It pains me to give this restaurant 1 out 5 stars...I have been coming here for over 30 years. I moved out of country 11 years ago and make a point of dining here every time I am in town...I order the same dish every time..fettuccine du chef and the chocolate raspberry ganache cake Last week, Aug 11, I went there to fine and had the most disappointing experience. Dinner rolls had to be requested 3x, water glasses were not refilled, but the worst was upon receiving the dish I ordered, it did not look like I expected...it was spaghetti noodles. When asking our server Anabella about this, she answered "this is our interpretation of the dish"- what??! Speaking with a manager, he explained they make their pasta fresh and had a problem with the blade and that their fettuccini was impacted. My issue was staff not knowing this, and serving a guest a dish which did not match what they ordered. Yes it's just a noodle, but my expectations on what I was expecting for the dish? lack of accurate reasoning given regarding the dish ("our ??") and having to ask a manager for further explanation created a poor dining experience, one which I look forward to every year when I'm in town. Chiantis, please update your staff and menus (if needed) with changes and accurate information. With all the dining choices in Edmonton, we expect better. So my friend loves this place, so we went out for lunch here. We did not go on cheap Tuesday but on a regular day, and for the price there are many other places that serve better pasta for the same amount. The place itself is dated but comfortable. This is the place that you can linger after with wine and coffee and chat. I actually quite enjoy the atmosphere here as a classic place to dine. Our server was excellent. She was friendly and helpful. She came often for our drinks to be topped up and to ask us how we are enjoying our food. So onto the food which is why it looses a star. My friend raved about the spinach salad. So I decided to try a starter size as well. I like a good salad as much as the next person. And it was really good. The Insalata Di Spinaci was fresh spinach topped with mushrooms, bacon and parmesan cheese. For 6 bucks for a decent portion I thought it was good bang for your buck. The veggies were fresh, the dressing was flavourful and the parmesan cheese was abundant. I think if I am coherst to go here again I will try another starter salad. My friend with with the Supremo which is scallops and smoked salmon in a creamy curry alfredo sauce. This is normally what I get but I decided to try something different this time Vongole - Baby clams in a garlic cream sauce. My pasta was really heavy and lacked the garlic and to be honest the baby clams. I was a bit disappointed. I definately would not recommend this one. This place has a lot of space, so if you are on Whyte ave and if many places are full, this is a viable option. But don't be expected to be blown away. read more

Chainti Place was 50% full Tuesday at 5:30PM. Did not need a reservation. Free bun appetizer was nice and soft and fresh. Cheese ravioli. I got the alfredo and my friend go the Bolognese. Same ravioli, probably cooked in the same pot, you can tell as the sauce is just spooned on top for each of us. I was still hungry after my ravioli. My friend ate 90% of hers. Other friend got the Lasagna Al Forno (baked with meat sauce), he was happy with his portion and flavors. Why, oh why, did we come here? I think my husband had fond memories from decades past, maybe. THE SERVICE Our server was great - almost disproportionately classy for the establishment. Which is why I feel bad giving such a critique, but the server couldn't prevent the experience from being terrible. AMBIENCE I'm a sucker for buildings with some history. This one has so much potential - inside and out. YET the architectural bones have been camouflaged and the space simply looks tired. THE FOOD We should have known better when we read the menu - looking at the prices, it would be impossible to make high-quality dishes for so little! They were cheap because the ingredients had to be cheap. We were certain we could taste something like OXO cube as the base of the onion soup, for example. We decided on this restaurant since some of my family members haven't been here. It's located on the corner of Whyte Ave. with parking on the street or behind the building is a big parking lot. We didn't make reservations since it was a weeknight and there were only a few tables taken. Came here for a family birthday dinner, we were seated immediately. We ordered and the food was wonderful, service was excellent and prices are great! There are pasta dishes with a bit of protein or entrees with more protein and a side of pasta. I've been to Chianti often many years ago and recently stopped by again for their Pasta Monday/Tuesday deal. Service and atmosphere were quite nice as before. In terms of food, I tried the Supremo. As you walk through the door you're hit with the smell of seafood - which if you're me that's a bit off putting. The vibe is a lot more casual than I remember (in hindsight I probably didn't have to change out of my yoga pants to go for dinner) It was Father's Day so the restaurant was packed. So that considered our server was still attentive as he managed to hold down an entire room of the restaurant seemingly by himself. The food was great. I've been here a handful of times over a 10 year span. For the most part the food has always been good with a few times that it's been a miss. You can tell this place has been around for years as it seems like it hasn't been updated on the inside. I recently visited again for a birthday party. I ordered the supremo which I got a year ago. I quite enjoyed it though I noticed the portion this time around was a bit smaller than what I got last year. A little sad about this as I was hoping to take home some leftovers. Several other people in our party also loved their meal. We each got a basket of bread at the table. They came out warm which is always nice. The bread is also unlimited. The food was reasonably priced $19. If you dine here Monday or Tuesday all of their pasta is $12 and the salad is also half off. Pretty good deal! Chianti's is located on whyte av. The restaurant is huge and decorated like an Italian country side house. Tuesday is pasta frenzy so all pasta are $11.99. I ordered the vegetable lasagna. The portion was big, the sauce was delicious. However the sauce wasn't put in between the layers of the lasagna. So after the sauce at the top, the lasagna was quite dry and bland. Decided to stop by with my friend after neither of us had been here for years. The fried zucchini appetizer was delicious, and we both especially loved the dipping sauce it was served with. Their Caesar salad isn't bad either. Long Island Iced Tea was fairly watered down compared to ones I've had in other places. I tried the veal tortellini with bacon, mushrooms, and a rose sauce for my main course, and that was disappointing. Maybe I've been spoiled going to higher price point Italian restaurants over the years and I was expecting too much, but I was served grocery store tortellini and a sauce that clearly used plain old canned diced tomatoes. I was expecting fresh homemade pasta... not something I could cobble together myself in 15 minutes with ingredients from Safeway. Their menu is EXTENSIVE. If they halved the amount of dishes that were on offer and put more effort into them (like making their tortellini in-house), it would be less overwhelming for customers to decide what to order, and quality would also improve. I will say that their half portions are generous, so that's a nice perk you can ask for if you're not a huge eater/fill up on appetizers. The option to get freshly grated parmesan on everything is great (they grate it right at your table). Our waitress was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Ambience is pretty good... nothing fancy, but the old post office is a nice setting for a restaurant. Overall, I am not in a rush to go back. It's reasonably priced, but if you're looking for something better quality, try Sicilian Pasta Kitchen. Chianti's has more of an Old Spaghetti Factory feel to it. read more

But the best part is that they have drink specials for less than $6, salads for $3.50, dessert chocolate mousse for $3.50. Seriously a good meal with drink, appetizer, entree and dessert for less than $20 a person. Seriously a great deal. The pasta frenzy is a choice of any of their pastas for $10.99! I find portions large and I always have some leftovers for lunch the next day. Skimpy on seafood and meats but they are generous with sauces and cheese. I love that they always offer fresh parmigiano and pepper on top. It was a frequent hangout for me during my university days. And it gets a lot of that crowd basically all the time. The atmosphere is quite casual. And I found service prompt and excellent. I never waited for water refills, drinks or any course of my meal. Paced perfectly I finished a full meal in less than a hour. For me...that's a bonus. A great place to load up on carbs when on Whyte avenue. Ordered catering for 6-8 people here on the day of the event. I ordered the diablo chicken, fetuchini Alfredo, and vegetarian lasagne. Also, we got the buns and salad with the order. I must say, it is By far THR best ItAlian food I have had in Edmonton. Everyone enjoyed it, my favourite was the chicken diablo. It would have been perfect with mushrooms added. This favorite gets invoked at least once during "pasta frenzy" time, a sort-of happy hour for the glutens :-) On this visit we went with the lasagne (still tasty, though smaller than I remember), the gnocchi in a curry sauce (interesting), and the chocolate mousse (great texture, should always come with a side of salt, and I still wish that it's dark choclate). Chianti is a comfort zone for generations of Edmontonians, and just for that it's worth a visit. The food is comfort food, not Italian haute cuisine, and that's okay too. Found this place on Uber Eats while looking for a different pasta place to try. They have mixed reviews on Yelp but anyhow, we decided to give it a try. Chianti charges around $9 as a delivery fee on Uber Eats for South Edmonton area. We decided to pick up the order. You can call them directly to place your order. It will take 20-25 minutes to get the food ready. To pickup, you will have to go inside, park your car in a loading zone with a parking time of 5 mins. They don't offer curbside pickup. What we ordered: Pollo Al Pomodoro : Fettuccini Solario served with chicken breast, mushroom, onion and tomato sauce was not impressive and tasty. Fettuccini Diabloe: These spinach noodles cooked with chicken, red peppers and artichokes served in a spicy pesto cream sauce were better than Pollo Al Pomodoro. Artichokes in the pasta enhanced the flavour and made it better. But, they were not spicy at all as described in the menu. Also, they serve their pastas with bread. Unfortunately, bread was directly packed in a plastic bag which had a hole in it, making it completely unhygienic. read more

We have not been to Chiant's on Whyte Ave for many years so we were looking forward to our recent dinner there, a birthday celebration for one of our friends. Although the building is "elderly" it remains pretty well taken care of. The table where the 8 of us sat was in a lovely part of the restaurant which also had good views of Whyte Ave. We had reservations and were seated right away. We were very pleased with our servers who took care of us throughout our meal. Whoever is in charge of the front of the house has done a great job and their crew is a well-oiled, and friendly machine! The good service was the highlight of the restaurant. Second best was their Caesar salad, which was delicious. We also appreciated that the salads could be ordered half-size. Thirdly, since several of us brought our own wine, we appreciated the availability of corkage. The fee is a relatively reasonable $20. Now to the main course: here Chianti's was a big disappointment. Although my pasta was properly cooked some had theirs either under or over cooked. I ordered their spiciest pasta dish but found it tasted very bland. The tomato-based sauce on my dish was thin and tasteless. No-one else thought they had a great meal. Although the quality of the food is not the only consideration in a restaurant it is perhaps the single most important one. For this reason, Chianti's gets only three stars. read more

We've been coming to Chianti's for ten years and it's a family favourite. I've heard rumours lately that it's gone down hill and was scared to go back. Luckily, all that has changed is the shape of the pasta. It's still clearly homemade. The buns weren't as good as usual today, they weren't fresh. The service here is always very strange. Heavy on hipsters, even the older staff. Sometimes it's really friendly, sometimes it's just kind of socially awkward. The decor is dated, it hasn't changed in the ten years I've been coming. I found 2 TINY pieces of pineapple in the whole dish, the sun-dried tomatoes were stale, and the chicken tasted like it was boiled. No seasoning or browning to it at all. Just absolutely a disaster of a dish that used to be SO damn good. NEVER will I try the bruschetta again. Just all around not good. Focaccia bread that came with it was okay and warm. 2 desserts - Chocolate Raspberry Ganache and Bailey's Irish Cream Cheesecake were nice. Spinach salad again - boring. Bunch of spinach, barely a sprinkle of parmesan, and some mushrooms. Realistically bacon bits and red onions should be added. Maybe even pecans or something of interest. Anyone can make the salad the way this place makes it. Throw bag of spinach in a bowl, add some mushrooms and dressing. I highly doubt I will order from here again. I made an order via Skip the dishes and I wish I hadn't. I haven't had pasta in quite some time so I thought I would treat myself to something fro.. Chianti. Regret. I ordered the tortellini in a white sauce with added chicken and jumbo shrimp. When I opened my food, it looked almost grey with spots of orange in it from the shrimp. It was bland like it was made with plain milk. White, almost grey looking. Zero flavor. Zero seasoning. I tried to instill something in it to make it nearly edible but no matter what I tried, all was lost. I ended up tossing it. What a waste of money on my part, and time on the delivery person's part. Okay. I just came back from Vancouver where at almost any trendy spot,you pay $18.00 for the equivalent of a half order of pasta at Chianti's. So on Monday and Tuesday you pay 10.99 for a full order and have enough left over for another meal. This is what we did today, arriving at about 1:15pm, after the lunch crowd had dissipated. It was pleasant on the outdoor terrace, as the usual irritants of the outdoors, wasps; had not yet discovered the seasonal delicacies there on; also construction noises had lessened from last season's roar, or else I have already been deafened from the last time I was here and so I was less bothered. My companion ordered the Italian sausage penne, saying he was so hungry he thought he could eat the whole thing. I suggested he draw a line down the middle, eat half, and re-evaluate. After eating the complementary buns, and half a pint of traditional big rock on tap, he agreed that he felt pleasantly full. We both took home half our meals and I won't have to make supper. I had the Florentine chicken and tomato choice, but with gluten free fusilli instead of the spinach penne on offer. It was satisfying and well seasoned. Sometimes I have to add a bit of butter to my pasta here to bring the salt ratio up, but it wasn't necessary today. Our waiter must have been exhausted from a busy lunch hour- otherwise why so slow? We have been used to excellent service at this restaurant but things seemed to noticeably drag today. We waited for our drinks, we waited for our leftovers to be taken away and wrapped. There is nothing wrong Chianti's! I I think the first time I ever came here was maybe 15 years ago, it was one the first " grown up" feeling date restaurants that I came to, and I just loved it! It's not my #1 go-to, for Italian restaurants, probably not even in my top 5, but whenever I do stop in I always think to myself "gosh that was good, I've gotta go more often". The pastas are all delicious and they are cooked well. They have a fabulous appetizers, a decent wine list, and tasty desserts. There are different areas that are separate from one another, good for a private party or to find some little corner that can be romantic. I think I prefer Chianti's as a lunch spot mid shopping though. And, they have a wonderful patio out back where you can do some great people watching. read more

I believe Chianti is one of the classic eating venues in Edmonton, and it's one of my all-time favorites. No matter when I go, they always have a table, even if I'm with a rather large group. The setting here is comfortable and romantic, and you can tell everyone here loves pasta and having a good time. They have a vast menu full of options to satisfy every appetite, including gluten-free pasta. I usually order the fettucine alfredo, as they have one of the best here in the city. I'll have to get a half order next time, so that I'll have room for dessert, because it's ridiculous how many times I've been there yet never sampled their incredible dessert menu. The service is always quick and congenial, nothing meets short of standard expectations from a good restaurant. I'm glad we have this restaurant in our city -- I'd be very sad without it! I've been to Chianti's more time than I have fingers and toes. This is my favorite restaurant by far that me and my friends love and enjoy. Parking: it's close by and after 6pm street parking is free. I always seem to find a spot eventually in the community nearby. Service: I've never had a terrible experience with service staff. The staff seem to be very accommodating and flexible (and believe me i have some needy friends) and I really appreciate them for it. Whenever it is busy they are still super kind and around for refills and to answer questions. It's always quick and efficient. Food: omg omg omg. I love their pasta. I always get either the Fiorentina or the Kitsilano. The first is nice with chicken pesto and thick green noodles that taste fresh and delicious. Kitsilano is by far my favorite. Spicy sausage with tamato sauce with thin noodles. So yummy I could die! Always get the terimasu. I love that cake so much I almost forget every time that they have other deserts. Overall it is a good experience. They manage the tables so well in that place that it makes me happy. When I went with large groups of friends they always dedicate two service staff and make things easy and effective for everyone. Prices are very reasonable and half orders are just enough for dinner. If I get a full order I always seem to take home half of it to make sure I have room for tarimasu. Good place. Always recommend it. read more

Chianti was never somewhere I'd been dying to go (despite my solid addiction to pasta) but my pals and I were carb-hungry and in the Old Strathcona area so it was off to Chianti's (as it is colloquially known - where did that 's come from?) we went. It's a big place with a cool atmosphere, and I loved all of the Edmonton Fringe posters all over the place. Definitely a very local vibe to the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly, although service was pretty slow. To be fair, I guess, the place was very busy for a Tuesday night. My pasta came and it didn't seem like a ton of food. By the time I finished chowing down, I realized it just wasn't. My dining mates' meals didn't look much bigger, although I didn't hear any complaints from them. Maybe I was just way too hungry? Still, I had to order the strawberry cheesecake just to fill my belly all the way up (poor me!). The food was delicious but I'll have a snack next time before I dine. read more
