Visited Chen's Garden tonight for takeout. (I know. How cliché can this get?) We got three meals: Sesame Chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan (with chicken), and Kung Pao Chicken. (OK. It could get more cliché after all.) I'm the Kung Pao eater and this was quite probably the best I've ever had. The chicken was quite good in all our meals. I've had the unfortunate encounter with Chinese restaurants that use poor quality chicken and hide it in overpowering sauce. We've had that often with Sesame Chicken especially. Well, there is none of that here! The chicken was very tender, no little chicken bricks, no gristle and very good taste. The Kung Pao sauce was really good, but a bit understated for my taste. I prefer my Kung Pao have some pow. They had packets of hot sauce available, so I added a bit to mine. It's much easier to spice food up than to go the other way, so I understand that they understand their clientele. :) The standout in my dish though had to be the vegetables. They were incredibly fresh and tasty and cooked just right for me; crisp rather than cooked into submission. I will get this again, but I saw quite a few menu items to try. My wife's Sesame Chicken was also very tasty, and my daughter really liked her Moo Goo Gai Pan. The portion sizes are plentiful, so one meal for two is quite doable; even three if you're not really hungry. They also gave us a couple spring rolls free with our meals. They were quite good. I think they made these fresh. If they didn't, they need to keep buying them wherever they got them from. With tax, our meals came to about $32, which I thought was very reasonable. It's pretty obvious they expect takeout & delivery to be their main business as the restaurant is only big enough for a few tables. They don't have a children's menu that I saw. Nor do they have a dessert section. They do have both diet and vegetarian choices though. I used to have a posting here to a menu I scanned in. No need for that any more. I've been hungry for Chinese....and have tried all or most of the local restaurants in Leesburg. I like them...but I really was looking for something else. I read the reviews on Chen's Garden, so placed an order. Very friendly on the phone, she had asked me if I wanted a couple of free eggrolls, what a nice touch :) I ordered hot n sour soup for my husband who liked it very much. The crab rangoons were fresh tasting and loved the light wrapper they were in. My son really enjoyed the steak on a stick and the General Tso's was quite tasty! Been there twice, great both times. Everything is fresh, cooked lightly with the appropriate sauce. From a NJ/NYer, this is the quintessential hole in the wall Chinese spot. Kung pao chicken contained more fresh veggies than a salad, and the general tsos is crispy, slightly chewy, and a perfect sweet hint of spicy sauce. I just cannot understand the effusive recommendations for this place, especially the "Kung Pao eater". I guess if you grew up in Arkansas, the Kung Pao would be the best you ever had, but not in the DC area. I visited this restaurant twice. The first time I took out some Mu Shu and Fried Wontons. The Mu Shu was very good but a bit greasy. The fried Wontons were too doughy and should have been crispy. The second trip was for some Kung Pao and that is what led me to give up on Chens. Aside from being drowned in oil, it was fairly tasteless. I asked for it to be very spicy and an extra pod or two of chili pepper made its way into the dish, but it was hardly spicy. Awful. We arrived very optimistic because of the overly enthusiastic reviews. We ordered egg foo yung..which arrived burned on one side. Had to wait for the gravy which had cinnamon and too much ginger. My husband ordered pork lo mein...which were over cooked and tasteless. Ditto for the spring rolls. Kitchen cooks wearing street clothes ...and the cashier cleaning vegetables on a bare table beside us. No clean paper towel under the veggies. Eat there at your own risk. read more

I don't understand the rave reviews as "best Chinese in Leesburg" unless they are from employees. This place serves shopping mall food court Chinese at best. It's made of 3 overly sweet sauces ("plum", "szechuan", "yellow garlic stuff"), 3 vegetable ingredients (onion, green pepper, shredded carrot), 3 meat products (beef, chicken, battered chicken), and rice. In various permutations, that turns into about 20 dishes which all taste the same. The portions are 50% rice, 30% sauce, 15% vegetable, and *maybe* 5% meat. It is some of the stingiest ratios I've ever seen. There's very little seating, decor, or service to recommend dining in. Sloppy arrangements of condiments, newspapers strewn about. I imagine it *is* like dining in China. And if you are going to get carry-out, get it from some place that uses more than 10 ingredients (*cough* China King). The only reason this place gets even 1 star instead of 0 is that the seafood fried rice actually tasted fishy instead of like sweet Chinese mystery sauce from a jar. I am loathe to give most local dining establishments a poor review because the restaurant business is hard and everyone deserves a chance. But eating at Chen's Garden is an hour of my life and 1500 calories I can never recover. Don't make my mistake. read more

We ordered Hunan Shrimp, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice and the Diet Steamed Shrimp and Broccoli with Garlic Sauce on the side. Every thing was great except the fried rice which was a little bland (though that was fine with my kids who were eating it. The sweet and sour chicken was a little bready, but they were delicious and I could not stop eating them! The lady who took my order was friendly on the phone as well as in person. She even gave me some free, delicious watermelon to take home with me when I picked up our order. Will definitely order from here again. read more

I know poor quality chinese food when I see it and taste it and both sight and taste were indicative of that. I ordered the lunch sesame chicken combination platter that came out to $8 something...while others are commenting how inexpensive this is I disagree. I have eaten 5 star quality chinese food for a lunch platter price of $5. Additionally, the egg roll left a lot to be desired. Very efficient delivery and impressed with their service. They came in for a delivery when there was a Tornado warning and the delivery guy had no idea the warning was in place and still brought our food for us! (It was shocking). He deserves an award for that run. The food is fresh and has a "diet option" on their menu, which was interesting to try. The price for lunch and dinner is different. Second time I've ordered from here now. Really like this place! Good basic delivery Chinese with reasonable prices like most dives, but with fresh ingredients and not greasy like the better places around the area. I liked the basic chicken noodle soup (good tip from another review here!) I have ordered and enjoyed the Szechuan shrimp, as well as the poo poo platter for apps. Last time we got cashew chicken which my 12-year-old son loved! Oh, and pork eggrolls! They have eggrolls as well as spring rolls, love it when places offer both. Only nit-picky complaint I would have it all is that the plastic delivery containers that they use are can be a bit of a challenge to open, however they do keep leftovers well in the fridge and keep it smelling fresher in there than the more common styrofoam or white box containers, so it's not really a problem. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was delicious. So was the hot and sour soup. I'd come back.

With all the chinese restaurants in the area, this one isn't the best. I think Jasmine is better. I ordered the beef and broccoli and pepper steak. The meat on both tasted exactly alike, which it shouldn't. Normally I would get steak with a pepper steak. On top of that I had much more green peppers that actual pieces of meat. I ordered the lunch special, which may attribute to the cheapness. Also the spring roll was the size and width of my index finger, and i'm not a big man. Overall I think they are trying to have the lowest price in the area while giving you cheap food. So if you just want cheap chinese food then this place is fine, but like I said before there are many other places that are close by that you can eat from. read more

Gave this place a try because I was craving Chinese food.I'm always skeptical about trying new Chinese restaurants especially in the Leesburg area so I kept it simple and ordered pork fried rice thinking how can they mess that up. So this is the closest Chinese to me where I could easily pickup without having to go downtown Leesburg and deal with parking. I've struggled to find consistent, good Chinese in my area or VA in general. I'm vegetarian and ordered Mushu veggie which is a fairly standard dish. I ordered it for takeout. Restaurant itself is pretty beaten up, definitely not a place to eat-in if you can help it. Service was good, dish was done pretty quickly. I brought the meal home and the rice looked old, it was not universally white or maybe it was burned to the cooker. The Mushu was OK but it was missing eggs which I assumed would be in there. Quantity was generous and taste was OK. I won't be going back and will probably just order other types of food of which there are plenty of good options in Leesburg, like Thai, pizza, etc. I'm still holding out hope for a good Chinese or good Mexican place in Leesburg... read more

We're new to Leesburg. Chen's Garden is the only Chinese restaurant that delivers to our house so I really wanted to like them. I ordered two lunch items at 11:00 this morning. What arrived and what I was charged for were the dinner portions. When I called Chen's to address the mistake the waiter offered no solution but rather argued that I said I wanted dinner portions. Why would I order dinner at 11:00 AM?! The price difference was small, but the unyielding waiter's attitude confirmed that we will just order pizza next time. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. The food is great, flavorful & more importantly CLEAN. I highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for GOOD, CLEAN Chinese food. Unlike other Chinese restaurants I've been to high end & low end, I have found that after consuming Chen's Garden I do not feel sleepy, sluggish, gassy or nauseated. The food is not greasy or bogged down with a bunch of sodium & MSG. The vegetables are fresh, crunchy & cooked to perfection. The meats are tender & seasoned well. Lastly, the customer service at Chen's Garden is superb. It doesn't matter if I come into the restaurant to place and order or call in for delivery. Regardless, I am treated with the utmost respect and good customer service (especially now a days) is very important to me. So, with that said I give Chen's Garden 5 stars. You all are great. The BEST Chinese food in the area - trust me, I have Chinese food numbers on my phone for any place I visit regularly. I recently moved here from New York and have been less than pleased with the Chinese food in NOVA. I was so happy when I found this place. Their food is great, overall very fresh and priced well - I love both their chicken and broccoli and chow fun. The owners are from NYC Chinatown and are very friendly. My only complaint is that the dried noodles that come with the soup tends to be a little stale. But definitely not a deal breaker to have food that reminds me of home. read more

I was so happy to know there was a new Chinese restaurant in Leesburg, close to my house and one that got very good reviews. Sorry to say, we were very disappointed and I am writing the first bad review. My husbands cashew chicken was heavily breaded and tasted like leftovers. The cashews even tasted stale. He barely ate it. The panfried dumplings were very doughy and chewy. The hot and sour soup was very watery and lacked richness. My shrimp with mixed vegetables, was ok, but I didn't understand why it was in a dark sauce. The shrimp lo mein had a good flavor, but very heavy on the garlic. The crab rangoon was very good. The chicken noodle soup was very good. The last thing we need in Leesburg is another mediocre Chinese restaurant. I'm glad the other reviewers were happy with their meals. This is a great place for fresh take out food. My husband & I have been ordering from here for well over a year. First time we ordered I was pleasantly surprised the vegetables and the shrimp were so fresh. I love their steamed broccoli with shrimp. This is easily the best place to eat chinese in Leesburg. I eat chinese all the time and have generally been depressed because most the chinese in Ashburn is much better. However, I have tried this place twice and it is surely the best around. I've had the dumplings, they are great. I wish the sauce was a little sweeter/spicer. It seems just like a very plain soy sauce.. Mostly salty flavored. however it is still decent and the dumplings are great. The food is good, a few things are great. The people are REALLY nice and although it seems that most asian places are eager to please, these people just seem to do a better job. I have had better chinese in my life, but since I eat it so much and I have not liked any of the other chinese places in leesburg, this has become my go to for sure. read more

I absolutely love this place. Everything we have ordered here is delicious and they always deliver, no joke, in like 15 mins. How is that even possible?! First, the positives. The food was ready when we got there and the egg rolls were good. We ordered 4 dishes. The chicken and brocoilli was bland and chicken did not seemed fully cooked. The shrimp lo mein tasted like noodles and soy sauce. The sesame chicken tasted exactly like sweet and sour chicken with some sesame seeds sprinkled on top. The mango chicken just tasted off and not mango-e. Maybe it was an off day or the chef quit. I've had the thai curry chicken in the past and it was great so plus one star. read more

I love this place but it is different from any Chinese takeout I've had before. The reason I say this is because I think they boil their chicken. This caught me off guard at first but after I finally realized what it was I found that I really liked it. My favorite dish is their Hunan chicken.
