My party of 2 went at 6pm on a Saturday and were able to get sat immediately, but a line quickly formed right after! Restaurant is decorated well - a fun date or gathering spot. Food: Thai tea - 6/5!! Best Thai tea I've ever had. Roti with yellow curry - 4/5! That yellow curry is delicious but roti was a bit oily. Enoki mushrooms - 3.5/5, yummy but also was a bit oily. Khao soi - 5/5! Crab meat fried rice - 5/5! Great portions. Absolutely worth the wait!
Arrival and Service After hearing about Chang Rai for several years and reading about its Michelin recognition and positive reviews, I arrived with high expectations. We were seated immediately at around 4:15 p.m. on a Saturday, which was convenient, although parking in the area was difficult. Service was generally adequate, but the meal ended with an avoidable delay. We ordered three Thai iced teas to go, but they were not prepared after we paid. When I followed up, our waitress explained that she had forgotten to charge us. The teas were premade, so the sweetness could not be adjusted for my mother, who needed a lower-sugar option. While premade beverages are common, clearer communication and a smoother process would have made the experience feel more polished. Food and Drinks The ribeye was the clear highlight: flavorful and well prepared. The crispy pork over rice with yellow curry, pickled mustard greens, and egg was satisfactory but not especially memorable. The appetizer platter was less successful. The egg roll had a starchy, somewhat mushy texture, and the appetizers did not taste especially fresh to me, although I cannot determine whether any components were prepared in advance or commercially produced aka frozen premade and refried. Not something i expect from a Michelin star restaurant. The papaya salad was noticeably sweet rather than bright, tart, and lime-forward, which was not my preference. The chicken and shrimp Pad Thai had good noodle texture but lacked depth, acidity, and seasoning. I also would have preferred lime served on the side. The chicken coconut soup, presumably Tom Kha Gai, was the weakest dish. I expected prominent lemongrass, galangal, makrut lime leaf, coconut, acidity, and spice, but the broth tasted mild and one-dimensional, with little of those signature aromatics. I usually finish this soup at most thai restaurants. Couldn't do it here. One of the worst versions. The two large Chang beers were fine. The Thai iced teas were premade and could not be made less sweet. Value and Recommendation The bill was approximately $230 for three people. Although I am willing to pay that amount for an excellent meal, the food and service did not feel like especially strong value. The ribeye and immediate seating were positives, but several other dishes lacked the freshness, complexity, and aromatic intensity I expected from a highly acclaimed Thai restaurant. Based on this visit alone, I would be surprised if Chang Rai received Michelin-star recognition in 2026, though that is only a personal impression and may not reflect the restaurant's overall quality. Our selections may not have represented its strongest dishes, or this visit may have been atypical. After wanting to try Chang Rai since they opened a few years ago, I left disappointed and do not currently expect to return. I would not personally recommend it, although the ribeye may be worth considering. Midz at best.
I came as soon as they reopen for dinner and it was already packed, but I was able to get a seat Ordered two things which is the roti combo (not my favorite. I had three huge turkey wings, but really they're chicken wings and some little pieces of pancakes and a little bit of curry sauce. I didn't care if these pancakes or the wings. The wings came plain these pancakes were extremely greasy) Tom Yum Boran noodle soup ...this was absolutely delicious. I loved everything that was going on in the soup. It was crispy pork shrimp, ground chicken in the broth is to die for I love the tan is the spiciness of the soup you can tell the ingredients in the soup was top-tier staff super friendly and intensive and fast. I would definitely come back and try more of their stuff I highly recommend.
Amazing experience as always! Plan to wait for a table, but always worth it. I switched up my order and tried the pineapple curry with mussels and was so pleased, the spice level was amazing and mussels were so fresh. We also got mango sticky rice which was the perfect sweet to end. The vibes inside are so bright and fun, and the staff is always so friendly.
Chiang Rai is SO worth the hype! We got there about 30 minutes before they opened and there was already a line, but we were seated right away when they opened. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the vibe inside was cute, cozy, and welcoming. We ordered a bunch of different dishes so we could try a little bit of everything--and honestly, everything was delicious! Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. It's easy to see why this Michelin-rated restaurant gets so much love. Great food, great service, and such a fun atmosphere. Definitely a spot I'd come back to and highly recommend!
Pricey for Thai food but honestly, worth it. The menu is extensive and the food is so flavorful. It's not a very big place so there's likely to be a wait since they don't take reservations. Street parking only. My favorite dish was the Khao Soi noodle soup. Very unique dish. They also have the standard curries and noodle dishes. Definitely worth a try!
I've been wanting to try Chiang Rai in Long Beach for awhile. The first time I went, I couldn't make it since I had to head back to The Bamboo Club for my birthday party reservation. The second time, I was able to wait and actually eat at the restaurant. Note that you will be waiting from an hour to an hour and a half for a table! Also, it's mostly street parking! The restaurant doesn't have that many tables inside. I also feel like the tables are a bit close to each other. To be honest, I ordeded pretty simple Thai dishes. I enjoyed the papaya salad, which was spicy and sour. However, it came with 2 shrimp only, which was a bit disappointing. The spicy Thai fried rice was delicious. The rice came out smokey and flavorful. The shrimp pad thai was too overly sweet for me. My boyfriend enjoyed his panang curry. He said it was one of the best panang curry he ever tried. Service was quick and helpful. They came to our table right away whenever we needed something. Also if you don't want to wait, you can order the food to go! I saw a lot of people picking up to go orders. I would definitely come back to this restaurant, but only if I don't mind waiting!
I got chiang rai as take out and it was so delicious! I ordered the combo of Roti, Yellow curry, and fried chicken as well as the Khao Soi. Overall the food was super delicious even after it sat for 30-40 mins while it was on the way home. The roti and yellow curry was super yummy and it reheated well in the air fryer the next day!! The khao soi was also yummy and had a great spice! I need to come back to dine in!!
Oh my oh my! It's been a really long time since I've had good Thai food from a restaurant. Everything I had was spot on. I went with a group and naturally everything ordered was eaten family style. What we ordered: * Som tum (Thai style): my favorite type is Lao style, but I read the description and it wasn't it. So we went with Thai style and it was good! Not overly sweet, still savory, but light and refreshing. We ordered medium spicy level, but I feel like it wasn't quite "medium spicy". That was fine though because one of my friend doesn't handle spice well. * Roti with yellow curry: curry was standard, roti was flaky, warm, and buttery. * Tom Kha (with seafood): savory, tangy, creamy- but not milky. Highly recommend. * Fried chicken (with sticky rice): came out hot and crispy. Not typical thick American batter-- thin skin and friend onion was a nice touch. Used the sticky rice to eat with papaya salad instead. Picky eater approved. (Son of a friend) * Crab meat fried rice: real crab meat, fried egg on top, fried rice was nicely done. I recommend. ....believe it or not, restaurants do mess up fried rice! ;( * Pad Thai (I did not try this since it looked too saucey and I don't prefer my pad Thai to be too wet. My friend said it was okay.) * Thai tea: perfect ratio of milk to tea. It was solid! Service was nice and they were patient while we tried to figure out what we wanted for a 6 person group + toddler. They also provided a high chair at the table without us asking. Wait time was about 45 mins. Inside is pretty small and they don't have large tables, so they had to wait for a couple tables to clear. They do not take reservations. First come first serve, so be prepared to wait! No private lot, street parking only.
Party of 2 on a Sunday morning. Wait time was about 30 mins at 12NN. Street parking. One of our favorite Thai spots. We got their sampler platter & roti with currry dip for starters. For mains, their Khao Soi is all time. I got it with tofu since we were ordering other protein. So rich, flavorful, and plenty to share. I highly recommend. The midnight chicken (fried chicken wings but huge wings!) was delicious. Came with sticky rice and dipping sauce. Also a generous portion. Food here is so good. Prices are also fair. Again, guilty for always ordering too much. But I want to try it all. Lol. Ate the left overs the next day and it was just as good. Great service. We love this place.
There's been so much to celebrate lately and Chiang Rai was just the place to do it! This trendy Thai food spot is serving up some delicious dishes with a unique twist. We ordered the pad see ew with chicken (my go-to Thai dish), steamed veggies, and their fried enoki mushroom appetizer. If you've read my recent reviews, you know that I'm currently dealing with a mango sticky rice addiction. In the world of MSR, Chiang Rai's was yummy, but I prefer the longer slices of fresh mango, vs. diced. The interior is absolutely adorable and designed to emulate a Thai market space. Each dish has incredible presentation. A must visit spot for dinner!
Michelin-recognized for a reason! Everything we tried here was incredibly flavorful and truly authentic. Definitely reminds me of hole-in-the-walls I've tried in North Thailand. Our group of 3 walked in on a Friday afternoon and were seated immediately, despite the space being brimming with customers. The staff were welcoming and courteous. Interior is homey, had elements of street shop decor (peep the corrugated metal wall) that gave a rustic, industrial vibe :3 There were so many dishes we wanted to try, we opted to just split everything family-style. THAI ICED GREEN TEA: Just the right blend of tea and cream, and not too sweet! So rich and refreshing. FRESH OYSTERS THAI STREET STYLE: Spicy...! Has a kick. Went well with the fried onion topping. PAPAYA SALAD (Laos style): First time trying Laos style! The fermented seafood on top was FANTASTIC. Crisp brininess paired with the fresh papaya was beyond flavorful. I'm typically not a huge fan of crab but the salad dressing infused into the meat won me over. PAD KRA PROW (w/mock chicken): Standard stir-fried veggie/"meat" dish. We just wanted to try the mock chicken-- was a glutinous tofu-like protein, like the kind you get at Buddhist temple lunches. I mentioned to our waitress that it was my friend's birthday, and they graciously brought out a complimentary dish of ice cream with a candle to celebrate...! Very sweet gesture and the ice cream was delicious ;_;
After reading positive raving reviews for Chiang Rai, I had to try.. went for lunch and arrived promptly at 11:30 am - no wait, but by 12, most of restaurant was full. 2 hour Street parking available in the front. Midnight chicken with roti 4/5. I asked for a little side of curry to dip the roti in, and she wanted to charge $6- uh no! Chicken sate 3/5. The chicken was so tough. Pad see ew 5/5- My favorite entree. Khao soi- I ordered medium and it was way too spicy for me 4/5. Server was very prompt - you are limited to 90 minutes on the tables.
Chiang Rai is a wonderfully charming Thai food spot. There isn't any parking except for street parking and there always seems to be a wait. Make sure to put yourself on the waitlist and they'll text you when they're ready. Their menus display their dishes beautifully with eye catching colors. If you're indecisive, the choice is definitely going to be difficult. Pineapple fried rice was sweet and spicy. Overall, it leaned on the drier side. Khao Soi's curry soup was thick. The fried noodles took time to absorb and held its texture throughout the meal. Thai Tea Pang Ping was delicious. The bread was soft and the filling was a sweet thai tea custard. Cha-som had more of an orange taste over the tea flavor. I'd love to come back and try the rest of their menu! It's a great Thai food spot with plenty of dishes to please everyone. read more

Four Michelin stars speak for themselves. Honestly, the food took me straight back to the streets of Chiang Mai. I got the chicken Khao Soi and wow, such a crazy burst of flavor. It's about $18, which is actually pretty reasonable for a Michelin spot. The place is small and super cute, but that also means it can get packed and there's usually a wait. I've been wanting to come here for ages and finally had the chance to try them out with a friend visiting from out of the US. We went early on a weekday and although we had to join a wait-list when we arrived, we were seated within 15 minutes. The restaurant is small, cramped, and loud which definitely contributes to its vibe. If you're looking for a quiet intimate dinner, this is not the place. If you want a dining experience that has the high energy feel of a popular NYC hole-in-the-wall, this is the place. We ordered the pork pad-thai, mussel curry, and enoki mushrooms. All of the food was good. The enoki mushrooms were amazing hot out of the fryer. But eat them quickly while they're fresh and hot. They lose a little something as they cool. After leaving I realized that we'd been overcharged for the mushrooms. I called the restaurant and they offered to refund the difference, but required me to come back in with my credit card in order to do so. I'm not often in that area during their open hours, so the issue is still unresolved. There was also no apology for the overcharge, which would have made me feel better about it. I will likely return, but will check my bill closely in the future. read more
If you're looking for great Thai food, look no further than Chiang Rai located in Long Beach. I've been here a couple times now with friends and have not been disappointed. More recently, I tried the Chicken Khao Soi, Nam Tok Ribeye salad, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Fried Gyoza. The Nam Tok salad had some of the most tender bites of ribeye you'll have and then add in the classic thai flavors of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy and you have a very well-executed dish. The Khao Soi was rich and creamy, the noodles were fresh/spring-y, and the chicken was well seasoned. And of course the classic gyoza and pineapple fried rice rounded out a great meal. For those not familiar, this location in Long Beach is little smaller, only has street parking, and may have longer wait times especially at peak hours. But despite all that, there's a reason that people keep coming back again and again to Chiang Rai. read more
The food is excellent--fresh and well-executed. Highlights include the beef tartare, the branzino, and the curry with soft-shell crab. That said, be prepared for a wait. It was incredibly busy when we visited: we waited an hour, and there were 41 parties in line behind us. Parking in the area is also a bit tricky. Service was stretched thin due to the crowd--there weren't many servers--but the team worked hard to accommodate everyone's requests. read more
Finally tried this place during lunch and was impressed with the food. I got the som tum nuer yang (papaya salad with grilled ribeye and sticky rice). I thought the meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce that came with it was wonderful. I love papaya salad and this place makes it right. Very tasty and refreshing. We needed to go here because it was listed on Michelin Guide but quite frankly I have eaten better food in Thai town Service was great though but food price is cheaper that of a Michelin guide restaurant. Though I was happy about not having to wait for a table. We were seated immediately for a party of 3 when we arrived at 12:30 for Saturday lunch. Roti 3/5 was their signature dish because people ordered. However, it is just any I got at Costco. The oysters 5/5 came with amazing sauce of chili lime sauce, chili plate, fried shallot, pungent, not fishy. Thai boat noodle 3/5. I had better one. I asked whether the spicy level is white person spicy or Thai. They said Thai. I chose mild. It was not spicy at all. The soup was too sweet though. Pad thai was very good 5/5. I personally say this is my favorite dish. The sauce is different. I need to leaen how to make Pad thai sauce. It was great, sweet, citrus, saucy but not salty. Khao soi with soft shell crabs 5/5 was a great option that isn't available widely. We were full and basically couldn't even finish. Crispy pork 5/5 was delicious and I love the sour sauce they have. Pork was deep fried in a batter to make it crispy. Overall I enjoy my food because this was a one time try. I would come back if my friends invite me though. read more

This Thai spot in Long Beach is officially my #1 so far. The hype is definitely real. It does get pretty packed, so I'd recommend coming before the rush but honestly, the food is worth the wait either way. I usually order takeout, but this time we brought my boyfriend's family to celebrate, and it did not disappoint. I had to get the coconut drink, it's the most refreshing thing ever. We were even joking about coming here just for that because it tastes so fresh. We ordered the papaya salad, curry (MUST try!!), pad see ew, a veggie plate, and mango sticky rice. It fed all five of us perfectly. Everything was so good, we were literally watching other tables' dishes and already planning what to try next. The curry in the picture was hands down my favorite...super rich, flavorful, and comforting (if you know the name, get that one!). Definitely coming back to explore more of the menu. read more

Came here per recommendation of my boyfriend's brother as they are a Michelin star recommended restaurant. First off, they are on the corner of Mira Mesa and Anaheim, so there is no actual parking lot. It is street parking. My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday afternoon and we were seated right away. They have a variety of food on their menu. I was craving papaya salad, so we got that. We were recommended to get the Khao Soi with rib eye, but my boyfriend and I were t feeling soup, so we got the Dry Khao Soi Beef. And for our protein we got Crying Tiger. And of course we got mango sticky rice. I ordered the papaya salad (Thai style). I really enjoyed it. I love the sourness it has. My boyfriend is a newb in trying out foods, and has never tried this and he really enjoyed it. The Dry Khao Soi Beef was delicious. I actually don't like curry, so this is the one curry dish I actually like. For me, the curry isn't too strong. The beef was tender and easy to bite. And I love a good crunch, so the crunchy garlic and crunchy noodles on the side gives it another element of crunch to the soft noodles. The Crying Tiger was very tender. The dipping sauce they gave on the side had a good kick to it. We don't like spicy food, and they were able to accommodate to our dietary request, as per their menu mild is the lowest they go. So they just added spicy sauce/ seasonings on the side. Of course you can't go wrong with ending your meal with a dessert. We ordered the mango sticky rice. When we got the food, the sauce that comes on the side was still nice and warm. Drizzle it over the ice and mango... mmmm! This place had a cute vibe to it. Very modern, yet still had that Thai culture. It's a small restaurant. So expect a wait when it gets busy. But their service was fast and quick! read more
Wow best Thai food I've ever tried!! Their pad see ew is packed with some much flavor. I got it medium spicy and it definitely was spicy! I love the peppers that come with your dish. We also shared egg rolls. They were delicious and came with a sweet and sour sauce. Definitely the best pad see ew I've had. Will return in the future! only thing is there is street parking. We were able to find a spot but got lucky! read more

This was my second time here and it definitely still lived up to the hype. The only slight annoyance is that there isn't actually parking so you have to find street parking nearby, but there's usually spots available so it isn't too bad. My friend and I got here around 5 and it was already pretty full even though they opened just 30 mins prior. We were still able to be seated right away, but as we were eating there were SO many parties coming in who ended up having to wait. The inside decor is so cute and colorful! It had a modern feel but also felt very cozy. For the appetizer we got the Chiang Rai Platter which had shrimp blankets, gyoza, crab rangoons, and veggie egg rolls. All of them were super crispy and my favs were obviously the rangoons (they're my favorite food)... For my main, I got the khao soi with ribeye. The curry was more on the brothy side but was filled with so much flavor! I also loved the noodles and how half of them were fried and provided and great crunchy texture. The ribeye was soft and melted in my mouth. I also tried their green thai tea, which was a bit too sweet for me at first but was perfect once the ice melted a bit. I totally get why they are Michelin rated because it hits every time. I'll definitely be back! read more

My friend and I came around 5 PM and there were literally about 20 parties ahead of us But the wait actually went by pretty quickly since we grabbed drinks at a nearby bar! We both ordered the Khao Soi (curry noodles), I got mine with sausage. I asked for extra spicy and the server said, "Okay, so medium" haha . It definitely wasn't very spicy, so I ended up asking for extra spice on the side. That said, the noodles were SO good and super flavorful. The curry had a rich, delicious depth that really hit. We also tried the banana beer, it leans more sour in taste but has a noticeable banana aroma. Overall, definitely worth the wait! read more
Food was fine and although I don't usually eat spicy, the dishes we order that were "medium" or "spicy" were pretty good thus our pad kee mao and mint leaf chicken larb was tasty! Unfortunately the midnight chicken and house fried rice was dry and listless. The roast pork was a little smaller then the pictures but oh well. Despite the crowded Sunday, the service was great and the decor cute. I live near Thai town so maybe that shaded my review. read more
Came here on a Wednesday for lunch and they were packed! Fortunately, we didn't have to wait. We got the pork larb and khao soi noodle soup with chicken. I loved the khao soi. It was very rich, but the onions and picked mustard that comes on the side helps make it less heavy. It had a generous portion of chicken breast, and I had enough left over to eat it with rice the next day. The pork larb was good and I appreciated that the server let us know it's not sour like how larb typically is. It would be great if it could come with more lettuce and cucumber, but overall, a good dish. I wish they had lunch specials. Parking during the day was easy, but I imagine it can be difficult when it's crowded since it's street parking only. Friendly service. read more
Came here on a Sunday afternoon after seeing a Tiktok video on this spot, so I decided to try it out. You have to be there physically to join the waitlist and waited about 50 minutes to dine in. It's a pretty small spot, but the workers seemed very nice. The service was great everyone was very hospitable and genuine. Onto the food, I ordered the Khai Soi dry noodles with ribeye, meat was super tender and the broth was super flavorful, one of the better Khai Sois I've had, wasn't too thick like others. I also ordered the roti with yellow curry, very delicious as well, but I would say the roti is a bit greasy, but the texture was great. Also ordered the combination fried rice which was okay, but I did enjoy the amount of meat they provided in it. Lastly for entrees I ordered the crying tiger, super tender and flavorful but also had a kick from the sauce which I believe had crushed thai chilis. For dessert we ordered the mango stinky rice and which is always pretty tasty. Overall, I'd definitely come back to this spot, all the dishes were delicious and flavorful. I highly recommend you try this spot, but warning it can get pretty busy so expect a wait! read more
A Long Beach Gem That Lives Up to the Hype! Chiang Rai is the ultimate reminder to never judge a book by its cover. While the storefront is humble, the interior is a vibrant, quirky, and contemporary Thai oasis. There's a reason this place has earned Michelin recognition--the food is elevated but still feels like a warm hug. It gets busy (for good reason!), so expect a wait, but I promise it's 100% worth the time. The Standouts: * Fresh Spring Rolls: The perfect palate cleanser to start. Incredibly fresh and light. * Pad Thai: This is my ultimate comfort food, and their version is elite. The balance of sweet, tang, and savory is spot on. * Yellow Curry: my husband's go-to. It's rich, velvety, and hits the spot every single time. * Fried Banana w/ Coconut Ice Cream: The perfect crunch-to-cream ratio. Don't skip it. * Thai Bua Loy: These warm sesame balls in coconut milk are a revelation. A total must-order! * Thai Iced Tea: Even as someone who isn't usually a Thai iced tea drinker, I'm officially obsessed. My husband was right on this one. Yet another great restaurant in Long Beach! My bf and I tried Chiang Rai the other night and became instant fans. Chiang Rai doesn't appear to have a parking lot so you'll have to find street parking which wasn't too hard to find when I went on a Friday early evening. There's no waiting area so if you're there at a busy time, there are chairs outside but no room inside to wait. The restaurant is small so probably not great for big groups. I really love Tom Yum soup and it's usually my go-to order at Thai places. Naturally I had to try it here and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the Tom Yum seafood soup. The broth was a little sweeter than I like but it was extremely flavorful and so satisfying. There wasn't an option to get the smaller size so we went with the larger one. Another bonus of this soup is that it had a variety of seafood from little scallops to squid and I think there was white fish in there. My bf ordered a curry but was so hungry I didn't get take a picture. He did say it was one of the best he's had and was very happy with his choice. Service was also prompt and friendly. Honestly, all the food that was being served around me looked so tempting and delicious. I'm definitely coming back for more. read more
Chiang Rai is a Thai restaurant that specializes in Northern specialties and street food and the restaurant was featured in the Michelin Guide as Selected Restaurants (good cooking). I first heard about this restaurant from a chef's best restaurant in LA list from Attagirl on IG. Currently there are two locations - one in Long Beach and one in Tustin. Please note that only the Long Beach location was recognized by the Michelin Guide. [Parking]: Street parking only - it was not easy to find an available spot but not impossible. I was able to find a street parking spot on E Anaheim St. after circling around for 10 minutes. [Check-in]: Our party had to check-in via a kiosk at the entrance and the wait was approximately 45 minutes on Saturday night. [Atmosphere]: Casual dining atmosphere, but the restaurant got some good decors. [Menu]: The top 3 Yelp highlighted items are Crispy Roti W Yellow Curry, Khao Soi Noodle (mentioned in the Michelin Guide), and Pad Thai. For Khao Soi, there are (1) 5 protein options and (2) 3 different forms - noodle soup, dry, or fried rice. Our waiter recommended Sliced Rib Eye Beef or Sai Uao (spicy pork sausage) & I ultimately went with Sai Uao. The menu covers quite a bit of other interesting categories such as Street Noodle Soup, Stir-Fried Noodles, Street Fried Rice, Thai Curry, Chiang Rai Specials, Chiang Rai Local Food, etc. *** Khao Soi Noodle Soup (northern-Thai curry noodle consisting of egg noodles and crispy egg noodles in a rich, creamy, slightly spicy curry combined with your choice of meat. A friend recommended Chiang Rai, and wow - it's easily some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time. What I really appreciated was the variety on the menu and not the normal pad Thai and pad see ew, which made the experience feel more authentic. I ordered the Kua Prik Kuar (crispy pork with rice), and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. I also shared the midnight chicken with friends, and that itself was so good. The roti was so crispy and melts in your mouth. Everything we tried was packed with flavor, and the extra sauces they provide are a must they each elevate the dish. I was hoping to try the oysters too, but they weren't available that day. Definitely adding that to my list for next time. I also didn't know that this place is Michelin-recommended, which makes total sense after tasting the food. Of course, I had to end the meal with mango sticky rice since my friend warned me it sells out and now I understand why. It was the perfect sweet finish to an amazing meal. read more

Food Khao soi with fillet mignon - This is supposed to be their best dish and it was definitely solid with the medium spice. The first bite was too spice heavy but the lime and pickles quelled it perfectly. I prefer Siam Savory. 4.6/5 Pork belly khao soi - This was disappointing. The pork was certainly not fresh nor was the rice. Probably was sitting under a heat lap that wasn't hot enough. The pork was room temp and not tender. 3/5 Thai tea - An excellent elevated Thai tea. 4.6/5 Mango sticky rice - Same as the tea. 4.6/5 Service Solid service and recommendations but not perfect. 4.5/5 Ambiance Solid but a bit too cramped. 4.5/5 Overall it is not the best Thai food I've had but elevated. Pork belly dish was uninspired. Selva down the street has higher depth of flavor and deserves to be packed like this place. 4.4/5 is a perfect rating. read more

There were too many choices that looked amazing! We narrowed it down to the tom kha with chicken, Midnight chicken with roti, pad Thai, yellow curry, papaya salad. There wasn't anything we enjoyed! Top choice for me was the papaya salad, it was refreshing with a little heat and the shrimps were pretty good size. Midnight chicken was deep fried chicken wings with a lot of crispy shallots and a tamarind sauce, crispy and juicy. But the roti!!!! Amazing! Pad thai was delicious and the yellow curry was full of beef, just sad I was too full. I'm looking forward to the leftovers for tomorrow. Definitely coming back to try other menu items! A 45 minute wait for food that we finished in half the time. This was my 3rd visit, and there's always a wait. A little vexing, but it says a lot about the street-style food and cozy, vibey atmosphere. The service is always friendly, and the food does the talking. The Chiang Rai Platter offered a variety of fried bites, all crispy and cooked just right--a solid starter for an indecisive group. The Tom Kha (chicken) soup was a standout. We ordered the large and found ourselves scraping the pot for every last drop. Perfectly sour and spicy, it opened our appetites and refreshed our palates throughout the meal. For entrées, we shared the Spicy Thai Fried Rice and the Soft Shell Crab Curry. Both were well-seasoned with a clear identity and a satisfying kick. We finished with the Mango Sticky Rice, which was amazing, highly recommended if you have room, or worth saving space for from the start. The portion was perfect for 4 post-workout customers. A little pricey as someone who visited Thailand yearly for a period of time, but it's LA. Our waters were never empty, and was checked in on a number of times. Must check in in-person Menu: 5/5 (traditional Thai foods + unique street foods) Value for price: 5/5 (not the cheapest, but incredible flavors) Service: Decently quick given the crowd Parking: Street parking (free after 6PM) Chiang Rai has been hyped to me for months, and I will say, it surpassed expectations. Came here on a date on a Saturday night around 8PM, and the wait was about 45min since you have to check in at the kiosk outside. We walked down the street to a sports bar while we waited- highly recommend if you're coming on a date. The restaurant is colorful and crowded- expect to sit RIGHT next to the couple next to you- but the servers are nice and provide recommendations if you ask. Food came out quickly. We tried the following: - Som Tum Thai salad (M spice): Fresh, lime-y, runs spicier than other dishes due to the citrus/papaya. Only comes with 2 shrimp but they're deliciously char-grilled. - Khao Soi Noodle Soup (Chicken, M spice): Their signature dish. Fragrant, coconut notes, thick curry broth. Comes with crunchy noodles on top and lots of egg noodles inside. The broth is one of the best khao soi broths I've ever tried. Great to share or have alone. - Chiang Rai Larb (M spice): Extremely fragrant ground beef, comes with lettuce/cucumbers, and pickled vegetables/green + red onions. Delicious!! - I'd recommend ordering sticky rice to go with any main dish, it's not included but worth it. - Green Thai tea: delicious. We needed this to soothe our mouths from the spice. Second visit here. Staff is great. All friendly. It's a small space so wait times can be an issue at times. I promise worth the wait. We ordered the Pad See You, Thai Fried Rice, and the Khao Soi. Pad See You 10/10. Savory and slightly sweet. Delicious. Thai Fried Rice 5/10. This fell short in flavor for me. I had to add a bunch of chili to it. Adding a different protein probably could have helped with changing the flavor of the dish. Khao Soi 10/10. This curry dish was hands down the best dish I've had here. I highly recommend if you're a curry fan. I plan to come back and order it with meat versus tofu. Even with the tofu this dish was phenomenal. My only complaint would be I feel like they have small portions on the Pad See You and Thai Fried Rice. read more

This is a friendly, small restaurant and the staff is very helpful in answering questions and helping with food choices. Everything we ordered was amazing. I can see why this restaurant is recognized as a Michelin guide recommended restaurant. The Thai tea was very good and the presentation of all the food is fun and impressive. Portions were large and generous for a Thai restaurant, which is not typical. Fried rice was a little bland and forgettable. Pad see ew was very sweet, had lots of dark soy sauce, noodles were tender, but the beef was a little tough and overcooked. The stars of the show were the midnight fried chicken with roti and the Khao Soi with rib eye beef. The roti is light, airy and buttery at the same time. We got the midnight chicken instead of the fried chicken/curry combo because you get more chicken in this order and we were already getting the Khao Soi. The midnight chicken is perfectly fried, light, crispy, juicy and tender. Khao soi was rich, creamy, spicy and delicious. It could have used more lime and pickles. It needs some acid to cut the heaviness . read more
One of my coworkers who loves Thai food introduced us to this place/location so we went to check them out last month to mix up our rotations of the Thai food restaurants in DTLB. We drove here from DT because it's quite a bit outside of DT. Apparently, it is pretty famous and they have other locations too, in the OC. They are known for their Northern Thai food dishes and for their Khao Soi. I am more of a boat noodle person because I'm not a fan of curry. I feel like you need to be in a mood to be craving Khao Soi, and even when I do, I always want to switch the default egg noodle to the rice noodles. Anyway, we all ordered different dishes, crispy pork belly, pad see ew, Khao soi, and for me, the boat noodle. I asked if I can get the big noodle and they told me they can't! Which is strange... I did not ask to change or alter the dish just the noodle only, but still they could not do. If you do any kind of cooking, you know for noodle soup, you make the noodle separately so why can't they just put in the bowl a different noodle for me? Okay... So, if you are into boat noodle, theirs here is on the darker broth side, which means they use a lot more blood in the broth. Also, they only offer wagyu beef. I have a lot of boat noodles, all versions, everywhere, and I found that I like the cleaner version instead of the thick rich full blood broth soup. Plus, the wagyu in the boat noodle here did not stand out because other flavors and textures already were overwhelming. So, I think I would rather have the normal beef boat noodle and not needed to pay extra for the wagyu, because it was underwhelming. Overall, it was decent, a bit too rich for me plus I'm not a big fan of small rice noodles so, I would not order this again here. (it's kind of like having spaghetti with the wrong kind of pasta...) My boss' crispy pork plate looks good. I think I would come here again to try their other dishes because they all sound yummy.. But would I make the long trek from where we work to here again on my own? Prob not, only if it's going to be the majority vote for us :) read more
Chiang Rai has been my go to restaurant when in Long Beach. The last time I visited, I went around lunch time and was told that there was no more lunch specials. That threw me since that had always been my go to. A few people who came after me asked about it too and they said they just recently stopped having lunch specials. Instead I ordered the Khao soi noodles which in essence is fried noodles in a curry soup. The soup was very flavorful but the chicken was a little overcooked. The crisp noodles absorbed the soup. I could've just drank the soup straight without the noodles and everything else and been happy. Street parking can be found by residential housing just be aware of street sweeping days. read more
I have not really had much Thai food in my life I'll be honest. I came here on a limb and it has the cuuuuuuutest, intimate setting inside. Just a little TOO intimate... I felt like I could eat off my neighbors plate because it was so tight together. Not good for a first date unless you want everyone in your business hehe. I ordered their shrimp fried rice. I kept it pretty basic. Even with a basic dish, it was extremely flavorful. I especially loved that their rice was not sticky or short grain. It was just the right texture and grain length. The shrimps.. MASSIVE. a mammoth of shrimps. I loved them. The rice wasn't overly salty or anything either.. she was amazing. I had leftovers and gave it to my dad. backstory my dad is the pickiest person on earth with food, even my cooking at times. but he LOVED this shrimp fried rice. I definitely would love to come back and try some of their other dishes as well. Parking is on the street, which can fill pretty fast... I mean it is Long Beach. I've heard good things about Chiang Rai so I decided to give it a try. My friends and I ordered four dishes. We unanimously agreed that the khao soi was salty, the pad see ew was alright, and the green curry needed more curry flavor. We wanted to love Chiang Rai as most reviews suggested. Service was fine. The restaurant was very nice. Parking was a bit of a problem, especially during lunch hours. read more

New favorite SoCal Thai spot... Been wanting to come here for a minute, and from the first bite, we weren't disappointed. First and foremost, the oysters are a must! One of the best I've ever had from a sauce and texture perspective. Soft shell Khao Soi was incredible, with the perfect level of spice (we ordered spicy) and full of flavor. The Roti Combo was bomb. Roti was super soft and flaky, and combining it with the wings was giving a Thai version of a chicken and waffle. We also got the steak salad and a Thai green iced tea, both good. Service was great, and the wait was only 25-30 minutes on a Saturday night, so we got lucky, and the overall decor inside was super cute. Highly recommend, and will be back, and back, and back. read more
Came on a Wednesday for dinner and ended up waiting for a while, but it makes sense since the restaurant is pretty small. The space was super cute, nicely decorated and colorful inside. I recently visited Chiang Rai, a Michelin guide, restaurant while in Long Beach. We came right when it opened and it was already very busy with only about 2 small tables available. I ordered the Panang Curry along with the marinated pork belly as an appetizer. The food was incredible. The Panang Curry was flavorful, spicy (you pick your spice level) and the meat was extremely tender. I chose beef but they also have vegan and vegetarian options, which is always a plus. The pork belly was crispy and the sauce accentuated it nicely. Looking around the restaurant, I counted about 5 people who had ordered the Khao Soi Noodle soup and it is a very impressive looking dish. My guest also ordered it and I was able to try it, and it was a winner! I would order that next time along with the pork belly. Service was okay, and, it did take awhile to get refills on water or more napkins since the restaurant was busy. Another drawback is that the restaurant is incredibly small. Since all of the tables were filled, by the time we left, we were bumping into people behind us, with our chairs. In addition, the noise level was extremely loud and hard for me to hear my guest across the small table. It's worth mentioning in case you are sensitive to, small, crowded spaces that are very loud. Overall, this is a delicious place to eat. Since I have experienced the restaurant, when I am in town, I may opt to pick-up instead of dine in. Hopefully, they will open a larger restaurant soon, as parking can also be an issue as well. read more
Came here after work one day and ordered the Thai red curry and mango sticky rice. Red curry was flavorful and offered above average taste. I'm not sure how else to describe this phenomenon other than that it tasted like it was on the cusp of being exceptional--like with just a few tweaks it would be unparalleled in flavor. I liked it, don't get me wrong, but I'm not driving across town for it. Mango sticky rice was decent, the mangoes could've been a tad juicer though. Overall decent food, decent service. Ambiance could likely do with dimming the lights just a hair, but overall decent ambiance. I'd come back here if someone suggested it, but I don't think I'd personally be the one to initial it. read more
We were lucky to be seated right away. There was 4 in our party. The place looks modern and servers were very attentive to customers. We ordered Roti & skewers for starters. Beef Khao Soi, Beef Panang, 2-Pad Thai, and Tom Yung soup. They were all good. Parking wasn't so bad because we were there early for Saturday lunch. I got the chicken Pad Thai and honestly, even though it looked a little plain, it had really good flavor with just the right hint of spice. I enjoyed it a lot. I also tried the Crying Tiger. The meat was great, and while I wish the sauce had a bit more kick, it still went really well with the dish. The spot itself is pretty small, so I ordered ahead and picked it up. My food was ready in about 20 minutes. If I'm in the area again, I'd go back, but still for takeout. read more

They don't do reservations. It's first come, first serve. You can put your name on the list. We arrived around 5pm last Saturday and waited a little over an hour for a party of 4. Parking is street only and limited so the earlier you go, the better…

No, just arrive about an hour earlier than you expect to eat to be safe on the weekends arrive 3hours early
Are there gluten free options available?
I don't think there's a lot. It isn't specified in a section of the menu, but it will depend on what items you choose. They do have a variety, and I think they would be willing to "customize" some items!
