Love my new short cut from Chi Wah! I have been coming to Chi Wah for haircuts since 2002...wow, 20 YEARS! In fact, she gave me my very first short cut in 2008 and I loved that one too! It grew out awesome and I never even needed a re-shape in between. Sooo, admittedly most of my cuts have been when I have had long hair...which for me is the hardest for a stylist to get right. Chi Wah honestly has been the only one who looks at my face and balances the length of the layers to the shape of my jawline, cheekbones, and amount AND texture of my natural hair. She TRULY gives a custom cut! Chi Wah has been cutting my hair for almost 25 years. But for now lets not talk about Chi Wah, lets talk about the salon. First of all Chi Wah Organica has a very special warm way. The pleasant aromatic incense, the soft lights the warm charm of the people, it all works for me. As I hear the soft Sirius music I receive many choices of teas to choose from. Ok, I have been here as I said 25 years now but still it is hypnotic. Quickly Chi Wah gives me a warm hug and brings me in. In some ways I am like a 6 year old, I still hate to get my hair cut. Sometimes I still feel like I am Huckleberry Finn. Chi Wah makes it so much easier. When I am done, I never, ever, ask what people think of my haircut. I have been here twice now after having a hard time finding a stylist that would help me pick a cut and color right for my hair and lifestyle. I went to Sami after reading her profile on the website. It was helpful that Chi Wah has a profile for their stylists so you can find someone that fits you. When you first walk in the salon is clean, has an inviting ambiance and the staff is immediately friendly and welcoming. They offer water, coffee and Aveda tea. As far as the appointment. Sami is very personable and even was able to recall our conversations from a couple of months ago when I first visited. My first visit she was able to math my hair color exactly to the other brand which was in my hair. She was also able to give me a cut, that for the first time in my life, I was able to wash and go with minimal fuss. I can wear this cut curly or straight. My second appointment consisted of improving the cut and ridding my hair of the rest of my dead ends. My hair is so soft and manageable thanks to her expertise. Also she gave me color that matches my skin tone and I'm loving the balayage. I'm including a picture but please note this is my picture and was not the day she styled it. This is my first review that I have ever left for any business. This review is due to the fact that I'm so disappointed with my cut. I went in for some maintenance on an existing cut that I was happy with, it had just got to long and needed some shaping. This is exactly what I told the owner but it's not what I got. She cut my hair completely off and in a style that I will have to say is the most unflattering cut I've ever had. I would not recommend this establishment at all and I have to live with how I feel about myself with this hair for the next several months until it grows enough to get it back to where it was. read more

I brought my 11 year old here for a special new 'do and she got a fabulous bob. Girlfriend has a super thick head of hair, and it looks really great. Worth the splurge...and as elsewhere mentioned, lots of Aveda products (be still my heart). Nice relaxed atmosphere. So one day one of my co-workers comes in with a seriously attractive new haircut. After saturating her with compliments, eventually I had to ask who the person was behind the scissors... and how I get some of that on my head. Erica. Chi Wah. I made it happen. She has some later appointments (BONUS!) although I did have to schedule a few weeks in advance to snag an evening appointment. I was greeted by the receptionist and asked if I wanted coffee or tea then sat and picked up a magazine (good selection). Erica greeted me (on time!) and then we discussed what to do with my hurr. I described my vision. She was on the same page. Then came the scalp and shoulder massage. Pretty delicious. The rest of the hair cut was fairly typical... you can imagine it. Just make sure you imagine it with enjoying Erica's personality (laid back, funny) and the ambiance of the salon. End result: beautiful glory of a hair cut No product pushing (though I do love me some Aveda), just awesomeness. The cost of the cut and lovely experience? $45. I have been coming to CWO for about 10 years, and the excellent customer service and haircuts are top notch. Salena is extremely talented and personable. She really knows how to cut and style hair. My teenage son, who absolutely hates haircuts, came to Heather over the summer, and she did a fantastic job of cutting his hair and making him feel comfortable. Chi Wah is always so friendly and kind. You can tell that she creates a positive and calm work environment. When trying to book another appointment the employee was extremely rude and kept interrupting me and then preceded to hang up on me and then not pick up my other calls. I have dark brown virgin hair. I asked for flambayage, even brought a pic, wanted to go lighter. I came out with highlights on TOP of my head that were much more noticeable than the rest of my head...which isn't flambayage. I didn't get what I wanted. And I ended up paying $110. The color was brassy looking. Everyone at work said it looked bad. I felt like an expert should have known how to do flambayage. And when I was getting my hair shampooed the girl got water on my shoulders repeatedly. Not sure why I tipped her as much as I did. I tried to talk to the girl who did my hair (forgot her name but she's the daughter of the owner), and she didn't even offer to fix it for a lower price. I will not be going back here and I wouldn't recommend this place unless you want something very routine like a blow out. nOT for color. Absolutely not. read more

This is my favorite salon in Rochester. After trying several different salons when I moved here, I had the good fortune to wander into Chi Wah Organica. That was four years ago and I've never looked back. I've gone to them for everything from special occasions up-dos (including my wedding) to regular color maintenance and cuts.
