My favorite restaurant for special occasions. Always delicious and the service is amazing as well!

Pleasantly-apportioned restaurant in an old house, very good service, appetizing-looking preparation of the food. But the positive vibes didn't last past a few bites. Somewhere in the thousand miles between the Chesapeake Bay and central Illinois, something was lost, and I don't know if it was the freshness of the seafood or the way it was cooked, but it was rubbery and off-tasting. And this was a mixed broiled grill, and neither the fish, the scallops, nor the shrimp were up to snuff. Better stick to land food, and keep the seafood for when somewhere near the sea. read more

I've been here more than 10 times. Food and service is always consistently very good, considering this is a seafood restaurant in Springfield, IL I mostly always order the same: oysters and salmon, and again, the food is very good The place is outdated (thus my 4 stars) and the patrons are mostly senior citizens (which explains the decor), but I am here on business monthly, tried almost every place in town, and this is still the best. What an amazing place! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful. It is a very unique place with a lot of character. You can dress up or come in wearing jeans and a t shirt and fit in. We ordered the filet and Captain's Platter. Both were great. The au gratin potatoes very flavorful as well. I want to go back. Great customer service too! read more

Had 6:30 reservations and drove from out of town. When we arrived they said it would been a little wait. We watched big groups of tables being seated before us. The groups totaled about 130 people. Their were other people who also had reservations. We finally walked out at 7:30 as did other couples a little before us. Totally poor service of patrons! read more

"Meh, i've experienced better" Is right. We came here for oysters and I gotta say, I was pretty disappointed. We thought we would give their other food a try and ordered their crab legs. After 30 minutes of waiting we were finally told they were actually OUT of crab legs due to a large party earlier in the day. Totally understandable. Disappointment is the only word I can think of. I went with my grandmother here to eat dinner after being out of the country and our server was inattentive, the food was hot but not prepared very well and overall the experience left me a bit disappointed that I chose this restaurant to take my grandmother to. I don't see why their prices are so expensive either. The restaurant is trying to go for a charming look but it just looks dated and smells moldy. Chesapeake has some of the best food in town when it comes to seafood. I enjoy their snow crab legs. Their scalloped potatoes are also really great. The service is always great. read more

We got a table outside in a tent in the front and were seated by a family party of 12. It seems like a popular local place with good dependable food. It offers a lot of sides, which is good for teens, but wasn't a huge amount of food. For example, it only had a single hush puppy, but my 17 year old didn't leave hungry. He had an upset stomach that night and thought it may have been from one of the scallops, but that's always a bit of risk and difficult to determine the cause. We got a tour of the inside and it has a colorful history (not particularly recently renovated) with a lot of separate dining areas, at least during normal non-Covid times. We had a party of 20 on a Saturday night. Only one server was provided, and she was VERY rude. They had put us in a small room, so of course it was loud with all of is talking. At one point she told us to be quiet so she could hear. She also was extremely rude when we asked for more water. Our reservation was for 6:30, and it was almost 10:00 by the time we got out of there. It has been a tradition for a group of us to go there twice a year, but I don't think we'll be returning, even though the food is good. read more

This is a higher class restaurant with moderately priced meals. The salmon was very good! The kids menu is good too. We had a very attentive server. A nice experience for our children. I would suggest an offering of a 4-6 ounce steak option be added to the menu. Overall, a very nice meal in a very nice establishment. read more

Best Staff with great food. If you want a quick meal, they can do that. If you want a leisurely fine dining experience, this restaurant is perfect. Excellent filet mignon and the deep fried lobster is amazing! They have an excellent selection of wines and cocktails. CHESAPEAKE **WILL NOT** HONOR RESERVATIONS My lovely, thoughtful wife made a reservation well in advance for a 5:00 PM seating for 3 on Father's Day, knowing most area restaurants to be extra busy for the holiday. I specifically requested to go here so I could have prime rib (the advertised father's day special) and she could have lobster. We've been here often in the past and enjoyed it. When we arrived, we saw that the front of the house was jam-packed with restless customers (most in parties of 4 or more with children, but several older couples as well) all waiting for seats. "Thank goodness we've got a reservation," I naively thought. We check in. We arrived before 5:00, but it took us several minutes to make it up to the maitre d' table. Made sure the man knew we had a reservation. "We'll call you in a few minutes," he said. (My wife reminded me of this later on). 15 minutes later in the over-crowded waiting area, we were getting restless. Parties were being paged multiple times (one, a party of six) to be seated, but not coming forward. Apparently, they had already waited so long, they decided to leave. "That's okay," I thought, "maybe they had to wait so long because they didn't have a reservation. Maybe we'll get seated slightly faster now." Another 10 minutes pass (we've been waiting **25 minutes** for our 5:00 "reservation"). My young child is growing restless and hungry. We ate lunch early because we thought we'd be having a great, filling meal. We are starting to become aware from other would-be patrons that they, too, *thought* they had reservations but have been waiting a very long time to be seated. We hear grumbling among the crowd that the restaurant is already out of the advertised special (prime rib) at **5:30 PM**. At 5:46 PM, my wife finally gets up the courage to bother the "maitre d'" (short, heavy, middle-aged brown-haired guy with glasses) "we've been here for over 45 minutes for a 5:00 reservation. How much longer do you think it will be?" Maitre d' pretends to look at some papers. "You'll be seated next." I interject, angry that the pleasant, carefree night out she planned for us is already pretty much ruined: "that's not what she asked--how *long* will it be?" Maitre d' doesn't even look at me, is clearly **super-annoyed** that patrons who've been waiting patiently for going on 50 minutes for a g.d. reservation have the temerity to ask why they haven't been seated. Also, I suspect, annoyed that the crowd is growing impatient and many have already left. He just huffs and says, "I told you, you'll be next." His total lack of empathy, his inability to even make eye contact with either of us until I spoke up, is why I'm writing this. As mentioned, we come to this restaurant with our kid many times throughout the year and have spent good money here. We like the food and the actual wait staff is great. The management sucks, however. If you are in charge, and you've very foolishly overbooked and/or understaffed for a holiday, literally *the very least you can do* is look your customers in the face and appear apologetic. Just fake it, at least. Give some semblance that you give a single shit. Since that wasn't forthcoming, we left, just like several parties before us, and I'm guessing several parties after us, judging by the supporting comments and looks people made to me as I left. So, the long and short of it is: if you make a reservation here: 1) they overbook, by a lot. They don't know how to properly accept reservations, so reservations are meaningless 2) if you bring this matter to his attention, the man running the seating (who carried himself like he was some dilettante owner, certainly not like someone who's had proper training) he literally will not even look you in the face. He will give you a false promise and a total brush-off. Because he is busy dealing with the results of his own mismanagement and simply doesn't care if his patrons have a decent Father's Day meal, or indeed, whether they ever return. He certainly won't offer to make it right or apologize for screwing you on your holiday. I hope somebody managed to get some prime rib from this ridiculous joint tonight. If so, tell me who you had to bribe to get seated before the witching hour. read more

Lunch was good. Buffet for Lunch lacked sea food, which was disappointing. Atmospher was lovely. Staff was professional.

My brother's rehearsal dinner was held here on a Friday night in May. We were in a semi-private room on the first floor. The service was timely and appropriately attentive. They were good about checking in with my dad about the wine service and getting his approval to continue. The food was good and everyone received their meals about the same time. We went to Chesapeake early Friday evening for dinner. I had not been there in over 20 years. I lived in FL for many years and I thought this might be a good place to get a shrimp dinner. I ordered Shrimp Scampi and rice pilaf. The dinner came with a salad, which ended up being green lettuce (that had been out of the refrigerator all day) with a little shredded cheese on top. We all ate very little of it. My shrimp scampi came with a baked potato, with little cups of butter, sour crem, and cocktail sauce sitting on top of the shrimp scampi. I requested my rice and the baked potato was taken away. The cocktail sauce had spilled over 1/3 of the shrimp scampi. Who needs cocktail sauce with shrimp scampi? The shrimp scampi was luke warm and had been prepared with butter and garlic powder. No fresh garlic at all. Not a pleasant taste. My other companions had fried catfish and the other fried shrimp and they were satisfied with their dinner. I should have sent mine back. Don't order the shrimp scampi if you think it is going to taste like it should. Very disappointed!!! read more

The reason why I gave 3 stars instead of 5 was the service was so slow. We were half hour late past our reservation time getting seated because they passed up our names. Began when I called in for a reservation. Poor signal equalled him hanging up on me. When I called back, he picked up the phone and just hung up. Third time I called, he rudely took my reservation. When we arrived, it was standing room only in the entry/waiting area. I checked in with our reservation. The host glanced at a "reservation" sheet and added our name to the waiting list. We waited 20 minutes. Clearly reservations do not matter here. Our server was great in the beginning, although it was so loud she said she could not hear us. The Baked French Onion Soup was fantastic. The salad was bagged salad with a ton of shredded cheese. My crab legs were great except, they did not bring any melted butter for dipping, nor did they bring a warm, wet rag or even disposable wipes for cleaning my hands. Even Yummy Crab or Red Lobster does better than this. When I asked for a cloth to wash my hands, the server said they do not give those out, seemed confused, then said she would bring one and never did. I awkwardly held my hands as I walked across the restaurant to the restroom. When we asked for take home containers, she brought a tiny container for an untouched steak and an untouched baked potato, butter and sour cream containers. Visiting Springfield for a few days. Ordered just a cod dinner. Food and service were excellent. Fun to imagine what the inside was like when the building was a large private mansion. Service and quality of food was excellent. Wine- big pours, nice. Plus, prices are decent. Will go back next time I'm in my hometown. They ruined my birthday celebration. Had a reservation for 6pm and didn't get seated until 6:30. Folks walked in the door after we did and got seated before we did. When they finally took our order we waited 50 minutes before any food came out. Their excuse was "the kitchen lost the ticket". The time between my food coming out and my wife's coming out was 10 minute. The food was mediocre at best. The salmon with walnut raspberry sauce was absolutely flavorless. And what was their solution? A free dessert. Which we didn't take. read more

Always have to stop here for dinner when I'm in the Springfield area. When walking in, it looks like an old style home and the decor makes you feel right at home. The dining is split into different rooms so you don't feel like you're all eating in one big room. I've never had a bad meal here. The moment we walked in it seemed hectic. There wasn't a host/hostess waiting to seat anyone. Then finally we were shower to our table where our family was waiting and we sat down and it was hotter than the hubs of hell. (We were next to a vent/heater) lol Then the waitress was nice, but she seemed real rushed , which I can understand. I got the shrimp Alfredo, it was very good and when I asked for Parmesan, she gave me a generous amount. which I appreciate because I love it ! The cheese cake was great! Have been eating here most of my life, food is consistently good & several of the staff have been there for over 15 years. Ribs are delicious & slow cooked, steaks good but my favorite is their seafood broiled. Orange roughy with scallops & shrimp one of my favorites. Only place close to me that I can get escargot & it's very good. Went this last time for my birthday & they gave me a dessert of death by chocolate dessert which we shared because it's so rich & yummy. read more

First of all very cool outside building... And the Stuffed Shrimp and escargot was very very good. That's all the nice things I have to say. I've been all over the country and all over the world and I have never in my life felt like I was treated differently because I was gay till tonight. I think my waiter was rude to begin with but I strongly feel that he figured out that we were together and quickly our service was different. How do I know this you ask? Ordered a glass of wine and I am quite sure that they brought the wrong one. ( it was really sweet, not dry white). Decided to just keep it and ordered another glass of dry red. Server acted rude and annoyed. We didn't even ask them to take it back or credit it. Salad was straight out of the bag and Italian dressing was blah. We could have overlooked the dated building.
