I was in the Long Beach (LB) area for an event. I was introduced to Nguyen's Kitchen (NK). It happened to be nearby where I was at so I swung on by to see what they have to offer. They are one of the tenants at the Los Altos Shopping Center. Parking is available near the front. Limited parking in the back of the building... just walk in Trader Joe's to cut through so you don't have to walk around the building to get to NK. Btw, NK shares the same biz space with Pur Bowls. You can get lunch and/or dinner plus healthy acai bowl in one spot. Cool beans! Outside has a couple tables and some chairs. Inside has a bit more seating. Decor is simple with bright lights. Once you walk in, just go straight to the back to order. A young nice lady greeted me immediately. Thank you Miss! Menu has a mix of Vietnamese and Asian Fusion dishes. Since this was my first time here, I asked the young lady for her recommendation. She said her favorite is the Crawfish Pasta. I love seafood so that's what I got. It didn't take too long for my order to be ready. Pasta had plenty of noodles and sausages. Crawfish was tiny, but this wasn't news... just wished it had a lot more amount of crawfish to compensate for its size. Overall flavor was good, but I found it a tad salty for my taste. Love the spicy kick. Price was a bit pricey for the portion size though. I don't live in the LB area so this may not be a place for my frequent returns. It's ok. I got a pork sandwich and a Vietnamese coffee. With tip it ended up at around $20. The pork sandwich was well seasoned and a little on the fatty side, which made it very tasty, almost like bulgogi. The bread could have been way crispier, but I did get it to go, so that probably was the to-go container. I think if they wrapped it in paper though versus the plastic lid container, it would be much better and not steam the sandwich so much. The Vietnamese coffee was ok. Lots of cream. I like them a little darker but it was still strong and got me nice and wired to finish my work that afternoon. All in all, not super notable but not bad. Came here on a friday night. The place shares a store with pur bowls. We ordered garlic noodles with shrimp, garlic fries, and bulgogi bahn mi. The garlic noodles with shrimp was the best dish of the ones we ordered. It was flavorful and super garlicky. The shrimp skin was super crispy as well. The bulgogi bahn mi was great. Tons of flavor in the meat but the only thing is i wish it had more veggies in it like some lettuce or something. The garlic fries were meh. If you got some of the garlic bits with your fries they were good but the other ones didnt really have much flavor. read more

It was pretty good, not anything that really made me "omg this is so good" but it was good. Bulgogi portion was skimpy for sure. You'll see in the photo it was more cucumber, pickled radish? And a huge bed of rice. I felt like 50% of the bowl was rice. I ended up leaving a lot of rice. I ordered their Vietnamese coffee which took a while to come out. I'm unsure what the employees were up to but it took a whiiiiiiiile for my coffee. I received my bowl first so I was like hm that's different usually it's the other way around. Beats me, but it's yuuuuummy! Keep u energized x100 hrs frrrrr super good and strong. Don't drink it at 11pm like I did. This is def a "late night hangout spot/munchies" because it gets loud at midnight and so with the people. I've been here twice and I'm definitely a fan! First time I went, I had the Grilled Pork Rice Bowl with an added egg and I had a bite of the Grilled Pork Sandwich... both were delicious! My second visit I had Garlic Noodles w/ Bulgogi. This dish was fine. A tad more filling than the rice bowl I had my previous visit but I definitely prefer the bowl and as far as protein choices go, I think the pork is much better. Employees here are super friendly and food comes out a lot faster than I thought it would. The inside gives me modern coffee shop vibes and is very clean and comfortable inside. There's also outdoor seating and although there's not much of a view outside of ample parking, I appreciate that I have a choice and prefer eating outside. Walking into this place is nice. The marble counters paired with wooden tables give it a clean, modern vibe. There's booth seating along the wall, a few larger tables, and even some outdoor seating. I also noticed outlets at the booths, so this would be a great spot to get some work done. Bonus: Purr Bowls is inside too, and I'm not gonna lie--their bowls looked so good I wish I had ordered one. Definitely trying that next time. Drinks: We got two Vietnamese iced coffees, and they were exactly what I expected--strong AF . I first tried food from Nguyen's Kitchen at one of my daughter's classmate's birthday parties and was pleasantly surprised. Fast forward a month later, a friend chose this spot for dinner and I was totally down since I'd really enjoyed the catered food. The menu is small but solid which I didn't mind at all because I already had my eye on the House Chicken Bowl. It was just as flavorful as I remembered. I love the veggies especially the pickled carrots and daikon which paired so well with the rice and chicken. I REALLY wanted some good noodles, and I found this place on Yelp. Really nice establishment, very clean. They had many different options, noodles and nice. I got 2 bowls, one with bulgogi meat and one with shrimp. (Then when I got home I put half the meat on one and vice versa so it was steak and shrimp). The noodles were delicious and I'm glad I added the steak and shrimp. The bulgogi was very flavorful and had a tiny crunch from the sesame seeds. The shrimp was tasty, I wish it was peeled though. One the side it looks like they had an ice cream bar, or gelato, not sure but it looked good! And the customer service was 10/10. Definitely recommend and plan to be back! read more

Fast casual Vietnamese fusion? Sweet (literally). My little one had an oddly specific craving for garlic noodles, so we decided to indulge him. I've had pretty mediocre experiences at other Nguyen's locations, but was hopeful walking into this one. The vibe was really simple and modern! Service was prompt and friendly. There are two separate counters here -- one for the smoothie bowls, and one towards the back for Nguyen's. Prices are a little steep considering the quality. A banh mi costs about $11 and tasted delicious (the grilled pork is possibly the best protein on the menu), though the texture of the baguette and the veggies didn't quite hit. Garlic sauce to the rescue! That sauce is so good. The Cajun fries with bulgogi were pretty basic, meat was tender and super marinated (their bulgogi marinade is tasty but heavily on the sweet side) and the fries seemed not too fresh and were unfortunately served cold. Garlic sauce to the rescue! And my toddler's plain garlic noodles with no protein were $10 and were like extra tangy and ferment-y. Like I swear by fish sauce, but these noodles were legit drowning. Garlic sauce wasn't gonna save these guys. Vietnamese coffee wasn't bad. All in all, our family of four ate for about $65. Not the cheapest, but could be worse. My husband works nights and is always looking for places open late to eat. He and our son went there last night and he liked it so much that he had me pick it up for our dinner tonight. I was impressed by their sliders last time, and I am surprised that their bulgogi steak sandwich is even better. There is a perfect balance among the delicately shaved carrot and daikon slices and well-marinated grilled meat. That's topped off with a generous amount of cilantro, and the mysterious dipping sauce is even better than icing on the cake. NK shares the same staff with Pure Bowl, but they do a good job shuttling between the two registers. I can imagine it can get pretty hectic at times. The Thai tea was very good, on the top end of the spectrum for Thai teas in Long Beach. The bulgogi sandwich was good, but missing a little something in terms of flavor. It needed a good pickle or something acidic to offset the richness of the meat. With the green sauce poured on it was better. Came here this evening with my family. It was late and the place was empty. Once we started ordering it filled up. Ashley, the gal behind the counter was SO friendly and gave excellent service to everyone there. She quickly and happily managed a pretty big line.
