A feast I won't easily forget. Manaow is a memorable addition to the Long Beach foodie scene. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This Broadway hole in the wall is serving up delicious Thai food in an quaint, yet trendy, storefront.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We snagged a spot on the patio (life of a dog owner) and ordered a meal family sty[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]le. My picks included the crab cakes, pad see ew with chicken, and the mango sticky rice. If mango sticky rice is on the menu, there are zero doubts I'm ordering it. Not all MSR's are created equally, but this Manaow's is absolutely delicious. I also loved their pad see ew and was pleasantly surprised by the crab cakes. The whole meal was incredibly tasty and the service was very attentive. This spot is easily worth a routine visit.
People have been telling me about Manaow for years. Now I understand why. It's just really good Thai food for a really fair price. I came for lunch on a weekend. They have a regular menu, a lunch menu, and a "taste of thailand set menu". Most of the "set menus" were around $25 and they came with 2-3 dishes. Went with their Chiang Mai set, which came with Khao Soi with shrimp, crispy pork belly, sticky rice, and some pickled vegetables. I really appreciated that the flavors of these dishes were assertive, that we didn't really have to ask them about spice levels, and the balance on the dishes were perfect. I also ordered a "moo ping" (pork skewer) appetizer plate, which came with sticky rice and sauce. It's a delicious appetizer. Skewer was Sweet, tangy, and meaty and the sticky rice was chewy. I'd highly recommend it. I love that, with their set dishes, they give you the opportunity to taste a few items from various regions of Thailand for a really reasonable price. Will definitely be back very soon!
thai restaurant established in 2014. a small parking lot located next to a liquor store so a meager 14 spots to park. there is street parking available nearby but given the fact that its long beach, it will be a bit difficult to find that as well. i ordered the southern style curried noodles, which comes with vermicelli noodles and yellow curry. the medium spice was pretty spicy and had me drinking water after a few bites. flavorwise, i would say it was still substantial for yellow curry but the spice kind of numbed my tastebuds. the mango sticky rice was a nice way to finish off. the sticky rice itself was a bit salty so i didnt finish it but the mango was very ripe and perfect. with their extensive menu i would come back as i dont think this visit captured what the restaurant has to fully offer.
Food is great, authentic and consistent! Came in for their lunch sets this time and the portions are amazing for $25 you get a little bit of everything in a full size order. While service is friendly and great, docking a star for the wait... there's always a decent wait when dining in (pick-up is better!) but today in particular was a little too much. Walked in at 11:15 (they open at 11 and we were the first there), our food was served at 12:15pm.. 1hr is the longest wait we've had over at Manaow. Might be a random bad day but definitely took away from a "quick lunch" experience.
A cute cozy Thai gem in LBC. The place looks small on side but it was a decent size inside with a warm vibe to it. Nicely decorated. The ambiance is a bit loud on the night we dined it. They have a big selection of Thai dishes with your common comfort food. Being Hmong, I noticed a lot of familiar dishes. The food was flavorful, well balanced, and flavorful but small portions. Staff were a bit slow at times but still friendly and helpful. Parking is a bit tight but there's also street parking. I really liked the drink sampler teas, that was awesome and the drinks all tasted good, and we were able to pick one that we get a full serving. Overall, food and drinks were a bit pricy, but worth it! We will come back again if in the area.
FEAST FOR TWO! From the North and South Noodles to the (requested) North extra fried chicken wings, Succulent fried fish that was dry at all and the fried pork with two sauces while all washed down with a refreshing drink... [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place was actually amazing! Tucked off in a tiny strip mall, my cousin told me I had to try this place and it didn't disappoint.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My server as well let me know his recommendations as he started with the first "popular" but I had to shut that down for only authentic and not what everyone eats. I'm not a fan of sweet things so most of my meal I had opted for the fishy salty garlicky with a hint of spice! Definitely be coming back when im out this way a couple blocks from the beach.

[Menu]: Yelp's top 3 highlights are your classic Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodle. Our waiter also recommend Northern Style or Southern Style Curried Noodles. In addition, Manaow also offers a drink sampler for $10 (a miniature flight of Manaow's most popular beverages including Thai iced tea with cream, Thai iced coffee with cream, limeade, lemongrass tea, and tamarind juice). They also offer unique dishes like Artichoke Curry, Roasted Duck Curry, and Thai snacks & street food. *** Drunken Noodle (Pad Kee Mao - stir-fried rice noodles, ground chicken, fresh garlic, bell peppers, jalapeno, fresh chili, fish sauce, and basil - mild spicy, $14): To my surprise, mild spicy had about 75% spicy level as Sriracha. The noodle tasted good and I cleaned up the entire plate. *** A solid 4.5-star on food and bump up to 5-star due to convenient parking.
This is not only possibly the best Thai place that I've tried outside of Thailand, but one of the best food joints I've been to in a long time. We got the grilled shrimp as an appetizer and it was a 100% the best shrimp that I ever had. Couldn't figure out what was different about it but it was from gods :) Everything in the set menu was also great - I got the Southern Thailand set, which at the time came with a mussels Panang Curry and the mussels were huge, I've never seen anything like that. The curry was great and so was the chicken. It also came with roti bread, I had no idea that Thai people make bread. The service was friendly and attentive, but maybe make sure you are not starving when you come here as it did take us about 20 mins to get seated and extra 30 mins to get our food - totally worth it though!
Tried this place on a Tuesday evening and was seated quickly. The food took a bit of time to come out but it was super yummy. The herbed fish was flavorful and unique. The portions and prices were pretty standard. The menu had lots of options and the parking was decent considering it's near the beach and other establishments. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior was really cute and spacious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I enjoyed the southern style curry noodles and my friend enjoyed the green curry. My only note is that the next day I was eating my leftovers and there was a piece of plastic in it. I don't know how it got in there but it was quite alarming. Hoping that was just a random fluke because this is a nice Thai spot.
Came to Manaow for lunch and it did not disappoint. We tried the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and the Tom Yum noodle soup -- all three were super fresh and full of flavor. The Pad Thai had that perfect sweet-savory balance, the Pad See Ew had great wok flavor and tender noodles, and the Tom Yum noodle soup was honestly my favorite... spicy, bright, and comforting. Everything tasted clean and well-seasoned, nothing overly salty or oily, which I appreciate. Their lunch specials are also such a steal -- generous portions and really reasonable prices for the quality. Our server was friendly and attentive, and parking was easy since it's in the shopping center. Definitely one of those spots you walk out of thinking, "Okay... when am I coming back?" Fresh food, good prices, and overall a really solid Thai lunch spot. Highly recommend.

Shareable, but decent sized portions at GREAT prices for the quality. A hidden gem & probably the best Thai in Long Beach!!! Food: incredible and decent portion sizes. Baked shrimp & glass noodle specialty was served in a hot stone with extra large shrimp. BBQ pork skewers was my favorite, super tender with a FIRE dipping sauce. Crying tiger on top of salad was perfectly cooked steak. Chicken chili and basil was good! I would try something else next time. Service: great. We had multiple people checking on us and didn't have to ask for anything. The place didn't have many guests on a Tuesday at 5pm. Overall, I was so surprised as the outside of the location is so low key. Didn't expect such amazing food and can't wait to go back. read more

Good food. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Literally had to track workers/servers down for anything and everything. We got the Northern Thailand, fried tamarind chicken wings, drunken noodles, and beef chili & basil fried rice. Everything was delicious! AND VERY FLAVORFUL! Just a heads up, medium is really spicy. If you can don't too much spice, mild is easy to go. The reason for 4 stars.... HORRIBLE SERVICE. read more

Our son's girlfriend recommended this great place. We ate there with some friends and we were all glad we did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is located in a little shopping plaza and is very unassuming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We walked in and were greeted warmly. They prepared our table and we were seated right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We noticed the modern and nice interior immediately.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The spring rolls were recommended so we ordered those right away. Our friend was very intrigued by the menu so it took him quite a while to decide. Our waitress was very patient and answered all of our questions. My husband and our friend ordered Lemongrass Tea but I ordered the flight of 5 different drinks. I actually enjoyed each one but chose the Thai Iced Tea with cream to order. My husband also tasted some of the flight and ordered the Thai Iced Coffee. With the flight you also get to order a full drink. My husband and I are traveling so we split the Pineapple Fried Rice. Our friend who took awhile to order chose the Tofu Curry, his wife ordered the Tiger Steak. We all enjoyed our meals immensely! We decided to split the Mango Coconut Rice (I think that was the name). After our delicious meals it was the perfect end to the meal with plenty to share. read more

I really enjoy coming to Manaow -- the food is consistently flavorful, well-executed, and satisfying. I was a bit surprised to see some negative reviews, especially around "authenticity." As someone who is Thai and has brought visiting family here, we've all genuinely enjoyed the flavors. It's always interesting how people define what "authentic" Thai food should be. We've been a few times now, and some of our go-to dishes include the Moo Daad Diew (pork jerky with crispy rice) and Som Tum (papaya salad). On our most recent visit, we ordered the jerky, Tom Kha with Chicken, Mieng Pla Tod (herbed fried fish), Pork Belly with Fish Sauce, Kana Moo Krob (Chinese broccoli with crispy pork belly), and Kao Phrik King with Chicken. Everything was delicious, but the standouts for me were the herbed fish and the Kana Moo Krob -- though I wouldn't have minded slightly larger cuts of pork belly. (Not a big deal.) My partner loves the lemongrass iced tea, while I usually go for oliang (Thai iced coffee without milk). They also offer a drink sampler, which is a nice touch if you want to try a few options. One unique feature I appreciate is the Archarn Chood -- set menus inspired by different regions of Thailand. The Bangkok set is solid, but I especially enjoy the Southern and Northern options (I'm a big fan of Hat Yai fried chicken). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance strikes a great balance between modern and rustic, with thoughtful decor that nods to Thai agricultural life.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My dad is from Ayutthaya, so seeing elements like traditional farming tools was a nice, personal touch. While places like Chiang Rai get a lot of attention (and deservedly so), [[HIGHLIGHT]]Manaow feels more like a neighborhood gem -- less crowded, more relaxed, and consistently good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Friendly staff, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere make it a spot I'm always happy to return to. read more

I was craving thai food around Long Beach but got wait times around 1-2 hours on a Saturday evening, I was lucky enough to call this place and say they were able to sit us down within 20 mins! One downside is that it's in a small parking lot of the restaurant, liquor store, and a a laundromat so can be tricky... Everyone was welcoming but took a while for food to come out since it was a full house with a small kitchen. Restaurant was overall clean and the atmosphere was amazing! We started off with water and ordered a Thai Iced Tea. All main course meals came within 15-20mins. The wait was WORTH it!! The deep tamarind in the paid thai, the acidity in the tom yum soup, the sauces for the steak and skewers.... All of this for $75??? Pretty much a golden gem!! Be sure to add this place next on your list!!!!! read more
Celebrated 2 dear friends birthdays this past weekend. This place was recommended and love that they have good reviews and local. The food was delicious so tasty and had some good heat. The wait staff were patient with us since it was some of our first time here. The restaurant is located in LBC in a strip mall.. I was in Long Beach taking care of some business, and found this place with nice reviews. Parking lot of small, and street parking could be difficult at times. We were seated promptly, and the restaurant was a bit busy. We ordered chicken satay, pad Thai, khao soi (Thai curry noodle), and drink sampler. The chicken in chicken satay was very tender and flavorful! Pad Thai was decent. Khao soi noodle tasted very authentic than the ones I had in northern part of Thailand! It brought back a lot of good memories when I was traveling! The drink sampler teas awesome and the drinks all tasted good, and we get to pick one that we have a full serving. It was a bit pricy, but the food and services worth it! I will come back again if I am in the area! read more
Our group of three had a wonderful dining experience for a Thursday lunch at Manaow: great modern dining room, attentive service, and attractive and great tasting food. Highly recommended when searching for modern Thai cuisine dine-in around the Long Beach area. Manaow (meaning 'lime' in Thai) was recommended by a Yelp friend, so made a note of it and was finally able to drop in for lunch with my wife and her mom. It's located in the Belmont Heights neighborhood, and is situated in a small strip mall (with angled parking) next to a laundromat. There is no restaurant foot traffic here: people are coming here to explicitly dine at Manaow. The inside is beautifully modern, with high industrial ceilings and plenty of space between tables and booths. It got busier towards the end of our stay, and noticed how loud it was inside as folks had escalating conversations. They have a paper sign-up sheet where you write down your name, and hope that somebody from the inside sees you and calls you in. They have been open for 10 years so it must work for them, but its awkward for a rule-obeying customer to decide what to do if nobody calls you in immediately. I've noticed some other older restaurants use the same paper system...just wish they would always have someone manning it, get rid of it when not busy, or convert to a electronic queue system. They have a decent sized menu, including one specifically for lunch and a set menu. I don't get the opportunity to dine with my wife (not a fan of fish sauce, lemongrass, or curry) much on Southeast Asian cuisine, so decided to order a little too much so I could sample (in case this was my only visit). The waitress was prompt, giving us a carafe to refill our own water. The ordered food soon came out in the order of preparation, and all of it was very good. Drink Sampler ($10) - neat flight! Five shot glasses, each filled with two ice cubes and a sample of thai iced tea with cream, thai iced coffee with cream, limeade, lemongrass tea, and tamarind juice. One then can choose their favorite to come in a full size, included. It's a unique idea, especially when dining with a group that doesn't mind sharing from the same container. My wife's mom chose the thai iced coffee, saved for the following day. Papaya Salad ($12.5 for lunch) - served in an earthen ware, with a side of sticky rice. I swear it tasted better because of its container. I like shredded green papaya as prepared in Filipino acharya, and these shreds had the same consistency and crunch. I wouldn't eat it just by itself, but as a side to the other dishes, was perfect...similar to the function of Korean banchan. Moo Ping ($12.50 for lunch) - four small sticks of grilled marinated pork, with bowl of sticky rice and a vinegary dipping sauce. The meat was tender with a sweet glaze, similar to a Filipino pork bbq. My wife really enjoyed this, and would be the basis for her subsequent future meals here. Mixed Fried Rice ($17) - since we weren't sure if everyone would like the sticky rice, went with an "all-the-meats" (chicken, beef, shrimp) along with tomato, onions, and eggs. It was expertly prepared, with large whole shrimp and was a great side for all of our dishes. Hat Yai Set ($22 for lunch) - the best Thai 'bento' box I've ever eaten. It consisted of two expertly fried chicken pieces (leg and thigh), yellow curry with potato (runny...would be disappointing if standalone dish, but great as a dip for bread), jasmine rice topped with fried shallots, and a surprisingly complicated roti (maybe the best I've eaten..very flaky, with layer after layer of thin dough...almost like...my wife remarked it reminded her of french cooking). The chicken was excellent: the batter was pretty flavorless (that's what the vinegar dip is for), but very crunchy and the chicken underneath was super moist. If eating by yourself, a set meal (or two) is definitely the way to go....all the dishes melded together so well, and clearly showcased the chef's skills. We were stuffed, so no dessert. Payment was taken at the table, with the receipt going to my phone. The food was the star here, and for me, will be worth future visits to try their different dishes, especially with the distinct presentation of each dish when dining in. Was a little embarrassed that I didn't know this had been here for 10 years...there just doesn't seem too much current online buzz that I noticed. Is this what James Beards means by their classics award (a family owned restaurant open for at least a decade with timeless appeal)? I don't remember the last time I went to a Thai restaurant without ordering Pad Thai or Tom Yum soup...but didn't miss it one bit at Manaow. read more
The atmosphere and restaurant is nicely designed with the creative thai sticky rice steamer pot! This place did not disappoint, so much flavor to every single dish, maybe a little salty on varies day. We loved all the dishes here. Need to specify to your server that you want your crying tiger medium rare. This hipster-themed Thai restaurant serves Thai street food. The restaurant has a cool, contemporary vibe. Their portions are small to medium (by US standards), but who needs big portions if the food tastes good? I love that their menu features a large assortment of Thai street food. Where else would you find Chicken Wrapped in Pandan (and they use real pandan leaves), Herbed Fish, and Tamarind Eggs? For those who are looking beyond the usual appetizers at a Thai restaurant, I highly recommend trying out the items under their Snacks & Street Food section. Taste-wise, the street food items range from decent to good. For example, the Chicken Wrapped in Pandan was good. The chicken was juicy and tender. Taste-wise, the chicken chunks didn't pack a punch. The fragrant Pandan leaves need to complement the chicken; that's why the chicken is wrapped in the leaves. I hardly tasted the Pandan. It wasn't due to the lack of trying; however, getting good, fresh Pandan leaves in the US is notoriously tricky. I liked their Kao Soi, and it tasted good. It was nothing extraordinary, and it tasted similar to the same dish at other restaurants. Growing up, I loved eating Duck Noodle Soup, and I was so elated when I saw the dish on the menu. The dish is ok (for me) because I was comparing the dish to my childhood memories. The duck meat was okay. But I'm never able to get good duck meat in the US. Compared to Europe and Asia, the duck meat found in the US restaurants (maybe except for high-end ones) isn't that good (texture and taste-wise). Because of this, good duck dishes in most US restaurants are hard to come by. For the soup, there isn't enough duck flavor. But adding more duck to the soup can be expensive and impractical. So I understand why the duck soup isn't a good as I would like. Nonetheless, I commend Mananow for making and introducing this great dish to the people. Their Cod with Three-Flavored Sauce is good. The fish is fried with a good batter and clean oils. The sauce is fairly well balanced between acidity, sweetness, and hotness, although I prefer a bit more spiciness. Overall, food is okay to good. I love that 30% of their menu items aren't found in a typical Thai restaurant. I commend them for being bold and creative with their food. read more

Just arrived from Colorado and hungry, in the mood for Thai food, first time here. Appetizer was unique, light and refreshing. The Thai iced coffee was good. Loved that it was not too sweet. We both got colds so we ordered soups, my favorite Tom Ka Shrimp, was delicious and hit the spot! Customer Service was on point, welcoming, and very helpful with menu. Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu. read more

The wait was not too bad and the food was decent. The crying tiger steak was pretty chewy however the flavors and the sauces was very unique and flavorful. Not my personal favorite though. My favorite dishes here was actually the khao soi (Northern Curry) and the pork belly with fish sauce. The wait for food was a little longer but prices are pretty affordable and overall I would come back. read more

Thai food in Long Beach always hits! BBQ Pork Skewers (Moo Ping) - juicy and aromatic with a light tangy dipping sauce Northern Style Curried Noodles - couldn't decide between curry or noodles so this dish was the perfect choice. 10/10! Moist chicken and flavorful curry. The pickled vegetables/onions toppings are a must. Papaya Salad - got the 2nd spiciest level and it wasn't too spicy. Decent salad, wish it had a few more ingredients but it was very refreshing. Spacious and modern interior, our server was also the best! read more
Either I'm getting too old and starting to appreciate flavors I didn't enjoy in the past, or this place simply makes amazing selections. As I passed by, I initially thought this location was a water shop, given the jugs on display as decorations and its proximity to a laundromat. However, this restaurant actually offers unique Northern and Southern Thai dishes. Even though we arrived before it got busy, the pace of our food coming out was fairly slow. What we ordered: PAPAYA SALAD (Green papaya, carrots, crushed toasted peanuts, green beans, fish sauce, fresh garlic chili, tomato, and lime juice) - Before trying their salad, I wasn't a big fan of papaya salad, as I don't usually enjoy the fishy dressing. However, I was pleasantly surprised--the dressing didn't overpower the dish, and I really liked the crunchy texture of the papaya shreds. We asked for MEDIUM spice, and it had a LINGERING heat from the jalapeño. GREEN CURRY WITH CHICKEN (Bamboo shoots, bell peppers, jalapeño, Thai basil, and coconut milk) - Green curry is one of my favorite Thai dishes, and this place did not disappoint. It's described as a spicy curry, but it wasn't as spicy as the salad. Instead, I loved the creamy basil and jalapeño-infused broth. Other notable items I need to try on the menu are the Northern Style Curried Noodles and Southern Style Curried Noodles. How spicy is the curry for someone who cant handle spice?
It's not very spicy, but that's coming from a person who loves spice. The good thing is you can ask them to make it spicy or mild or no spice at all.

There is some outdoor seating. It's not heated & you're by the parking lot. The tables I saw were small, maybe for 2 - 4 people at most. There are much larger tables inside, including long benches for larger groups.
How do you order take out? They never answer the phone.
I'm certain they forget what a phone ring is, considering they are all on their cell phones..
