We found this place thanks to Yelp, and liked it so much we ate breakfast here twice during our Newport vacation last week. The first day, there was only one waitress, but she was nice and did a good job managing everything. She was there the second day, along with another waitress who was equally nice, friendly, and did just as good of a job. The menu's up on the wall, including daily specials offerings. Between the two mornings, we'd tried the blueberry pancakes (loads of fresh blueberries!), chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, an egg and cheese on an English muffin sandwich, and a chorizo sausage, jack cheese, onions, and peppers omelet with home fries, and raisin toast. Everything was cooked perfectly and served quickly. The decaf coffee was also yummy both days. Prices are reasonable and a good value. Fyi...this place is cash-only. read more

Beside the friendly service, there's not much positive to say. Eggs Benedict with hash was mediocre at best. Tasted like canned hash. I had scrambled eggs, which were good. Bacon was terrible & potatoes were nothing to speak of. The bathroom is located IN the kitchen. Pretty gross. read more

I could smell the bacon and eggs cooking ... what a great scent! Anyhow, on to the food! I had a Hawaiian (spelled incorrectly in the restaurant) Omelette ... ham, pineapple, onions and green peppers. It sounded so great. It ended up being an average omelette. Same goes for the home fries that came with the meal. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. For some reason, the food didn't have that special "zing". It's hard to get that with breakfast ... but, that's what I expect out of a place that LOOKS the part. People here are nice though! Very nice and attentive servers. My only complaint with this place, which I enjoyed the meal don't get me wrong but I feel having menus is quite necessary , you never know if someone has trouble seeing or just the fact we had to stand behind people eating to read the menu that is posted above on a white board. It's more of a homestyle restaurant the food comes out quickly and the staff is friendly. We had 3 breakfasts and coffee for $22 and change. The chourico (pronounced chareese) omelet was a little thin on the sausage but it was minced the way I like it. No complaints with the two eggs over easy with bacon and the 3 stack pancakes. Great breakfast spot if you are looking for diner food. The service is fast, prices are cheap and the food is good! They mix chorizo in to a lot of their items like the hash and omelets which may not be unique for the area but it sure is appreciated! Meh. Hash browns were nothing but dried up diced potatoes. The sausage had a strange flavor..like burnt butter. My omelet was ok because it was cheesy. My rye toast came on a tiny paper plate. We recently had a disappointing interaction here that caused me to update my previous review. On our last visit here and we come here often the waitress accused us of short changing out bill. She said we'd done it numerous times but no one said anything. My husband has always paid at the register and there's no way he could short change them if they give them the total right there. It was so offensive considering how often we've eaten there. We're not from around here and we thought we were welcomed at this place but after this interaction we will not be going back. We're military and people of color so to be accused of something like this could have serious consequences. It's so scary and frankly offensive that I feel like I needed to say something. read more

Having gone from weekender, to island resident, I waffle on my feelings about Chelsea's. I love that they know me when I walk in, if only because my fiance grew up here. I love that we can catch up on personal stuff with the gang here when they are slow enough to chat for a few minutes (which really doesn't happen all that often). However, I too miss that particular "zing" Andrew F. mentioned regarding great breakfast. The food is good, don't get me wrong. It's just not that perfect, wow, out of this world amazing, I hope for in a diner setting. Cash only, so we are often swinging by the ATM on our way over. It's small, and roomy isn't a word I would use, so if it's packed, you are close to your neighbors (but since they are sometimes actually your neighbors, most people don't mind). At the end of the day there is something to be said for the familiar. From the way the staff is constantly greeting the regulars, they must be doing something right! read more

The other four star reviews are generally fair and on the mark, so I decided to do the same, although my first inclination was to go with three stars. The reason is I have a thing about making sure eggs for scrambled or omelets are whisked thoroughly enough to make sure no egg whites are visible. They were in my omelet which, for my personal quirk, is off-putting. But the service was fast, attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere very comfortable and neighborly. One tip, be sure to pay close attention to its location on your GPS, because if a truck parks in front of their sign,it's easy to go past the restaurant. read more

I'm only giving one star because 'No Stars' isn't an option. Normally we would've eaten at our favorite breakfast spot closer to town, but being July 4th weekend, they were busy so we ended up at Chelsea's. Our experience might've been mediocre at best, if it wasn't for our waitress, who had black and blonde hair and tattoos. No "Good morning" or "How are you today?", instead she decided to start off with "What are you drinking?" Um, ok. Don't get mad at ME because it's a beautiful day and you're stuck working. When the food finally came out, the potatoes were bland and undercooked, after I had nicely asked for them to be crispy and we had to wait for silverware. Went in on a Saturday morning around 10 and there were many open tables. We got a Greek omelette and the "2-2-2" French toast, eggs and bacon. Omelette was meh, super flat and not a lot of flavor.
