I forgot to take a picture before I started eating because that's how good the food was and how excited I was to try this place! I just moved to the area and tried Chen's Garden for the first time. I called to ask if I could swap the shrimp fried rice they offer with their dinner specials for just plain steamed rice (there is no option for that on their website unfortunately, thus the call). But the person who answered was very nice, hospitable, and took my request with ease. The actual store seems to be carry-out only (which is normal in the post-COVID era). But everyone seemed nice when I picked the food up and I even threw in a pack of almond cookies for the experience. I can report those cookies were fresh! And for a $1.75, I believe. I had all the sauce packets I could possibly want: Soy sauce, Sweet and Sour, and even a Hot Mustard for the egg roll. I will definitely be back and look forward to it! read more

Customer service and sanitation. My husband ordered 2 lunch specials and we got the orange chicken special and egg foo young special so we can share. I take my first bite of my egg foo young and here is the long hair special no one ever wants. I called them and the lady said what do you want me to do like three times like idk hello maybe offer me to replace my plate so when i said idk you tell me you gave me the long hair special so she transferred me to a manager that told me are you "okay"with keeping the plate like Ummmm i dont think no one will be ok with that! seemed like the conversation was going nowhere so i just said bye with no resolution. I recently ordered takeout from Chen's Garden. I have not been here in years but I wanted to get some Chinese food for my love, and she had not tried this place previously. This smallish restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall on Pulaski with three other chain food establishments, but we wanted to support a local place. They have lunch and dinner specials where you can get a main course, shrimp fried rice and egg roll. My love enjoyed her fried shrimp dinner, and the pieces of fried shrimp sure did look massive. My large order of Cantonese-style BBQ pork chow mein satisfied my craving for chow mein, though it is not as tasty as many other chow mein dishes I have sampled across Chicagoland. They did separate the pan-fried noodles in another carton from the rest of the ingredients to ensure the crispiness of the noodles. Chen's Garden serves its food in heaping portions, the pricing is reasonable, the staff whips up the orders fairly quickly, and the leftovers heat up well enough too. I hear the smoothies are pretty good, so one of these days I may have to try one. read more

I've had a lot of wings in my life, but I cannot recommend the lemon pepper chicken wings enough! They're between a two and a three - very hit or miss. I had an amazing meal there the first time but not the best service, second time the food was just awful and it was a huge disappointment because I was hoping to make this my go to carry out place. I've never thrown out so much carry out food in my life I don't think, and I hate wasting food. The food was equal parts good, bad, and worse The good: there were substantial portions for several items including the wings, chicken fried rice (small) and tomato pepper beef (large). The rice was flavorful, as were the wings and beef. The bad: the wings were covered in an oily, chili flake mixture that appears to have been thrown haphazardly onto the wings, with the two wings on the top receiving most of this mixture. The most disappointing part was the large tomato pepper beef, which was not at all flavored the way it traditionally is. What I was served was more akin to TERIYAKI steak with green peppers and tomatoes, rather than the traditional dish which uses fermented black beans. While the food was tasty I would be remiss not to express my dissatisfaction on spending so much for a meal, and receiving an integral part that was incorrectly flavored. read more

After spending four years away from Chicago in a land with no good Chinese food (seriously, wth, Austin?), I was so eager to move back to Chicago to have good Chinese food at my disposal. Except I moved out of the delivery area of my absolute favorite spot. I decided to roll the dice on the strip mall place not far from our new place, and boy am I glad I did. Chen's is tasty and comes with pretty good portions. The fried rice is really good, and plentiful. I keep craving the sweet and sour chicken here. FYI, if you order the sauce on the side (better for reheating), they'll charge ya 50 cents. Really good smoothies, too! Wish you could get them in a smaller size, though. read more

THE best Chinese food in Albany Park! I have been coming here whenever I crave Chinese food to get a quick fix and I'm never disappointed. I recommend getting the lunch or dinner special, its huge! But hey, I'm not complaining =) I usually get the General Tso's chicken dinner special. It has the perfect ratio of batter to chicken! SO GOOD! I also get their Sprimp Egg Foo Young dinner special. It comes with two patties with plenty of the sauce to drizzle onto the shrimp fried rice it comes with! Pot stickers are a bit dough-y, but the meat in them is good! I usually have no issues with this place but today when I ordered food, I choked on a piece of wire in my Singapore noodles. When I called to complain, the guy who picked up wasn't very apologetic even though he admitted fault and knew exactly what it was I choked on. The restaurant is small, like many asian take out places are. Clean shop, great food. Sweet and sour chicken is good. Sometimes a bit dry, but overall "good". He even left a surprise of a calendar on my door right before Christmas. The food is consistent and good, the portions are large and there's plenty of leftovers for the next 2 meals. The vegetables are fresh and crunchy, just the way I like them. I generally order General Tso's Chicken, Cashew Chicken and the jumbo shrimp fried rice- bonus, the jumbo shrimp are de-veined! The coupons are on the menu and accepted over the phone. Yes, the accents are thick, but the staff is friendly and will change an order or add to an order without any issues. Excellent food, huge portions, low prices. What's not to love about this place? When I first tried Chen's, I was completely amazed. I didn't expect anything special. What I got was beyond anything I imagined possible. First, the food is excellent. Not good, not great, but absolutely excellent. I've never found this high quality outside of the expensive sit-down restaurants, where they charge twice as much. I still can't believe my good luck in finding this place. I usually get the General Tso's Chicken, Orange Chicken, Twice-Cooked Pork, or pork fried rice. They're all great. Their hot wings are great; their egg rolls and pot-stickers are great. Everything I've tried so far has been great. Their prices are low, almost ridiculously low. I don't think anything there - even the large orders - costs even $10. The exception is the fried rice. An extra-large fried rice goes for $10. The portions, on the other hand, are huge, absolutely mammoth. The fried rice comes in a container that must be a quart, maybe even two (I can't tell). It has to weigh five pounds. It easily gives me 4-6 good-sized meals, more if I'm not being a pig. Large orders of other dishes give me at least three meals, sometimes four (depending on whether I'm in pig mode). All for less than $10. This is a take-out/delivery place. They've got tables if you want to eat in, but no table service. Even so, if it's not busy they bring my meal to my table anyway. Whenever I go in there, the owner greets me like a long-lost friend. Sure, he does this with everyone else, but... most place don't bother. It's just one more nice touch. Definitely give this one a try. It's well worth it. read more

We've been looking for a good Chinese food delivery option since moving to Albany Park. We found it in Chen's Garden. The prices are very reasonable, and portion sizes are huge! Not only were there enough leftovers for the next day, but also for lunch the day after that! The crab rangoons are big, had plenty of stuffing, and had a really nice crunch. The fried rice was seasoned well and had big hunks of scrambled egg, which I like. The General Tso's chicken had the perfect ratio of batter to chicken, and the sauce was excellent.
