I was actually shopping on Solano and what attracted me was the Wine Bar sign. Once inside I was greeted with a warm smile and served a lovely glass of Cab. Then I decided to order something light so I ordered the stuffed grape leaves which were pretty tasty. I ended up having a friend join me and we had such a wonderful time.

The shawarma plate ... absolutely disgusting

We went to Chez Mansour on Solano for dinner on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was nearly empty, just a few people at the bar. Our waitress assured us the food was fresh and delicious--not authentic, but good--and that the shawarma meat was on the grill, on the spit, and shaved per order. So we decided to give it a try. When it came to wine, we asked for a recommendation and explained what we liked. She mentioned they had a new wine list and suggested a Sauvignon Blanc from Lodi for $16 a glass, saying we were "getting a deal" because the new menu would soon list it at $18. We ordered that along with a glass of Santa Margherita, a simple, safe wine you can't go wrong with--and it ended up being the best part of the meal. The food, however, was a disaster. The baba ganoush was slimy, bitter, and had no trace of eggplant. The pita chips were burned, and when we pointed it out, she insisted they were "homemade and darker by design." Later, she brought what were clearly Stacy's pita chips. The shawarma, despite being described as freshly shaved off the spit, was anything but--it was dry, chewy, overly spiced with cinnamon, and tasted as if it had been sitting around for hours. The bartender noticed our disappointment and kindly brought both wine bottles to our table, telling us to pour what we liked and that he'd only charge for two glasses. That gesture was appreciated. But our server still returned with a bill charging us for three glasses, made no effort to fix anything, and even asked my husband how he liked his meal while his plate sat completely untouched. This level of food and service might pass in Paris at 4 a.m. (if you know, you know), but it's absolutely unacceptable at 8 p.m. in Berkeley--especially with so many great restaurants nearby. As a longtime Berkeley local who values supporting neighborhood businesses, I left feeling like this place only cares about grabbing money, not serving good food or hospitality. We spent $130 and still left hungry, ending up at Jupiter for pizza afterward. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone--not even my worst enemy.

Despite there being a full food menu, this place describes itself as a wine bar. This was communicated to us as we were looking at the menu and thinking about what to order. It is best to look at this place as a wine bar with tapas-style food to share. Food (ordered for a table of 4 people): - Meaza Platter (forgot to get a photo): this was a good starter. With one member of our party being allergic to eggplant, we asked if the baba ghanoush could be put into a separate plate. It was then communicated again that this place specializes in wine and not food. We tried to understand what was going on and were told that the baba ghanoush could be replaced with more of another item (like hummus), but it would not just be put on another plate separate from the platter... - Chicken Shawarma: this was everyone favorite dish as the chicken was tasty. Size is enough for one person's meal or can be shared with others if more dishes are ordered - Beef and Lamb Shawarma: seemed to not be a fan favorite, but was still good. Size is enough for one person's meal or can be shared with others if more dishes are ordered - Cucumber Salad: tasty and a nice addition to the meats and rice we ordered - Basmati Rice: both shawarma plates came with basmati rice, but we also ordered an additional side to have more. - Pita bread: we were told the pita bread was homemade and made fresh. Half of the bowl tasted like the Stacy's pita chips you buy at the grocery store, and the other half was soft wheat pita bread. Regardless, the mix of textures was not ideal, especially with the softer pita bread warming up the crispy ones Miscellaneous: - Bathroom available in the back just past the hostess stand that leads to the kitchen - Parking is available via street parking - Reservations available on Yelp

We enjoyed our light Kabab dinner. It would be fun to come back on a Saturday nite for their live belly dancer.

My friend and I got the fattoush salad to share along with the Chicken Shish Tawook plate and Musakhan for entrees. The salad was a nice fresh start and the charred dates added a nice sweetness. Loved the juicy chicken kebobs with a side of their delicious hummus. The musakhan had to be my favorite bite though, the chicken is so tender and flavorful and goes really well with the toasted pita. I would come back just for this dish alone! It's a counter-order restaurant which i didn't expect but it makes it a super quick sit-down restaurant to stop at and I loved sitting on their outdoor patio considering it was a nice sunny SF Sunday!

I ordered the chicken and beef kabob plate, and while the meat was flavorful, I wish they included more hummus. At around $25- $30 per plate, I expected a more generous portion. I ordered takeout and arrived about an hour later because the app never updated to show my order was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and they didn't start preparing my food until I got there. I mentioned that I had placed the order an hour earlier and expected it to be ready, but the server seemed to brush off my concern, which was disappointing. One highlight was the hot sauce. I'm not sure if it's house-made or not, but it's so good. The pita, however, was a letdown. I prefer my pita soft, fluffy, and warm, but this one was hard and grainy. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with decent food, but it isn't my top choice.

Social media strikes again…read more.. I came across a reel on IG featuring Iraklis. The food looked intriguing and scrumptious...in other words FIRE! I would not have known about this place if it wasn't for the reel. I'm also not familiar with Syrian and Lebanese cuisine. Thought I'd give it a shot. Not the biggest of venues, it a bit small on the inside, they have few benches and tables outside. Parking wasn't an issue, plenty of spaces in the parking lot. The staff was very helpful and informative. This is a fast casual spot with table service. They do bring the food to you, but you can help yourself to everything else afterwards, is: water, sauces, napkins etc. #SyrianEats: WRAP: ~ SHAWARMA: Damascus style CHICKEN - 5/5 Absolutely DELISH!! Love the garlic spread that came on the side. The wrap was already tasty enough, but somehow it was even tastier with the Garlic spread. Even the fries that came with it were spectacular! That drizzle pomegranate molasses... just DELISH!! This was one of the best wraps I had Stateside. Actually the best! PLATE: ~ MANSAF - 5/5 The Lamb shank was excellent as well! Tender fall of the bone with flavor galore, and the butter sauce was amazing as well...delish! The rice that came with the Lamb shank was OK. It was probably good, but the flavor profile didn't stand up to the rest of the food. I thought it could use more flavor, but that just me nitpicking... 4.5 ***** rounded up to 5***** for me This food here is amazing. I'll be back...

Food: 4 stars Desserts: 3 stars…read more The chicken shawarma wrap is moist, flavorful, and different than any I've had, with some mildly sweet sauce. The Turkish delights were overly sweet, and the baklava was mediocre - would not get again. I didn't appreciate how the default tip option when ordering is 20%, especially when the service is cafeteria style. Customer orders at the counter, picks up food, utensils, napkins, sauce, and water themselves, then buses dirty plates to the back themselves. Please don't expect 20% tip for this type of self service.

I'm generally pretty indifferent about mediterranean food, but this place really impressed me!…read more Every dish I tried had amazing flavors, and everything was prepared perfectly. We started off with the hummus and the moussaka (eggplant and tomato sauce). The hummus was pretty standard, but still great, and the moussaka was SO delicious. This was definitely the standout dish to me, and I'd hiiiighly recommend it. For mains, I was doing Meatless Monday, so I got the super falafel wrap. This wrap was also sooo delicious and massive! The falafel was really flavorful, and all the toppings and tahini sauce were just perfect additions. The restaurant itself is really pleasant and bright, great for pretty much any occasion. Service was also good (you order via QR code, but they bring the food out to you) and prices are reasonable given the quality and portion size. Definitely a new fav spot in SF!

After reading all the glowing Yelp reviews, I walked into Mezze & Mooore on a Monday night…read moreexpecting a five-star experience. The food was delivered. The service apparently called out sick. Let's start with the good news: the food was genuinely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The mint lemonade was bright and refreshing. The chicken skewers were flavorful and perfectly cooked (though surprisingly small). The halumi salad with eggplant was a generous portion. Now for the "Mooore" part. I was hoping the restaurant's name was also a mission statement. However, we could have used more attentive service. More follow-through. More toilet paper... Unfortunately, once we were seated, we were essentially released into the wild. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which is perfectly fine in theory. In practice, it felt like sending requests into the void. A drink I ordered never appeared. Nobody checked on the table, so I had to get up and walk to the counter to ask about it. Later, I had to make another trip to remind them we had ordered dessert. Then another trip when we wanted a to-go box. Apparently, the evening's theme was "interactive dining," where the guests perform most of the customer service duties themselves. Tips are forced when you first order online - no refunds on that. The bathroom offered its own adventure. The trash bin was overflowing with dirty paper towels, and there was little to no toilet paper available. As the daughter of a health inspector, knowing that staff use the same facility, I would have given this a poor hygiene grade. What made the experience frustrating was that the food was good enough to make you want to come back. But when your guests spend half the meal looking for someone to help them, it takes away from what could have been a 'more' pleasant evening.
