Strange experience. We called to reserve a table for 5 and were told nothing was available but we could have 2 tables and split up our party. We agreed. When we arrived, there were only 2 tables taken. We asked why we couldn't sit together and the hostess said that a table for 5 just opened up. What? My son's steak dinner was covered in raw garlic. I would give a minus 5 if I could. We arrived, the restaurant wasn't crowded. Promptly seated and placed an order within 3 minutes of being seated. We ordered one cup of Maryland crab and two grilled chicken sandwiches. Twenty minutes go by and the waitress tells us our order will be out soon. The thirty minute mark hits and she comes back and apologizes, says she is new and the order wasn't submitted. The soup is ready and will be right out. At 40 minutes she brings us one cream of crab soup. We remind her it is suppose to be Maryland crab and she apologizes, takes it back with a woman with longer black hair. That woman with the black hair gives the table next to us (who were seated 15 mins ago) their food. She goes past us again to give them extra plates. I ask her, can we please get the soup? She knew we were waiting, she heard there was a mixup, did absolutely nothing to make it right. She's bringing extra plates to the table next to us. She comes back with another cup of cream of crab and two salads. We said we give up and left. At no point did anyone offer a roll or anything to us. Knowing they kept bringing the wrong thing or hating us wait for that long. We sat there and wasted 46 minutes to drink water. read more

This was my first time dining at RIPs. My uncle loves their ribs, so I decided to try it out for date. The staff was friendly and our server was very nice. My friend was disappointed in his food, which was the meatloaf meal. His loaded mashed potatoes were dry (needed butter), and the gravy on the meatloaf was not tasty. (I tried myself). Needless to say he was disappointed about his food, and this was also his first time to RIPs as well. I ordered the ribs, loaded baked potatoe, and coleslaw. Ribs were pretty good, could have used a little more seasoning, but over all it was okay. Loaded baked potato seemed like they threw the cheese on top and put under the broiler, because the toppings came out crisp. The coleslaw was heavy mayonnaise based, which was not good to me. I didn't even taste a little vinegar. I had the fried pickles for an appetizer, didn't get the horseradish sauce. They were okay. Overall, okay on the food, but not on my top list to return unfortunately since its close to home. read more

Whenever in the area I recommend stopping by for a bite . The service is great , the vibe inside is clean and intimate . The blueberry pancakes had too many blueberries ( if that's possible) , the turkey sausages were delicious ious and the omelet was amazing . Grabbed a bite to eat at Rips the other day. We started out with a cup of cream of crab soup. The soup was creamy with pieces of lump crab meat on top. It was pretty good. The we had the fish and chips and their version of a French dip. The fish and chips were a little costly, but you got two nices pieces of fish(need more seasoning) fries and coleslaw. The dish was nice and hot. The French dip was basic beef(need more seasoning) and cheese on a sub roll. It came with au jus for dipping, fries. The service was good, but then again the restaurant was not busy. The menu seems a little pricey, but I think Rips is worth a try. read more

Love this place for breakfast. Price are reasonable, service is good and the food taste good.

My husband and I went here for dinner this evening! After reading some of the reviews we were very skeptical. But pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed the food! Grab a French onion soup! The menu was very reasonably priced as well! The restaurant was relatively slow when we arrived, so we were seated right away. Our server was wonderful in the bar area! And the bar section was quiet enough to be able to hear one another, which was a big plus. I know some of the other reviews really knock this place. When I came in today and sat at the bar, I was not offered service. The bartender didn't ask me anything. There was a group of white gentleman at the other end of the bar that he continued to say you good brother? Mind you, this is a Hispanic man. Now I'm definitely not saying we all can't be brothers and sisters yada yada, but I had to ask for a a drink, the menu... I had to call out and tell him what I wanted for my appetizer and my meal. Mind you I've been here now from about 1:45 and it's 3 now. I'm not in a rush, and bottom line, this man has not checked on me once. UNACCEPTABLE! The only reason I say I may or may not recommend the place is, last time I sat at the bar, a white bartender was working it, and I didn't have to ask for anything. He took good care of me. The next two white men that came in separately were greeted, offered drinks and a menu. The only reason I stayed is because I don't feel like riding around, I'm hungry. With the climate we are experiencing in America today, he just doubled not only unsatisfactory service, but making one not feel welcome. I can't be the only one, but maybe the only one to speak up. With recently moving to the area and looking for new places to eat. I came across Rips. My husband and I were hopeful with having heard some good things about the food. But sadly we were very disappointed. My husband ordered the meatloaf. It looked like it had just come out of a can. You could see the can ridges and 4 very thin layers stacked on top of each other. No seasoning. What looked like ketup tasted like a can of tomato soup poured over the top to help disguise the mess it was. The mashed potatoes were bland and dry. I ordered the fried chicken. The only good thing was the crispy skin but even that had no seasoning and bland. The restaurant its self was out dated, dirty and old looking. Overall will not be eating there again. read more

I believe they not consistent. Ordered same items I ordered last visit (6weeks ago). Stuffing wasn't fresh and crusted like it was in a pan for 2 days. Gravy thick and low on flavor. The meal came warm not hot... (HOT Turkey sandwich). Crab soup isn't as good as 6 weeks ago along with sandwich. Asked for a to go box and a little extra gravy (you know hot turkey sandwiches, gravy makes the dish, charged $2 for side gravy... (maybe 5oz in an 8oz container. Service again much better last time, nice young girl but very scarce .... I'm an easy 40% - 50% tipper... I left her just over 20% and hesitated. In all the years I have been in MD, my first time dining at Rips was for a private work event. The crab dip was decadent and divine. The pita bread was warm and sinfully delicious. I was so satisfied with my appetizer that I opted for the salmon salad as a main course. It was generous and bursting with flavor. I love the fried green tomatoes and avocado. Rips has been around a very long time. It's a one stop shop for food and spirits and they even have a hotel/motel out back. The people that work here are polite. Overall I would rate the service the best thing about this restaurant. When asked by my gmail to describe Rips, I explained it like this, " Rips is okay, it's kind of like Cracker Barrel but the food is not as tasty. The food will mostly be okay, they will have some things you like and some you think you will but it just won't be good". The example I gave was the crab dip, it looks good, it smells good but it taste like their is fish in it not shell fish blue crab. The chips that come with the dip are good but the crab dip is shameful, especially for Maryland. And the drinks are Mediocre at best. I will give a thumbs up for the corn bread. It's good. As for everything else it's a toss up. The mystery about this old looking, horse racing themed place is that they have something about them that every once in a while you just want to stop in, and it's not because they have a wine and spirits store connected to the restaurant. Would I recommend Rips? I would say give it a shot but keep your expectations low that little mystery will likely get you and you won't regret your visit but you won't be back soon. read more

Morning fun with Adrianna and her Lacrosse team, we were able to enjoy breakfast and get to stop and unwind a lil after their loss. The Inn has a rustic vibe; felt like I was out camping out west. I was able to capture cool pics. The kids were able to sit In an area. Definitely spacious. The parents were able to sit next door and enjoy a few mimosas. Our server was a lil annoyed but we made sure we made it easy for her to process one payment. Then We'd figure out the rest and who owes who what. The dining area where we sat was also spacious. It accommodated all of CCLAx parents. Breakfast was delicious. I'm not a fan of home fries but these were pretty good. I would have wanted it more crispier. The orange mimosas were def a hit. The website shows a piece of steak an inch thick cooked to a perfect Medium. I ordered medium. I got a piece less than 1/2 inch thick, raw at one end and well done at the other end. But it was 50% inedible fat. The green beans were so overcooked they were mush. We did a take out but the plastic utensils were so flimsy ww ended up eating with our hands. Went to Rip's today. I was drawn there because of the Liver and onions ! Most restaurants don't make it. I like it! Rip's did it right! The roll was crunchy on the outside but soft inside! The butter was perfect for the roll (yes, I graded the butter!) The liver is grilled not fried like I am accustomed to, but it was good. It comes with green beans and mashed potatoes. The green beans were canned and sadly the preparer need a lesson on how to season them.. The mashed potatoes were good. I asked for a side of gravy because I wanted more on the liver. For a country inn they did not season the food like I expected. I needed a little salt. But overall it was good. I had to get another roll because it was good..... yes I am a bread luva! I had the sweet tea, it was not fresh brewed but the fountain sweet tea. They have a bar menu that had interesting drink choices... I had to skip that because I was driving. They also have a country store attached to the restaurant. I didn't go in but it looked interesting. There are also some neat handcrafted (?) benches in the hall leading to the restroom. If I could give it less than one star, I would. The place was disgustingly dirty. It smelled musty when I opened the door I had to leave the door open. As I'm spraying the room down, I noticed the floor is stained. The only chair in the room is stained and very dirty. The sheets were stained up at the head. The bathroom had urine on the seat, and when I went back to the so-called front desk, they said the room was clean, then the lady would not give me a refund on my money. She told me I had to go to experience and ask them to call her to give up. Me a refund on my money, which makes no sense if you are a sensible person.Please do not book.This hotel. I have been coming here for years. Whereas previously quality was always consistent at a 3 to 3.5 level, now sometimes it is good and sometimes it is decidedly not. Most recently had a very bad experience, both with the service and my food. Yet, on my last visit in June, everything was fine. This most recent time was enough to put me off ever returning. We were in a large group and they mixed up all of our orders. Three servers (none the person who took our order!) came out with handfuls of plates and started shouting out the names of dishes and placing the food down in front of people who said "I didn't order that!" They didn't care! They just wanted to get rid of the plates! My mother had ordered a bowl of soup and they tried to serve her meatloaf with mashed potatoes instead! This despite another server having her soup in their hand and us beckoning *that* server to please bring the soup over to our side of the table. Eventually everyone got their (somewhat) correct order - except me! My order had gotten lost in the shuffle and had either never been made, or was quite possibly served to another table! When my sandwich finally arrived (about 10 minutes later) it had that crusted over look of having sat under a warmer for a while. Not appealing and the sandwich also still was not what I ordered! They took away the sandwich and asked if they could bring me something else instead. I said a bowl of Cream of Crab to choose something that would arrive quickly. The soup did arrive quickly but it was not to my liking at all. It was very thick and gloppy and seemed to have been cooked a few days before. I tried but I simply could not get the soup down - my body was rejecting it. I ended up in the restroom feeling queasy and could not wait to get out of there. In summary, it was too hectic. The service was disorganized, and my food was not good. Two stars instead of one because of past meals I have enjoyed there. I used to go a few times before the Bowie Baysox, but you can get much better food at the Baysox if you go to the restaurant upstairs. Otherwise, if you're in the area, there are other options. I ended up going later on that day to a really good pit beef place near the water. There is a Chick-fil-A right next to this place and a new Canes Fried Chicken across the street. As well as a McDonald's close by. I would choose all of those over Rips, sad to say. read more

I've been meaning to try Rip's for a few years now and finally went for breakfast. Inside you feel like you've walked into a cabin of sorts so it's definitely on theme with the "Inn" vibes. My friend said her omelet was just ok. I had a basic pancake breakfast and it was good although the potatoes could have used a bit more seasoning. (You really can't mess up pancakes and bacon though‍.)Our mimosas were good too. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. She's honestly why I gave them 4 stars. Godda cut Rips down a little here.. long time customer that l am, l know of which l speak.The restaurant is as usual clean and inviting: short staffed (who isn't) all in all everything checks out. Everything except my food. Ordered a blue cheese burger done medium. The wifey got the crab soup and steak and cheese. She feels the soup at Lambert's is better. Rips had a lot of shell in it. She is right, l have had Lambert's soup many times and yet to have crab shell as a condiment. As for my burger.. it was so dry it sucked all of the liquid out of my body. Despite it being cooked medium. Worst burger l have had this year. Came with cold fries as well. Now l like this restaurant, and will go again if the planets line up right. However another meal like that pretty much will stop me in my burger loving tracks. A fast food burger would have been better. read more

Rip's is that one place in Bowie that I've been passing all my life. You would think that with the prime real-estate you would hear more about it. I've used it more times as a meeting point than I have a viable option when I'm hungry. The inside is dark, and just really has a vintage vibe, everything is wooden, and I don't recall a white wall anywhere but the bathroom. All of the booths are enclosed, which is actually really cool. The staff here is friendly, and the food is decent. The food has a real down home vibe. It's like going out to get a home cooked meal, but in a good way. read more

The service is always quick and efficient! We try really, really hard to catch brunch/breakfast however they stop serving at 11 so we're usually late because we like to sleep in on the weekends. Although we can't catch breakfast and babe loves a good breakfast we were able to get him for a nice treat for lunch! it is a happy accident because I was able to get the backfin crab meat melt (or as I like to call it the cheaper version of a crabcake sandwich when you're trying to save)! it was absolutely delicious. The cheese pull was everything. This last time I got mac & cheese, and it was really good before that. I got the fries with it and they were also good. After having this the first time I craved it so much we went back a few days later. However, was daring and tried different things. The first time he got the. Mega grilled cheese sandwich and the second time he got the Monte Carlo sandwich! He said both were really good. And of course he always gets them with fries. We also had coffee and they were quick with refills, which was awesome. The Ambiance, a lovely quaint old town kind of feel. They also have a liquor store on the opposite end and a bar. I haven't really checked those out, but they seem to be well stocked and a different vibe. If you're on 30 one you should definitely check them out.
