a plate of pasta with mushrooms and parmesan cheese
    Lisa C.

We decided on this restaurant since some of my family members haven't been here. It's located on the corner of Whyte Ave. with parking on the street or behind the building is a big parking lot. We didn't make reservations since it was a weeknight and there were only a few tables taken. Came here for a family birthday dinner, we were seated immediately. We ordered and the food was wonderful, service was excellent and prices are great! There are pasta dishes with a bit of protein or entrees with more protein and a side of pasta. The birthday girl received a small dessert on the house!

Do you guys even serve pasta? If I could leave 0 stars I would. I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese and added 1 meatball. It's like eating water. Not even a hint of salt. Boston Pizza would've been better than this. I wish I would've ordered Boston Pizza instead. The 1 meatball is the only thing with the tiniest bit of flavour and even that can't mask the "water" taste of the sauce. What is this pabulum?

Chianti's is located on whyte av. The restaurant is huge and decorated like an Italian country side house. Tuesday is pasta frenzy so all pasta are $11.99. I ordered the vegetable lasagna. The portion was big, the sauce was delicious. However the sauce wasn't put in between the layers of the lasagna. So after the sauce at the top, the lasagna was quite dry and bland. Overall the meal was decent for thr price but definitely did not stand out.

Friend zucchini appetizer - delicious! And a generous portion.

Decided to stop by with my friend after neither of us had been here for years. The fried zucchini appetizer was delicious, and we both especially loved the dipping sauce it was served with. Their Caesar salad isn't bad either. Long Island Iced Tea was fairly watered down compared to ones I've had in other places. I tried the veal tortellini with bacon, mushrooms, and a rose sauce for my main course, and that was disappointing. Maybe I've been spoiled going to higher price point Italian restaurants over the years and I was expecting too much, but I was served grocery store tortellini and a sauce that clearly used plain old canned diced tomatoes. I was expecting fresh homemade pasta... not something I could cobble together myself in 15 minutes with ingredients from Safeway. Their menu is EXTENSIVE. If they halved the amount of dishes that were on offer and put more effort into them (like making their tortellini in-house), it would be less overwhelming for customers to decide what to order, and quality would also improve. I will say that their half portions are generous, so that's a nice perk you can ask for if you're not a huge eater/fill up on appetizers. The option to get freshly grated parmesan on everything is great (they grate it right at your table). Our waitress was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Ambience is pretty good... nothing fancy, but the old post office is a nice setting for a restaurant. Overall, I am not in a rush to go back. It's reasonably priced, but if you're looking for something better quality, try Sicilian Pasta Kitchen. Chianti's has more of an Old Spaghetti Factory feel to it.

$10.99 pasta frenzy Mondays and tuesdays! That's what chianti is known for a cheap pasta night. But the best part is that they have drink specials for less than $6, salads for $3.50, dessert chocolate mousse for $3.50. Seriously a good meal with drink, appetizer, entree and dessert for less than $20 a person. Seriously a great deal. The pasta frenzy is a choice of any of their pastas for $10.99! I find portions large and I always have some leftovers for lunch the next day. Skimpy on seafood and meats but they are generous with sauces and cheese. I love that they always offer fresh parmigiano and pepper on top. It was a frequent hangout for me during my university days. And it gets a lot of that crowd basically all the time. The atmosphere is quite casual. And I found service prompt and excellent. I never waited for water refills, drinks or any course of my meal. Paced perfectly I finished a full meal in less than a hour. For me...that's a bonus. A great place to load up on carbs when on Whyte avenue. It never disappoints and I always leave satisfied and stuffed. I especially love the old arcitecture and paintings on the wall!

Diablo, fettuccini Alfredo, Ans vegetarian lasagne.

Ordered catering for 6-8 people here on the day of the event. I ordered the diablo chicken, fetuchini Alfredo, and vegetarian lasagne. Also, we got the buns and salad with the order. I must say, it is By far THR best ItAlian food I have had in Edmonton. Everyone enjoyed it, my favourite was the chicken diablo. It would have been perfect with mushrooms added. Food taste amazing, service was good, and portions were great. We had plenty left over. I would defiantly Recommend this place and would be defiantly back for more !

Another visit to Edmonton, another visit to Chianti Café. This favorite gets invoked at least once during "pasta frenzy" time, a sort-of happy hour for the glutens :-) On this visit we went with the lasagne (still tasty, though smaller than I remember), the gnocchi in a curry sauce (interesting), and the chocolate mousse (great texture, should always come with a side of salt, and I still wish that it's dark choclate). Chianti is a comfort zone for generations of Edmontonians, and just for that it's worth a visit. The food is comfort food, not Italian haute cuisine, and that's okay too. This was a good visit and I'm sure another one will follow the next purchase of a plane ticket north...

Bread was served in a plastic bag with a hole in it.

Found this place on Uber Eats while looking for a different pasta place to try. They have mixed reviews on Yelp but anyhow, we decided to give it a try. Chianti charges around $9 as a delivery fee on Uber Eats for South Edmonton area. We decided to pick up the order. You can call them directly to place your order. It will take 20-25 minutes to get the food ready. To pickup, you will have to go inside, park your car in a loading zone with a parking time of 5 mins. They don't offer curbside pickup. What we ordered: Pollo Al Pomodoro : Fettuccini Solario served with chicken breast, mushroom, onion and tomato sauce was not impressive and tasty. Fettuccini Diabloe: These spinach noodles cooked with chicken, red peppers and artichokes served in a spicy pesto cream sauce were better than Pollo Al Pomodoro. Artichokes in the pasta enhanced the flavour and made it better. But, they were not spicy at all as described in the menu. Also, they serve their pastas with bread. Unfortunately, bread was directly packed in a plastic bag which had a hole in it, making it completely unhygienic.

I started the meal with the Don Vito cocktail, a spirit forward sweet concoction of Cognac, Bourbon and Limoncello. Immediately felt like it set the perfect tone for dinner. The tasting menu started with four appetizers, the Arancini, Goat Ricotta Crostini, Insalata Siciliana and the Culatello. My favorite was the arancini as it was packed full of melty cheese with so much flavor. The culatello was a crowd favorite and the crostini was a great palate cleanser. For secondi we had the Truffle Gnudi and Paccheri. For people who like meaty flavors go with the paccheri, but I liked the light cheese and truffle of the gnudi. By the time the Pollo Al Mattone came around, I could only manage a mouthful of the succulent brick chicken and the fresh cabbage salad as I was so full and would need to be rolled out of the restaurant. We ended with the Chocolate Budino, which was dark, creamy and delicious. A great tasting menu at a great price, especially compared to Toronto prices!

Place has "very fancy" feel and would be good for special events/celebration dinners. Free bread to start was fine but not the best I have had. I prefer mine with butter but the oil/vinegar is probably more typical. We tried the: Calamari: 10/10, great texture, loved that we got 2 sauces to dip in. Fettuccine Tavolino (cheese wheel pasta): 10/10. Boyfriend was not too full after. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Nice cheesy creamy flavor. Ravioli Alla Zucca: 9/10, I can't remember if there were 6 or 7 ravioli in the dish. Very pleasing presentation. In my opinion too many sundried tomatoes. I love that it comes with sundried tomatoes as that added some great tang/flavor. Ravioli themselves were perfectly cooked. Brown butter sauce was excellent and wanted more. Creme Brule: 9/10, exactly as expected, definitely enough to share between 2 people. Affogato: vanilla gelato was 11/10 good to me but boyfriend didn't like the flavor. We both agree the espresso was excellent. Very small portion (too small to share!). Free cookies at the end were fine. Overall food was excellent and I'll be back but to try something different on the menu.

Violino, in an old home, its staff, and the food exceeded our expectations. We will most certainly be making a reservation the next time we visit the Oilers hometown. Damn that was good! Ushered upstairs, didn't really get a chance to take it in, so will be sure to stop and look around next time. The complimentary bread was great, the martini's good although one glass had far more than the other. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese, and although quite different from what we make at home, was excellent! K had the Alfredo flambé which was fired up tableside. It seems to be a popular option as it happened 6 or 7 times while we dined. They also don't soak you for the privilege of the tableside presentation. It was a little cheesy for K, but excellent nonetheless. Our server Eugenia from Hamburg was excellent, she can serve us anytime. She was attentive, and her timing was exceptional! We plan on making a reservation the next time we are in Edmonton. Top notch experience!

Server was nice but never refilled our table water even after we moved it a couple times to be within her view of the table (my friend swears he saw her see us move it to the edge of the table too). Rialto Float cocktail was nice if you like Pisco. Royal Jamaican Ginger beer was good too. Olive Calde - large portion for price. Olives were fine. Calamari - 10/10 delicious, dips were great too. Gnocchi with pancetta - 10/10, surprising filling and even though the Gnocchi were huge chunks they were well cooked. Waitress recommend Campanella Aragosta - 7/10. If you like spicy it's fine but otherwise the flavor is actually very bland. Pasta itself was unique and well cooked. Large portion. Beef Brisket Agnolotti - 7/10, 8 large ravioli filled with brisket. Sauce was good, ravioli were well cooked but brisket inside was pretty underwhelming. Friend who got this dish was ++ hungry still after and said he would order something else next time for the price. Funghi Cipolla - 8/10, it was as expected. Ricotta cheesecake - cheesecake itself was great with the ricotta taste but crust was soooo bad. So overly thick and dry and considering our waitress failed to give us water the entire meal it was impossible to eat (so dry). Date cake - Unfortunately they didn't have gelato as was advertised on the menu to go with the cake so whipped cream was substituted. Was told this only after we ordered and friend asked for the flavors of gelato. Cake had a few uncooked flour lumps. Flavor was fine but not as flavorful/spice-heavy as I hoped. Sprouts on top looked really messy but tasted fine. Overall not a seamless experience as I would have expected from an establishment of this caliber.
