I really wish this place was bigger. We were a party of 7 to be fair it can be hard to seat (and it hard to get a reservation, i did not set this up). But, the space is tight. The food was good, they ran out of french toast so I had to go with the egg sandwich. I feel like I did not get their full brunch experience. I stopped in about a month ago and I'm sure I left a review- but I am stopping off to drop another, because what happened?? I used to love this place. I have referred to their pancakes as crack in the past and I just don't understand the flavor combinations going on. For example, why put cocktail sauce directly on my catfish. The menu didn't say that, like what were you covering up? I should have complained to the server but this is the second time. The first time was my last visit where some herb crème fraîche was on my pancakes. It was savory on sweet and it just didn't go. I tried to wipe it off both times and the first time I asked like what is this?? I'm just going to have to stop coming here. I enjoyed dinner and especially breakfast in the past but I currently do not like the menu set up or what they are offering. I didn't like that the kids menu cheeseburger was a slider! I did like the clean gender neutral bathrooms, backyard seating and up front seating were pleasant areas compared to the interior which had no ac, and lastly the service was mid. And that's not the fault of the server like it was hot in there so I feel like she was moving at the best rhythm she could especially since we were the first patrons to crack the dinner egg and people suddenly started pouring in. The bartender seemed to be have an eye on everything and everyone and was very pleasant and greeted me as I walked in. But the young woman who was a hostess idk she was Caucasian, it had to be her first day. She set my family at a table that was too small and when I got out of the restroom I walked into confusion and jumped right in rearranging tables to make them comfortable as a baby was involved and I was slightly embarrassed when the actual server came in and looked at me a certain way befor offering a high chair. I wasn't being impatient I was trying to be helpful but who knows what she thought. Anyway it's really the food that's the problem. I used to live close by for 7 years and really came to love and appreciate this place. And I like out of the box things; but I also like my catfish seasoned well and without cocktail sauce on top. The sides were not tasty enough to overshadow the catfish and the whole time I was wishing they would. Giving this a 4 star review only because the fish was not seasoned (to me) kind of bland. Loved the spinach and thanks for not using traditional elbows for the generous portion of Mac & cheese. It was perfectly fried and the pickled vegetables added just the right acidic flavor needed to balance the heat of the scotch bonnet pepper sauce that I added. I also ordered a rum punch. Cheryl's is a staple in this area and I hope it never leaves my list of favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. I've been visiting for years and throughout that time I have never once had a disappointing meal here. Some of my favorites are the Country Fried Cajun Wings, The Fried Fish Sandwich, and the Sake Glazed Salmon Bowl. For drinks, I love their rum punch. Whenever I go to Brooklyn Museum or are around here with friends, I always see if there's a table open or recommend Cheryl's to the group. The food and drinks are great, the service is good, and I really love that Cheryl is usually around. One time she even played her guitar for everyone while dinner was winding down and the staff was starting to clean up for closing. I enjoyed my second time at Cheryl's Global Soul! I went with a group of friends for a reservation at 6:30. We were seated right away. There was live music with a singer. It was a nice touch to the evening. We received regular menus and an order form for writing down our meals. We started with drinks. The table decided on calamari for an appetizer that was crisp and came with a sweet chili sauce and lemon. Very tasty! For entrees we had the catfish special, fish sandwich and portobello sandwich. The catfish was delicious! Crispy and well seasoned with a bit of cocktail sauce. The macaroni and cheese was a big serving. Cheesy and delicious. And there was sautéed spinach. Also very good. Everyone was pleased with their food. The scotch bonnet hot sauce was HOT! A little goes a long way if you use it. We sat and chatted for awhile after we finished eating. The food here is the epitome of comfort food. The pictures and videos did not prepare me for the quality of the food. The pancakes were so filling that I had to take it to go. Out waitress was helpful in explaining alternatives since we could not do customizations to the dishes. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food and got exactly what they wanted. I wish I could give this place 10 stars! It took me a while of living down the street to try this out, probably because the humble restaurant front doesn't reflect that the food and ambiance inside is exploding with fun and flavor. The restaurant owner one day recognized me as a neighbor and instead of teasing me about not having come by yet, she welcomed me to come back whenever I felt like it. It kinda showed that Cheryl isn't just about rushing people into the front door, but rather welcoming guests in as though everyone is a welcome neighbor. The menu is just covered in unique but familiar soul food, and I still have yet to try something I don't like. Sweet, spicy, savory, and everything in between. There is always a cool rotation of local art on the walls, and when there is live music, you feel like you're both eating at home but at a nice restaurant at the same time. It is pure magic. I'm so proud to be a regular, and you better come by quick because there is already often a line out the door, especially during weekend brunch! We celebrated my business partners birthday and it was truly memorable! The food and service was amazing!!! Beginning with the staff members Marcos (bartender) and Ennio (waiter).  We were very pleased with the service; They were both friendly, attentive and served us with beautiful smiles. Ennio made  recommendations for meals and drinks, which were good and something we enjoyed. Marcos truly makes the best drink! They were both so knowledgeable about the location and answered our questions related to your establishment. They both suprised us with dessert with a candle, while being serenaded by everyone singing "Happy Birthday ". Our hearts were truly  blessed. The food was delicious and well presented. I must mention the "Escovitch Fish" and "Cat Fish" dish that was served to us was the star of the evening, cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! It really could have been a 20 minute wait, because there were some empty tables that the servers just weren't turning around. Once seated, the service is quite good though. We were disappointed to find out that the jerk chicken was not available for brunch but only dinner. You order by ticking off what you want on the paper menu. I ordered the pancakes with the fried chicken as well as a hot tea with milk and sugar. The pancakes were really good but the fried chicken was surprisingly disappointing. I didn't particularly enjoy the white sauce that the fried chicken came with and the chicken was a bit dry. Overall, considering the wait and the food, it was just okay for me. Holy cow, what a friggin' find! We can be really picky about the places we go. Some days it can take us an hour to decide on a place to eat. My husband ran a 5K nearby, and friends came out to cheer him on. Everyone wanted to grab a bite and I was left to decide where. What amazed me right off the bat, besides the unbelievably welcoming that we got from the person who sat us (which might be Cheryl ... It definitely seemed like someone who loved where she worked), was that the menu had a perfect weekend menu that had something for each of our different tastes and budgets. I had the omelette, which was delish. The hubby had a variety of things, as he often does. It was a diverse selection of lunch and breakfast offerings to which everyone cleaned their plates. The food was that good. But also the service was attentive and on point, despite that they were packed, which says a lot about the way they manage and care about the restaurant and the people who eat here. The prices were very reasonable for New York because they easily could charge more, but don't, which was also part of the charm. Portions were just perfect. Finally visited Cheryl's while in town and enjoyed a really good breakfast here. I even got to meet Cheryl herself ! I miss NYC and especially Brooklyn. You can always get lucky with a close parking spot. There is a beautiful garden patio to dine on. We were lucky to score a seat. Cheryl's dishes out what I consider to be a very clean menu. I had a spinach and tomato omelette with whole grain toast and home fries, my friend had the pancakes and fried chicken and her son had French toast and berries. I tried the breakfast sandwich which was fine. As a vegetarian, it was a little hard to find options (the main reason I gave 3 stars). Cheryl's has always been the low key brunch spot in Brooklyn. Definitely can get crowded quickly and since indoor dining is small you will end up having to wait outside or in the small entrance area. As for the food they are on point!!! One of the best hot chocolate locations in my book. I am not a coffee drinker. At times the workers don't look happy to be at work. For such a small location I feel the staff should look more friendly and joyful to be at work. The food overall is good so I would recommend checking them out for good food. read more

The outdoor dining setup was beautifully decorated with planters for privacy from the street. I loved the coconut curry wings. I was disappointed in the rice that came in the bowl because it was too plain, not what I would expect from a soul food place. The rice tasted like it didn't have any seasoning so I ate very little of it. I didn't expect there to be so many wings in the bowl. I would allocate at least 30-40 min for waiting for your meal and another 15 for eating. Chicken sandwich was super crispy. I wish they had extra sauce on the sauce.
