After years of successful gift giving with Chelsea Market Baskets (CMB), I sent a $345.00 gift basket (includes tax and shipping) to an extremely important client. It arrived the very next day, and was delivered to the company, but not the person receiving the gift. There were perishables inside, cheeses, Brie, fruits, chocolates, but the box did NOT have "perishable" written anywhere. So, anyone receiving the box would not know that it needed to be opened right away, even if it landed in their office. After so many years of shipping hundreds of thousands of baskets, do you think they could slap a sticker on the box, to alert people that there's Brie cheese inside? Or "open immediately? " I called CMB to ask them if they put a sticker on it, and they told me it's not something they do and that she would talk to the Supervisor about it. Uhm, yes. This would be the smart thing to do. This forced me to have to call my client 28 hours later, to ask them whether they received my gift. It's an awkward phone call to make, "did you get my gift?" Not something the gift giver should have to do. We send out dozens of gifts, and when I hadn't received a "thank you" message a day later, it concerned me That the box could have been sitting in the warehouse, and it was. I actually received one of these as a gift! The packaging was absolutely beautiful- cute! My complain regarding thing would be how the snacks were packed though. The shortbread cookies on the side were kinda broken because the packing wasn't well suited to the delicate nature of the snacks inside. Broken or not, the food was definitely very tasty and I enjoyed it. The picnic basket is very light weight and not meant to be super sturdy that you can toss around recklessly, but strong enough for a light picnic (sandwiches, small snacks and etc). I received a lot of compliment for the basket as it is very classy and elegant. If you are gifting it, I recommend dusting off/clean up the glasses in the basket so it looks extra sharp. I'm really upset... Placed an order at 9am and was told same day delivery if it is done before 1pm. Never got the confirmation email. Asked that it be done expedited. Its 3:33 and its still not at its destination. For special requests I put deliver before 3:30. Whats the point of paying so much for a courier if it does not get to where it needs to be on time. The customer service here is great called and got updates and received a call back as requests.. however there is no way to track the item and know when it has reached its destination. The guy even called me back once it was delivered to let me know that it was done. I think for the price the in store service is great but the delivery service and coordination - not so much. They charge so much and couldn't even get the order right - honestly - disappointed! They forgot the tea- this is a get well basket specifically for being sick how do you forget one of the base ingredients. Refund was $3 for the tea- really that's all? I've spent more time on the phone calling to follow up throughout the day than anything else. They substituted the James White Organic Apple and Crushed Ginger juice for rasberry - granted they claim it says substitutions will happen in a disclaimer on the email confirmation which i never got - but the whole point of a get well basket is to have things that will fight colds like ginger and lemon and tea. Finally got the email resent to me now along with my supposed refund post delivery post mess-up! read more

Thankfully I haven't reached the Gift Basket phase some women go through, but I love Chelsea Market Baskets. It's a great place for gifts (its main purpose) but an even better place for shopping for yourself! Top 3 Products: 1. Leonidas Chocolate. Amazing Belgian chocolate truffles. My favorite is the rum one. These will run you a pretty penny though. An order is weighed but each truffle usually comes out to about $1. But I'd rather pay a little more than let's say the Chocolate Bar and get something 10x better. 2. Soap. Sorry I can't be more specific here, but they sell the same soap the Details used to. The packaging considers of clear plastic wrap and the soap bars have little pieces of lavender, lemon verbena, or whatever scent it is (so they make great exfoliants). 3. Dolfin chocolate bars. I know, chocolate again, but these are so good and only $3.25 each! They come in a wide variety of flavors, my favorite is dark chocolate with ground coffee. If you can't decide you can buy bite size samples. Another plus is the packaging which is plastic and has a little flap so you can open and close it easily (that is if you don't finish it in the first sitting) without getting worried the chocolate is going to get squished in your purse and crumble out everywhere. Other items include coffee, jams, cookies, candy, more soaps and "spa" products... items you COULD group together in a themed gift basket for a friend, but end up buying for yourself even though you don't really need them. You can also send gifts from their online store (save the basket-making for someone else)! When I was at Chelsea Market, I meandered into this shop and was in visual "heaven." I had so much fun looking at all their inventory. They have gourmet foods, chocolates, cookies, NY memorabilia, spa items, basically something for everybody's taste. It was after I had been there for a little while that I realized they specialize in creating and preparing gift baskets. I thought, oh how cool. That's why they had so many different things. I bought (as token gifts for my co-workers) little boxes of animal crackers, but they had a NY street scene with a big yellow taxi on it. I thought, how cute. The gift bags were of the NY subway system. I just loved it, and so did all of them. Fast forward to when my daughter and her boyfriend were about to take the bar exam (in New York City). I knew they wouldn't eat.....no time, too nervous.... but they HAD to eat. Then, I remembered THIS place. I looked them up online, and they had a wide array of gift baskets.....for any event, with a price range that was quite affordable. I ordered from CMB a huge basket of all kinds of goodies, salty foods, sweet, healthy foods, and junk. CMB delivered it to their hotel exactly as I asked, and my daughter later told me, everything had arrived in perfect condition. She and her boyfriend LOVED all the foods in it, and they've since gone back to the store to buy some of their favorite items. I have purchased other gift baskets from them since then, and they've been delivered all over the place. They do a very professional job, and they stand behind their products........and their shipping. I know, because my daughter ordered from them to have it delivered to me for my birthday. Admittedly, most of the items happened to arrive broken (not the norm), but when my daughter called to tell them, they immediately offered to replenish them or issue a refund. I got these crazy Kenyan coffee beans that had cool packaging. It was in this giant box with some paper figures on the box. I have never seen this coffee anywhere else. Usually coffee beans are sold in bags... I also got this gourmet licorice as a gift. It was in this fancy plastic jar. This stuff is not the cheapest obviously but they make great gifts! read more

I was a bit overwhelmed when I walked into the store but as soon as Tiffany started helping me I knew I would leave with what I wanted. When I told her my budget but that I wasn't good at assembling a basket she said "don't worry, I will help you". She patiently took me around the store and we assembled basket contents that had the right amount of everything and literally hit my budget bang on. They offer same day service I placed the order at around 6:00 PM , the night before, on line. It was a 174$ Gourmet Basket for opening night on Broadway. A man called at 10:40 in the morning , said he didn't think he could get the stuff. I had no time to deal with it, asked him what to do , he said someone will do it, it never showed up till the next day , was a puny little basket and by the time I saw it it had things I can get from Duane Read, Oreos, mnm's , Girodelli chocolates from drugstore..... appalling. Scammers. This involves their online store. I placed an order in early June for Broderick's Chocolate Rocky Road Mini Bites, which states on their website "Comes with 2 pouches, each with 6 individually wrapped bars." Since I order 3 quantity, it should be 36 bars total. This was also the second time I ordered from them, so i knew what to expect. Rather, they mailed me 6 bars total, or 30 less than I ordered. I called right away on June 14 and spoke with "Brian" who apologized, said he would look into it, refund my money and get back to me. I heard nothing and nearly a week later on June 20, the charge was still not reversed. I called again and they told me they processed the refund on June 19. So they failed to deliver what they advertised, failed to refund my money in a timely fashion (as promised, if at all), and failed to follow-up or make it right. Pisspoor. read more

Fun store to walk around when you're at Chelsea Market -- they have a lot of cute and quirky gifts as well as jams, chocolates, and other treats. My friends and I bought a basket here a few years for a friend who was doing a gluten-free diet. It came with a lot of different snacks and made a great birthday gift. I don't know, I would vote 2.5 if I could because I'm conflicted. I thought the basket was fantastic, and the woman over the phone was very sweet and helpful. The basket was ready for pick up 4 hours after I ordered which was great. They are not the cheapest but the basket was worth it - I paid $190 for a nice large kosher Shiva basket for a colleague. When I picked it up, however, I went downstairs to retrieve it and was a little surprised at how much it weighed. It had to have been 35-40lbs and I explained I had a bad back, so asked if I could use their elevator, but was told no. I asked again and the lady looked to someone else for guidance and they both shook their heads. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I am 99% certain I saw an elevator in the back and it makes sense that they would not use the tiny spiral staircase for supplies. I am really not sure why someone could not accompany me upstairs with the basket. Completely unreasonable and I probably should have gone with my gut and demanded a refund. Of course, getting into the cab when I left, I injured my back! The sheer apathy of these people really took me by surprise since they were so nice and helpful over the phone. I would possibly recommend this place to others, with the warning that they should be prepared to lug the basket up a tiny spiral staircase with zero help from the staff. read more
