Shawna turned me into a mermaid princess. Not many stylists can cut wavy/ curly hair to maximize its body and potential. Most will just give you a straight girl's haircut and you will have to mess with it to get it to comply. I'm low maintenance. I want to wake up with my hair looking good already. No styling, no brushing. She took a ridiculous amount of time with me. She asked me what I wanted to improve and if I wanted any education on certain products. Not pushy, very knowledgeable. I woke up after last night's shower with my waves coming in full force. She recommended that I put in product in the shower before I towel dry. It worked. Brianne has over 20 years of experience and is originally from San Diego. She is a down to earth chick who is really skilled in what she does. I went to 2 different stylists before her, showing pictures and asking for a "shaggy cut" with bangs that were thicker so they laid right and framed my face the right way since I have a rounder face, and no one cut my bangs the way I asked. After being referred to Brianne, I decided to take a chance at another stylist but I was starting to give up hope... that is until she quite literally blew my mind and expectations out of the water. I knew my long thick hair needed more time and she didn't rush through my cut even though we went over our time. I am so beyond happy with the service I get from Jen Utley. I have gone to various hairstylists and she by far is the best I have ever gone to. She really listens to what you want; not to mention my hair always looks perfect right after it's cut and I don't feel like my hair needs to grow out for a few weeks to look natural again. As someone with long, natural hair, this place is a great balance of competitive pricing and excellent service. I feel like it's very hard in the Portland area to find a place that will service a regular haircut (at a reasonable price) though they also have great options for coloring as well! This salon is great. Very clean, open, airy, and has great lighting. They also have complimentary tea and coffee. It feels very comfortable in there without feeling too sterile. They use amazing, high quality products and their Kevin Murphy shampoos smell like heaven! I've been seeing Jenaya for 3+ years but she just moved to this salon. Jenaya is excellent when it comes to all things hair. Short hair, long hair, curly hair, fine hair, pin-straight hair. She's turned me blonde, ombre, pink, purple, dark brown, light brown, and every cut in between from short to long to layered. She's a hair magician! In addition to being kind, warm-hearted, funny, professional, intelligent, thoughtful, interested, did I say funny, and hard-working, she is a H A I R W I Z A R D. People, we are talking magic. I haven't had a cut or color that elevated my look like this before. Like I'm actually a just a cooler person now. And my hair is gorgeous. COLOR: Perfect balayage. To look natural and yet noticeable. A nuance that takes a lot of skill to achieve. Ash is very professional and clearly knows a lot about color. She seems to enjoy the science, something I don't see often in a color specialist. In my very first visit I noticed she cares about preserving the integrity of your hair besides achieving the best result. Her knowledge of the chemical process and her ability to create the perfect results make her a mad scientist! I've had a lot of color done. I've had mediocre stylists and I've had great stylists. I never knew that there was a higher level of beautiful work and color that could be attained. CUT: I was impressed with her Instagram originally and was excited to have her give me a simple *seemlingly* straightforward-normal haircut but that was this kind of tough and secretly rock n roll. Something I didn't have to style, but that looked rad when I tried to. Like for events and stuff. I'm a professional designer and I need to look like it sometimes. I came to the conclusion recently that I really just enjoy keeping my hair black and at first was very torn about going to the salon but at the end of the day I am very happy with the way it turned out and glad I came in! I came to chelsea salon by recommendation of my boyfriend and had Shauna color my hair. I had the stylist use OLAPLEX with black hair dye. Afterwords she used a treatment that she called agave. Not sure if that's the brand or what its made with but it seemed to help a bit. Overall my hair feels really nice. Instead of using heat like a typical stylist always does with my hair type, she is trained in curly girl and used divacurl products on my hair while refraining from using too much heat and actually asked me how I wanted to style my hair and showed me how to use some leave in products to help with my dryness from previous henna and indigo treatments. She used a diva curl cream and gel on my hair, feels nice and better than the current products I'm using so far, but she also said I could use the creams and a gel I have at home and get similar results, and showed me what to do with my stuff at home. I told her I wanted to grow to TBL or as long as my hair would go and intend to stick with Shauna as I think the stylists here will actually help you reach your goals and get healthy beautiful hair! I also had her trim my bangs. They had gotten really really long. I really am happy with how it turned out and will return! read more

Sarah McVicar is a GEM! She's a hair genius. I feel comfortable walking in and allowing her to take control of this mane (or snarled mess, mostly). Her ability to match my existing color and assist in the transition to my desired blonde has been magical. Then we decided to try extensions. Brilliant! I have more length, volume and confidence. It's been the most fun I've ever had with my own (and some generous tape-in extensions) hair. The style now stays in what was my limp, lack of volume hair; I have far less tangled and it's much easier to manage. Sarah has always been my hair angel, but since these extension additions she deserves another pair of wings. I had reservations of trying extensions. How? What? Will they be left snuggled alone on my pillow as I leave for work in the dawn? Nope. These suckers are stuck with me. Will it take me longer to get ready? Uh, not at all. I haven't imagined I could go days without washing. My hair isn't nearly as oily. Can I touch them? Yes, run your hands through these lovely strands. Can people tell they aren't mine? My housemate is a hairdresser, I have friends in my social circle that are as well. No one would ever freaking guess. We've fooled them all. Ha! And I can't stop playing with my hair. Ok, I get nervous going to get my hair done. I've spent post-hair cut moments in tears before and while I'm generally laid back - with my hair, I'm kind of stressed out. So I really appreciated Ash's ability to communicate and actually thought partner WITH me instead of trying to pull rank as a hair person and talk me into something I'm not going to love down the line. She didn't come across like she knew better, buuuut in the end she did actually invent a great style for me. The best part is that she actually helped me come up with a concept that was new to me, but still totally within my comfortable place. It's not basic either, it's totally unique, has some attitude and is sexy AF. But still normal, ya know?
