos is a great spot if you're looking for some homemade dishes! I can highly recommend their French meat pie- it's so good! Last night I got an order of onion rings, they were delicious and came out quickly. They don't serve them with a dipping sauce, but the bartender "Wes", brought me some chipotle type sauce and that was perfect! Also had their buffalo chicken salad, it was ok. Three chicken tenders, a bunch of lettuce, a little cucumber, onion, and a few cherry tomatoes with some blue cheese crumbs. I think they could glam it up a bit, maybe add some croutons, peppers, celery and carrots? $11+ was a little pricey for a lack luster salad. Desserts are always amazing here, and well worth either saving some room for one, or taking it to-go! I had a "Spiked Arnold Palmer" to drink, it was very good! read more

My wife and I got takeout here the other night. It was probably the worst meal I have ever had and I have had some garbage meals. All the other Chelo's we have been to have been fantastic. But my god this place was awful. I went to pick up the meal on the way back from work. I picked it up and I should have opened the bag and inspected all the food because no one cares anymore (it's also disgusting that in 2022 restaurant staff are paid a literal slaves wage) But after working my butt off for 12 hours I did not have the energy to do so. We ordered Buffalo tenders, Butter nut squash pasta, a burger and garlic knot meatball sliders. I get home and plop the take away meal down. FIrst and foremost I open it and see the buffalo tenders are not buffalo.....ok what ever mistakes happen. When I opened them they seemed like they were old and overcooked but had cooled down and were tossed in the microwave before they sent them out. They were disgusting. The butternut squash pasta. I'm from a Mediterranean family. I'm a pasta expert. I know what Al Dente is. This was not Al Dente pasta. This was uncooked pasta. The meal description makes this seem like it's supposed to be a hot meal. But we were given uncooked pasta, uncooked raw squash, and uncooked pumpkin seeds. What the heck?! Absolutely disgusting. The side salad was also full of rotten lettuce. This place needs a visit from the health inspector. Typically the burgers from Chelos are great. However tonight the burger was bland. I ordered it medium well. It was cold and pink in the center. The onion rings on the burger were undercooked and my fries were also very undercooked. It was like a mid grade room service burger. I had to fire up my grill and cook it. Medium well is slightly different from medium rare, or rare. I should not have to cook my food after I got it. The garlic knot sliders. The meatballs were cooked and tasty. However the garlic knots were soggy and wet and unheated. You would think with takeout you would het up the garlic knots so they would not become soggy. However it was just raw and soggy garlic knot. Very disappointing. We called to complain. But here's the kicker the online ordering they have now runs through door dash. So you have to spend a half hour on the phone with Chelos in order for Chelos to tell you to complain to Door Dash, and that was another fun 20 minutes. The Chelos manager we spoke with apologized. But did not offer anything to make this F up better. Inflation is rampant, bad food service is everywhere as restaurants treat food workers like slaves. But come on offer something to get me to come back, not leave a bunch of negative reviews all over the place and tell everyone about how your food is disgusting. Door dash only refunded us for 2/3 of our meal. They also let Chelos keep the generous tip. Absolutely disgusting. Tipping someone for giving us uncooked and rotten food. I will tell everyone who will listen that this place is a disaster. read more

Absolutely terrible. This was our 3rd or 4th visit to this location, I believe. We have never been blown away with excitement, but it was always average. Today? Awful. Just awful. Short staffed because they were not able to seat us (or others after us) where we wanted to be seated because they had no staff in those sections. So we were seated in the "tiny booth" section we hate. The tables are tiny and very tight, even for average sized folks. One party that came in after us basically has to slide into the booth sideways and turn, they are so tight and small. But food and service was just not good at all. The "all you can eat chicken" Sunday special was inedible. Never offered any more than we originally were served (would have gotten more salad because the chicken was cooked beyond being edible). My husband went to eat a chicken wing and there was NO meat on it because it was cooked into oblivion. Awful. Our waitress never once cleared ANYTHING on the table beside one beer mug. Empty soda glasses? No. Finished plates with napkins on them? Nope. We sat there with dirty plates until we left. She didn't seem the least bit familiar with the menu, either. New? No idea. But spending $100 on very sub par food ignited some irritation in me for sure. We will NOT go back to any location ever again. This was just terrible. With prices as high as they are everyone (and I get it, that's how it is and I understand why), we expect decent food if we are dishing out $100-$140 for pub fare food and beer/soda. Gentleman at host stand was VERY friendly, though. Huge disappointment all around. I enjoy getting the appetizer sampler, it's my favorite. We usually go on a Monday night because we have a sitter. It's never busy on Mondays. There are some meals that taste too salty but never the chicken pot pie. Definitely have a dessert! Their cheesecake or carrot cake are our favorites. I like that it has good lighting. I'm not interested in dimly lit restaurants. Most servers are good and attentive. Prices are decent as well. read more

Don't waste your time, consistently gives out time frames for takeout that are completely in accurate. For example when you order at 5:11 PM and they say 20 minutes. "Invisible" I walked in by myself today at 4:30, Monday May 15th and stood next to the host podium as I have done in the past. There was no one at the podium, but there were two employees attending the to-go order and pick up desk a few feet in front of me, a bartender serving a nearly full bar to my left and several servers and a lady dressed like a hostess or manager walking back and forth from the dining room to my right and into the kitchen. 5 minutes go by and I start trying to make eye contact with someone, but can't seem to attract any attention. Ok, maybe just a busy moment or a shift change? So I continue to be patient and wait. A couple walks in from behind me and sits at the bar. I would do the same at this point, but bar stools aren't currently an option for me and my back sciatica. A few more minutes pass and I decide to make a gesture of patting myself down in jest to check and see if I'm visible to myself. I take a photo of myself with my phone just as a man enters from behind and asks If I am waiting in a line to pick up a to-go order. I answer most audibly that I am waiting for someone to seat me at a table in the dining room and that he can walk ahead of me to the to-go desk. The photo I took was a good one and the interaction with the customer confirms that I am not invisible after all! What a relief! I shrug my shoulders and with my arms wide and palms extended, I turn to the left, and turn to the right in one last gesture for recognition to no avail, then turn and exit the building. Could I have called out to someone? Sure, but I know I was seen, so what's the point. Why else would I be standing by the host station? None of the employees I saw during my wait asked if I was taken care of, nor did anyone who passed by, make eye contact or simply indicate that someone would be right with me. The dining room was not that busy. I live about a half mile from this restaurant and I had walked there today. Frustrated, and still hungry, I decided to walk toward Bellingham, past my building and about a mile farther down the street to Bellingham Palace, just across the state line in Massachusetts. It took me just a little more time to walk there as I had waited to not be seated at Chelos in Woonsocket. On the walk, the song "Invisible" by Alison Moyet went through my head. Arrived at Bellingham Palace where you seat yourself. I was waited on immediately and was served a very large delicious Southwest Chicken Salad within @7 minutes after my lovely server took the order. I paid my check and was out the door by 5:45. Even got some good exercise on a beautiful spring evening to boot, so I suppose that's worth the star in this review. Zero stars for this particular experience at Chelos however, even though I've had some decent ones in the past with both the employees and the food. Off day maybe? Should I wear sequins next time? I ordered the Chicken Parm Sandwich w/ mashed potatoes and I have to say I was very happy that I ordered it. Very good flavor and it was only $7.99. The waiter was also very good and seemed to like his job and wasn't miserable like most of the waiters in the area, so it made things pleasant. The past few times my husband and I have had dinner at the Woonsocket location, it's been disappointing. The food is fine but the portion of their desserts have gotten smaller while the price has increased. Tonight, our server Josiah never brought the salad that was included with my meal, didn't come back to check on us, so I couldn't ask for grated cheese and we sat there waiting for her to take the money to pay our bill and my husband ended up going to the counter to pay and they wouldn't give him the change. We had to wait at the table for our server to bring it. I mentioned the issues to the manager on the way out and she had a couldn't care less attitude.
