This is a hole in the wall, no frills spot serving authentic South Indian cuisine. We got the butter chicken, which was great, and the goat korma which was ok. I spent more time picking out many bones than actually eating, and there seemed to be more bones/fat than meat. I wanted to expand my boundaries so that's okay. The sauce was excellent though. The boba is mostly milk not much tea. We got take out as it seems most people do, but there are a few booths for inside seating. The staff were very nice in taking our order and helping us decide what to get. I will try a different dish next time but will def be back read more

Best South Indian food out there. Worth the drive we took to try their dosas for a live dosa station we are planning to have at our family gathering in summer. Ended up also trying their unlimited Sunday lunch thali meals - which was an unexpected pleasant experience! The staff who took the orders, who served the food and the chef - everyone is very friendly and provided professional and great service. Authentic food popping with spice and flavor? Don't let the converted convenience store vibe deter you. You can, in fact, dine in and have a sit down meal there. The decor consists of partially empty convenience store shelves, which I suppose have items like candy, toothpaste, and other snacks which I suppose you could buy. But you didn't arrive for convenience. You came to have some darn good lip-smacking food. (I do believe they also have a popsicle or ice cream freezer last time I checked, as well as a neon sign that can be seen from the road.) Of the many times I have ordered takeout from this establishment (I have never eaten there), out of the last few times I went, they had mentioned a tweaked menu, and dare I say, the service may have improved? As in, if you had never been here previously, and you walked in as I had done my first time there, you would have been confused as to what the exact protocol was: where do you place your order? Who do you talk to? Where do you pay? At least now there is a semblance of someone greeting you, which is an improvement. But even without that, I would still come here to grab several bites to bring home: soft, fluffy, delicious samosas (something about their dough and seasoning is just right), chicken 65, ghobi 65, and of course all their other flavorful dishes on their menu (which has changed few times). read more

This little place is well deserving of its 5 star rating from everyone!! The food is phenomenal!! They say that the best food often come from hole-In-the-walls. Chennai Tiffins definitely lives up to this reputation! Eating with a group of people is more pleasurable when you get a variety of dishes to share. We ordered (feeds up to 4 people): 1. Chettinad Chicken Biryani that my hubby loved. We added the yogurt chutney, which made it taste even better. 2. Chicken Ghee Roast--stellar, mouthwatering dish; boneless chicken served with plain basmati rice. This is a MUST TRY. It's probably the best dish on the menu. 3. Onion Pakoras-- crispy deep fried onions, great for dipping in a variety of chutney. 4. Ask for Yogurt sauce to add to the chicken biryani dishes or as a dip for the pakoras. 5. Saag paneer--creamy spinach with cheese perfectly pairs with a side of 6. Naan or paratha, ordered separately. 7. Mango lassi--flavored with a touch of cardamom and comes in a small cup, but it's super concentrated. I transferred it into a large tumbler and added milk and 2 packs of sweetener. Price is a steal at only $2. Pricing in general is incredibly affordable especially for these complex yet harmonious dishes! (I'm lazy and usually cook simple dishes with only about 6-8 ingredients). Luckily for us living in Limerock, Lincoln, RI it's only a mere 6 minutes drive to Manville! Can't wait to go back often, ha ha. Very popular restaurant. Great place for authentic South Indian cuisine in RI. There's only a handful of similar places in the region. Picked up a chicken biryani and chicken ghee roast from here. Loved both of them, spice levels were on point. Prices are very reasonable. Interior may not be that great but the food is amazing. Would def recommend coming here and supporting small businesses like theirs. Hopefully, they can have food delivery service at some point. Overall great experience. read more

Whilst my partner stopped at Acoustic Java for coffee, I did a quick Yelp search and found Chennai Tiffins. I had no idea where Manville was but I wanted to go see "the men" and try Chennai. Joking aside, it looked like it was right off 146 so let's go. The spot is unassuming in fact unexpected. It's a incredibly spartan and low key with a small convenience store and a restaurant combined. Don't let the setting deter you, grab a table and get ready for taste bud explosion. Disappointed. My podi dosa and vegetable chettinad were quite bland. The chettinad is also not what I'm used to from other restaurants, it lacked that deep brown red color and looked more like a watery tumeric sauce. The carrots were still hard as well. The gobi Manchurian was ok. Mango lassi tasted nice but but had larger cardamom pieces throughout that were unpleasant to suck up through a straw. The location itself also looks unappealing. I don't want to judge too hard because I think most restaurants tend to be unsanitary (sad truth - look up Starbucks Ice), but the dirty, soaking wet mattresses outside the back in the parking lot def made me want to go home and reheat my food to cook off any bacteria. I was expecting the food to be banging with how unpleasant the place looked, you know, like true authentic taste, and maybe it is authentic I'm not from Chennai, but it certainly lacked flavor, which I've never thought before from any of the other Indian places I've tried. Continuing my wife's quest and cravings for South Indian cuisine, we tried Chennai Tiffins. It's in a quiet little residential area and its business is clearly mainly take-out, but they do have a large enough dine-in area to seat several parties comfortably. But be aware, it's in an old building and there are definitely no frills about it. I wanted to start off with their gobi manchurian but they were out of cauliflower (which surprised me a little). My wife had their masala dosa and although the filling was good, she found the crepe to be a bit thick and not quite crispy enough. The accompanying sambar and coconut chutney were excellent, however. I wanted to try their lamb or fish curries, but disappointingly again, neither were available. Feeling a little pressured to choose something (anything, and quickly, cuz their phone's ringing with take-out orders, yikes, hurry up!) by the hovering waiter, I settled on butter chicken and the Indo-Chinese vegetable fried rice. They were fine in flavor but nothing compelling enough for me to make a return visit. Their mango lassi was good and my wife's chai was outstanding (although it took a long time to prepare and was delivered by the time we were finishing our meal). Chennai Tiffins menu is not very extensive - the main focus is clearly on their dosa which was pretty good per my wife. I do not have extensive experience with Indian food. I am however a foodie, who has tasted exceptional dishes, from a variety of different cultural cuisines, all over the world. My meal at The Chennai Tiffins was delicious and in fact, unforgettable. I believe the plates that I sampled to be exemplary Southern Indian food and my partner, who has much more experience with these foods agreed energetically. The setting, inside a convienence store may seem a bit confusing and no doubt will turn a few people off... But the friendly inviting staff, rich aroma and delicious tastes quickly commanded my attention to what was really important. Give them a try and you will most likely be very glad you did. The Dosa are perfect, crispy and full of nice flavors. The sambar here is exceptionally delicious. The vada sambar appetizer is so satisfying. The Biryani is absolutely astonishing. Besides the guy behind the counter not wearing a mask (?) this place could be promising. Indian in the neighborhood and South Indian no less! Chennai doubles or triples as a grocery/ cigarette store. I hope they continue serving food and that it doesn't turn into a lottery outpost. I have to admit my hopes aren't high though. We got pakora- excellent. Masala Dhosa-very good. The sambal was spicy and excellent. Saag paneer. Fine and dandy. And a chicken tikka masala. A little salty but passable. Fluffy basamati rice and a selection of tasty sauces for the pakoras. We ordered over the phone and so when I arrived to pick up, I was thrown off by the appearance. It looked like a convenience store that went out of business but kept their kitchen running. This place is magic - unassuming web site and building but the food is so so so good. There is a lot of mediocre Indian food in the worldd, but that is not this place. Each dish was so unique and layered in its flavor and you could tell it was prepared with attention and skill. We had Vegetarian Chettinad Curry, Bhindi fry, Ennai Kathirikal Kulambu, and Thalapakatti Goat Biryano, with some extra Nann and Raita. It was so so so good.
