First time at Second Owl here at Belmont. I've tried Owl Owl in the past in Signal Hill and liked it so was craving for good savory Thai food and decided to stop by Second Owl. I got drunken noodle with crispy pork and sea bass larb take-outs. The drunken noodle was very flavorful, love that wok fire flavor. The crispy pork earned its name and it was crisp to the tip! So crunch, I wish there were more of it. The sea bass larb was full of flavor, fresh, citrusy, paired very well with the shrimp chips. The service was great and it didn't take too long to wait for my food. They also have a restroom for customers only and it's around the corner of the restaurant. Highly recommend!

The Second Owl seriously hit the spot. Here's the official breakdown of how I'm ranking the dishes we tried. Marry: The pork larb. No hesitation. This was the star. So fresh with lime and herbs, perfectly balanced heat, and the shrimp chips added that perfect crunch. The night before we watched Matty Matheson's Just a Dash and he made larb, which totally sparked my interest! This is the dish I would come back for again and again. F: The pork belly. Crispy on the outside, buttery tender on the inside. It did exactly what it was supposed to do and did it well. Rich, satisfying, and a little indulgent. Kill: The chicken satay. And I say that with respect because it was still good. That peanut sauce was creamy, savory, and slightly sweet in the best way. Unique from other peanut sauces for sure. But compared to the other two dishes, it just did not steal the spotlight. Someone had to go. Service was excellent and the presentation of each dish was beautiful. You can tell they really care about what they are putting out. The interior was nice and modern. Everything came out in a timely fashion and was great from start to finish. I will definitely be back for more larb and to work my way through the other menu items!

A Yelp Elite event brought me to this cool little boutique restaurant. It has a simple, industrial style decor, with a few large garage style doors that open up and make the space feel bigger and more open. The staff and service were good everyone was nice and friendly. We did not have a reservation and waited no more than five minutes to be seated (around 630p on a Saturday), but it quickly filled after we arrived. It seats only about 50 diners. Food, we ordered a fresh green salad, chicken wings and duck egg rolls fir appetizers, snd Owl Fried Rice, and crab with Thai chili and basil as shareable entrees. I had a beer with my meal, and my wife had the sangria. The kitchen flow/timing was a bit off. After our order was taken, we waited about 15 - 20 minutes before the first appetizer came out. As we worked through the appetizers, the Owl Fried Rice arrived. About halfway through the rice, I realized I never got my beer and had to ask for it (I think it was forgotten). We were nearly done with the rice and still hadn't received the crab dish, so I asked the waitress about it. She looked surprised and said she'd check on it. About 5-10 minutes later, the crab dish finally came out. My wife's second sangria was comped due to this error. Let's talk about the food: Green salad - Good and fresh. Did exactly what a salad should do. Wings - Excellent. Well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Three wings - portion was smaller than typical, as this was part of the Yelp comp. A normal app is 5 wings. Duck egg rolls - Great flavor, but the wrapper was a little thick and dense. Owl Fried Rice - Really good overall. The curry flavor comes through strong in a good way. My only issue was that there was just one shrimp in the whole dish. Maybe go lighter on the pineapple and add more shrimp. Crab with Thai chili and basil - Excellent. The flavors and preparation were on point. Despite the delays, this was still a pleasant experience. I'll definitely return and would recommend checking this place out. If the weather's nice, I suggest grabbing a patio seat (there are only nine).

Great Thai food! Great addition to Second Street/Belmont shore. We decided to try something new and happy we did! Second Owl is cute staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The pad Thai amazing, our appetizer egg rolls so yummy. Happy hour has great pricing - can't wait to go back for their sangria. They allow dogs on their sidewalk dining area - parking is typical of the Belmont shore area.

A rare find!! A unique Thai place in this very crowded Belmont shore neighborhood. Located on the corner. There is street parking all over. A bit loud, but animal friendly with their patio seating too Very large menu for such a small place. They have lunch specials and a happy hour menu too Real food made by real people. Everything was plated beautifully and packed a whole ton of flavor too

Dark moody interiors with super friendly staff. Small dining room but had no problem getting a table when we arrived, though it quickly got crowded. The prawn was delicious and so was the larb. Will come back and try more dishes.

Solid thai place on 2nd street. Some great dishes, some that were just so so but overall a great, somewhat affordable, Thai option around 2nd street. We came for lunch with a group of 5 and ordered the pork belly appetizer, larb, thai boat, pad thai, pad see ew, and thai crab. The pork belly was delicious. Not too fatty but just enough to give it that rich flavor. Nicely crisped without being greasy. There was a fish sauce-dipping sauce that went really well with it. A crowd favorite. The larb was tangy and refreshing. The seasonings overpowered the meat flavor a little and I thought it was strange they served it on shrimp chips versus lettuce. Not enough chips to larb ratio. The thai boat noodle was very flavorful. Almost had a worsteshire sauce flavor. The beef was pretty well cooked and was different but very good. Of the two noodle dishes, the pad thai was our least favorite. WAY too sweet. Maybe more Americanized? But overall did not like it and probably wouldn't order it again. The pad see ew was good, if not memorable. An easy to eat dish with well cooked noodles, but not a lot of veggies. The crab was by far the best dish. If you like thai basil dishes, this is your dish. The crab soaks in all the flavor of the thai basil. It has a little bit of heat and the veggies add a nice crunch. Definitely a must try. Really nice and attentive service in a modern decor restaurant. Will definitely come back again to try some other things and see what else is worthwhile.

Finally tried The Second Owl last night. And I was NOT disappointed! The wait staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu and the food was delicious. Cool vibe, a great addition to the area. Fresh, tasty and authentic. You will end up paying more, but it's absolutely worth it. The care and time spent on the quality of their dishes is evident. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes. Pork Belly - Crispy edges, super moist and fatty. Chicken Wings - Crispy and well seasoned. Pad See Ew - Firm and Bouncy flat noodles.

Came here on a Sunday around 4pm no wait to be seated. Bar and tables. Patio space. I didn't see a bathroom inside maybe on the side of the building i did notice one. Ordered the pad thai it was good in flavor a bit chewy. The Thai tea was good. Customer service was very friendly and quick. All in all good for a one time try.

Spotted this new restaurant on 2nd st and had to try it! We were seated by a very kind hostess right away on a busy weekend evening with outdoor seating and heaters. We ordered the chicken wings, pad thai, and mango sticky rice. The chicken wings were crispy, served with sides of a tangy sauce and spicy chili honey sauce. The pad Thai was quite spicy, but the mango sticky rice helped to soothe the heat. Overall, it's a great dinner spot that's nice for some thai flavors.

Crab with chili and mint and pad seew with beef partially eaten. Got so excited with the aromas I forgot to get a pic first

Attended my first Yelp Elite event and it was a lot of fun. The service was friendly, helpful and excellent even though it seemed only one front person was taking care of everyone. It wasn't packed but very pleasant. We ordered the chicken wings as our complementary appetizer and it was terrific! Big meaty drummettes with two sauces, one was a sticky sweet tart sauce and the second was an acidic chili sauce topped with roasted ground rice. The magic happened when we drizzled the crispy wings with both, just perfect! We also ordered Nam Khao Tod, a crispy rice salad which was the best we've tasted, crab with chili and basil, flavorful and aromatic, and pad seew beef as an old reliable standby. Would definitely return again when in the area.

Tom Kha Soup. Really liked this one. It was very coconutty and balanced, not too sour at all.
    Rith H.

Dark vibey interior with small lamps on the table. Perfect for a date night. The Short Rib Massaman is easily the best thing on the menu. It was literally melt-in-your-mouth tender and the curry was so rich. The Baan Yaang was also solid, it's really all about those sauces though, so don't be shy with them. We also grabbed the Tom Kha which was super coconutty and hit the spot. Only real letdown was the Tom Kha Creme Brulee. I'm all for a creative dessert, but this one just tasted... off. The flavors didn't really mesh for me. I'd say stick to the savory stuff and skip this one. I would like to try the mango sticky rice next time. Overall, service was great, always refilling water and checking in on you. I'll definitely be back for that Massaman alone.

There's a few nearby which fiends have referred and raved about, but this one left a lasting impression. I love me some boat noodles and they do not disappoint. The nice thick broth with loads of meats all mixed in together. Then you have the Chinese broccoli for the perfect veggie paring. Wow, it so good. Some places cannot get their broth right which does make a major difference. Sometimes it ends up being too watery and defected the purpose. Here, the broth is perfect. Also any of their curries is excellent. This time we went with the massaman curries. Nice thick broth with peanuts, potatoes, onion and carrots in a coconut sauce. Another flavorful dish. And of course we always get the papaya salad Thai style with shrimp and peanut. There also the Laos style with fermented fish sauce and salty crab. Originally, we were going to try to hit up Zuzu's petal, but the line was ridiculously long and the parking was a nightmare, so I decided to take her to my 2nd choice, which was Kin Long. I thought it would be a run-of-the-mill local, Thai place with food that is more homestyle and tastes slightly above average to hit the Thai food fix. Boy, was I wrong! First and foremost, they have their own parking lot, so YAY! It's starting to sound like my standards are low, but they aren't. OMG- their restroom is clean! JK. From the outside, it looked nice enough, but I was impressed when we entered. It had a comfy, modern, clean, and beachy elegance to it (the lights and that chandelier) without it being stuffy or looking disjointed in terms of interior decor. Servers were very polite and accommodating. I let my friend order since she was the guest. She ordered the garlic shrimp noodles and scampi shrimp to share, and the Thai tea drink with the ice cream bar. I ordered 3 cocktails (Jalapeno + tamarind, Lychee, and Thai tea martini) and they were all good (not overly sweet and weak sauce, but balanced, tasty, and had the right amount of buzz). We had a light lunch since we had AYCE hot pot later that evening (Mikiya - yes I'm a good host). The garlic noodles exceeded my expectations - shrimp were huge, seasoned well, and just cooked through, the noodles were broad, float, tender, and had a slight chewiness to it. The scampi shrimp were huge, tasty, succulent, and cooked perfectly (not surprised since the shrimp with the garlic noodles were so good). NOTHING WAS OVERCOOKED OR MADE ME GO.... "MEH...." and I've been to many Thai restaurants even the highly stylized kitschy ones like Farmhouse Thai in SF. The waiters were very attentive. They made their rounds to make sure waters were filled and all guests were taken care of. It helps they were also handsome too! LOL. I generally find many places nice in the competitive LA, but not nice enough for me to travel from the SGV. However, I will go out of my way to visit KL again to try the rest of their menu (drunken noodles, pork jerky, crab fried rice, papaya salad, etc.) because they left a good impression with me. Prices are reasonable and the quality of food, cocktails, clean restrooms, ambiance was coastal modern, has its own designated parking lot, and service was lovely.

Service was kind and quick throughout lunch, and it definitely feels like a local Cambodian family run business. Interior is clean, and they have a parking lot although I can see it getting filled up. This is my first time trying Cambodian cuisine, and definitely left wanting more in the future! Rice is not free with their entree/shared items. I wish it were included with shared meat/vegetable items. Beef Lok Lak ($20, 9/10) - good portion size! Shared between four guys, and it felt like enough. - meet itself is super flavorful, chopped into small chunks, and serves a fantastic balance of savory yet sweet - served with sides of tomato, cucumber, lettuce, lemon, dipping salt and pepper Student Noodle ($15, 8/10) - delicious! This almost felt like a mix of Vietnamese Noodles + Thai Pad Thai. the Pad Thai comes from the savory/sweet flavor profile along with bean sprouts and green onions. They also provide a Syed sauce that is very similar to the Vietnamese, pungent flavor, dipping sauce for their eggrolls. - super great dish, Fantastic flavors Overall, really enjoyed the spot! Felt that the prices and portion sizes were reasonable, and a great introductory to Cambodian cuisine (kinda like Viet + Thai mix). Wish that rice were included with some of the entrée options. Parking can be a hit or miss, but service was on point.

It's the kind of spot where you can sit down, unwind, and really enjoy your food. I ordered the brisket pho to go and it was absolutely delicious. The meat was incredibly tender, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. It paired so well with the rich, savory broth and fresh ingredients. Every bite was warm and satisfying, true comfort food done right. The portions were generous, the service was fast, the quality was great, and the overall experience was wonderful. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Tucked away in a small older strip mall, this is an order at the counter type of place (also have one cashier as well). I ordered the veggie pho and my BFF ordered the rare brisket pho. Both were tasty and the portions were huge for the regular size (don't order the large unless you are sharing). No fountain drinks are available as everything is canned or bottled. You can get bottled water for 1.00; however, water with ice and cups is provided gratis. Overall, a great place just not as authentic as some other Viatnamese restaurants but I still enjoyed it.

Long overdue journal about this joint! Came to LBC's Cambodian new year festival at the community…read morecollege and had such a great time seeing all the locals and culture. We've never been before and it was nice. We really wanted to feast it up at the stalls but the lines were so long and it was so hot. Thankfully we found this amazing gem! This place is strictly CASH ONLY. So please come prepared. We came and it was a full mad house. Lines and parking was full I knew that's when we were going to get a great meal. Came with my mom and we DEF ordered more food than we can take on. My mom hasn't had Cambodian food in a while so we def made people wonder why we ordered so much lol Food was so savory and delicious. Seating is limited hopefully they can expand. I think they deserve it as a lot of people raved about their dishes. Service was friendly as well and short staffed due to the holiday. All patrons were really understanding of that. I would def come back again or wishes I wasn't so far so I can DoorDash this!

All kinds of mixed feelings after dining here…read more The good: The young man who took our order was super friendly, welcoming and accommodating! The student noodles with pork was delicious! The iced coffee was solid. The bad: The women who work here were a lot less friendly. The tables were so close to one another that we couldn't sit across from one another. Food also took an incredibly long time to come out even though we only ordered two dishes--student noodles and beef skewers. We also had to wave down a server just to follow up on the iced coffee that I ordered, especially since this was already after the food had finally arrived. Lastly, while it was good that they had their own parking lot, exiting through the almost too narrow alley was incredibly challenging in either direction. All in all, still remain torn about returning.
