Just don't go there. I tried twice. Once with a transmission clutch (manual), and once with another issue. They claimed to have bled the clutch, they may have, but they did it poorly. The next place did it, properly and then my clutch worked. The next time I went in they charged me for a diagnostic (common) and said i could use that toward the work (also common). When I went back to have the work done, they said they weren't going to apply the money and I would have to pay the full price for the work. Straight up lied to me. read more

Something is wrong with these people. Went through the website email quote process online. Gave all details required, got the message saying it was successful & I would get a reply shortly. Over a week goes by so I call them & the guy on the phone completely ignores my transmission question & tells me he needs to know my full name, phone number & email in order to be able to verbally answer my transmission question. I explain to him all the details are in my online message to them in there website quote procedure & still I give him my first name & email verbally over the phone & ask him again about the transmission issue giving him a competitors diagnostic & he tells me that he can't see my online question & then informs me he won't answer my verbal question over the phone until I give him first & last name, email and now my address. I asked him why he needs my address to answer a pretty basic mechanical question I of course am a bit confused as to what's going on & his reply "because I need to know things". It was so bizarre. Then he gets even more angry and says "I have other people in line that needs help here" as if the week I've been waiting for their response wasn't in front of the other people. The conclusion to this is him telling me he won't answer any of those mechanical questions over the phone without my full name, email and my address, then he tells me "it doesn't matter, we don't want your business" and then hangs up the phone. Horrible shop scam do not go to Cherry city, they broke their three expressed warranties that were promised with three different witnesses when I had my jaguar X type of fixed, $4000 put into this process filled with empty promises. Very unprofessional as well, hung up the phone on me when I called back about my issues. My car had not been out of the shop for even a week, and the exact same problem had reoccurred standing me on the freeway. I had the car towed back to them immediately, and when I called them in regards to asking about my used parts, the guaranteed express warranties that he gave to not only me but my mom and dad on different occasions, he claimed that I was attacking him and hung up the phone. Took my truck in to cherry city to have my transmission fixed in March of 2020. The transmission lasted about a year and than took a shit on me, we have a 2 year warranty on the transmission so we didnt think that having SoHar the owner of the company fix the vehicle. We took the truck down just to be told he would honor the warranty because the damage to the transmission was our doing because the way we drive the truck. When I got on the phone with him he proceeded to say that he would work on the truck for free and that we just had to pay for the parts and quoted us 1580.00 to fix the transmission. The truck was into an accident so he told me when he started working on the truck that the reason the tranny was bad was because of the accident so he had me call in to my insurance to file a claim on it. My insurance denied the claim and stated that the transmission wasn't damaged from the accident and would not pay for it. I tried to work with them but have not gotten anywhere I asked if he could meet with the auto body mechanic to see if that was the case and when my husband got there he realized that our truck was broken in to and they took our stereo, subwoofers and amp out of our truck and the door was wide open, the response from the owner was it's not my fault. Really??? You left my truck unlocked. So now I get to spend more money to deal with this asshole through the courts to get my truck back and have him pay for the damages that accrued while the truck was under his possession. I will never work with this company ever again. Save your money and go to someone who is honest and does quality work. This company is a joke. read more

They act like they are trying to help but really they back you into a corner to line their pockets. First of all for any diagnostic for your car it's 80 dollars JUST to tell you what's wrong.. I went in to have my wipers fixed and upon returning to pick up my car these assholes literally took them off and threw them in my backseat and told me it would be 250 dollars to fix everything. Mind you we live in fucking Oregon and I have a 5 yr old wipers are a MUST HAVE. These people literally have endangered my life and my sons to gain 250 dollars! Called on a Sunday and Sapon, the owner, answered and was willing to have me fixed up and out of there after having the car for only a business day. Very straightforward and honest with the price, took his time explaining the fix options and even showed me the worn parts after repairs. I can't say enough about Cherry City Transmission. My daughter was given a Jaguar as a gift from her father and there were some mechanical issues that needed to be addressed. We searched and searched The Portland area for a mechanic we felt good about and could not find that until we found cherry city. Not only did they fix the issues that we were concerned about, they went above and beyond by doing several smaller things that we were not aware of that played a part in the overall functioning of her car (without an increase in the price of the repairs). There were supply chain issues due to COVID-19, but Sophar was awesome and stayed in contact with us every step of the way and at the end of all of it the overall price was less than the original quote. I do not recommend Cherry city transmission, had my transmission rebuilt there, now 30,000 miles latter having to rebuild again. Rebuilt trans should get 100,000 miles on normal driving and scheduled AT fluid change. In the rebuild they installed a shift kit was unhappy with the way the vehicle shifted into over drive the truck shifted hard/surged forward. Explained my concerns, they did not seem to be concerned with the way the truck preformed, I will take my business some where else with a good warranty. read more

I took my Land Rover to them 2 weeks ago with very detailed and specific descriptions of what my 4x4 transfer case was doing. I even mentioned to them that I had just bought the vehicle a month ago and was not even sure if it had oil and that this very well might be the problem. After 3 trips and $50 dollar inspection, I was told I needed to replace my transfer case. I said OK, can you give me a quote? I was given nothing in writing as far as their inspection went, and 2 weeks later, I have not received a call with a quote to repair. I took my Rover to another shop in Woodburn last Saturday. THEY ACTUALLY CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL IN THE TRANSFER CASE. There was no oil. I can't tell you how frustrated I was that Cherry City did not AT MINIMUM, pull the plug on the transfer case to check the oil level. If they would have, they would have immediately offered to service it and put some dang oil in it. Gosh... Sorry guys but since I have take it to Woodburn Automotive Repair, they serviced it, ACTUALLY put oil in it and it works like a charm. Update: 11/5/2018 I honestly cannot believe that it took these guys FOUR YEARS to respond to my one star review. And when they finally took the time to respond, their response is negative and argumentative. DO NOT GO HERE! I had the brake pads and rotors replaced on my wife's car. They didn't put the calipers back on correctly and one of them fell off causing the front right wheel to lock up while she was driving. Luckily she kept the car under control and didn't get injured or worse. I called the owner and he wouldn't reimburse us for the tow, Uber and new part/labor that repairing their poor craftsman's ship cost us. read more

Took my 06 GTI to have the transmission rebuilt and while removing it they missed a couple of bolts and instead of looking for it they broke my aluminum block and then tried to hide it so it went from a $4,000 dollars to $10,500 so yes I'm going to sue their asses if you have a vehicle there watch them close! read more

When I had the engine on my truck replaced, that shop messed up the transmission. So I took my truck to Cherry City for the tranny repair. Turned out I needed the tranny rebuilt, but I'd had it done just about a year before at another place. That first shop ripped me off-they didn't do the rebuild after all. Cherry City brought me back to show me everything and gave me the old parts (the first place never did). They even had me come back a week later for a free re-check and adjustment. They were super great-I'd been terribly ripped off by other mechanics and was pleased to find one that treated me well. They truly have helped me through one of my toughest times in my life. They're really great friendly people that really wants to get to know you by your name rather then a invoice number. They have helped me out a lot since I was in a tough situation being a college student. Very understanding people and they're not in the business just for the money. My clutch went out on a Saturday . I had AAA tow it to Cherry City because it was close to my house. I called ahead and the office was just closing at noon, but they stuck around until the tow truck arrived with my vehicle. My car was back on the road by Tuesday. A week later I heard screeching noises when I started it up. I returned it there, and was not charged a diagnostic fee because I had recent work done. The next day the car was still screeching after belts were replaced. I took it back and they immediately addressed the problem by tightening up the belts. I took my 2010 Honda Accord to them for some leaking and noticing the gears pulling an got the worst news, my tranny needed replacing. My heart broke, on such a newer car with less then 100,000 miles and a Honda which I have always sworn by I just didn't understand. They saw my grief and didn't begin the pricing options or pressuring me to get it fixed. He simply apologized and let me know they were here to help. The lady running the front provided me with assistance information for auto loans and today are having my car towed back to them at there expense to help me figure out if there is a way for insurance to cover it. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR business here one of the mechanics left the bolt loose attaching the front end to the swingarm causing my wife to get into an accident when confronted about it he owner said he would fix it we waited a few days got the car back it broke down a second time this time from the damage from the original accident at that point I was a little upset I called and asked if he would get us a tow truck and he told us no that we were on our own at which point he took the car back said he would fix it got my wife to come in by herself and sign papers essentially relinquishing him of any responsibility for almost killing my wife that dealing with the final time of him saying he would fix the car we had it for 4 days and the transmission blew up I have never in my life experienced a worse time working with a mechanic. Cherry CIty Transmissions has EXEMPLARY, PROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!! We are from Colorado and vacationing this summer driving through Salem OR on July 4th weekend in 100+ temperatures in our RV pulling a Jeep, when we had transmission failure on the Jeep. We were directed by other shops through AAA who were totally useless to us. The shop who towed our Jeep said it would be 8 days before they got parts to fix it and another week to get it done and the repair estimate would have caused anyone heart failure!! We were desperate as we couldn't stay in Salem OR for 2 weeks! By the grace of God, we found Sofar and his staff at Cherry City Transmissions!! We had our Jeep towed in on Saturday of the big weekend, when this shop is usually closed, and Sofar worked on our vehicle ALL holiday weekend and got our Jeep back to us on MONDAY and safely on the road to our destination! His fee was far less than what we had been quoted from the other shops and his professionalism and warranty of his work spoke volumes to us!! I had a lot of work done on multiple vehicles over a span of 3 years at Cherry City Transmissions. While Jerry is a nice guy, the work done on my Jeep Wrangler was extremely poor. When I had my exhaust system replaced, I specifically went back and asked why the vehicle was so loud now after the repair. I was told "most people want their vehicles to be loud". I found out now 2 years later that a much smaller compact car muffler was installed even though I paid to have the correct large muffler for the Wrangler installed. I also found that when the engine timing was adjusted, Cherry City broke an entire edge off of the timing belt cover. They did not tell me about this and instead opted to use a metallic non-weld material to patch in the edge once they replaced the cover. I do not trust their sub-par workmanship and will never recommend that anyone use their services. read more

toxic owner, reset my timing belt for 50 percent over qoted price in the process managed to incur a leak in my valve cover and put a enough air in my power steering pump to make it over flow on the way home and still is still making noise a week later as i write this. i went back to the shop to ask them to take care of these issues and the owner instead of being understanding tells me he never touched my power steering pump and its my problem. he then prosceeded to make remarks about it being people like me that screw him over. then started yelling at me kicked me out of his office and tried to kick me off the property before returning my car to me. for the valve cover gasket he basted the entire thing in rtv sealent, stoping the leak but making it so if i ever need to go in there again it will take me hours. not to mention it is not at all how the book says to do it. avoid getting yelled at, having them over charge you. and mess things up that were fine before you went in, find another shop. read more
