Barnes Center and the Wesley Ridge Hospice team, for the exceptional care provided to our father over the past two and a half years. Placing a loved one into a rehabilitation or nursing facility is never an easy decision. Watching that same loved one gradually decline--and eventually having to make the decision to transition to hospice care--is one of the most difficult journeys a family can walk. Throughout every stage of that journey, Wesley Ridge and The Barnes Center made an incredibly heavy burden easier to carry. I was present in the facility often, which allowed me to witness the care firsthand. I didn't just observe how the staff cared for my father while I was there--I also saw how they treated other residents throughout the building. The compassion, patience, and respect shown were consistent and genuine, regardless of who was watching. As my father's medical needs increased and his dementia progressed, the staff continuously adapted to meet him where he was--physically, emotionally, and personally. Medical testing, daily care, and moments of confusion were handled with professionalism, dignity, and grace. He was never treated as a task, but always as a person. When the time came to transition to hospice care, that change was handled seamlessly. The hospice team worked closely with the facility staff to provide meaningful end-of-life care, addressing not only his physical comfort, but also his emotional, social, and spiritual needs. The level of peace and comfort provided exceeded anything our family could have hoped for. We would also like to recognize the exceptional activities staff, who went above and beyond to bring joy, engagement, and purpose to my father's days. From volleyball, cards, trivia, pool, and cornhole to church services and faith-based activities, they made a genuine effort to keep him active, social, and smiling. Those moments of laughter and connection meant more than words can express and greatly enhanced his quality of life. I would also like to acknowledge the many staff members who are often behind the scenes but are absolutely essential--the dietary staff and cooks who took care in preparing his meals, and the housekeeping and laundry staff who ensured his clothing and personal items were always clean and cared for. Their attention mattered greatly and contributed to his dignity and comfort. What stood out most was the humanity shown every day--kindness, patience, reassurance, laughter, and genuine connection. We are sincerely grateful to all involved--nursing staff, aides, rehabilitation professionals, hospice caregivers, activities staff, dietary services, housekeeping, and support staff. Wesley Ridge and The Robert A. Barnes Center exemplify what compassionate long-term, rehabilitative, and end-of-life care should be.

This woman is not at all personable and I cringe when I have to call her to schedule a visit with my mom. She scheduled my last visit on a day they don't normally allow visitors and then turned her mistake around on me! My mom is in hospice, she doesn't have a lot of time left. She's been quarantined twice because of Covid exposures from THEIR employees and I'm not allowed to hug her when I see her. If you're looking for an assisted living - this isn't the place - do your loved one a favor, keep looking!!

They also go out to hear music, see shows, eat lunch and take part in programs offered at the Whitehall Senior Center and Whitehall Parks and Rec. There are activities within the community like bingo, exercise and crafts to keep mom busy. When mom does not want to be involved she has a nice apartment with most of her favorite things for her home. She never has to eat alone and I like knowing that she is not just opening a can of soup and only eat that. The food is very good and a nice variety. At this point, my mother is not using the nursing services that are offered. I feel good knowing that when she does need help the staff will already know her and she will be comfortable with the friendly staff.

Solivita of Echo Manor - Note the fold-down seat in the shower. I requested a portable chair, because I'm heavier and didn't know the load rating capacity.

After researching Extended Care Facilities, my wife and I decided that I would stay at Echo Manor,…read morefollowing Total Knee Replacement surgery. I was already treating for injuries to my shoulder and lower back, so use of a walker during my early rehabilitative stage was going to be difficult, hence time to heal with professional assistance. My entire stay was just shy of four weeks. Echo Manor provides expert care with the combination of state-of-the-art equipment, experienced nurses, assistants and physical therapists. Upon my arrival, they immediately worked with online pharmacists to get approval for pain medication, since the prescriptions had not yet been sent from the hospital. They also put in an order for a larger bed to accommodate my size. The bed was shipped in and put in place within a few days. They also measured me and ordered a larger wheelchair to make my movement easier and more comfortable. When I needed to report back to my Orthopedic Specialist in Lancaster, they arranged for pickup, transportation and my return. They sent someone with me, with my consent, for observation. The staff did a great job of helping me with showering, application of lotion to the new knee and donning diabetic hosiery (I call it such instead of "compression socks" because unlike socks they fit like panty hose, running all the way up to my lower thigh) for better blood flow. Meals were timely and consistent. They even changed my permanent order to "double portions" status, per my request. Personally, I felt that the meal sizes were smaller than necessary and the staff had no problem honoring my request. It wasn't a hotel, so I didn't expect to eat hearty, but I do. At least more than what was initially provided. Everyone there was personable and good for information and general conversation, treating my guests with the same care and kindness as they did me. When it was time for physical therapy, their team met me early mornings to get me in and out with phenomenal treatment; understanding enough to make adjustments with time, if need be. Their methods were dedicated and encouraging, getting me back at optimum levels in no time. They also coordinated a home health assessment to observed me in my own home living conditions to determine if it was suitable for my continuing therapy. Part of my assessment included me demonstrating proficiency with moving up and down my stairs, entering my bathtub and getting into my bed. Through their efforts, I was discharged earlier than anticipated and transitioned back to normal living in no time. What I hadn't expected, but truly appreciated, was the visits by my "Guardian Angel" (a specialist, assigned to me personally) and the Director Of Nursing, who checked on me frequently. This was one of the many things that reminded me that I made the right decision choosing this facility. The one question I would ask before referring this place would be similar to what I ask managers in my job as a Safety Director: "Would you allow your daughter to work under these conditions?" But in this case, I'd ask, "Would I allow my mother to come here for extended care and treatment?" Of course the answer is a definite "YES". I made a separate visit a few days after discharge just to say hello and give a few additional hugs to staff members that I didn't get the opportunity to say goodbye to on my final day. I wish I could name all of the stellar performers, but I would make the mistake of excluding someone, so I'll just say that the entire crew deserves a resounding 'Bless You' for all that they did for me. Particularly making me feel protected when I joined the senior citizens in bingo and won. I swear I thought they were going to jump me...

We didn't last 24 hours there, he checked himself out, much to their chagrin. There is NOTHING state-of-the-art here. Dirty, old water spots in ceiling of first room we were put in, overall super smelly, and understaffed which I can only assume based on lack of oversight of my father. I had to physically go to get his daily meds served to him, which were not administered until 11:30 am, and were not even correct. Staff was quick to bash MCE for bed sores that he arrived with, but did nothing to help.
